Mud takes a glimpse of a light in the corridor of the east. It's just for a second but it coincided with the movement of their light, as if it has caught something to be reflected in
"It is no view from a crow's nest, but I believe I spied something glinting back at us to the east. Hard to set course down here so far from Procan's rolling waters and roiling skies, but I say we try that direction first."
Grrzark snorts. "What's so shocking about slavers? Maybe Maw Tooth doesn't do that, but lots of goblin tribes do. Needle Toes like grubbing in tunnels probably almost as much as they like capturing humans and selling them."
"It's not our business either way, Mud," Phodoxia says, giving him a puzzled look. "I know you're going on about the sky and the waves and all, but we're goblins. We like tunnels. Cozy. Warm. Secure. It wasn't by choice that either me or Zark had to leave home..." And her expression darkens, distracted, but with the tiniest hint of a smile, as if she had some rare secret that made all the rest of it totally worth it, no matter how disparagingly she might talk of the path her life has taken.
"And, uh. Yeah. Let's go east. That sounds good to me." Phodoxia starts to walk down the eastern tunnel. Glancing back over her shoulder, she grins teasingly. "Are you going to keep slave driving our companions, or let them walk free men?"
Mud nods as if Zark and Dox have just agreed with him. Which he knows they have not. He does keep his voice low to avoid outside notice
"Aye, not shocking, Zark. Nothing shocking about slavery, more's the pity. Abomination under Procan's far horizons. And speak for yourself about tunnels, Dox. If I never see another one, 'twill be too soon. Might not be your business, yet it is mine."
He smiles with a faraway look, failing to notice Phodoxia's own look and smile.
"You're a charmer Dox, like I said, but I'm no Maw Tooth. Not any more. Nor Needle Toe, no matter how much I pretend to lead our companions as slaves to preserve our ruse. I left home by choice, Procan's word. Pirates and slavers are my foes now, be they humans, gnomes like Stoney, dwarves like Bazilik Erak, goblins like the Maw Tooth or Needle Toes, or even whatever a Mud Tiger is. And those who sail alongside me are my allies."
Since no one objected to heading east, Mud leads the "captives", Stoney and Rasen in that direction, looking around as if lost (which he is, in truth).
Stoney starts to lead the way east (as Mud said), but then halts when he remembers he is supposed to be a slave worker and should be following the others.

"It is a blessing you are not accustomed to behaving like a slave," Mud whispers to Stoney. under his breath. "By Procan, may none of us ever become accustomed to it, and may we break a few of the habit today."
He continues to "lead" the two "new slaves" to the east, continuing to peer ahead as if unsure of the way (which he is).
