Dusk observes Erlang as he walks near the horses, and decides while the others talk to explore these friendly beasts. Walking over towards the horses it remembers something it had read and simply holds its hands up hear the horse to let the creature examine it. With a quick vibration of its head, Dusk seems satisfied at what it considers a successful first interaction as the horse sniffs at his 2-fingered mostly stone and wooden hand. His stone eyes then seem to slightly grow as he watches the others in the new group, ready to follow and observe, as well as help when possible.
The owlin’s chest puffs out slightly, as a smile comes to his face. “It’s a skill I’ve been working on. I hope to further it at the Academy. I’m still getting the hang of it. I don’t think I can make a precious gem, everything I make glows a little bit and seems somewhat “magical”. I can make multiple items, I can make you a seat as well! But they seem to disappear after an hour or so. Maybe after further studies, I’ll be able to make things that are permanent!” The excitement is clear in his voice, he stops and looks down at her journal, saying “So, you study magic too? Perhaps we could help each other…”. He holds his spell book aloft with a grin.
"A... 'skill'?" wonders for a moment Khessa "I thought it was a real spell... but I understand, magic takes so many forms... Too bad the items disappear so soon! We could have created food during the trip... but from what you tell me, I deduce that after an hour our stomachs will be mysteriously empty again!" she laughs at the idea, "But a tool you use for an unexpected circumstance, like a nail or a hammer or a rope, should last long enough to be useful".
"Oh, 'study' magic, you say?" the blonde arcane warrior blushes a little, while her voice becomes a little uncertain "As I told you and the others before, when we were with Ozemon, I'm self-taught... nobody ever really 'taught' me; so I don't know if what I do can really be defined as 'studying'... or rather 'groping in the dark and, with a lot of perseverance and countless trials and errors, succeeding in achieving something'. I would certainly like to study together" her blue eyes shine with excitement "and for sure during the trip we won't miss opportunities, when we stop to rest for example... but I understand that you are a real wizard instead, someone who knows what he's doing (or at least someone who has been taught the basics), so I warn you: it would be more likely that you would be helping me than the other way around".
You all shoot off deeper into Whiteridge City to purchase your (privately discussed) resources you plan to bring with you on your trip, before returning to the Grand Historian's Estate. You eventually return back, and as you do you notice both horses are hitched to the wagon you will be taking. The wagon is simple, but it does have a nice linen canvas cover, to protect you from any weather you encounter. The two teenage boys are back at it re-staining the stable. They turn as you approach "the wagon is ready for you." One speaks. They assist each of you in loading your new belongings into the wagon. As you all crawl into the wagon and Khessa takes the reins, the familiar scarred drow face of Malekith approaches. He's now wearing the dark goggles that were once around his neck. "We'll ride together out of the city. I'll get you situated at the city stables so you have food for the horses." As he says this he mutters something under his breath, and an obsidian black horse materializes out of thin air. The horse has an ashen white mane, matching Malekith's hair and is wearing a decorative silk caparison depicting a female drow lunging a sword through the heart of a large spiderlike creature with the upper body of a female drow.
"Let us go" he says. While you're all riding in your wagon the drow walks beside his horse and leads you out of the city to one of the city stables outside the wall. Anyone looking out the front of the wagon, and Khessa, since she is steering, would notice every few steps there seems to be sparks that generate around Malekith's horse's feet. The drow grabs one of the stablehands "they need 12 weeks worth of feed loaded into the wagon. It's for Ozemon Bursk." The stablehand speaks up "of course sir, we will get on it right away." Malekith mounts his horse and takes off in a hurried pace down the road disappearing into the horizon as he rides away from Whiteridge City. After about an hour or so, you're fully loaded with 12 weeks of feed for your horses and you set off heading south to Roonshire, to eventually head southeast to Wolfwater.
(OOC: I set Khessa as the driver due to her having land vehicle proficiency. Should someone else rather drive, they can take over for her. For this first week of travel, everyone please roll a d20 for me. Of course, if anyone would like to speak to Malekith or the stablehands while you were with them, you are welcomed to!)
Khessa takes the time to ask Malekith: "I heared Ozemon taking of Shadow Hunters to you... Are they after T'bitha? Be careful, you all, while we are away... if they discover where she is and think the mansion is poorly defended, they could even come to the idea to strike there... Don't be afraid to leverage Ozemon's influence to get help from the authorities! I want to find you all still there and still well, when I come back... do you understand?"
You hear in your head "Only the shadowhunters know their reason to be within the city walls, but whatever they are, they're never good. Do not fret, Miz'el is at the estate and is more than capable of handling them."
Miz'el? Miz'el is his evil sister... Do you meant someone else to be at the estate, right?
However, during the journey, at the first stop Khessa withdraws alone for a moment in an isolated place and, when she returns, she has with her a sort of goblinoid with a horn on his forehead.
"He is Avimm!" the blonde arcane warrior introduces him to everyone else with a smile "Even if he sometimes seems to disappear, you will often see him next to me... we are practically inseparable".
She will keep him by her side when she gets in again to drive the wagon.
“I will sit up front with you and observe if you do not mind,” Dusk says as they begin their travels, eye stones seemingly growing in its skull watching the world pass by with clear curiosity and fascination.
“Avimm! Indeed. Have a seat chap.” Togar conjures a cushioned seat for goblinoid during the wagon ride, he heads back to his own and enjoys the cushioning to lessen the jostling of the ride. When darkness comes he looks with his sharp eyes through the gloom, helping to keep watch at night.
Kell sits towards the back of the wagon, leaning up against one of the railings. For the first leg of the journey he mostly sits with his hat tilted low, snoozing. It isn't quite clear whether he is sleeping or not, but he moves very little and doesn't make a whole lot of sound. When the wagon stops for the first time, however, he sits up immediately, eyes bright and unclouded. As he does, the fur scarf that was around his neck starts to move, stretching, and reveals two beady black eyes above a small but elongated snout. It seems to be some sort of weasel, or at least a relation of one, but its bushy tail and penchant for sitting on it's hind legs makes it look almost squirrel-like. With a yawn, it starts to chitter in Kell's ear, and he reaches into a pocket to pull out a small morsel of dried jerky which it gobbles up.
When he sees the goblinoid figure, Kell perks up. "Hey fella, nice to meet you."

“I will take responsibility for what I have done. [...] If must fall, I will rise each time a better man.” ― Brandon Sanderson, Oathbringer.
As the wagon sets off on its journey, Erlang finds himself lost in his own thoughts, his eyes gazing absently at the passing landscape. His fingers dance lightly over the surface of the harmonica, sometimes bringing it to his lips to coax soft and melancholic melodies from its delicate frame. The music weaves through the air, a soothing accompaniment to the rhythmic clip-clop of hooves on the road.
With his hand resting under his chin, Erlang's gaze wanders towards his fellow travelers. His attention briefly shifts to Khessa's goblinoid companion, a flicker of interest crossing his features, before going back to his own thoughts.
As Khessa returns to the wagon, you all see this small shadowy black creature. It almost seems as if it's made of shadows themselves the way you watch its form shift and a charcoal smoke drift off it's body before dissipating. You could mistake it for a goblin, if it wasn't so much smaller than your normal goblin. A pygmy goblin perhaps? But nonetheless, the fact that it has a rhinoceros style horn protruding from the front of its face is a good indicator that it is no normal goblinoid creature. Togar you conjure a nice cushion for this creature, Kell, you speak to it, and everyone else takes a chance to look at it. It's solid black eyes seem to take in each of you before the creature vanishes into a puff of smoke. You watch as the smoke trails off toward Khessa's hand and vanishing.
Khessa
You hear in your head "Only the shadowhunters know their reason to be within the city walls, but whatever they are, they're never good. Do not fret, Khashana is at the estate. There's more to her than just being a beautiful wife and mother."
After Avimm vanished in a puff of smoke, you hear "no" in a deep, somewhat aggressive tone. Even though it was only a single telepathic word in your head, you feel as if it was a complete sentence and you get the understanding that Dhaekzhil isn't a fan of the sun.
Your first week of travel is a fairly easy one, after all, the roads near Whiteridge City are always pretty darn safe. There were a couple memorable things that happened on the road however. At one point, not too far south of Whiteridge, you passed a young girl running down the road giggling. She was putting a ring on her finger and removing it over and over again. As the ring popped on her finger, she would turn invisible, only to turn visible again as she removed it. You passed a group of Orange Knights, also known as Magma Knights, they were pulling a barred wagon with three heavily shackled prisoners inside of it.
You would all know the Orange Knights are a sect of a larger group of elemental knights known as Primordial Knights. They're independent from any governing body on Aelira, and even Weskeilia as a whole, but they do provide services for the Aelira Council. What cookie jars the knights have their fingers in are unknown, but they are a very powerful organization--both politically and otherwise.
At some point in the week, you passed through Roonshire. You all know this is the last town you'll travel through until you get to your destination of Wolfwater. However, that is 4 weeks away. This will likely be your last chance to purchase anything from a shop until you reach Wolfwater. If you've realized you need anything else, now is the time to get it! Just outside of Roonshire you passed by a cart stuck in the upper branches of a large oak tree, with no signs of how it got there.
None of you have a background feature that helps you provide food for yourself and friends, but Khessa is proficient in survival so, 2 of the 7 days of travel, Khessa was able to find food for you to eat, temporarily saving your rations. The other 5 days however, each of you consume one of your rations.
Khessa tries to call the girl, curious, to have a chat: "Hello, nice girl, have a good day! How nice to meet a person in such a good mood! That ring you're wearing is really fun! Can you tell me how you got it?"
- Cart stuck in tree canopy
Khessa is intrigued by the phenomenon and she would like to check the cart. She places herself in the shade of the large oak tree (since Avimm doesn't like the sun) then causes Avimm to appear in the upper branches (she can do it, right? If Avimm works as a familiar, as an action she should be able to cause it to reappear in any unoccupied space within 30') to let him examine the cart (what it contains and if it has distinctive features that make it clear who it belongs to)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
---Girl with ring---
About to speak up, Dusk decides to let Khessa do the talking, but instead reaches its two-fingered hand up to tap the side of its head, causing its eye-stones to nearly disappear from their sockets. It's eye-stones then briefly flash as it focuses its observational abilities ((11)) around the world to see if there is anything else to note.
---cart in tree---
As the horned goblin flies up towards the cart, Dusk says, "I could perhaps summon a weapon of sorts to attempt and knock it down from there. Though small creatures flying up to see it is perhaps a better option." The final line both referring to the familiar as well as with an eye-stone turned to Togar.
((I may jump into other things as others RP them, but for now this is what I'll start with.))
Togar hops off of the wagon by flying up in the air, landing down in front of the little girl, not too near here, 10 feet in front, but with a ta daaaa! sound. He walks up to her with a big smile. “That’s a cool ring that you have! I can make one that glows, it is a neat thing! Have a look at this one!” Togar creates a dimly glowing ring in his hand with his conjuration skill, and shooting sparks and a puff of smoke fly around from his hand when he creates it. He kneels down and shows her, saying. “Isn’t that cool? Trade ya! Would you like to have my ring, in exchange for yours?”
Orange Knights :
Togar stands and says “Ho there, greetings, and safe travels to you. Do you have any word from the road ahead? You haven’t seen any bandits nearby, have you?” Just opening a conversation to see if they have any news.
Cart stuck in the tree :
Togar steps up and begins flapping his wings, taking flight. He goes up to the cart to look inside. If he sees anything of use, he will use his mage hand to take it, open the lid, etc. He would make sure that the wagon was away from the cart and not underneath when he did this.
Kell seems mostly uninterested with the invisible child, but does raise an eyebrow at the sight of the owl trying to scam the young girl with a ring that he himself said will disappear after an hour. He calls out to the girl, "Run along kid, the bird is just playing around." He then addresses Togar "Let the meanderings of other lives pass you by, there aint nothing you need to give them, nor take from them neither."
Orange Knights :
Kell gives the knights a couple of glances as they approach, then pulls his hat down on his brow, pretending to be asleep. One hand surreptitiously moves down his leg to rest on the leather case strapped there. Once they are gone, he pushes his hat back up, then pulls a deck of cards from his pocket and starts to do a few flourishes and other tricks.
Roonshire:
Kell does head into the market when they reach Roonshire, picking up enough rations to last the rest of the trip.
(I completely forgot to add the hunting trap and oil to my sheet, fixed it now. Would Kell be able to set the trap out every night somewhere a good ways off to the side of the road to try and supplement their meals with some fresh meat?)
Dusk as you cast see invisibility you don't see anything else of note. You do see the girl indefinitely though. When she puts the ring on her finger, and when she takes it off. Khessa you speak out to the girl and she responds "I found it!" she continues to giggle and play with it until Togar flies down near the girl making dazzling sounds. He then conjures a glowing ring with another fanciful display"whoooa" the little girl mutters under her breath as she has come to a dead stop watching this owl person display a fancy ring. About this time Kell hollers over, which snaps her out of her trance, slightly. Togar make a persuasion check. (OOC: It was almost at advantage lol) Being up close to her, and especially you, Togar, you notice while her dress is simple in design, it's made of exquisite, top of the line material.
Orange Knights
Togar you get a response from one of the Orange Knights "roads are clear to Roonshire" The rest of the knights don't pay your cart any attention. They don't seem particularly chatting and you're not sure if that's just how they are or if it's because they're transporting prisoners.
(OOC: It's worth noting, your wagon is covered. So, you don't necessarily need to hide yourself from passersby, the wagon does it well enough.)
Roonshire
Your group makes a quick stop in Roonshire, where Kell picks up a few additional rations.
Cart in tree
Khessa you send Avimm up to the cart, and Togar you fly up to the cart. Togar, you notice something small in the cart and begin to conjure your mage hand to grab it, but Avimm snatches it first, swats at your mage hand, sort of stuffs whatever it was into its shadowy body, and then vanishes into a puff of smoke again. You see two things happen-- first you watch the smoke beeline it toward Khessa similar to the first time Avimm disappeared into a cloud of smoke. Secondly, you see whatever small object it was that the creature stuffed into its body falls down to the ground as it disappeared. Other than some leaves and branches, the cart seems empty now. It surprisingly has minimal damage for being up in a tree.
(OOC: I will give Erlang a chance to post before moving on to week 2, so he can interact with anything he desires. Moving forward, I'll have you roll an additional d20, Kell, to determine your hunting trap's general usefulness. Be sure to update your sheet with your new rations and deduct your gold, Kell)
Khessa is really not pleased to see Togar try to cheat a poor girl and tells him: "Togar! You should not do this... It would be not right!" she winks at him "Don't you remember? You promised to give your ring to me! Don't dare to change your mind only because you have met a younger girl! If you want to trade with the girl, go ahead, but offer her something else; ideally something more... lasting, right?"
Anyway, to the girl: "You have been lucky to find such a nice thing. We might be interested in buying it from you or giving you something in exchange for it. What would you ask for the item?"
- Cart in tree:
Khessa thanks her 'friend': "Thank you, Avimm! That was very kind of you" then she takes the item recovered and shows it to all (or at least to all that are interested). What is it?
Dusk observes Erlang as he walks near the horses, and decides while the others talk to explore these friendly beasts. Walking over towards the horses it remembers something it had read and simply holds its hands up hear the horse to let the creature examine it. With a quick vibration of its head, Dusk seems satisfied at what it considers a successful first interaction as the horse sniffs at his 2-fingered mostly stone and wooden hand.
“I will take responsibility for what I have done. [...] If must fall, I will rise each time a better man.” ― Brandon Sanderson, Oathbringer.
Girl with ring
Dusk as you cast see invisibility you don't see anything else of note. You do see the girl indefinitely though. When she puts the ring on her finger, and when she takes it off. Khessa you speak out to the girl and she responds "I found it!" she continues to giggle and play with it until Togar flies down near the girl making dazzling sounds. He then conjures a glowing ring with another fanciful display "whoooa" the little girl mutters under her breath as she has come to a dead stop watching this owl person display a fancy ring.
A Graduation to be Remembered | A Village Bathed in Crimson
- Girl with the ring
What is it?
