Backstory:
Brakoba is an half-orc who spend the first part of his life as the apprentice of Prof. Teddleweddle - the old gnome master alchemist of the town of (Insert town). Quite clever, he was having a happy life. People liked him and he pursued the goal of taking over the shop of his master when the time comes.
That was until that evening. He was working late, brewing some potions needed for the next day when a group of six thugs, all wearing a strange marks showed up asking for money and specific potions. To make it clear that they were not joking, they pushed the old master who slammed his head on the counter and fall dead. Everything went fast, Brakoba's blood boiled, letting the fury of his ancient ancestors overcome his reason. The half-orc fought to death, destroying the lab and dismembering the thugs. Exhausted and losing blood, he fell on the floor, with the alchemist shop burning around him. The fumes of hundred of burning potions filled his lung. He closed his eyes, ready to rejoin his master. But Fate had other plans….
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Last question: does all material found in the Acq. Inc. book be used or is it merely the setting with everything else kept within standard D&D rulings?

First off, thank you to everyone who has shown interest in this campaign! I never would have expected to see so much support in such a short time.
Unfortunately, the campaign (titled Time is Our Shipping Lane) would become too easy with more than 4-6 characters, so I cannot include all of you in it. The following characters have been chosen to be in the campaign:
For money, adventure, or some other reason, you have joined Acquistions Incorporated. After a briefing conference with a delegate from Head Office, you have traveled to the small town of Grentan, where you meet with the others who you will found a franchise. They are not hard to find in the single tavern of the village, as most of the other folk here are simple farmers. During briefing, you were told that your majordomo would be a few days behind you, and you must find a headquarters to work from and gain some level of trust from the locals. How you do that is up to you.
Welcome to the Orange Grung tavern. You can roleplay with other characters, talk to one of the locals, start a bar fight, or do almost anything else within your power. There are a lot of middle aged farmers present, simply talking and drinking. You also see several groups gambling in various games, a old, wizened man, and several drunks.
If you wish to interact with a local, describe what you do, justify what type of roll you will use, and roll any ability, skill, or ability with a tool. You may also roll your spellcasting ability modifier + your proficiency bonus if you describe how you use magic. There is no initiative.
(OOC: Are we okay to use the starting gold from our background to purchase some additional equipment prior to the start of play? Specifically, Kit needs to pick up a thelarr and a quiver. Thanks!)
Kit secures a table large enough for the group or, barring that, pushes a pair of tables together. Flagging down the nearest barmaid, the young noble orders a round of ale for the table and a couple of bottles of wine while waiting for the others to arrive...
(OOC: Yes, you would absolutely have the ability to buy equipment (at least PHB adventuring gear) before the campaign, although you can't during the campaign except under certain circumstances)
The party is already present, I apologize if I did not do a good job of explaining that. The ale is good, a brand not uncommon in rural villages.
A young man, wearing a farmer's hat, walks over to your table. "Who are you folks? We don't get many outsiders here."
Brakoba grabs a mug full of ale - the red wine has never been of his taste. The tall half-orc, wearing pelt as cloth, looks at the young man. "A band of mercenaries...but the good ones, hein." winking and showing his front teeth. "If everything goes well, you'll see us often around here from what I get. Our job is to take some contracts, fulfilling them, getting paid and drinking".
Close to him, rest his shield and a beautifully engraved warpick, never too far from his reach - this is how he survived all the fights he has been in. He have a long drink and smashes the mug back on the table: "Hey, the taste is not that bad ! Compliment to the brewer."
"Kit Harrowhark,"Kit says, extending a hand in greeting.
"This is Leif, Tully, Jennlin, Grogan, and the big fellow at the end there is Brakoba. Please, join us mister...?" Kit motions the barmaid to bring an ale for their guest.
Lief looks up from his book at the mention of his name he notices his contractual colleagues and the young farmer, “Well hello young man. Have you come looking for answers? If so all you need to do is ask.”
Noticing his mug of ‘ale’ mostly water, he slightly shakes his head as if to say he’d be dying before sipping from this mug... “Bring a pitcher of milk too fresh.”
Jennlin is a bit of a curiosity usually to those who first meet her, as her kind from the Shadowfell are not always too common, and her rather bleak outlook at times, and oft misunderstandings can leave some wary. But to those that hold firm or find her curious enough to delve deeper, find someone that is not as different as one might think, just viewed through a different lens. Treating almost every new person and situation with suspicion, it has taken some time to develop some amount of trust with her group, but it is clear now she is on their side.
Seeing the introductions being made she simply stares at the encroaching farmer but lets the others do the talking at first, a practice she found mutually beneficial in most cases. She sniffed the ale a bit and swirled it slowly in the mug before taking a small sip, and waiting to hear who the visitor was.
Tully sits among his fellows tuning his lute and nods a horned head at the farmer. He then stands and walks to the center of the room and being playing for the crowd for money. A little Fey ditty he loves.
[can I do a performance check to see how the crowd responds?]
Grogan the little halfling stands on the seat of his chair, leaning over the backrest, with the chair turned suck that he faces the table in this position. He gives a little nod and wave at the mention of his name to the newcomer.
Seeing Tully make his way out into the crowd to play a tune, Grogan decides to to down the rest of his mug and remove his bugle at his side. He attempts to accompany the Satyr (helping Tully on his performance check to entertainthe crowd)

"Contracts, eh? There have been some monsters around lately... How do I know you're here to help?"
Make a ability check using a skill or tool of your choice, then justify the skill you used and how it convinces him.
"Kit Harrowhark,"Kit says, extending a hand in greeting.
"This is Leif, Tully, Jennlin, Grogan, and the big fellow at the end there is Brakoba. Please, join us mister...?" Kit motions the barmaid to bring an ale for their guest.
"I am Gilbert Roughhat, but my friends call me Gill. Don't really know you fellas yet, though. By the looks of you, you must be adventurers. We do have some monsters around, but how do I know you can be trusted?"

Absolutely, make a performance check - with advantage, as Grogan is Helping you.
Grogan the little halfling stands on the seat of his chair, leaning over the backrest, with the chair turned suck that he faces the table in this position. He gives a little nod and wave at the mention of his name to the newcomer.

Tully will have advantage on his check.
Also, remember your goals are to find a headquarters and gain trust from the locals. Info that might help with either requires a ability check, you can use any ability/skill/tool if you can justify how it is used.
Kit gives a sad sigh as Lief launches into his spiel but politely waits a moment or two before interrupting.
"Yes, yes, that's very...informative, but I'm sure Gill didn't come over here to learn more about his own trade from the likes of us."
"Here, Miss," Kit says, taking the ale from the barmaid and setting it down in front of Gill.
"You've a good eye, we are adventurers," Kit casts a glance at Tully and Grogan, "though at the moment I'd say we're also a passable minstrel troupe"
"Please have a seat, we'd love to hear about this monster problem of yours, but I don't like to talk business with strangers. Tell me about yourself. Have you always lived here?"
