Rime, with a cloud of invisible icy daggers around her, stares at the hell wasp and prepares for its attack. (Rime’s AC is 13 for this encounter)

Sorry, I'm beginning to enter a vacation period and while I will try to check-in at least daily, I cannot promise that I will always be able to do so. From September 1, I should be back to normal.
Eladan take the full blast of the beast breath, badly singed, he snarls and goes on the attack and BA'ing another 2nd level spell slot for healing. Healing: 12
Bite to hit: 25 damage:12 Claw to hit: 9 damage: 9
The Hellhoud (11/45) recharges its breath 5-6 6
The Hellhound uses uncanny luck and indigestion to use Fire Breath (again), Dexterity Save DC 12 to take half of 24 fire damage.
Eladan manages to dodge some of it's breath, but the smell of burnt bear is strong. He bites and claws at the fiend, and BA's a 1st level slot for healing
Note: Before moving back on his last turn, Peter used Mold Earth to undo the creation of cover he had made before. Is there another mound that was around?
No, my mistake, I was thinking you were in a new location and attempting to hide behind the mound. You out maneuver the Merregon and you have utility to disengage as a BA. Well done using the Difficult Terrain. “Whatever you do,” cried Brer Rabbit, “Don't throw me into the briar patch”
Strategy-wise, the Merregon is only 6 intelligence so, he has stopped attempting to engage in melee and instead will try his hand at Heavy Crossbow at range
Alrighty. (And I do like how these arenas are. The ladders/walls in the T2 and rough terrain in T3 have been interesting. Curious what T4 will be with what I assume will be icy/snow terrain.)
Peter watches as the bolt goes by and shoots another starry arrow at the fiend.

A small raven glides down from the sky to land a few feet away from you. It turns into a black skinned imp who speaks in common ,"I serve the dark man, the shadow king, the ebony skinned master of all things that revel in the night, my master Graz'zt."
The imp winces as if you were about to strike it with magic or weapon. Opening its eyes to see that no harm has been done, it continues. "My master, the handsome and cunning Prince of Seduction, has sent me as an attorney to barter a deal. I have a contract here, completely legal and fair, and one that does not require a blood oath or bartering of one's soul. No a gods-honest contract, to deliver you riches and wealth if you agree to these simple terms."
"What are these terms. See for yourself." From a 15 foot scroll of flowery language, the imp begins to read, "The party, well that's you, dum dum dum, and more legal-ease. Ah, yes, here is the part. In an effort to form a partnership of mutual interest, master Graz'zt bequeath unto you five-hundred platinum pieces for your services."
"What services does he ask? Um, that's a bit further down. Let me see. dum dum dum, yagga yagga droll. Here it is, these teleportation circles. It says here, the party must destroy this teleportation circle, here on the volcano level and one other lower down. And there is a map, that show you how to get to the lower levels."
"What do you say? Mutual cease fire, friend? Will you destroy both these portals for a ton of money? I know how you folks love wealth, so is it a deal? Can I get you to sign here? Take this map, find the second portal, destroy them both. Maybe you can destroy this one first, then travel to the next one and destroy it from the other side? Hey, it doesn't say how you need to destroy them, just that you do."
"Let's make a deal."
Peter wrinkles his nose in thought as the imp speaks. As it finishes speaking he replies, "Allow me some time to think." He does a little mold earth to create a makeshift seat to sit upon as he ponders.
In his head he thinks: 500 platinum? That's more than I think I've ever seen. With that kind of money we'd never want ever again. Not my wife, Graalia not Dad, not even the avunculi or cousins. The whole extended Gathakanathi family would be living easy. We could even resurrect Grandpa! Yeah... Grandpa, a cleric of life. For that matter Dad too. What would they say if they found out I was consorting with a fiend? I don't think I'd be able to look them in the eyes. For that matter I'm pretty sure my wife wouldn't be too pleased either. What was it Dad found in that castle? Potions of fire resistance. Well, looking at this place that makes sense. But also potions of cold resistance and water breathing. Cold resistance? That doesn't seem to fit this place... or any these lower planes cold? (Arcana: 13+1 = 14, think it's reasonable to treat that as knowing basic knowledge) I guess there are. But then why did that iron-masked fiend attack me? Under the thrall of the wizard: should've been attacked by this... Graz'zt that wants the portals gone. Under the thrall of Graz'zt: probably a test of sorts but why has he not destroyed the portals himself?
He turns to the imp and stands up. "I have questions." he says, "Was that iron-mask under your master's command? Why does he want the portals destroyed? And why has he not destroyed them himself?"
"Tricks, you think? My master is the Lord of Indulgence, the Prince of Seduction, the Master of Forbidden Knowledge. Yes, he is partner to a Black Wizard, and yet, he does not like this partnership anymore. You can act as a third party and help my master change his agreement with the Black Wizard. If you do this, then it is not my master who does."
"You're a fiend. Of course I'll think there are tricks." replies Peter with a smile. He slowly, to indicate non-threating, unsheathes his scimitar. "I may have a silvered blade. But you have silvered tongues." He pauses in thought.
He thinks: A wizard? What else did Dad mention? A wizard of at least 17th level. Naydal. Trying to conquer the world with portals and in his notes was an description of... Shebaz the size of a tarrasque. And... mushrooms.
"But in this matter there may be common ground." He sheathes the scimitar and eyes the contract. "Suppose that I do accept an agreement in this matter, how long would I have to destroy the portals prior to... undesirable outcomes?"
{{OOC self-note: see if time to assume the starry form with bonus to INT checks for reading over contract or if will need to save resources for another fight prior to long rest possibility of "I ain't the sharpest tool in the toolbox, but am a man of my word." rejecting signing a contract and going with word or using mold earth as scratch paper for suggesting new contracts need to see whether or not to keep Naydal/Shebaz knowledge to self. may culminate in tarrasque fight if not stopped, providing motive for Graz'zt to not want it loose depending on lore-stuff }}
After handing in her report and shop, Rime returns to the portal. she casts Armor of Agathys from a level 3 scroll (bought 5) Arcana dc 13: 7149147 (as soon as one is higher than 13, she stops to save resources)
Then she doffs her armor as it can be terribly warm in hell and steps through the portal to find a Hell Wasp!
Initiative: 4
Hellwasp initiative 8
The Hellwasp (52/52), flies 60 feet to make two attacks,
Hellwasp Sting Attack: 18 Damage: 21, on hit make a Constitution DC 12 vs poison and paralyze Hellwasp Sword Talons Attack: 20 Damage: 10
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Both attacks of the wasp hit Rime square (DC 12 CON - 18, You should roll the damage types separately I think, I can't see the fire damage and if it would have been high, I would have used absorb elements on only the fire damage). Rime tries to fend of the Sting attack with a parry (6).
The wasp, however gets sliced by the icy daggers surrounding Rime, dealing a total of 30 cold damage (which is 60 damage due to its vulnerability).

Hehe. The wasp didn't have a chance, not with parry and absorb elements. You might want to rethink the hellwasp encounter in the next round... But then, you can't forever ignore vulnerabilities, right?
The forum dice roller is terribly buggy. More often than not the mouseover tooltips of the rolls don't work. And even when they work, they are wrong a significant number of times. Best is to roll each dice independently if you need the dice rolls separately (as we do in the dice rolling challenges in the off-topic threads). Besides, the mouseover problem, the rolls can get corrupted ('manipulated dice rolls'- message) simply after posting even without ever editing the post. But well, other than that, the dice roller functionality is great, makes games like this so much easier and faster.

{{OOC self-note: see if time to assume the starry form with bonus to INT checks for reading over contract or if will need to save resources for another fight prior to long rest possibility of "I ain't the sharpest tool in the toolbox, but am a man of my word." rejecting signing a contract and going with word or using mold earth as scratch paper for suggesting new contracts need to see whether or not to keep Naydal/Shebaz knowledge to self. may culminate in tarrasque fight if not stopped, providing motive for Graz'zt to not want it loose depending on lore-stuff }}
"Look here, it says two suns fall over the Material Plane. That's Tomorrows Morrow. Time flows differently here, so maybe a healf-moon in the Abyss."
Two days? Peter lets out a sharp sigh. "I will destroy the portals." he says, "But I will not sign your contract. Keep your-" he gulps down a sigh at turning down such a sum, "Keep your platinum. And while I trust neither the intricacies of fiendish writing nor my ability to divine their traps, I do know my own convictions. So allow me to make a counter-proposal. A gentlemen's agreement." he continues, "I will do what I can to destroy the portals and then return home. You will do what you can to aid me. Knowledge of how to get to the portals, information on what's in the locales, and access to supplies are things it seems I will need your aid with. And furthermore, let us govern this agreement not by the ins-and-outs of legalistic interpretations of each word, but by the spirit of good intent. I did not come here seeking fame nor riches, but to follow a quest my grandfather started. I intend to see it through." He spits in his hand and offers it up to the imp.

Eladan manages to dodge some of it's breath, but the smell of burnt bear is strong. He bites and claws at the fiend, and BA's a 1st level slot for healing
Bite to hit: 12 damage: 5
claw to hit: 10 damage: 9

The Hellwasp (52/52), flies 60 feet to make two attacks,
Hellwasp Sting Attack: 18 Damage: 21, on hit make a Constitution DC 12 vs poison and paralyze
Hellwasp Sword Talons Attack: 20 Damage: 10
Both attacks of the wasp hit Rime square (DC 12 CON - 18, You should roll the damage types separately I think, I can't see the fire damage and if it would have been high, I would have used absorb elements on only the fire damage). Rime tries to fend of the Sting attack with a parry (6).
The wasp, however gets sliced by the icy daggers surrounding Rime, dealing a total of 30 cold damage (which is 60 damage due to its vulnerability).

Hellhound bites Attack: 25 Damage: 17 and 7 fire damage
The hounds attack knocks Eladan out his bear form, grimacing, he decides to try something different and BA shifts into a large dire wolf and lunges for an attack
Bite to hit: 16 damage: 10
Note taken, I'll split the fire going forward. Does anyone have an idea why the mouseover sometimes doesn't work for rolls?
Either way, it looks like you outsmarted this combat. I guess the Hellwasp could have done 15+ damage in the initial attack and only taken 30 after vulnerabilities.

@Cyreon: That take-down of the hellwasp... brilliant! I'd been thinking it was the hardest between its flight and potential to paralyze with its stinger (which was particularly concerning). And you just took down in a jiffy.
