Rules
The following are the rules for posting and playing in this game. Please read these rules carefully and follow them as you best can. Always feel free to ask questions or for clarification on rules.
Posting
When not in battle, post to your heart's content. When in battle, we will strictly adhere to the order of initiative.
All posts should be in the third person. I do not care about your tense as long as I can read it!
Use "Quotations" when you speak. Pick a color and use that color for your speech. This makes posts easier to read and see who is talking. Bolding your speech is recommended, but not enforced. Please choose a color that is easy to read. You may be asked to change the color of your speech.***
Sentences should be complete. No chatroom speak or excessive use of shorthand.
Most rolls will occur in the thread. There may be moments, for the sake of secrecy, you may be asked to roll in private. I'll provide direction on when this happens. 😃
If you are on mobile, please copy and paste the following to be able to make rolls: [ roll]1d#+#[/roll], a space is before the first r in roll, so delete that and it will roll. Replace # with relevant numbers.
Keep most OOC to the OOC thread or discord aside from leaving quick questions or statements inside of (parenthesis).
When using abilities, please provide the tooltip for ease of access!*** (Example in spoiler)
How do the tooltips/links to spells etc work?
D&D Beyond offers the ability to link certain aspects on the forum in mouse-over triggered tooltips, such as magic items, monsters or combat actions - examples being Adult Black Dragon and dash. To create tooltips in this way as these, use the appropriate [tag][/tag] around the desired subject.
Example: [ magicitem]sunblade[/ magicitem] (Without spaces within the [ ] brackets.)
When in combat, you can roleplay out what you are doing, but please have a summary similar to this:*** (Example in spoiler)
Zomith, hurt and bleeding felt a second wind surge through her. She couldn't allow herself to be beaten just yet! "RAAGH!" She shouts as she attempts to drive her blade through the goblin.
Bonus: [Tooltip Not Found]healing self for 8 hp Action: Attack roll 11 with longsword at the goblin adjacent to me, dealing 6 Movement: none
(OOC: Even with second wind, I am low on HP, could anyone help out?)
When we are in combat, feel free to post your turn whenever, even when out of sequence. The DM will summarize everyone's posts and include enemy action and movement at the end of the round.
***If you are posting by phone, you can ignore these rules, however, know that the DM has FULL discretion to interpret your actions in battle and retconning will NOT OCCUR if I misunderstood your actions. This will probably mostly apply to movement rather than spells/attacks/abilities. I have no proof anyone is playing by phone, so I will just trust you. Just know the risks!
Home Rules
The Help Action This action has obvious use in combat but doesn't have many rules associated with it outside of combat. For that reason, please follow these rules when using the Help Action outside of combat.
You must be trained in the skill to use the Help Action to aid someone in their check.
It must make sense for you to help someone out in the given situation. For instance, if Person A is trying to intimidate an NPC, then perhaps Person B can add threats, make rude gestures, or other things to help Person A out. If it wouldn't make sense for you to help someone out, then you cannot use the Help Action. This includes situations where it would make more sense for Person B to make their own roll. For example, when trying to track an enemy, Person A looks for tracks. Person B cannot stand there critiquing how Person A is using their eyes to look for signs. It just makes more sense for Person B to make their own survival roll.
If you are going to use the Help Action, you must describe what you are doing to help the other person.
Lifestyle Costs
For each day spent in Shepherd's Crossing, each character must pay Lifestyle Costs as a way of abstracting the individual costs of lodging and food. Provided below are a series of possible scenarios and their associated costs. (Special: cost of living is mysteriously suspended while you quest outside the walls... this may change if it is too lax.)
Homelessness: Benefits: -1d12 on Information Gathering related checks. (Ex: Investigation or Persuasion) Daily Cost: 0 GP.
Shantytown Living (Outside the wall): Benefits: -1d6 on Information Gathering related checks. (Ex: Investigation or Persuasion) Daily Cost: 1 GP.
Apartments/Shared Living Spaces/Tavern(Outside the wall): Benefits: +1d4 on Information Gathering related checks. (Ex: Investigation or Persuasion) Daily Cost: 3 GP.

Information Gathering
Adventurers can spend downtime and GP to gather information, hear rumors, or find quests in addition to those discovered on job boards or handed to them by essential NPCs. When a character is information gathering, please indicate they are doing so in the post with a note of some kind, and indicate the sort of information the character is seeking. For example, (Zomith is Information Gathering for different quests./ Zomith is Information Gathering for a lead on a cool magic item.) The DM will then help guide the character to various NPCs or locations where they may need to do a series of checks to receive the information. Characters searching for information may receive bonus or penalty die from their living expenses and a +1 bonus per 10 GP spent on this activity.
With a series of failures, the Character may suffer either:
Learning a rumor which gains them no useful information, but neither the character nor the player know.

???, third daughter of Lysuna. (Assumed)
Grimmore, god of the dead. Has a cult that worships him in the present day.
Known myths or legends:
The Guardian (unclear what the actual title is for the Su'dorei). Seems to follow most of the versions you've seen of the Guardian, except the hero is a woman and not a man, and [sleeping beauty] is something that seems to be without gender.
Grimmore and Fiani. Seems very similar to the story of Oreus and Udea. Explanation of the seasons. (Basically Hades and Persephone with some small differences.)
Feywild
The Feywild seems to be a fantastical place filled with magic and wonder. People of all kinds seem to end up abducted there, though most commonfolk don't believe the Feywild to be a real place.
Rumors:
Potential Portal: Seems there may be a portal to the Feywild out in the Emerald Woods.
Skysovereign
Mr. McCawn and Ms. Canaria informed the party of a place/object known as the Skycovereign, which has something to do with the Goddess of Song, Aarkraca the Songbird.

It is Monday, the sixth of Drite in the year 1251. It is a pleasantly warm evening as the sun patiently waits to set. If the day has been any indication, there won't be a cloud in sight tonight and you can get a clear view of the first quarter Luna.
You all find yourselves at the Viridian Tankard, one of the taverns inside the walls of Shepherd's Crossing. The drinks are good, the food passable, and best of all, it isn't quite as expensive as most places within the safety of the walls. It is quite busy inside, filled with some you recognize as farmers and many who look like travelers, all the tables and seats at the bar were taken, and you all find yourselves having to share a table with each other despite your possible urges to be standoffish. Do any of you know each other? Acquaintances, friends, or frenemies? Please introduce yourself in prose or verbally to your table mates.
As you chat, or don't, amongst yourselves, there is a trio of bards playing in front of the fireplace. At the bar of the tavern, you see Chomond, the halfling owner, serving patrons. Blond, blue-eyed, and in possession of all his teeth, he is quite chipper as he pours mead into a glass of a relaxing farmer. Unless you are in the know, this might seem odd to you as he should be too short to see over the bar normally. If you are in the know, you understand the bar slopes upward behind the bar as the staff is made completely up of halflings that make due.
One such halfling, Linia, another blond haired and blue-eyed halfling woman, has been by to drop off your orders. (You can have anything from the menu in front of you to eat/drink, it won't be penalized against you... this time. ;) )
The menu is as follows:
Buckwheat Bread and Curd Cheese, Mug of Mead Pottage, Mug of Beer Smoked Boar and Dried Artichoke, Tankard of Stout Dried Bear and Dried Leek, Tankard of Ale Pottage, Mug of Beer Boiled Eggs and Oat Bread, Tankard of Cider Rye Porridge, Mug of Beer Boiled Crayfish and Leek, Tankard of Stout
The Map, you are the dots (no color is any one in particular, as always, click on the map to be taken to a bigger picture):

Merrick sits down, content and happy. The halfling staff makes him feel welcome and at home. The tarven is warm, and the food smells good. He eyes the large mugs of ale thirstily. He shrugs off his traveling cloak, revealing his reddish-brown tumbled hair. Not curly, but not straight either, it's just long enough to almost reach his eyes.
He sort of picked this table more or less at random. The people here seem so interesting! All tallfolk, but a human, a dwarf, and an elf. The elf looks different, too. His skin and eyes look different.
"Hi! I'm Merrick. Merrick Meadowgrain." He sticks out a small hand."You look different. Are you an elf? You look like one, but something is different. Your eyes and hair. Something almost tiefling about you? You're also not like the half elves I've met either. They look more human. You don't. Maybe something else? Do you want a drink? I do. I'm famished."
Merrick waves over to the serving wench.
"Hi there! Can I get the Buckwheat Bread and Curd Cheese with Mug of Mead please." He winks at Lina, giving her a flirtatious smile. "Actually can I get a half mead half ale? Sweet and strong, just like a halfling woman! Haha!"
Merrick turns to the dwarf at the table. What an interesting fellow, wearing a mask. "That's an interesting mask you have! Why do you wear it? Are you deformed? Or hideous? Or maybe looking at you is dangerous? You know, my older brother once fought some kind of creature that turned you to stone if you saw her! I think he called it a Gorgonzola. Are you a Gorgonzola too? I would have thought you were a dwarf, but you can't judge a book by it's contents, you know! Want an ale? Or a mead? I like half and half of each, you should try it. It's good. But dwarves tend to go for spirits. Can't drink a dwarf under the table, no sir you can't! Still, you should try the mead and ale combination. You'll need to take the mask off to drink. If you're hideous that's okay, but if you're going to turn us to stone let me know so I can look away first!"
Across from Merrick, Dyoken picks his teeth leaning back to see his reflection in a mirror by the wall. Before him the bones of a dried boar have been picked clean.
Dyoken wears brown pants tucked into his black boots and a loose fitting white shirt with the top buttons unfastened as they likely wouldn't close properly over his bulging shoulders. He smiles with too many teeth as though he is posing for a portrait. His features could be carved from marble and his face is framed with long flowing blond locks. On his belt he has a whip and a machete ready, but it's clear he may forego these in favor of his bare fists, were he to find himself in a fight (which isn't at all unlikely).
As the bar maid takes Merrick's order he points to his plate. "I'll have another, thank you." He leans in toward the Halfling joining his table. "A gorgonzola? Ah they are nasty ones. I've had to hop on their backs with a sack in hand to cover the features. Not that I wouldn't make a fine statue. I just also make a fine man."

Muireach, currently appearing to have dark reddish-brown hair, tan skin, and brown eyes, smiles at the halfing, “Haha! Such a warm reception from someone I don’t even know! My name is Muireach Maon, once and future Lord of Heroes. The pleasure is all mine, small one.”

I've had to hop on their backs with a sack in hand to cover the features. Not that I wouldn't make a fine statue. I just also make a fine man."
"Oho! So they *are* real then!? I didn't quite know if my brother was pulling my leg or not. He's not the type to exaggerate or pull pranks, but... turning someone to stone? That just seemed crazy! I saw some really good sculptors, they make statues so realistic, I might have believed it was someone turned to stone, if I hadn't seem them carving it myself. But you fought one? Wow! Did you use that whip? I don't see many people with a whip. Well, I've seen orc slavemasters with them..." Merrick pauses for a few seconds, his little brow furrowing darkly. "I didn't like to see that." It seems for a minute that the halfling will be sad as he recollects something.
But as quickly as the sun peeking out from behind a cloud, his face brightens. He looks at the human with green eyes devoid of guile. "You would make a fine statue! You have very smooth and even features! But I hope you wouldn't become one. I like that whip! Can you show me how to use it?"
The guests at the table find it almost impossible not to like the little halfling despite his off topic ramblings.
"Wow, Lord of Heroes! What does that mean? Are you a lord or a hero? Or does it mean you are a lord that's also a hero? I met a lord once. He gave me a ring! Well, he said he was a lord, but I'm not sure he actually was. The ring looks real though. At least real enough to show it to a mean guard that doesn't like smallfolk. Do you have a ring? I thought all lords had rings, but now I'm not so sure."
“Do I have a ring?” Muireach laughs, “My small friend, I need no ring to prove my status, for I have...” Muireach extends a hand and in it appears a fine, ornate blade of silvery blues and golds, “This. The blade, Calibolg, proves my lordship.”

As Merrick rambles Dyoken is cut off as he prepares to answer. As the little fellow trails off, asking for a demonstration, he lets out a quick boisterous laugh. "Ha! Well certainly!" He exclaims as he stands and unfurrels the long leather lash, unaware that the conversation may have already moved on. Girls nearby let out startled shouts as he cracks the whip overhead with a defeaning boom. He spreads his arm, nodding to the other patrons with a smile with one boot up on his seat.
Linia grins as Merrick complements her while she mentally notes the orders being flung to her at the table. "Ahh, such flattery will get you everywhere." Her gaze becomes mischievous.
"Don't go after that one, lad, or 'er brother will come at ya!" Another halfling calls out as he serves his table, much to that table's chagrin. You can hear muttering to the tune of, 'Why don't we get the pretty miss?'
The maidens are momentarily startled by Dyoken's display of prowess, but soon giggle as their eyes look upon him. It would seem they find him quite handsome indeed.
The sudden appearance of Muireach's blade causes the bards near the fire place to miss several notes as the rest of the tavern glances in their direction. Magic, while not incredibly rare was still not seen as often. Particularly that of a warlock. The tavern goes back to chattering in the next beat, though it seems their conversations have turned to discussing what race Muireach even was. An elf? A fabled dryad?

Merrick's eyes go wide. The weapon had materialized out of thin air! He has never seen anything like this.
"Wow! That was amazing!"
He reaches out and touches the weapon, gingerly. When it doesn't explode or take his finger off, he taps it. The blade gives a fine high ring, like a crystal glass of the most pure quality.
"It's very pretty! How did you come by it? I've never seen the like, although funny story, I once saw a flying hammer that..."
Merrick's story is cut off by a loud CRACK as Dyoken stands and demonstrates his whip.
Merrick's attention quickly turns to the human. "That was really neat! Looks like you really know how to use that! Can I try?"
Merrick blushes at Linia. He shouts back to the other table. "I don't know, that brother might have to think twice before coming to this table!" he calls back proudly. "Have you seen what these guys are doing here? Ha!"
Merrick smiles at Linia. "This is fun! I like this place!"
Dyoken frowns. "It would probably be best to practice another time. It's no toy." Dyoken returns to his seat with a grin, as he admires Linia's bossom. (Normal size, but on a small girl.)
"Would you please just shut up for 4 SECONDS you little pipsqueak!" Luthok rips of his mask and slams it into the table, revealing his face. It looks horrible, to say the least. He looks old, even by dwarf standards, maybe 300-ish years? Wrinkles have started showing around his big nose and in his forehead. He is currently frowning and looking upon the inquisitive halfling with furled, brushy brows almost covering the brackish green eyes below. The worst part of his rather unkempt facade, however, is his beard. Or whatever it is. Thick almost brown-like purple ooze saturates the half long and unkempt bush of a beard. Some of the ooze has coagulated, some of it still dripping, globby drop, by globby drop. Here and there small fungi are peeking out from the coagulated crevices decorating his facial hair.
"No I am not a blasted GORGONZOLA, NO I am not bloody dangerous unless you bug me for another five more minutes." He quickly realizes he has taken the mask off and puts it back onto his face, it sticks naturally to the oozing beard and there is no need for a strap. He dunks his fist into the table, less aggressively than before. "And to answer your last question, YES I'D LIKE SOME BOOZE." He shouts the last part of the sentence, almost as to signal the waitress to get him something, anything with alcohol in it.

(Tavern BGM, warning it plays immediately.)
Buckwheat Bread and Curd Cheese, Mug of Mead
Pottage, Mug of Beer
Smoked Boar and Dried Artichoke, Tankard of Stout
Dried Bear and Dried Leek, Tankard of Ale
Pottage, Mug of Beer
Boiled Eggs and Oat Bread, Tankard of Cider
Rye Porridge, Mug of Beer
Boiled Crayfish and Leek, Tankard of Stout

Merrick Meadowgrain." He sticks out a small hand. "You look different.

Can I try?"

Merrick blushes at Linia. He shouts back to the other table. "I don't know, that brother might have to think twice before coming to this table!" he calls back proudly. "Have you seen what these guys are doing here? Ha!"
Merrick smiles at Linia. "This is fun! I like this place!"

Muireach glances around the tavern and gives the same gesture as Dyoken, albeit with a sly smile, satisfied with stunning the room.
