Tessa breathes quickly and processes the scene, wide-eyed. She digs in her bag for a moment and retrieves a carrot, taking a couple of large bites before suddenly formulating a plan.
She leaps down, breaks the remaining vegetable in two, and shares the pieces with the stray horses. "May as well bring you boys home."
Syzygy stows his crossbow and as Tessa passes he offers her praise, "You give as good as you take, remind me not to get in your way...".
Then the Shadar-kai moves towards where he saw the sniped Goblin fall, then turning to Quinn asks, "Do you think the owners of these horses escaped, or were they dragged, or carried off?" Syzygy has some proficiency with tracking and offers to help the hunter take a closer look at the tracks leading down the trail. [in hope to give Quinn advantage on his next role if he so chooses to make it]
Sir Roderick looked across towards Syzygy with a wicked grin, " Satisfied?"
" We should only venture off if we can be certain that the caravan is safe until our return."

The goblins carry nothing but their ragtag weapons and shields and ill-fitting leather armor. Three of them are stone dead, but the last attacker, dropped by Tessa's spell, is still moving slightly. (Death saves: 10, 2, ...)
Examining the trail north, Quinn determines that about a dozen goblins have come and gone along the trail; he also sees signs of two human-sized bodies being hauled from the ambush site. Looking at the surrounding tracks, it appears that the goblins have using this place to stage ambushes for some time.
The horses are in good health and many of you recognize them as belonging to the wagon's owner (and the employer of some of you) Gundren Rockseeker, and his warrior escort Sildar Hallwinter. The horses’ saddlebags have been looted. Tessa tries to keep them calm and feeds them a snack.
Impressed by his sword swing but not so much by his pomp, Syzygy ignores Sir Roderick.
Standing up from his track-gazing beside Quinn, Syzygy announces, “Rockseeker has been good to me, and, if indeed he’s been dragged off then I have a new task at hand…” With wrathful look in his eyes he withdraws a dagger from its sheath and slowly steps toward the twitching goblin.

The little goblin's breathing becomes rapid and shallow, despite Quinn's best efforts. But it opens its eyes for a moment and whispers in Common, "King Grol told Klarg... the Spider was paying..."Then it begins to cough, as its eyes roll back. Death save: 10
DM - Quinn has adv. on Int checks to recall infoabout his favored enemies. Does Quinn know anything of King Grol, Klarg or The Spider sound? INT check = 11
One more question: how far are we from Phandalin?

First, Jurgen will cast Spare the Dying on the goblin. Next he will tie the goblin up. While doing that he will try to see if he remembers anything about King Grol , Klarg, or 'the Spider '
Tessa continues tending to the horses, preparing them for riding or guiding, whatever her companions can handle. After tying them off so they don't get spooked and run, she sits back in the wagon and tends to her wounds.
Sir Roderick leaned against the wagon slightly miffed that all his efforts at friendly conversation had been rebuffed....perhaps they were all intimidated by him and his reputation? That must be it!
Looking over at Tessa he gave a half smile, " Alright there? Little buggers, eh."
" Do you think they got anything out of that one? I'm a tad too squeamish for that sort of bizzo myself."
As Tessa cares for the horses, Jurgen magically stabilizes the goblin's condition. It is unconscious, but breathing easier now. Jurgen, like Quinn, knows that "King" is a common title for a top goblin boss ruling multiple lairs, and "Klarg" could well be a goblin name, but "the Spider" doesn't sound like a name a goblin would likely have, even as a nickname.
A half-day of travel still lies ahead with the oxen and wagon to get to Phandalin, with or without the horses. The goblin trail north beckons, but it is too narrow for the wagon. The weather is mild, especially in the shade of the trees, and there is plenty of forage, so you feel you could leave the animals here safely if you choose to explore the trail further, and there is plenty of room to easily steer the wagon off the road. (If you choose to follow the trail, please declare your marching order, as it will be single file through the scrubby thickets.)
Zyzygy returns the dagger to its scabbered tucked between the folds of his grey cloak. "How long before they slit the dwarf's throat? Rest here if we must but we should form a plan as we secure the cargo. Phandalin and back isn't a luxury we can afford." He eyes the goblin. "And do we have a hostage now?"
Syzygy steps off the road and begins preparing space to tie the horses.

The remaining goblin makes a break for it, racing into the woods down the trail Quinn had begun to notice.
But not before Tessa releases her beam of crackling energy upon it. (Make a ranged spell attack roll. It is no longer hiding/at disadvantage to hit.)
Tessa tries to blast the fleeing goblin before it can disappear into the woods.
Attack: 6 Damage: 6 force
Tessa drops the goblin before it can get far down the hidden path to the north. The last of the four ambushers has fallen. Combat is over.

“Good job. Everyone.
Just before they jumped us I saw their tracks leading off on that trail there to the northwest. Looked like they were dragging something.
Some of you wanna check the goblins?”
He looks at Syzygy. “Let’s see if we can uncover anymore clues.”

Jurgen joins Syzygy to question the twitching goblin.

Quinn walks over to the group dealing with the dying goblin. He nudges past them.
“Aye. This little bastard will get what’s owed. But let’s see if we can get some information outta him first.”
He moves to stabilize the goblin.
”Come ‘ere you nasty little thing.”

”whatdya do with Gundren??!! Where’d you take him?!”

The names don't sound familiar. He knows that "King" is a common title for a top goblin boss ruling multiple lairs.
You're nearing the spur off the Triboar Trail that will take you south to Phandalin, but you're still about half day's travel away.

Tessa nods at Roderick. "Indeed. My apologies, these battles which I do all the time of course, are quite exhausting."
She is struck by an idea and tries channeling energy into healing the arrow gouge in her shoulder.
