You are all discussing the options in front of you. Each group gathered different pieces of information as well. Hoid and Chadwick seem to be developing a bond. Trelik and Jadeth seem to be giving you space, as well as keeping your mugs full. Jadeth brings out a plate of cheeses and two loaves of bread as well. She drops them off with a small smile “I was thinking you may be wanting an afternoon refresher,” and walks back to the kitchen.
A man enters the common room. He looks to be a dockhand or sailor by his clothes. He is kind of skinny and has a narrow face. He looks about the room and makes eye contact with Trolkarl. At this he seems to hesitate, but gathers his courage and walks over to your table.
”I,….I think I saw y’ens at the Master’s office this morning. Asking about Cap’n Taggerty?” He looks around the table. “There was a big fight in Dogon’s Alley a few nights ago. The night he went missin’”
He sits down on the bench and leans in. “Name’s Scampus. I can show you where that is.”
Welcome, Scampus. I'm Trokarl and we are looking into the situation with captain Taggerty. I am sure his friends and family would be most appreciative of you doing what you can to help find him. I also understand there is a fifty gold piece reward for his rescue. It seems just that some share would belong to those who supported the rescue as well.
I, for one, would be very thankful for you showing us Dogon's Alley. Interesting that big fight happened the same night.
I call to Taurik "A mug for one more, please"
Before we go to Dogon's, why don't you first help yourself to some of this afternoon refresher and share what you know about this big fight. Who were the parties involved? Any notion about the cause?
Scampus grins to Taurik as he drops off another mug. Taurik puts it down and walks away. Scampus then helps himself to the food as well.
in between bites and gulps he looks up at Trolkarl’s last question. “You need to see yourself. We should go there soon, ‘fore it is sundown. I just saw a big commotion and left. Didn’t want trouble to come my way.”
Scampus downs his mug of ale and stuffs a heel of bread and hunk of cheese into his pockets. You can see that he is wearing most of a suit of leather armor under his cloak. There is a dagger at his waist. He does not have any large weapons. He stands and heads for the door. Turning, he says, "Follow me."
Scampus heads toward the shoreline and White Sails harbor, then turns north between the Throat and the dwarven keep Mirabar Shield. He is heading north on Fisher's street and comes to a cross alley. Pointing down the alley he says, "That is Dogon's Alley. I heard the fighting going on there. When I did, I headed back the way we came to get away from the fight. I did not see anyone clearly. There were strange voices though. Language I did not recognize. Sounded like someone giving orders. I heard a Luskan cursing at them as well. Could tell by the accent."
The alley looks like most alleys would in a city. There is litter piled up against the walls. Broken barrels and crates can be seen. Stretching across the alley are clotheslines on pulleys leading to upstairs windows of what must be private quarters above shops and mercantile buildings. Traffic here is light. Fisher's street seems to be a minor thoroughfare with mostly pedestrian traffic. An occasional horse or ox drawn cart trundles by. The alley is dirt with some dubious looking puddles along the edges. It rained a few days ago, the day before the big fight Scampus describes. Fisher's street has cobble stones and is crowned in the middle. You can see a grate to the sewer nearby to handle water runoff.
Scampus seems nervous here. He is looking about with quick, furtive looks. His nose wrinkles as well in what appears to be a nervous tic. The sun is low on the horizon. There is probably another hour or two of daylight left before sunset.
The group of you split up and search the alley. Scampus stays out along Fisher’s street, keeping a watch.
There are lots of prints in the mud of the alley. Hoid finds a boot print by a pile of refuse that is unusual compared to the other more common prints. Chadwick and Erbert also find similar prints. Searching through the refuse they also find a war dart of crude construction, but apparently effective. There is blood on the blade, looks human.
Kragen locates a collection of boot prints of someone standing mostly still it seems. Beside these are a set of different prints, unlike the unusual prints and the common street prints, also standing still.
Gneuman finds what appears to be fresh damage to a wall of a building. Trolkarl examines it and believes it to be caused by magic. Most likely it was force energy that did this. More than a single Magic Missile, perhaps Eldritch Blast.
Other blood spatter is seen on the refuse as well. Not human. You each examine all of the clues.
Being the slightly paranoid gamer I am, Chadwick will try to nonchalantly check if Scampus's boot prints match those in alley. He could be nervous since he saw a fight here, or he's trying to set us up.
After the totally smooth boot print check, Chadwick will use Divine sense and see if he picks up anything unusual.
Chadwick walks out to the street and nonchalantly examines Scampus’ footprints. They are different from those in the alley. He is wearing a soft shoe, not a boot. The whole process is uncomfortable and entertaining to observe. Scampus moves across the street, giving Chadwick a strange look.
Using his Divine Sense, Chadwick can discern that the area is not Hallowed, nor are there any celestials, fiends or undead present.
Trolkarl and Kragen search the area to the 'east' of Dogon's Alley and find no sign of the boot prints in question. Circling back, they do find that the tracks continue 'south' of the alley down a side alleyway.
Survival checks = 17, 19
(( White arrows on the map show the path of the boot tracks. ))
The tracks lead around the corner and back to Fisher’s Street. Across the street you see Scampus. He is standing beside one of the sewer grates. He seems even more edgy than before. He nods to the left, where you came from. “We need to go,” he hisses. “Meet me back at the tavern tonight.” He turns to walk down the street.
Erbert has periodically taken out his journal and scribbled down notes, making drawings even at certain times. If there is anything that will lure him in further, it is a mystery. The strings of it and tugging at the leads until he finds clarity - he can’t resist it. He observes the behavior of this Scampus person, his nose wrinkling up. “Something is not right here….” He tries to piece together, How much more does he know that he isn’t telling us…. Is he truthful?

Hoid
“Respect my personal space paladin. Your touch is unwelcome.”
Chadwick
"Apologies my friend no disrespect meant! In my neck of the marshes we are huggers"
Narrator: Monstordrink was not in fact a village of huggers, but the folk were friendly enough to put up with his overly eager displays of affection.

The names Chadwick LeRoy Jenkins, please you meet you Scampus (reaches out to shakes his hand).
Shall a few of us go and check out this alley? I'm more of a do'er than a thinker.

I'm ready to head out, Scampus. Does anyone else care to join?

Dogon Alley Map
Since it rained before the fight, can we see any tracks? Anything that doesn't look like the normal occupants of this town?

"Appears there was potential ambush as i have prints from Humanoid and non-humanoid laying in wait around this refuse."
Suggest to Trolkarl, "Lets continue to investigate further down Dogon's alley and see if we can find additional clues." Assume that direction is East?
(( Map updated ))
((Prints found by Kragen are both sets of boot prints made by humanoids, different styles.))

I recommend that we continue to track the prints south using extreme caution and keen senses to avoid an ambush.
"Not good, my friends. These are goblin prints. I would recognize them anywhere."
