You each wake in the morning from a nightmare like dream. Somehow you were in a locked room with a statue and the deep voice of someone who called themselves Xagyg set you to the task of finding your way out of the dungeon you were in. There were others there with you whom you have never seen before. Even so, you worked together as though you did know one another. You make your way down the stairs from the Inn to the attached public house, the Dancing Dolphin. Their breakfast sausage and eggs are hearty and filling with a small beer. Looking around, you cannot believe your eyes. The other four are there! All of the people from the dream are sitting and eating at different tables. You seem to see recognition in their eyes as each of you looks around the room.
Kragen grumbles and makes his way to the intrepid table. "Greetings travelers, my name is Kragen Gravelbeard. Each of you seem vaguely familiar, as if i meet you in a dream"? "What evil witchcraft is this?!"
Chadwick stars off in the distance slightly more slack-jawed than normal, before announcing he doesn't sense any any evil witch craft.
The local orphanage could always use more gold to care for the young ones. So let's take him up on his offer for more adventuring, assuming he isn't up anything nefarious of course.
We can ask around town and see if anyone knows this wizard. Let's head out after breakfast and ask around and meet back here for lunch.
I can start over at the church, our father is a wise old man and knows almost everyone in town.
Slowly, Hoid’s end of a communal table is filled by the five of you. Plates and mugs are brought by the serving woman. She gives your group an uneasy eye, lingering on the dwarves and shaven gnome. “Hopefully, yer business here is concluded with haste,” and walks off.
Chadwick’s outburst attracts the attention of the few others eating and talking. You see a man enter and go straight to the barkeep. They have a brief conversation and he leaves. If you had to guess, you would say he is frustrated on his way out. The barkeep briefly looks worried and then goes back to his duties.
But I will go from the table to the serving woman to try to make small talk to see if she knows anything about the guy .
Our group will leave promptly as soon as we finish the food. But you seem troubled. If there was any etiquette not shown to you, I apologize. I hope a couple of gold coins for gratitude of your service will help for whatever trouble we might have caused.
If she is receptive, I will try to make small talk and inquire about the man who entered and spoke to the barkeep. If she is busy or obviously not going to be persuaded, I will give her 2 gold and return to the table.
The serving woman eyes you suspiciously as you approach. When you mention the gold she bristles and cuts you off, "What kind of woman do you think I am, sir?! You come over here after consortin' with dwarves and who knows what...." The barkeep perks up when she gets fired up and quietly says to her, "Jadeth, why don't you go check on those pork shoulders smoking for tonight and see how they are coming along." She looks at him, scowls back at you and heads back to the kitchen.
The barkeep is a broad shouldered, middle-aged man a bit overweight with a large mustache. He walks over and puts both hands on the bar, leaning on them. "What can I help you with?"
I was looking to make right whatever troubles we might have caused Jadeth. She seemed a little edgy, and I figured we must have offended.
I also wanted to make sure everything was okay. I might have misunderstood, but it seemed like there was some tension. As Jadeth was reminding us not to linger, there was a man who spoke with you, and again... it seemed like there was some tension. Hope I am not overstepping. But wanted to be sure everything was good.
Same as earlier, if he is not looking to talk or seems annoyed, I won't try to continue to get him to share. But if he is open, I will try to listen and persuade him for details on the interaction.
(( Go ahead and send a skill check roll when you are actively doing something. If I want a different skill or save I can translate the roll.))
Persuasion = 14
The barkeep looks at you, unmoving. After what seems like an eternity his shoulders relax and he backs up from the bar a bit. “Name’s Taurik. Things are tense in town, stranger. Folks are going missing. That was the Harbormaster’s pilot, Dimmik. He’s looking for captain Lonis. His ship, Leopard, is overdue to leave. Lonis hasn’t been seen for three days. Not like him…” he gets a concerned look again. “Talk of other sailors missing as well.”
He glances over to your table. “Also, you and loud guy are welcome in town,” he lowers his voice a bit, “the others not as much.” He gives you a direct look with this. “Now, I’m not like that so much. Jadeth will be okay. But you may not find things so welcoming elsewhere.”
Thanks, Taurik. I am Trolkarl. While we are in town, I will help search for Lonis and the others. I will stop back in or see Dimmik if I have any news.
Also, appreciate that you are open to a stranger in letting me know about the bias the other might face. Will do my best to keep them out of trouble.
I head back to Hoid's table and share the news, suggesting we try to look into it while looking for Xaxag. Also, some of the townsfolk seem to have some opinions of dwarves and gnomes. I suggest we handle things as delicately as possible if they are rude, like the serving woman. But if there is any sort of proper injustice, I assure you I will stand by you and not back down.
The Dancing Dolphin: This tavern sits across the street from the fenced in pasture of The Throat. Breakfast is warmed sausages and fried eggs served with small beer. Lunches are small loaves of bread served with a hunk of cheese and either cold chicken or mutton. At night they serve a broader range of food: Baked chickens, Mutton stew, Vegetable stew, Bread bowls for the stews, cheeses, dried fruits when available and boiled eggs. The food is basic, but all is well-made and good. Ales and meads are what is served alongside the meals. Occasionally, they will have dwarven stouts or elven evermead for higher prices.
Perhaps Gary Gnu, Kragen, and I check out the various temples/religious hangouts?
Our first adventure may have been an odd mystical experience, but I feel you all are my companions now so I'll have your backs until my last breath.
Edit-Looking over the map I think the temple of red sails would be a good place to start. The winter palace strikes me a little too harsh for my liking.

I will beckon the well-known strangers to my table.
Trolkarl Ravenshield
I approach Hoid and introduce myself
Do you suppose the wizard that tested us will show up to offer that future work?
Hoid
Maybe? Hopefully? If not, we have a name and can seek out the wizard on our own.
If Chad can't find any of his normal pick me up drink he'll settle for the breakfast and beer.
He waves over to the group with a goofy smile "hey guys how are y'all doing?" That was some dream, am I right?"
"Greetings everyone. An interesting sleep for all I presume. Do you suppose that this wizard is here at this same establishment?"
Ever so subtle, Chadwick yells "Hey Xagyg, you around here somewhere buddy?!"
Kragen grumbles and makes his way to the intrepid table. "Greetings travelers, my name is Kragen Gravelbeard. Each of you seem vaguely familiar, as if i meet you in a dream"? "What evil witchcraft is this?!"

Someone want to tail the sus dude while I ask around the local religious types about pointy hate dude (stereotyping)
Trolkarl
I will leave the tailing to someone else.
