After your long voyage at sea, and your longer journey over land, the town of Withermore comes into view. It's a little past noon, and you are all travel weary. Despite this fact, Rowarin, immediately recognizes his hometown, though it seems to have expanded slightly over the past three years. This isn't surprising, it had always been a well off trading town.
At first glance, the town looks like...well any other profitable town. Most of the houses on this side of the neighborhood are on the larger side when compared to the residences of most working folk. However, upon walking under the "Welcome to Withermore" sign above the main street. It becomes apparent that something is wrong.
As the group makes its way into the village, the area gives off a feeling of emptiness. Even in the middle of the day, there seem to be far less people around then the number of buildings would suggest. Many of the townsfolk who see you either stare with half-glazed eyes or scurry indoors. However, a few look at the new comers with curiosity if not hope.
Out of the entire town, there are two buildings that stand out the most. The first being the Mayor's house, not because it is large, but rather because it has been built on a small hill in what likely used to be the middle of town. It's red tiled roof is easily seen over the brown roofs of the surrounding buildings. The second building is likely the largest building in town. Rawarin easily recognizes the StoneDog Inn and Tavern, as it is the same tavern from which he was recruited by that War Mage. Of course, there are other inns and taverns in Withermore, but StoneDog is the most popular. The more popular, the more information.
"Damn it..." The last person to get off board with the most uneasy feeling a living person can ever produce, Rixian deliberately spaces himself from the other five adventurers who coincidentally happened to bump into on the voyage. He was supposed to this alone. ALONE. Yet, for whatever reason, his stupid head told him to travel alongside them, with the assumption that he will be lead closer to the source of his uneasiness. Maybe go undercover, gather some recon about them and at least come to a reasonable solution (or try to; His leadership capabilities are top-notch but vice-versa for his logical thinking) before acting out on impulse. Yeah. That might be the best thing to do in the meanwhile. Not like he can do anything besides shift his Double-Bladed Glaive behind his back as he walks aimlessly behind the rest in tow.
The burden of emptiness emitted by the village at first sight did not seem to faze the paladin for even a split second. He's used to this whole outsider drama, having traversed into unfamiliar territory so many times without a trace of fear in his heart. Whatever this Withermore town has to offer though, it may also be his best chance at finding the source of his past tragedies that shaped him to be the most aggressive warrior his plane has ever known. He thinks he can sense it nearby; his orange, molten eyes flicker brightly like the morning sun whilst the dark red atom-shaped emblem that hangs from his neck plus the outlines of his fiery red armour glow with the sun's reflection. There's a pang of regret that hits him hard as he trots slowly across the uneven grounds; He told himself that he will never tell the shifters about his true goal, but at the same time, he also doesn't want to endanger their lives should the time come from him. The Fire Genasi paces uneasily, wondering what the others are thinking about this strange place since, unlike them, he cannot for the time being.

Leeta, the young halfing girl, is still walking somewhat shakily even though they've left the boat a short while ago. Holding the hand of a taller - but not that tall - water genasi, she mutters:
-... oh, gods.. oh, gods. Please, Mizu, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease, no more travel by sea. Ugh, I think I'm going to puke. AGAIN. How could you guys stand that constant sway?
She stops for a moment, crouches, and takes a minute to close her eyes, breath calmly and feel the earth beneath her feet. There, seeing that there wasn't any kind of movement, she seemed to regain his composture. Sweet heavens, what would Skydancer Jezza say if he saw her that way? Well, that was an easy answer: knowing him, he would probably toss her into a boat and not let her out for whatever time was necessary until she got over her sea sickness. Phew, good thing the drow wasn't around.
After that moment of rest, Leeta stood up looking better and turned to her water genasi companion:
- Let's not mention this to Jezza, okay? - and then, looking at the rest of companions, she added -Well then. Here we are. And this is rather empty. Things look worse than we had been told about, right? We should probably ask - and she looked to right and left - someone? Anybody? Hellooo?
She caught someone looking through the window of a single storey house and with a nimble and swift movement, the halfling run up to it. Leeta had to actually stand on tiptoes for the person on the other side of the window to actually be able to see the top of her head (and not much else).
- Hi! Hello there! We are new to town and woud like to ask ... - the question was swiftly ended when the window was slam shut - ... okay.
Leeta turned around and returned to the companions, shrugging. Not the greatest start.
The rush of memories, pride and home come flooding back to Rowarin. He gazes around at the folk who remain. So weird, the town looks eerie when there aren't many folk about, thought Rowarin. The StoneDog lies just ahead, with the mayor's house further up the hill.
Pointing to the mayors house and inn, Rowarin says "Hey, it might be quicker for us to get info from the mayor, who I think still lives up there. Or that tavern is the most popular choice around here, maybe could find something there too."
He looks amongst the faces of those who stop and stare, looking to see if there is a familiar face... does he recognize anyone?
OOC: Not sure on etiquette with Pbp, but do I wait to be told to roll for anything or do I just roll if I want to perform an action i.e. looking around using perception?
Kulogall, the 6 foot 2 inch tall Triton holding a spear more as a walking stick, looks around at the town, taking it all in for a moment. When Leeta speaks, he counters with“I find it unsettling to not be on the waves. The stillness of the ground, the lack of motion, the loss of the natural rhythms of the sea… how do you stand it? I can, mind you, but it seems most… unnatural.”
He stops and looks around, seeing windows slammed shut in their faces. “This place seems somehow… off … as well. Rowarin, do you remember it this way? This is not how you described it. I think I need a drink, I really want a tall glass of water, perhaps a jug or a barrel maybe. Or perhaps something stronger. I hope this trip will be worth it, perhaps there are clues here to what has happened.” And to where he might be, he leaves unsaid.
Mizu, the young water genasi, looks down at his halfling companion. Really, it had been his first time aboard a ship in... well as long as he can remember, but he still hadn't noticed the constant swaying motion. When Leeta asks him not to mention Jezza, he just nods. He isn't really sure why she wouldn't want to mention her mentor, but it's her choice so he'll respect that.
He watches quietly as she tries approaching some of the locals only to get the windows slammed in her face. Well, the people here don't seem super friendly do they? He can't really blame them though. Not with what he has heard. He glances around, flashes of a town he once new running through his mind. The emptiness, the dark streets. It brought back memories he'd rather not think about. Blinking, he lets out a long breath to clear his mind, then straightens the front of his blue haori and adjusts the strap that holds the scabbard of his dual scimitars on his back. Perhaps it seems odd for a fourteen-year-old to be walking around fully armed, but he ignores whatever curious glances come his way.
As they walk towards the StoneDog, he glances at each of his companions. He really hasn't spoken to them at all, not even when they had taken to walking after the long ride aboard the ship. Perhaps he should have inquired more about the town, after all, it seems Rowarin at least has been here before. Hmm... well he'll get what he needs eventually. That's what they are going to the tavern for right? Ugh, taverns are always so noisy. Not to mention... well, we'll see how things go.
The sea elf watches with amusement as the halfling struggles to get her body under control after the trip on the ship. She agrees wholeheartedly with Kulogall's sentiment but figures there is no point to add anything to that. Mina continues to watch in amusement as once the halfling has control of her faculties and they are in the empty town, she actually runs up to a house that was spying on them.
As Leeta returns to the group a disheartened, Mina smiles, "Hey, we can't win them all. Maybe we should try the Inn?"
The blue-skinned, almost scaly elf with wild long black hair, wears worn brown leathers and carries a longbow, spear and has a net tied around her pack. She looks over at Rowarin, "What do you think? I'm not sure barging in on the mayor is the best move? but I could be wrong."
As you walk through the town, you are met with several more people glancing your way before scurrying off to do this or that. However, there are also many who seem grateful for your presence, and even more who just stare at you, likely due to the exotic-ness of the group, if not just a bit confused why there are two kids with your group.
As you all try to decide what your next destination will be, you likely look around a bit. Yes, the town seems oddly, almost eerily empty, but there are a few stores and booths open along the main street mixed in with the many that appear vacant. Non of the folks selling their wares seem nearly as enthusiastic as you are used to, and many of them even seem on edge.
Everyone give me a perception check. DC 12
A young girl pokes her head out from between two buildings. She looks to be around 13-14 years old, has a face full of freckles, piercing green eyes, and a mass of unkempt curly red hair with two slightly pointed ears barely managing to point through the curls. Based on this, she looks to be a half-elf, half wood elf to be precise.
She watches you curiously, with a hint of suspicion in her eyes. She sniffs, and wipes her nose leaving a smudge of dirt on her already dusty face. As soon as you look her direction, she darts back between the buildings.
(We'll see what Gravy rolls before I say if he recognizes anyone.)
It takes the likes of that mysterious girl to finally snap out of Rixian's trance as he finally decides to scan the entire village. He missed the entire commotion of Leeta failing to get anyone's attention, not that it concerns him at the moment, but then he hears 'his enemy' saying that they should all head to see the mayor. But... to barge inn without any act of respect? Maybe not... He shakes his head, whilst he whispers in Japanese that he should perhaps keep up the façade for as log as he can for now. That aside... Rixi does try to ask the girl something with a deep, oriental accent, but before he can even utter a single word, she vanishes. Like a Dark Elf in the night.
As soon as the girls darts behind, the nineteen year old paladin sighs before he points hesitantly towards where she darted behind. "Over there."
