Mark, when you return to the Temple, you see that the fire you started doesn't seem to have caused much damage. However, after viewing it for a while, you do notice that there is no one coming and going. The hive of activity that it was before is now suspiciously dead quiet.
The others have gone back to your apartment, will you follow them?
As you walk around looking for someone who looks cultish, a person walks up to you. A female orc, the same one who's house you came through to get to the temple last night. She beams her tusks when she sees you, "I don't know what you did last night. But whatever it was it got those bastards to leave. When I woke up this morning, I saw the whole lot of them leaving in a big line. Their leader, that woman Ash, was at the front of the line, and she did not look happy." She puts her hand on your shoulder, "Well done friend, you can call on Rhodvil whenever you want. That's me by the way, Rhodvil, what's your name partner?"
Mark is surprised to see a potential friend here, "Nice to officially meet you Rhodvil, my name is Mark. Have you by chance seen an elven Shapechanger with the lot that left this morning? His name is Zaerun?"
Rhodvil nods, "Yes, he was walking up front with their leader Ash. They seemed like they were arguing actually, but I couldn't make out what they were saying." She looks over her shoulder, "Anyway, i've got a few things I need to take care of today." She starts walking away but thinks to herself and turns back, "Would you be able to let me know how to contact you, in case I need to talk in the future?"
The cat looks at Kit deep in the eyes for a long time as Kit rolls around and mouths out the syllables in more and more over the top ways. Eventually the cat lets out a quiet "Meow", slurps up the mayonnaise, and walks away.

She starts walking away but thinks to herself and turns back, "Would you be able to let me know how to contact you, in case I need to talk in the future?"
"That is truly helpful, by chance do you know what direction they were heading? As for contacting me, just head to any bank and say that you have a note for Mark and I will get it and come down here to chat."
Rhodvil shrugs, “I followed them for a bit, but that Zaerun guy started sniffing around so I had to back off.” She claps her hand on her shoulder. “Good luck with whatever your mission is, friend Mark. And may Vvaraak guide you.” She turns to walk away.
Mark will want to see if there is any evidence of where they went, then he will head back to his apartment hoping to have as much information possible.
The trail is very cold. You head back to the apartment and meet up with the others, falling incredibly tires into bed. You all take a Long Rest and wake up on the day of the ball. You've got your clothes, you know your mission (To steal the magic item used to read ancient runes in the Orien basement).
Is there anything else you all want to do or go over before the party?
"Good idea," Elero offers. "What do we know so far? What do we know about this item, and where it is? Is there any way we could walk through the place during the day, while ball prep is going on? Maybe even disguise ourselves as workers or caterers and get in there this morning or this afternoon?"
Absolutely you could try doing that. You know that while the ball prep is happening the Oriens will conduct a ritual by which they will gift the key to their vault to another Dragonmarked person attending the ball. This is an age old ritual that the Dragonmarked houses perform as a way of showing trust to one another. The idea being that if someone other than the Orien's have the key, then the other Dragonmarked Houses can feel safe storing their own personal valuables in the vault. You could try to spy on that meeting, although Erix would know that it is done in extreme secrecy and would require a talented sneak to do the job.
Other than that you will also need to figure out where the vault is. You may also try to work out what the Orien's password is to the vault. Vilroy's plan was for you to acquire all this knowledge at the ball itself, giving you access to the manor without sneaking in, but you could try and do the whole job before the ball if you want to try sneaking into the manor.
Also, Vilroy would have told you that she beleives the item Daask wanted is called a Helm of Comprehension. It functions similarly to a Helm of Comprehending Languages but instead of just regular languages, can allow you to translate ancient and forgotten languages as well. Like the ones on the magical runes that you all have stowed away somewhere.
((As the ritual is done during the prep, does that mean the person appointed will leave and get back again later? Than maybe just looking for any dragonmarked royaly leaving during the day might give a good enough clue already.))

"With that knowledge, I believe it is smart to go in early through stealth and then come to the party that night without the item to absolve ourselves from the theft. I believe the best approach is to have some sort of decoy to replace and if everything goes to plan Orion will not even know that anything is missing. I would also like to add that if there is something else of value I may want to take it. What skills or items will help us accomplish this plan?" Mark will pet his cat as he is talking trying his best not to look like a cheesy villain.
"Well," Elero pipes up, "I can disguise my appearance to fool an ordinary visual inspection, in case that gains us entry to somewhere, and Using the Right Tools for the Job, I may be able to fashion a facsimile of the helmet, especially if I can find a painting or sketch of it beforehand, so our theft will go unnoticed as long as possible."
"Also," Elero waves his newly-attuned-to All-Purpose Tool, "I can use this to learn any cantrip for a day, so if someone can think of one that'll help our plans, let me know, and I'll learn it."

Mark will want to ask someone around what happened to the movement of the temple, he will ask under the guise of wanting to join the cult.

Kit, still a little drunk, pops the cork on his alchemy jug and pours out some mayo to share with Mark’s cat.
He tries to teach mark’s cat to say “I love you” [I think I saw I cat do this on YouTube once]

[apologies for not being with main party, big work month and my brain can’t take much in at the moment]
