OOC: Sorry for the slight delay, I had some schoolwork I needed to catch up on. wow, I hate english so dang much.
After stocking up on supplies, you all headed out to the city's gates. A small crowd had gathered to send you off, presenting you with a run-down cart and a flea-bitten mule. Demetrius was waiting for you at the gate.
“All ready? Let us be off” he jovially intoned in his queen’s english accent. As you ride through the crowd, you look down on their haggard faces, and yet, humanity's last spark of hope is plainly flickering in their features. You ride out of the gate, and stare at the massive dark forest ahead, and far away, above the treetops, the top of a wizards tower is visible in the distance. After some time, Demetrius turns around “so, what made the Council choose you lot?" He asks. (passive history: 12. Randall and Beshlog know that... if anyone else wants to make the check they can.
The council of the reclaimed city of Froshdin consists of representatives of the 7 progenitor races:
1. Rune Crafting Dwarves, who live in the caves below the earth. They are constantly mining for gems and wealth.
2. Nature loving Firbolgs, who live in the forests to the west. They are untrustful of outsiders, as some invaders (Cough, Humans, Cough) have tried to take over before.
3. Power Hungry Humans, who live in the plains (Halflings are just smaller humans. a halfling is to a human as a kobold is to a dragonborn or lizardfolk). They are seeking to expand their borders
4. god-worshipping Naufauns (animal people like satyrs, aarakocra, leonin, kenku, tortles, etc), who live in the coasts and deserts of the south. They are constantly on the hunt, as food sources are dwindling because of blights in the ocean.
5. Arcane Weaving Elves, who live in flying cities. They live in a paradise where magic does everything for them.
6. Clockwork Infused Gnomes, who live in a region-sized city to the east (think Ravnica from Magic: the gathering). because of their mechanical nature (they liek to turn themselves into cyborgs) they long to be accepted by others and to be loved.
7. Elemental Wielding Goliaths, who live high in the mountains of the north. They are the once rulers of a fallen empire.
1. Alternate flanking: as a BA, one character can choose to distract a creature within their reach. If any foes of the creature are on opposite sides of its space, then those foes have advantage on attack rolls against the creature. so flanking but with a cost, besides, its a use for a bonus action!
2. Initiative: To speed up combat, I will impose the following rule: whoever starts the combat is automatically treated as having rolled a nat 20 on initiative.
3. Calling actions: if you call actions, then you don't get to take a turn, but if the trigger happens, you take a full turn right after the trigger happens
4. Damaging the terrain: I wont provide hard and fast rules, but if you think something could apply just ask. (since Temmie is a tempest cleric, I know they're itching to get in a body of water and zap some fools. lol)
5. Finally, If you think something would be cool, try it. do that epic swashbuckling maneuver or final sacrificial strike against the BBEG fueled by divine power that erupts in radiance (ok, that one is a little extreme for level 5, but still). just role whatever check YOU think is applicable and if you succeed, then I will give you some cool bonuses or something (maybe explosions. all dnd players love explosions right? i know i do)

Hi, I'm Raccoon_Master,The Rocket Raccoon/Trashcan Tactician (as appointed by Drummer). Pronouns They/Them/Theirs.
My Characters: Brorminthe Crusher; Discoverythe Keeper; Theathe Scoundrel; Jorvirthe Weaver; Threlan,the Speaker; Zolyathe Inspired; Penley the Devourer;
(History check 9 rolled on sheet. Passive History???)
The short haired redhead says "Eh, I figured it was cause I was a bigger bit-, uh, bit of sunshine, than the monsters. Not sure if they were sending me to fight or getting me out of their hair. I'm Ember. Ember LaRouge."
(another campaign does "bold for quotes) if we want to do that)
(History check rolled on sheet: 6 so nothing known)
The tall, blueish firbolg replies, in a deep voice."The stars alone know why I was chosen. Well, and those who chose me of course. I would assume that one of the nobles I saved from monsters has contacts on the council and put my name forward. I am Artan, pleased to meet you."
He pulls a little crystal out of his pocket and starts fiddling with it. Every so often it catches the light and a map of the stars can be seen projected out of it.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(History: 11)
With her hands behind her back and a look of slight unrest on her face, Emilia responds. "All I know is that I was chosen due to my profession. Such monsters like the ones that scourge the land require a priest's blessing, no?" She chuckles. "I am Emilia, good men." She offers a small, hospitable bow.
Beshlog studies the others for a few moments before speaking.
"The name is Beshlog Stonebreaker," he says simply. "I was chosen because I'm good at hitting things... but I'm also a wizard, so I can fill a couple different rolls depending on what we need."
I meant because Beshlog and Randall had high enough history bonuses, they automatically knew the info in the spoiler. like passive perception helping you automatically spot stuff. but
"hitting things. yet you are a wizard? most peculiar. where would such a strapping fellow like you learn spellcraft?" Demetrius inquires "I am comforted by the presence of a priest among our number. Gods know, we sure could use the help."

My Characters: Brorminthe Crusher; Discoverythe Keeper; Theathe Scoundrel; Jorvirthe Weaver; Threlan,the Speaker; Zolyathe Inspired; Penley the Devourer;
The woman lets out a small chuckle, her tired, slightly agitated look turning into a drowsy smile. "Why, thank you. I christen you, and the rest of this... merry lot in the name of the Father." She clasps her hands together as if in prayer, before turning to face the woods in the distance. "May I ask what lies in the wood ahead?"
"Oh, the town of Rorc for which we are bound." the cart rolls into the clearing, revealing the top of the wizards tower once again. "You see that tower? that's the tower of Veurlis Theodimir Crofdin. Nice old fellow, bit quirky if you ask me. Excellent mage and a fantastic Bladesinger. His experiments have been instrumental in the war effort. bit of an outcast among his kind though, for teaching more than elves how to Bladesing."
Emilia raises her eyebrow a little bit, but listens intently. "So, an old coot lives up in the tower... hm. Not unexpected." She remarks with a small laugh, turning her head to face Beshlog. "And he is your master, if I heard these gentlemen correctly?"
Ember sits and observes, repeating everyone's name and waving politely in greeting as they introduce themselves.
"Artan" (wave),
"Emilia" (wave). "We're well represented for divine power then." She observes whether Emilia is wearing makeup but doesn't comment on it. Ember is wearing makeup including a flame red lipstick.
"Beshlog" (wave). "And arcane power."
"I inherited my Grandmother's gift of Divine Sorcery. Healing and blasting".
Artan waves back at Ember."Mine is the power of nature and the stars. I can provide a bit of whatever we need. I can provide healing or I can attack. I am not good up close but if absolutely needed to, I can change my form into one that can withstand attacks better. I can also impart the stars guidance onto others too"
Emilia turns her head, offering a small head nod as greeting. "Ah, so we are. May your blessings be many." She smiles. She doesn't appear to be wearing any makeup, but she does have some fairly pronounced bags under her eyes. It could be mistaken for eyeshadow from a quick glance. "Aye, combat. Damned if we have to face it, but I can provide some things. Divine thunder and lighting from my Father who art in heaven... and of course what one would expect from a priest. Cleanliness and health, for whichever poor schmuck needs it."
Artan will look at you with complete sincerity. "I am sorry for your loss. But it is good that even from the afterlife, your father can still protect you. Despite our magic having different sources, it does sound like we might be able to create similar outcomes. I look forward to saving the world with you."
Emilia raises her eyebrow ever so slightly, but then realizes what he was saying. "Oh! No, no, no, not my birth father. I haven't an idea where we went off to after all of these years. Likely down south. I am talking about my Father. My god. He, and my old friend from yonder, helped grant me my power. My devotion to my god, and influence from my friend. My days, it's been so long since I've seen him...
But alas, good man, I hope the same." Emilia reassures. She reaches into her bag, taking out a small vial of Holy water and dabbing it onto her finger. "Your forehead, if I may?"
Ember looks where Demetrius is looking, and if she doesn't see something she'll start looking left-right, up-down from there. She points her cane as if it were a crossbow held at waist height.

A small creature bursts out of the woods. frantically running towards the cart. it's strange, almost like a combination of a rabbit and a squirrel. it chitters in fear, as a slaveirng beast runs put behind it. while the small creature was strange, this one is downright terrifying. it's pockmarked flesh strechtes over an emaciated frame. its long, forked tongue flicks in and out of its mouth, licking its lips in hunger. the most unsettling thin about it, though, is the malevolent red hate burning in its eyes, more man than beast.
Ok, I want to try something: instead of fighting this beast (it looks like it wants to kill everything) I want you guys to each roll me a check with a bonus equal to your proficiency bonus + one ability score of your choice that you would use in a combat scenario. Then write a description of one important thing you did in the fight. This check represents how well you did during the combat overall. I'll take the average roll and use it to see how banged up you are at the end. probably not much, its only one Shadow Beast. More concerning is they usually hunt in packs. This will not be every fight, only for the ones that don't really add much, and it keeps us from getting bogged down in waiting for other people to take their turn and all the other stuff that comes with combat. Feel free to "spend" resources in this fight, I don't intend to tax you with a bunch of fights. Not yet, anyway. this opening time is for roleplay and learning to work together.
A NOTE: while I did say you don't have to post every day, I would like you to at least check the thread once a day. that way if you're engaging in a RP convo with someone, you know if they can reply and make time to reply.
