Utar knows what he has to do but can't help pausing for a moment of reflection. This brief hesitation gives Neya enough time to finish her analysis and prepare to carefully extrude the bone pin out of Rerk's chest. On the count of three, she removes the piercing weapon and let's Utar's magic wash over the fallen villager. The half-orc soothes Rerk with both words and healing, his spell closing many wounds around his body, including the one left behind by Neya's little field surgery. Rerk's breathing stabilizes, but he remains unconscious for now.
It is then that Doozey returns, calming those still looking over their shoulders for the culprit. Just as soon as the halfling hunter finishes asking the general populace of Kabel's Hill to go back to their homes, Rerk regains consciousness abruptly. He remains propped against Utar but lets out a blood-curdling scream. He yells uncontrollably in pain and terror, and one of the black stones replacing his eye falls to the ground. The shock is simply too much for Rerk to bear. He does nothing but scream for the next several minutes before finally passing out again. He will live, Neya can tell, but he lapses into a comatose state with no sign of an immediate or speedy recovery.
The pieces of paper remain stuck to the removed pin, now on Neya's hand. The monk warrior also feels the tingling of magic on her fingers; more specifically, the ones holding the pin.
In the wake of the screams, Doozey grimaced and Biscuit immediately laid his front half down to try and cover his ears to little avail. But as the screaming went on and on, the stoutling's look of pained sympathy began to gradually evolve into one of annoyance, and then borderline anger as he'd begun flexing his fingers at his side. Fortunately, nothing more comes of the burgeoning fingers before either blessed quiet or Utar's call breaks him out of the somewhat murderous state of mind. Though Doozey would go on to look somewhat confused at himself, before with little more than a grunt, he'd trudge his way back inside the bucket, plop back into his seat, and just stare at the remains of his dinner.

Doozey does his best to contain some burgeoning anger, but the effort is noticed by a few of the villagers closest to him. As the halfling ranger reenters the tavern, he crosses path with Grinna and Alma, who are making their way outside. The only other person inside the tavern now is Hupe, who is looking at the happenings outside through a window.
The villagers exchange looks for a few seconds in response to Utar's request. They part as Grinna steps forward, still consoling poor Alma. "We'll clear a room in the back of the Bucket for him. He has a hut of his own in town but lives alone. We'll keep him close for now while he recovers."
Neya answers the question in many a silent mind around her by reaching for the pieces of paper. There are six of them and they all say the same thing: "Kabel’s Hill honors the long-standing truce between the people of Phlan and the people of the Quivering Forest. We seek only to retrieve a lost friend who does not fully understand what his trespasses signify."
Even if Neya doesn't read the message out loud, the most perceptive of the villagers surrounding her can tell what they are. One of them explains to the many others: "These are the letters that each member of the rescue party was given before entering the forest!"
In the meantime, Denae picks up the black stone that fell off one of Rerk's eyes and takes a closer look. She describes it for all to hear: "It is carved to resemble a large, lidless eye. The same goes for the stone still on Rerk's face." She looks at the villagers, intuiting they might know more, and it seems she is right. Grinna speaks on behalf of her folk once more: "The personalsigil of Jeny Greenteeth; a woods-crone that purportedly lives nearby, within the Quivering Forest."A voice yells from the crowd: "She eats children!" Another adds: "She makes crops die!" Denae sighs audibly and yells in the tavern's direction: "Come back out Mr. Badger. You might want to hear this."

"I can hear ya'll just fine from in here without ya shouting!"Doozey calls back in a mildly annoyed tone before rubbing at sensitive ears. "If there's one thing I'll never get used to...."He mutters darkly under breath before going on to mentally cursed the "blessing" that was his heightened senses. His thoughts after that eventually drifted back to the name mentioned -- the one called Jeny Greenteeth -- before gears in his head began to turn.
Was she well known enough to be of note to the order? Could she have intercepted the search, or merely played the convenient scapegoat for some darker force at play? And if she had been involved, why would the elves suffer a hag's presence? An added deterrent versus outside interference, perhaps?
Doozey shook his head and instead closed his eyes, breathe deep the still tantalizing scents of the array, momentarily... found himself distracted by said aromas, BUT then pushed past it to try and recall what he could of the entity.
Meanwhile, with the wailing finally at an end for the moment, Biscuit uncovers his head to look on at interest as the villagers began spouting their own various accounts.

Neya shudders a bit due to the memories of the coven that preyed on a nearby fishing village. But, is somewhat relieved that they aren't too late to help the folk of Kabel's Hill.
As he sets Rerk down on a bed, Utar is hit with the grim realisation that if all the notes were returned with Rerk, what has happened to the other 5 men who entered the forest two tendays ago? A sudden chill runs down Utar's spine although The Leaky Bucket is still as warm and inviting a place as it was the first time he entered it.
"Of course," Grinna says, still supporting Alma. She then turns to face the window her husband is occupying and yells: "HUPE! Show the gentleman here to one of the guest rooms. Rerk is staying with us for some time, free of charge!" From within the tavern, Hupe springs into action and leads Utar and Rerk to an available room in the back of the Bucket. In the process, he drops the copy of the letter he had picked up when CRAP last asked for it. It reads the same as the six other notes found on Rerk's chest.
Neya's training in the arcane pays off. She sees the stabbing trinket for what it really is: a simple artifact enchanted with not-so-simple divination magic. Ascertaining what exact magics may be at play here would require some magical trick of her own, or perhaps a more in depth analysis over a longer period of time (similar to casting identify or studying a magical item over a short/long rest.)
Doozey recognizes the newest name uttered by the crowd, as Jenny Greenteeth is indeed noted in his order's records. Jeny Greenteeth was one of the fey who entered into the original pact with Phlan over 100 years ago, back when the Zhentarim were in charge of the city. The order also has some details on the accord itself, which Doozey now remembers to be a mutual protection agreement of sorts. In exchange for forbidding travel and logging in the forest, the dark fey pledged to protect Phlan. This agreement proved to be Phlan's salvation more than a few times, but not every time the city's safety has been threatened. Since then, the pact has established a tenuous peace between the city and the forest, and some of the more powerful and well-informed citizens of Phlan have been known to make requests of the dark fey of the Quivering Forrest under this agreement.
Biscuit follows the procession into the Bucket, but only so far as the main door. At which point, he once more wags himself dry as much as he could, before posting up there, seeming intent on keeping any locals from reentering the Bucket for the evening. Rather, if any approach or blatantly ask for him to move he shakes his head, then gestures with his head, indicating for those insightful enough to return home as Doozey had suggested before.
Meanwhile, Doozey could be found still at the dinner table, muttering every now and then in-between spoonfulls of the very food he'd been wary about eating earlier. But when appraoched with a question, Doozey scrunches up his face in visible discomfort, before then sighing in defeat. "My order has, uhm, heard of this Ms. Greenteeth. Less of her more, eh...uhm... expected deeds as ya might expect for any dark fey. Or at least, none that I could recall in the moment. But, she is one of the Big names that joined in on the pact between Phlan and the fey of the Quivering Forest. So, that aughta say something about her abilities, if not her, ehhh... connections, I guess? Or notoriety?"He conveys with a shrug thrown out towards the end.
"Either way, I'm confident if it came to it, we can still manage to deal with her one way or another, though it wouldn't be a matter to take lightly. Better instead we avoid her direct attention if we can, or failing that, leverage as best we can the feylord's request for a meeting with us." He frowns and bows his head. "Though, odds are if she got a hold of one of the search members, she may have more. And I can't imagine their fate being any kinder than the one sent to us, er, the village as a message. Making the retrieval of any survivors, uhm... complicated, to say the least."

After leaving Rerk in the Brightbells' care, Utar returns to the tavern's common room, now populated exclusively be CRAP as Biscuit prevents any curious villagers from returning to the The Leaky Bucket. Finally getting the message, and not wanting to get even more wet outside, the villagers slowly return to their homes for the evening. Even Alma gathers the courage to depart, her mother now brought to her so they can go back to their home.
Utar returns to a small episode of miscommunication between Doozey and Neya. The halfling and the human seem to agree that they aren't venturing into the forest at night, though there was some doubt concerning that agreement just a second ago.
After Doozey shares a bit of his knowledge regarding Jenny Greenteeth, Denae shares her own opinion on planning next steps: "Recall that we came to Kabel's Hill to gather knowledge on the Quivering Forest and their dark fey. I won't turn my back on the villagers' plea for help, but we have to come to terms with the fact that they have been missing for quite some time now. Whatever is to happen to them has most likely already happened. Come morning, I suggest we continue gathering intelligence before heading into the evil woods, be it to find this Greenhall place or go searching for Jenny Greenteeth and the missing villagers. I still think paying this Serelis fellow a visit might be worth our time, and Utar mentioned wanting to check the dead cattle for clues. There is also Halvin's barn, which surely must be one of our stops if we plan to go looking for him. Finally, this town's popular spots may also have something to offer, be it supplies at the general goods store and the local smithy, or whatever clues might be available by the granaries, stables, or river docks."
Her planning spiel delivered, she then asks: "Shall we ask the Brightbells for lodgings for the night? It has been a long day of traveling and consoling."
Running over the list of things he had identifed to get done the following day, Utar couldn't recall anything he disagreed with or wanted to add to Danae's list.
"Sounds good to me. Despite being inside, do we want to set watches all the same?"
"I think we should. We don't know how the other fey in the forest are going to act. But, I believe that it's almost guaranteed that Greenteeth has informed others of the broken accord."
"Eh, I still say that bridge has been long since crossed even before then, but I digress. I'd say it best to play it safe with watches, or at the very least making sure we most of us can bunk up with each other to watch the others back."Doozey looks about the room warily before leaning in and whispering to the party. "But I'll leave the actual arranging slahs negotiating of rooms to you lot... and Utar. If'n ya don't mind reaching out to Seranolla tonight, and see if she can give her, uh.. patron a heads up. Might trim the proverbial fat on the amount of free time we have to do any investigating should they decide to send a guide, but could just as well help us in the long run in avoiding needless trouble once we start venturing the forest proper."He sharply holds up a spoon and waggles it at Utar. "And before ya ask on the specific message, I'll leave the choice of words to ya.
