You were told that Madame Freona’s Tea Kettle was the place where adventurers could find work and avoid the hassle associated with other places in Phlan. So far, that has been true. Madame Freona, a stout and officious halfling who runs the establishment with her five daughters, has proven an excellent hostess.
The crowd at the Tea Kettle is sparse for the Highsun meal. The bar is empty, and apart from the table some of you are sitting in, there are only two others being used. One is being served by Reece, the other by Briez, two of Madame Freona's own daughters. They recognize a few of the faces at your table and greet you with a smile every now and then. They are not too busy, but they seem to be respecting each others' "turf,"' unfortunately for you.
The youngest of Madame Freona’s daughters, Grelinda, is clearing away your table setting after a pleasant meal consisting of family-style servings of stewed pork, dried parsnips, bitter cheese, and glazed onions. Grelinda’s short hair is tinted an odd shade of coppery green, and she is as moody as ever. Usually short on words, she treats the flatware roughly as she stacks it on a tray. “Stupid boring work,” she mutters under her breath.
(OOC: Take this opportunity to describe your character's appearance, what they are doing or saying at the moment, or what other characters would see. Not everyone needs to be at the table finishing a meal, as suggested above, but some of you should).
Enjoying his fourth drink of the morning is Drazzim Beerbelcher, a dwarf at a modest height of about 4'6''. He has some youthful looks to his face, though his hair is a shock white as streaks of ale stain lines down the front. Beside him is his adventuring pack, and leaning against the wall beside him is his trusty glaive, while his other handy weapon, his greataxe is resting on the seat next to him.
Asley Barestock, a Copper Dragonborn Sorceror, drinks a cup of wine with his left hand while twirling his staff with his right. He’s cocky and slightly bored. He eyes Grelinda and whispers “always one angry child, am I right?”
Utar is drinking with Drazzim, enjoying some chamomile tea rather than morning ales. He laughs heartily though and is clearly at ease in the familiar surroundings of The Kettle. He is broad shouldered and well built, his hand never straying too far from the handle of his warhammer propped against the edge of the table.
Utar's Orcish heritage is plain to see. His skin is tinged green and he sports prominent tusks jutting from his lower jaw. He wears a tabbard showing the symbol of Torm over chainmail which produces a soft clinking sound as he moves.
Cato Vandebar pushes his chair away from the table as he contentedly pats his considerable belly. The buttons on his worn green velvet vest are noticeably strained. "A lovely meal, Reece. My complements to your dear mother." Cato smiles at the girl before adjusting his spectacles and straitening his bow tie. Finally he reaches for his satchel from which he pulls a case, some paper, and a quill. He opens the case, which contains a variety of tiny creatures pinned against a black liner. He examines his samples closely and begins to make notes on his paper.

Asley gets up from his table and walks over to Cato. Leaning down from his considerable height of 6'5" he tries to sneak a peek at what Cato is working on here. "Well this looks rather fascinating. What are we up to over here, good sir?"
Graxx finishes his ale and slams down his mug on the table. "Ah! I reckon I am starting to get used to this sleeping under a roof thing!" Graxx is a muscular human at around 6'3" with his black hair tied back in a pony tail. He wears no armor but has his greataxe by his side.
He looks up to Asley and says, "Ol' Cato is always studying! We could have just finished a good killing and the first thing Cato does is start picking up the chunks left over. I just don't get it!"
The young barmaid turns to Cato and corrects him "It's Grelinda, you blind oaf. Mother wants all of us to contribute so I'm stuck with the large table today. Guess I'll bring another round of drinks so y'all leave me alone."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Asley turns to Grelinda. “Our apologies, ma’am. Please let me make it up to you. Let me take care of a bit of your work so you’re free to sit with us and have an ale.” Asley casts Mage Hand and uses it to clear up some dishes while pulling out a chair at their table for Grelinda.
Grelinda sighs in relief “Well, if you want to do some work for me, I won’t mind. I can take a break, y’know... but I ain’t sitting down for an ale. If Mother sees that, I’ll get a scolding, and my sisters will be sure to tell her too.” She seems more amiable after saying those words, which by all means, is the most any of you have ever seen Grelinda speak. As she heads back to the kitchen to get your next round of drinks —ale, wine, and the house’s specialty, chamomile tea— it even looks like she has a bit of a pep on her step, probably on account of not needing to balance dirty dishes on her trip back.
Asley’s Mage Hand completes the task slowly, but steadily. It can be a bit tricky to collect and balance dirty dishes with only one floating hand.
(OOC: At this time, I’ll say that Asley approached the table where Cato, Graxx, Utar, and Drazzim were sitting. Darrius and Rag have not yet joined the table. This is just for flavor while we wait for our two other characters to introduce themselves, but could be edited if need be).
Perhaps the muffled sounds of temporary goodbyes can be heard again, outside of the tavern before Darrius comes walking in alone. Darrius is a dark skinned, mid-aged, man. He is bald with a full, beginning to gray, goatee. He by no means has a lithe body style, he's got a fair amount of fat, but he's also very muscular, standing easily over 6' tall. He wears natural brown leathers, two scimitars, one on each side of his belt. The left side of his pack holds his quiver which lays at a 45ish degree angle towards him making drawing arrows after releasing easier and he has a longbow mounted on his pack currently. When entering and noticing most of the group that he was with earlier "Ah boys! You mind if I sit?" As he's walking up he looks for one of the halfling ladies "Can we get a round for my friends here?"
"Come now, Grelinda." Drazzim says putting his empty tankard down. "Perhaps ye can sit here for a spell an' you'll be 'entertainin' the guests, rather than sharing a drink. A tavern's only as good as its company and stocks of drink, so bein' good company's part of it all."
Already walking away, Grelinda looks over her shoulder and says “Perhaps on my way back.” For a faint moment, Asley and Drazzim both swear you saw the beginnings of a smile follow those words. However, by the time she looks over her other shoulder aiming her gaze at Darrius, her teeth are not showing “Already on my way to get refreshments. Sit and I’ll get you some white morning ale as well.”
As Asley comes over to the table, Utar half stands and stretches over, pushing out a chair. "Sit, whatever Cato is working on, it's not the sort of thing that gets explained quickly," Utar gives Cato a quick nod a wink, continuing "Nor should it be."
Seeing Darrius enter The Kettle, Utar raises a hand in greeting as he comes over to their table, "Blessings of Torm on you Darrius, that sister of yours not around?" As he says this Utar is sure to give a sidelong glance towards Graxx.
Cato heard the comments a questions directed at him, but being deep in concentration, has been unable to answer for a while. Finally, finishing his writing, he looks up and smiles at Utar, Drazzim, and Asley.
"No, indeed not. But I would be happy to show you." Cato re-orients the case be be facing anyone who is interested. "I have collected this case of curious creatures from the woods surrounding Phlan. Most, as you see, are mundane insects. But these two," he directs their attention to two odd-looking specimens, "seem to have a less-bestial and more magical manner. As you can see, I have recently and eagerly engaged in the endeavor to elucidate their enchanting essence."

Graxx comes to attention in his chair at the mention of Darrius's sister. He sits up straight and wipes the ale from his mouth. Graxx moves his head around to try to peek behind Darrius to see if she is indeed behind him. When Graxx does not see her he still remains still waiting in high anticipation to hear from Darrius.
With a welcoming smile and tone of voice Darrius spits out "She is not Utar, she's all business and no fun, plus we have to keep her away from Graxx, now don't we?" Darrius sits at the table beginning any idle chatter with the guys.
Graxx chest deflates at the confirmation that Darrius's sister will not be joining as the Barbarian is not the best at concealing his emotions. Graxx will turn to the Dragonborn(Asley) who he has seen around the Inn. "Dragonborn, I have shed blood with those at this table except for you. I am Graxx. I saw your dish trick. Are you one of them wizards?"
A smile curls upward at the corner of Asley’s mouth. “Something like that.“He gives a light bow of his head in greeting. “I am Asley. I am new around here and was hoping to find work. I am afraid that I am not all that useful with a great axe in my hands, but I have been known to be rather deadly from a distance. If ever your group is looking for a little extra firepower, I would be happy to join you, Graxx.” He turns to Cato. “And I find all of that rather fascinating.“
Graxx eyes Asley then smiles, "I am no chieftain." Graxx then frowns for a slight moment as he recognizes his own words, then quickly smiles again and continues, "but if you are good at killin then I'm sure we could use you." Graxx then looks around the Tea Kettle then back to Asley. "What I like most about this Tea joint is you don't even have to look for work. It comes to you when it is ready."
