Utar rolls his eyes at Doozey's joke and leaves it there. Picking up on Danae's suggestion, he completes CRAP's business with Grinna.
"One room for Danae and Neya and the other for Doozey, Biscuit and me, then. We'll pay for two nights."
Utar sets out 20sp and as he hands it over to Grinna, who he assumes takes care of the money, he adds, "Wake me if Rerk takes a turn or needs some attention in the night."

Though he had started to reach for his own coin, seeing Utar manage things there led to Doozey instead letting out a sharp whistle to draw Biscuit in for the night. But having stuffed himself more than anticipated however, the stoutling found himself practically flopping onto the Tundra Mastiff's back. "Aight Brother. Onwards and forwards, eh?"Biscuit grumbles, but concedes to play the halflings game. Just not without the intention of getting some petty revenge by using the stoutling as a pillow later.

In their shared room, before the night begins, "It's strange. The late Lord Brokengulf broke the accord not too long ago, in a military effort against the Cult of the Dragon. There was little to no retaliation to anyone involved during or after the operation. It makes me wonder what the exact nature of the agreement was."
As CRAP gets ready for their night at The Leaky Bucket, Utarsends a message to Seranolla. She responds:
"It is good to hear from you. Concerning the villagers, so I've heard. I'll find you soon, when the time is right. Treat her respectfully."
After possibly passing the message along to the rest of the party, Utar volunteers for the first watch and sends the ladies to one room, and Doozey and Biscuit to the other. Grinna thanks the half-orc for the 20 silver pieces and disappears behind the back door.
The fire at the hearth is kept alive during Utar's watch. In the now quiet common room, Utar gets a chance to appreciate the simple but warm decor of the The Leaky Bucket. It's not fancy, but it's comfortable and peaceful now that all the villagers have found their way to their own homes. Given the happenings of this night, Utar can even forgive all the food, dishes, and dinnerware left behind overnight. It might not be very halfling-like, but Hupe will undoubtedly wake up early to take care of all of it before the tavern begins serving the next fast-breaking meal. Utar sees little of concern over his watch.
While Utar is taking his watch, Neya ponders on Lord Valero's excursion into the Quivering Forest. Denae knows little about that mobilization, and so she asks: "And when that happened, did the fey not show their faces? Did they come out of their trees to help in the fight? I wonder if the agreement has a clause for jointly defending Phlan when the enemy is emerging from the forest itself. Sounds like a loophole to me."
(OOC: Pausing here before the next watches to let the RP flow a bit.)
Being used to communal dining at the House of the Hand, Utar keeps himself busy during his watch. Clearing plates, storing leftovers, collecting mugs. More than a few times he feels his concentration slipping from his watch and onto the simple, household chores in front of him, but nothing seemed to have occurred, so how much of a slip could it have been?
Knocking on Neya and Danae's room door to signal change over, he heads to his own room and needs down himself.
(OOC Given we're staying indoors, Utar will have removed his armour prior to his watch. He'll don it again in the morning.)
"The campaign had a three-pronged strategy to prevent Claugiyliamatar, a very old, very dangerous dragon, from making the forest its lair."
"One squad was sent to actually ask the very figure we are here to meet for aid in the effort. If I recall, that group aided him with matters of the heart which did secure his cooperation, or at least his regard."
"The other two groups were to strike strategic points for the Cult and their Thayan allies. Not exactly silent operations, but they were unbothered by the fey. These three objectives were pursued at the same time."
"Considering what one of the denizens of the forest did that to Rerk and possibly to the others this village sent despite their caution. I'm wondering why the strike forces were not similarly attacked or worse."
"Hmmm.... It sounds like a question for your fey friend, then." Denae responds to Neya as the latter walks out of the room to relieve Utar of watch duties.
Neya walks out to a much cleaner common room than she remembered. Her lonely watch starts well but boredom soon takes its toll. Pocking around a little bit, she finds a book that serves as a guest log for The Leaky Bucket and begins to thumb through it. Little notes next to each guest's name let Neya know that the bulk of the inn's hospitality business (as opposed to its tavern business) is delivered to barge captains moving goods up and down the Stonajow River between Phlan and Kabel's Hill. Every now and then, and adventurer or other pops up in the log as well, but the descriptions are not detailed enough for Neya to deduce their reason for being in town. Surely enough, and supporting her earlier claim of passing through the town at some point in the past, Denae's name appears in the log for one night. It would seem her stay was not memorable though, judging by the fact no one in the tavern tonight seemed to remember Denae.
Before too long, two hours have passed and it is time for Neya to call on the next watcher. Neya feels a bit guilty perhaps from being so engrossed in reading the log book and not paying particularly good attention to her surroundings this time. Denae takes her place and wishes her sister a good night. Any questions regarding her entry in the log book are simply met with dismissal and some concern for erasing the record, lest folk start inquiring too much into the Sisterhood's business: "An oversight. I'll strike my name off the book during my watch. Nice catch, Sis."
If anything of note happens during her watch, Denae does not pass along such information. Eventually, she simply knocks on Doozey's door and calls: "Mr. Badger, it is your turn."
Doozey's and Biscuit's watch is textbook perfect, even if the ranger and beast duo finds itself indoors this time. There are no signs of activity in the last hours of the night. However, as the sun begins to peek out in the horizon, a sleepy Hupe emerges from the back ready to start the tavern's day. He is pleasantly surprised to see that most of his postponed cleaning duties have been taken care of, and moves on to his food-prep duties of the early morning. He offers Doozey some coffee and Biscuit some milk, but is respectful enough not to bother the working pair much more than that until he is welcomed to do so. Through a window, Doozey also notice a pair of young boys getting things ready for the day at the stables.
Soon, the rest of CRAP emerges from their rooms, ready for their own day ahead.
Doozey initially looks as if he might refuse the offer, but a light headbutt from Biscuit into his side elicits a sigh of defeat. "Eh, sure. With plenty of honey in it, if ya have any to spare. A-and I'll pay for it regardless. But water for me Brother here least he crop dusts the whole village with his farts."The stoutling relunctantly requests. Biscuit, meanwhile, despite the jab at h8is constitution still puffed out his chest in pride over the good deed.
By the time the other members of CRAP arrive on the scene, Doozey could probably be seen absentmindedly nursing his cup of coffee while staring out the window. "Yesterday there was something about visiting farm, yea? But, eh... was there anything else in town we need doing? 'cause if so, might be we do a bit of dividing and conquering." He says without looking away from the window.

Utar dons his armour, incorporating his morning prayers into the process. The whole things takes on a more ritualistic air, which of course, it is, but it leaves Utar feeling spirituality armoured as well. Just as well given where he's headed.
Still, if dinner was anything to go by, Hupe and Grinna likely serve a delicious breakfast. While he waits, he considers Doozey's suggestion.
"Need to know what's in town to decide that, but I don't see an issue. One group to the farm, another to Halvin's barn?"
What started as coffee with honey for Doozey and a bowl of water for Biscuit soon becomes a full breakfast serving for the entire party. The meal is considerably more modest than last evening's fare, but not an ounce less fresh. It includes wheat porridge, boiled eggs, a selection of breads, and a variety of cheeses. Hupe is never too far and pops in every now and then to answer questions, that is, once he recovers from a fit of giggling following the "crop dusting" remark.
@Doozey: "Need doing? I am not sure there is any thing that needs doing apart from the ones you mentioned. The stables are just stables. The granaries are currently about half full with grain, ready to be loaded onto a barge and shipped downriver to Phlan once the next barge-runner makes their way to Kabel's Hill. Bricklan will be running the docks as he always does, and Hurg will start hammering at his anvil soon enough. I guess the only pressing mundane matter that might be of interest to you is Colvin's business hours, in case you need any supplies. The old man only opens his general goods store for a couple of hours each morning. The other pressing matter is, well, less mundane."
@Neya: "The dead cattle can be found in just the outskirts of town. You can reach it in no time, and I can ask one of the stable boys to lead you there if you'd like. Halvin's barn is few hours walk east of Kabel's Hill. We weren't exaggerating when we said he was a hermit."
Denae is the one to respond to Utar's comment: "I guess that narrows our options then, though we may still join up together again before looking for that Serelis fellow. Where is his cabin, Hupe?" The halfling innkeeper replies: "That one is in the forest itself. We know the path that leads there but don't follow it for obvious reasons. We simply wait for Serelis to come to us. The other stable boy can point out the path to you if you'd like."
Denae chews on the info for a second and asks the group: "It sounds like one of the destinations is much closer than the other two. Do we still want to split up?"
Utar considers Danae's proposal as he chews his morning porridge. "Probably best we all go togther then. Cows then barn?". He looks to the other members of CRAP for approval, then hesitates, "When are Colvin's opening hours, are they scheduled or according to whim?"
"Splitting up might not be an ideal notion, considering that Serelis' cabin is in a place where some dangerous fey are on the alert for further intrusions," Neya says.
"I'm afraid it's the latter," Hupe replies to Utar's latest question. "Some days he doesn't open at all."
Denae nods along with Utar's and Neya's words. She then moves onward as if making a decision for the entire group, as she has impetuously done more than a few times now. "It sounds like the farm visit won't take that much time. I think we have made a decision. Hupe, fetch the stable-hand. We need directions."
Hupe does not hesitate, stepping outside only briefly and then back inside a few seconds later alongside a half-orc child who can't be older than 10. "This is Ferguson," Hupe introduces him. "He knows his way around town better than any grownups." He turns to the boy and his disheveled hair. "Our new friends here need to go pay Ol' Mr. Grol a visit. Can you show them the way?" The kid is quite excited. "Oh, the one with the dead cows! They look disgusting! Let's go!" Without waiting for your confirmation, Ferguson sprints back outside.
If not for his mouth already being somewhat full, Doozey might've sighed at the youth's burst of movement. Still, he shook his head, grabbed the last of his boiled eggs, and then hopped out of his seat, readily following, if albeit at a more casual pace. Before stepping outside however, he turns back to give Hupe a final, thankful wave. Biscuit, on the other hand, tries to snap up anything the others don't finish in their hurry to follow the kid before eventually hurrying outside himself!

Despite having to rush through their last few chewing motions, CRAP does not hesitate to follow young Ferguson. The kid is fast and excited, but understands that his job is to lead you to your destination, not run away from you. Being the fastest one around, Neya catches up easily, followed by the rest of the party. Biscuit was the last to give chase but has no trouble catching up to the group. Hupe pops out of a window and, catching a glimpse of Doozey, reminds him that he and his friends are welcome to come back and finish the breakfast later.
Now back outside, the group can take in the new day's weather in its entirety. The weather is still inclement; raining heavily with intermittent lightning and thunder. Despite the cloud cover, the area is still generally well-lit during the day. In addition to the sounds of rain and thunder, you can also hear the noises made by distant cattle. Your noses, too, can smell the beasts past the scents of freshly turned earth and rain.
Hupe was not lying. Ol' Mr. Grol's farm is just outside the town's limits and easy to reach if you are moving at a fast pace. The farmer is somehow already up despite being quite inebriated still. Ferguson leaves you in the care of Ol' Mr. Grol and yells back at Utar after already backtracking several yards: "I gotta go back to the stables. Come find me if you need more directions!"
The old man wastes no time: "Ya came 'ere for the dead cows, right?! Follow me." Ol' Mr. Grol stumbles toward and then around the back of a shabby barn. Grunting and waving his hands to encourage you to move past him, the drunk farmer leads you right to the deceased cattle. Three cows lay piled near some scrub bushes that surround a large outcropping of rock too big to remove from the farmer's land. Each in various stages of rot, they have all been torn open and it is obvious that large portions of the carcasses are gone; having been carved off by something sharp. A few carrion birds fly away as you arrive, squawking in disapproval at your intrusion, and fighting off rainwater from their ugly plumage.
The scene is messy, and the rain makes it even more so.
Utar leaves others to look at the wounds and instead goes to the head of each animal in turn. Given the mutilations done to poor Rerk, the half-orc is keen to see whether something similar has been done here. Gently pulling the animal's eye-lids open he moves onto opening their mouths for inspection.
Utar rolls his eyes at Doozey's joke and leaves it there. Picking up on Danae's suggestion, he completes CRAP's business with Grinna.
