Ragdor greets his mates following an evening of rest in a nice bed and a warm meal, well friends, where to next? Did I hear someone mention something about a Yawning Tavern?
Oakhurst is at best a large village. The local blacksmith might be able to make you a sword, or repair the one you own, but will not be able to make a suit of armor. For that you will need a larger town, perhaps a city. There you should find armorers, shops, markets, and all manner of things. However, Oakhurst can provide provisions, food, basic necessities for the road.
ERKY will say, "If we are heading to the Yawning Portal, then we will be in a city. Waterdeep is about the largest city along the Sword Coast."
The party is slow to get moving on this hot sunny morning.
(What do you do next? Map link added to the OOC thread.)
Glynt doesn't imagine there's much in this town that he would need and figures he'll be much better off looking for what he wants in a big town so is going to grab a decent feed and a good drink, restock in basic provisions (arrows and rations) and then is ready to hit the road.
The party is given a good breakfast and well wishes for their journey from the people of Oakhurst. Sharwyn and Sir Braford are there to once again thank the party for their rescue. You may notice the two holding hands.
The party gathers their gear and head south along the Long (and winding) Road. The farms become sparse after just a few miles. The party travels over rolling hills and vast tall grassy plains. By late afternoon the tall grassy plains turn into pasturelands. You see herds of horses in the distance. And then you see ranches on both sides of the road with fences and cattle and horses, houses, stables, etc..
By dusk you enter the hamlet of Longsaddle. A unique symbol greets the party along the road.
At the center of the hamlet is The Golden Horseshoe the hamlet’s lone Inn and Tavern. The charming place is busy but not crowded. A rotund human male appears to be working at the bar. And a female half-elf appears to be working the tables. The place goes silent when the party enters and all within look toward the party.
Glynt will smile and greet anyone looking his way as he heads up to the bar and say "Good Evening kind sir, we are on our way from Oakhurst to Waterdeep and have had a hard days travel behind us and more to come. I was hoping you would have some food and drinks for us as well as rooms available for the night."
GLYNTwill notice that the Barkeep is looking at BIX and not you, but responds none-the-less, "We have our Beer and Beef Stew, 2 silvers includes one refill. We have a common room that would suit five travelers for 5 silvers a night. We have private rooms with one or two beds that is for our special guest. That is 1 gold piece per night. This includes dinner and breakfast."
BIX will notice that she is the one everyone is looking at.
Xanth steps in front of her. "Well met all. I'm sure we all could use a good meal and some rest. Then we can all be on our way." He uses all 6 plus feet of muscle to make it clear that he will finish anything that someone would care to start.
XANTH's actions was enough to have those in this charming tavern going back to minding their own business.
The Barkeep will whisper to GLYNT,"She's a Drow, isn't she? I have never seen a Dark Elf before. I don't think anyone from around here has seen a Dark Elf before. They say they be dangerous folk."
Ragdor digs into a pouch, fumbles around for five gold and slips into the Barkeeps hand, that'll get us two doubles and a single, as well as a little extra food and drink, he nods toward Xanth, the boy eats a lot and the gnome drinks like a fish. he moves to a table setting his pack next to a chair and his warhammer leaning against it. He pulls a chair out and looks toward Bix, your ladyship?
Bix, holds her head high, pulls her shoulders back and struts (think Jessica Rabbit) over to the table where Ragdor has pulled the chair out for her. As she slowly sits, she faces Ragdor and says Thank you brother Ragdor and winks at him.
The barkeep will take RAGDOR's gold. He then gives the Dwarf three keys each with a different letter on them,"Rooms are upstairs."
When BIX struts to the table, it will be no surprise that everyone in the tavern will watch. But everyone also minds their manners and goes back to their own business after the Drow Rogue sits.
After a little bit, the Half-Elf waitress brings the party each a pint of beer in wooden mugs. The beer is dark in color but smooth to the taste.
Later, she will bring a loaf of fresh made wheat bread to the table, followed by for everyone a wooden bowl with wooden spoons filled with a hearty beef stew made of generous portions of beef, potatoes, carrots, onions, in a thick broth. She also puts a bottle on the table, "This is our own recipe. But be careful, you would not want more than a drop or two in your stew. There is a water trough for the horses out front if you use too much."
Glynt will reply to the Barkeep (in regards to Bix) "I'd heard the same but like anything there's good and bad in all folks and she's a good-un. We can honestly say we would trust her with our lives because we have as she's helped us out of a number of sticky situations and she's never given the slightest hint of wrongdoing - she was as as genuine as any of us to get a mothers lost daughter home safe and sound safe and sound which seems like a good person to me"

LEVEL FOUR ( not five)
Can I buy some armor? Also if we are going after vampires can we do some research on them? Maybe find out what there weaknesses and strengths are?
I raised to 4th 2 points of str. and rolled 9 for hp.
Bix, joins the group. I hope everyone is well rested. Ragdor, did I hear you say Tavern?
"After we eat is anyone up for a little shopping? How much did we each get? I need to improve some of my gear if we are going up against vampires."
DM what can I find in the way of medium armor? Possibly magic if I can afford it. Which is unlikely.

"Well sounds like we need to start moving towards Watersdeep. Does anyone know much about vampires?"
DM is there a roll to know more?
Most excellent master Erky Ragdor settles up, packs up and readies for the trip.
Glynt doesn't imagine there's much in this town that he would need and figures he'll be much better off looking for what he wants in a big town so is going to grab a decent feed and a good drink, restock in basic provisions (arrows and rations) and then is ready to hit the road.
Bix picks up her pack along with her bag of holding. I'm ready to go.

Ragdor sliding his pack from his back as Glynt speaks, aye, a long days travel.
GLYNT will notice that the Barkeep is looking at BIX and not you, but responds none-the-less, "We have our Beer and Beef Stew, 2 silvers includes one refill.
