Dorn, Calim, and Kneecap all acted with singular focus ...
Calim, for his part interposed his body between the large beast and its intended quarry.
This allowed Dorn and Kneecap the time they needed to each strike once more.
The large, jelly-like monster shook and quivered ... and collapsed. For a being without lungs or viscera — or indeed, any discernible organs or blood — it certainly looked dead.
A sloped pit lined with iron spikes lay in the south side of the room, and a crude bookcase and large table sit in the north-east corner of the room.
To the east and west, closed wooden doors. And to the north ... the archway form which the heroes had arrived.
OOC — Combat is over, gang. Well done. We will no longer be tracking things by round. This room is well lit due to torches hanging periodically in sconces.
Dorn will take a large sigh of relief after being hunched over, hands on his knees. In silence, he’ll push his hair from his face, lazily walk over and pull the rapier from the corpse of the cultist, and reach deep into the mound of jelly to retrieve his dagger; walking over to kneecap and subtly wiping the slime off on the dwarfs back, disguising it as a pat on the back. “Good work everyone… good work”. He places the dagger in his belt.
Volneer walks towards the two men and the dwarf, and says to them, "Well, that was certainly an adventure. Thanks for fighting with me. None of us could've done that alone. Personally, I'd like to burn this place to the ground, but there might be something valuable. What do you say we look around?" He then walks over to the shelf of books and begins looking through them.
As the heroes catch their breaths and take stock of the aftermath of the battle, their eyes were drawn to a sturdy wooden table at the far end of the chamber. Upon it, they find a collection of arcane scrolls and supplies left behind by the defeated cultists. There was an array of arcane summoning supplies, powders, and reagents scattered across the table. Jars and vials containing strange, glittering substances lined the shelves.
This wasn't Volneer's area of speciality (failed arcana), but the supplies were almost certainly connected to the summoning (passed investigation).
OOC — On the table ... 50gp worth of summoning supplies (oils, rare feathers and such), one potion that has an ochre-like hue, one scroll of Darkness.
Volneer is going to collect the valuable summoning supplies, the scroll, and the potion, and then he says "Should I burn these vile writings to dust?" And he's going to ready fire bolt if two or more of the others agree.

“Well, that was fun lads!” Kneecap looks at the elf-man and says, “You spew fire pretty well, very useful in a fight, but remind me not to take you on a ship, burn the damn thing down you would! Hahah! We'd all be swimming to shore!"
"My name is Kneecap, I’m new in town and looking for some adventure! Seems like you all maybe too? Eh?” he offers to the group.
He has no objection to you burning anything related to the summoning, but we should look to make sure there is nothing important, like information on this cult, or information about West Haven.
Kneecap will search the bookshelf for anything interesting.
Volneer can't help smiling at the dwarf's cheerful banter. He looks at his hand and says, "Well, it has been useful today, I suppose. Didn't do anything too crazy. Hang around me long enough, though, and you'll see some crazy things. Trust me, they're... strange." He then proceeds to search for the book that the ochre jelly ritual was in.
Carsten's Codex of the Oozing Realms This ancient tome delves into the mysteries of the paraelemental plane of ooze, detailing its bizarre inhabitants, shifting landscapes, and the secrets of summoning and controlling its slimy denizens. [Readers of this book may, with one day's study, roll with advantage with regard to any Knowledge (Arcana) rolls involving the paraelemental plane of ooze.]
Tome of Chaotic Conjurations Filled with forbidden knowledge and arcane rituals, this grimoire explores the chaotic forces that permeate the multiverse, offering insights into summoning and binding creatures of pure chaos to one's will. [Readily found in most wizard's libraries, a tome that details conjuration / summoning principles ... but otherwise offers no game mechanic.]
The Putresecarium Profundis This enigmatic tome contains cryptic prophecies, hidden truths, and esoteric knowledge gleaned from the Lord of Slime, Ghaundaur. It offers glimpses into the dark secrets that lie beyond mortal comprehension. [Readers of this book may, with one day's study, roll with advantage with regard to any Knowledge (Religion) rolls regarding Ghaundaur.]
Dorn will drop to one knee and speak in whisper to his God Tyr. It can be heard, if you choose to listen: “O, Lord of even hands, you have called your servant, equipped him with comrades who fight alongside him, and shown him this cursed place and have found it out of balance. Today your servants rebalance the scales and deliver justice to the unjust. Let blasphemous nature of this room be cleansed, and the wickedness of these walls be snuffed out. Through your will and the will of the Triad, we persist”. Dorn will rise and interject himself in the party once again. “I am Dorn, forgive my speech if it is not adequate. I am the tethyrian third son of house Tallstag. Each of your skills were worthy of honor and accolade friends. As long as we are here, trust that you have my blade, and our Lord Tyrs blessings upon us. What do you all make of such blasphemy that lie deep below the soil of these lands?”
Volneer smiles tiredly, and says, "We still have to go see what is through these doors. Based on what we saw here today, there can't be anything good. I suggest we all take a break to lick our wounds and prepare for our next task. We may even want to leave this place to do so."
OOC: Volneer is suggesting a short rest in this room, or asking if we want to leave and take a long rest.

Kneecap is not interested in the books now but thinks we should grab them in case they have some information we need later. If there are no objections, he’ll stick them in his pack.
“I’m OK with us taking a short rest. But let’s take a quick listen at these two doors first to make sure where not about to be surprised by a gaggle of cultists!”
Kneecap will put an ear to each door to give a listen unless someone else wants to choose one of the doors.

“a short rest is very much needed… allow me time to take off this damned heavy chainmail. It’s merely ceremonial you see, I prefer to be much more… light on my feet.”
Dorn will doff his chainmail and help Kneecap perceive what’s beyond the doors, taking the opposite door, slowly attempting to open the door, and if it does, crack it open and peer in; and rolling a perception check 16
A few moments are spared to collect the arcane materials, doff armor, and listen at the doors. Both the eastern and western doors were made of stout wood and were quite stuck. No sounds could be discerned on the other side of either door.
The heroes rested in the torchlit summoning chamber. The silence was broken only by the soft rustle of fabric as they shifted uneasily on the cold stone floor, their weapons within easy reach.
After an hour or so, the sound of approaching footsteps and low, hushed conversations broke the stillness. A group was approaching from the north!
Through the stone arch, the heroes caught glimpses of flickering lantern light that bobbed and swayed in the darkness, casting long shadows that danced across the walls. The soft glow of these lanterns illuminated the outlines of figures — at least four — their forms indistinct in the dim light.
The heroes gripped their weapons, tensions mounting, ready to spring into action at a moment's notice, their hearts began to pound with adrenaline-fueled anticipation.
The figures finally reached the arch ... and revealed the familiar face of Aria, the paladin's squire! Her rapier drawn, she had in tow with her three very nervous members of the town militia, their expressions were a mix of relief and concern.
"Oh, Thank the gods!" Aria exclaimed, letting out a shuddering breath.
Her gaze met Dorn's just then and some of her resolve faltered.
"I did as you asked, milord." She said, hurriedly offering her explanation of why she had disobeyed.
"But when you didn't return ... I feared the worst." Her voice cracked. "And I ... I didn't know what had become of you."
OOC — A short rest was taken, please let me know if you would like to spend any hit dice on healing.

In between words, he will stick his pinky into the ochre-hued potion they found and give it a taste, hoping to identify the potion.
Dorn prepares to lunge, gaining the edge on any creature coming through the hallway, and as he does, he freezes as he sees Aria. "Ah, escedura!" and embraces her in a hug as if she, and the company of guards are sight for sore eyes. "you did well escedura, do not trouble yourself. Come, meet these men of valor" Dorn will walk over to the center of the group and announce to all "Friends, this is my squire. Aria, this is Volneer, gifted in the arcane. Calim, the valiant blacksmith. and Kneecap the fisherman with a hammer." And he'll whisper: "He is more excellent then he sounds... he holds himself exceptionally in combat, and I heard he once caught a Barbfish the size of a whale... it must have been a historical feat to witness."
"Gentlemen, It has been quite some time... I suspect any creature left lingering in these halls would have revealed themselves by now. Perhaps we return to West Haven and rest? Or if you prefer, we see about removing these doors from their hinges, and finish exploring this underground ruin. I will follow whichever decision is agreed to."
