Archibald was the last to arrive, panting and out of breath he made his introductions. "Archibald Frostlight, son of Reginald. Pleasure to..." he was cut off by screeches from the dragon above. "Per-perhaps we could do something to help. What's the plan? What's everyone thinking? I've got this shortbow here, uh, I don't know how much that will help us against a fully grown dragon." He hurriedly scanned the parts of the city he could see, hoping something there would give him some insight into the situation.

Archibald - Human Rogue - lvl 1 "Hoard of the Dragon Queen"
Glancing about you notice the shapes on the ground are truly a more immediate threat than the dragon. The fires that burn at the town are distractions; the buildings more or less unharmed while hay carts, wood sheds, and smaller constructions were set ablaze. The unafraid brings that scurry about the streets have a familiar air about them. Something about the Cult of the Dragon looms in your mind as you watch smaller humanoids with snouted faces scamper behind larger human thugs, their weapons drawn and packs jingling with treasures... Their hunched runs to protect their stolen bounty cast odd shadows in the flickering light.

Kyros was just about to address the panting, wheezing man who had joined them at the city gates when the dragon, swooping overhead and roaring menacingly, brought his attention back around. His brow furrowed, and his eyes darted to and from the smoke columns rising from the city before them. "It's just... posturing.. And look, despite all this smoke, none of these buildings are actually on fire.." The discovery stunned him, until a shrieking cry for help forced reality upon him once more. Just a few paces up the street, some townsfolk were fleeing before a whooping and hollering gang of humanoid figures. "Mongrels!!" Kyros spit, "At least the danger to those people is real enough. Come friends, we have work to do!" he commanded, striding forward, quickening his pace with every step to charge down brigands before him.
Kyros doesn't get but 100 feet when 6 hooded humans block the street in front of him, forming a perpendicular line with their bodies to his. They draw weapons, curved blades and bows, wordlessly readying an attack!
Please roll initiatives and describe your positions! (FYI: they currently are only really aware of Kyros, the rest of you as this post is made, are about 80 feet away with these hooded figures visible, but not focused on you. They are directly ahead, fanned out as described above.)
Kyros had to pull himself up short as the humans formed up before him. He stood there a moment, as a smirk slowly crept across his face. "Six-to-one odds seems almost a little unfair... to you." His eyes widened as his nostrils flared, readying himself for the coming fight as he dropped into a battle stance. "Are you sure that you're up to the challenge?" He asked his assailants loudly.
(OOC : Praying to Bahamut almighty that I get to go before all of them...)
Talien raised an eyebrow as a man came panting up beside him; nodding as the man introduced himself as Archibald Frostlight. "Well met Archibald, we were just discuss-" Talien was cut short by the screeching of the dragon overhead. As Kyros explained that the buildings were in fact not on fire, simply surrounded by it, Talien noticed the same and his eyes shifted to the creatures running about town with weapons held high and arms full of trinkets. "Though the fires aren't causing harm, those creatures are not reveling in good times...and if my eyes do not betray me, they do not look like they're of this world. Those people are still in trouble..." As he finished his sentence, a shout rose above the chaos and Kryos, who had apparently not been listening, cursed, repeated Talien's observation of the creatures, and ran into the town to face them head on. "I just said that," muttered Talien as he watched Kyros leave. He let out a sigh as Kyros was soon brought face-to-face with 6 hooded figures and began shouting at them. "More words of one eager to die in battle, no doubt," thought Talien as he held his necklace in one hand, and his quarterstaff in the other (which was now glowing faintly with a green aura) and walked into Greenest next to Kyros. Eyes fixed on the enemies before them, Talien spoke to Kyros. "You are very bold, Dragonborn, and if I die in this village, well," his tone lightened, "There could be worse folk to have at my side when that happens. Shall we?" With a smirk, Talien let go of his necklace and gripped his staff with both hands, ready to fight.
(OOC: I cast Shillelagh on my staff since I saw Kyros walk into the enemies - hence the green)

Lias barely had time to nod to Archibald before Kyrios charged off towards the town. "He is very hasty," she said to the wheezing man. "Speed is not always for the best." She paused to return the drum to her pack, inflate the bagpipes, and find the rapier tucked in her belt before falling in behind her new comrades. As she saw the adversaries before them ,she stopped behind Kyrios and took a deep breath.

Archibald was alarmed by the hooded figures, he knew their presence here couldn't bode well. "Not exactly subtle, are they?" he said, to no one in particular. He took a moment to gather a second wind, and made note of the preoccupation the figures had with Kyros. Recognizing his opportunity, Archibald drew his rapier and advanced, attempting to sneak up on the figures by cloaking himself in the chaos and confusion.

With his new friends suddenly beside him, Kyros seizes the opportunity and shifts his stance, dancing around the adjacent Elf, and rolling to the head of line of foes (near No. 6).
The six figures, initially taken aback by the fighter, appear to have regained their resolve. Though from their initial stunned silence the humanoid in front of Talien takes a quarterstaff to the head, though looks to be more angry than injured. The first, leftmost being, dodges Archibald's attack and whirls to face him. The figure next to him suddenly claps his hands to his ears and writhes in pain for a moment before succumbing to the whispers of hideous polka and dies with a shudder.
The figure that is in front of Talien sees Kyros spring nimbly (in the fighter's own mind) over to the end of the row of them and lashes out with his scimitar before the Dragonborn is out of range. The blade licks against Kyros' hide for 5 damage!
Once on the end, however, they turn to see the blast of lightning arc through them! The first four (6 - 3, except dead #4) alight in blue glow as Kyros' breath weapon takes them! Smashing into each other and convulsing with electricity they die instantly but continue to shake. The second figure managed to ground himself slightly before being struck and seems shaken, but not down. The first figure was also unlucky and screams as the metal mask on his face sears to his skin, killing him.
Since only the second enemy remains he attempts to avenge his comrades by attacking Archibald! He swings with his scimitar, connecting for 4 damage!
Catching a bit of off-tune....was that...polka...? coming from the half-orc behind him, Talien lost some of his momentum and rather than dealing a killing blow to the hooded figure, simply knocked him upside the head and he saw the figure to his left fall to his knees screaming. The enraged man in front of Talien lit up like a campfire only seconds later as Kyros bellowed out a lightning blast that chained through all but one of them.
Talien, after the cacophony of polka and lightning dissipated, returned his focus to the remaining figure, spun his quarterstaff in a masterful flourish around both arms and his back, and struck at the side of the man's head.
Attack: 21 Damage: 17
"That's more like it," Talien thought as the staff made contact with the man's temple.
"Well fought, Comrades! And that was a mighty blow indeed, Talien. Though I think we may just be getting started." Kyros glanced up the street before looking over their fallen foes. He moved, albeit a bit slowly, over to investigate the wounded human. "Archibald was it? How are you faring after that blow? In the meantime, we would do well to learn what we can from these..." He nudged one of the corpses with his foot.
Talien's devastation of the last standing figure was obscene for a druid. Frustrated with his first strike, the elf laid all of his natural power into that flourish and sent a whistling quarterstaff into the head of the last figure. That head didn't remain attached to the body much longer. The almighty clang of magical wood against heavy iron probably killed the man, but the decapitation that followed certainly didn't detract from that...
With this battle fought, you still see plenty of chaos around you, but a moment's respite may do you some good to catch up with each other.

Given your all's voracity to help out in this skirmish--" he glanced with awe and fright at each of the group in front of him, thinking of how they'd each ruthlessly dispatched their foes "--I presume you'll not mind if I try and find any clues on these ne'er-do-wells."
