The commander eyes Odrith, signs of visible respect showing on his face.
"We heard reports of a disturbance in this building. I wish I had known you were already investigating before I gathered my men. I will leave you to your business. Keep your eye out for more trouble throughout the city. I think the guilds are up to something."
He motions for his guards to clear out, taking the Kenku with them.
"Well." Renaer says, "I wish we could have had their help finding Floon, but I doubt he'd have given it, even with knowing you, Odrith. He puts on a respectable face, but everyone here knows he couldn't be happier if the guilds ended up all killing each other. Less work for him, right? Now, the sewers. I think there's an entrance in the back alley outside. You all should head there and find him as quick as you can!"
The distraction of the guards barging into the warehouse was a welcome one, one that distracted her friends from the furious expression on her face. Renear had pushed her, PUSHED HER AWAY. When all Kaivius had been doing had been trying to help. And he had the audacity to decide who did and didn't need healing? Did he have years of training to back up his opinion? While Kaivius is caught up in her angry thoughts, Odrith exchanges words with what seems to be the captain of the guard. She's brought back to the conversation by the guards leaving, taking the Kenku with them. Renear spouts off something about a sewer, and Kaivius is more than happy to reply.
"The sewers you say? Well they will be a welcome relief compared to present company" she says acidly. "At least the rats tell you what they are"
Whit puts his hands down and readjusts his coat. "Must we venture into the sewers? Can't we let the guards handle it from this point on and just go have a beer and listen to bards? With some nice mulled wine and a cozy fire?"
Well that had went better than expected. No guards to be all nosy and someone that might know a little more about everything following them along. Chalk gets out her book and scribbles some notes about Odrith and the city guard. Could be useful. Plus it helped her avoid her minor annoyance that they would soon be in the sewers. Much too damp down there.
"Mr. Volo could I get your autograph? We can't leave him helpless!" Chalk responds in Whit's own voice with a mocking begging motion. "Venture into the sewers?" The sooner the set out the sooner they might be done with them. And maybe they could find some of those rats that Kaivius was talking about. "Follow the yellow signs." She adds in a nasally voice.
You make your way outside and find a close manhole cover in the back alley. The cover is easily lifted, and you descend into sudden blackness. Standing at the bottom of the ladder, the light from the setting sun barely makes it to the bottom. You can see each other crowded around the ladder, and a little bit in both directions of this tunnel. A putrid stream flows along this sewer tunnel. In one direction, you see a tiny symbol drawn on the wall in yellow chalk: a palm-sized circle with ten equidistant spokes radiating out from its circumference, exactly like you saw tattooed on the bodies in the Zhen warehouse.
Odrith takes out a torch and lights it with a small jet of flame from his mouth, carrying his shield at the ready in the other hand. "It appears the trail is going to be simple to follow, lets press forward, stay behind me and I'll try my best to protect you." Odrith says as he starts to follow the yellow markers.
Odrith is moving at half speed and shield up, action economy: Action: defensive stance/dodge Move: max move
Whit, still stewing over Chalks excellent use of his own words, quite literally straightens his back and tightens his jaw line. Not enough to be immediately noticable but enough for him. "Well, we've got a Floon to save." And marches behind Odrith.
Chalk scribbles a few further notes in her book before storing the notebook and hopping after the others. Knowing what that symbol was later might come in handy after all. She wasn't happy to be scrabbling about the sewer but it could have been worse. Somehow. As Odrith was shielding his well everything, Chalk tries to keep a lookout past the two leading bodies. She probably wouldn't see much with her short stature but someone among them had to have a little presence of mind.
After an hour of following signs through the tunnels, you come to a three-way intersection where a ladder leads up into a stone shaft capped by a circular metal cover. One of the familiar chalk symbols is marked on a wall nearby, and floating near the symbol is a spherical, grapefruit-sized creature with a bulging central eye and four stumpy eyestalks. It bares its teeth at you.
Movement: move 30 feet toward it, or into melee Action: Defensive stance/dodge action Free: Shout: "Move into position, I will try to gather its attention, be quick, I've already taken a bolt to the chest, I don't wan't too much more pain today."
Kaivius thought that it couldn't get more dirty than that bar. Boy was she wrong. The group willingly went into the sewers, and of course Kaivius had to follow to make sure no one died of sepsis. After traveling a while, Odrith shouts at a creature and tries to jump into the fray. The creature doesn't seem that intimidating, it's tiny! Nevertheless, Kaivius knows it won't last much longer against the might of her colleagues.

Walking walking walking. At least they had fairly clear directions to go on. If only the scenery wasn't so well, disgusting. Chalk keeps checking in on Kavius to make sure she isn't dead from shock. She was always so fretful of them getting dirty. Wouldn't even tolerate Chalk's periodic dust baths....that she knew of. The sudden arrival upon the perceptive eyeball was interesting. Chalk had never seen one before but if the others seemed to think it dangerous well Chalk would carry on and help.

The Gazer manages to dodge out of the way of Whit's spell, but the distraction causes it to take the full force of Chalk's. The tiny aberration is covered in blue ice, before it shivers violently, shaking it off. Odrith and Kaivius, who are forming a staggered wall in the small sewer in front of their friends, are suddenly hit by beams of light shooting from its eyes.
Odrith is hit by a black ray of light shooting from an eye stalk, and he feels an irresistible fear of this small monster. (He is now Frightened ). The Gazer gives him a wicked grin, and says in his own voice back at him "MoRe PaIn".
A lavender ray of light hits Kaivius hard in the chest, an audible impact making her grunt. She strains forward, resisting the urge to be flown backward. The Gazer looks from Odrith to her, his grin fading as she unexpectedly resists him.
Well this didn't seem to be too much an issue. A sudden light-show wasn't dangerous. "More Pain!" She shouts in kind letting out another freezing burst.

Odrith hears the voice in his head and feels a sudden fear come over him, he understand that this is a magical effect, but it doesn't matter right now, he is in danger! Reaching down to his flail, Odrith's hand is shaking too much to properly grip it, there is only one possibility left, relying on his ancestry. Odrith's maw opens with a might glow and flames erupt from his mouth over the little blazing bastard.

The Gazer is wracked with pain from Whit's insult, before being hit by Chalk's spell. He is able to shake it off this time, but it causes him to stumble into Odrith's path just as he lets out a giant belch of flame. The Gazer screams loudly before falling into the muck at the bottom of the sewer, a putrid steam coming from the boiling mess. The creature is slain!
"Well, that's that, anyone hurt or need a breather? If not then we should move on and follow this yellow marker further in. The presence of this creature does not bode well for what we might find further in."
"I'm sure we will be fine, right Odrith? Kaivius? I'm sure they put the toughest creature to guard the way in. We handled it easily. They couldn't possibly have worse. Let's keep going and get out of these damned sewers."
