Graxx, Rag, and Andmarir only manage to arrive at the market area after the sun has already set. A couple of merchants are still putting their wares away, but seem more intent in getting home to their families than doing any more business this day. The trio has to wait until the next morning to peddle their loot. Even then, it takes most of the day for them to find agreeable folk and/or prices. By the time they are done selling everything, it is already supper time of the day after they destroyed the Secret Prison.
Graxx, Andmarir, and Rag need to each remove 5gp from their wallets to account for acquiring food and shelter over this period of time. The Tea Kettle is still out of commission, so you had to find another, more expensive place to stay.
RILLO'S PLACE
Utar and Neya silently accompany Rillo back home. Once there, the two adventurers stumble through sorry attempts at some comforting words. Before they know it, hours have passed while they were trying to be good neighbors. Rillo provides you with some uncomfortable corners to sleep in (despite being a relatively well-off tinkerer, his home is tighter than cozy). Rillo goes to bed still feeling a bit down. The next morning, he is his cheery self once again, although you judge most of it to be just a facade. He is absent minded enough to send you on your way with all the coin but without any breakfast. After a horrible night, both physically and emotionally, Neya and Utar leave Rillo's home with 350gp (i.e. 50gp per person) and a point of exhaustion each.
RUINED LYCEUM
Many people are waiting for treatment. It seems that a sudden unexplained sinkhole opened beneath the Ruined Lyceum just about an hour before Drazzim and the Order of the Gauntlet ladies arrived there. A lot of the supplies have been destroyed, and many patients are being sent home after a quick Healing Word here or there. Yllivia and Villonah leave the medical area after only receiving about a quarter of the treatment the gnome girl probably needed. In his frustration, Drazzim downs a bottle of liquid that looked like ale atop one of the supply barrels. It was something a lot stronger than that. The dwarf wakes up in a cold street corner the next morning, feeling poisoned once again.
Come morning, Utar stands as close to upright as he can in the small confines of the tinker's home. It is not made for a half-orc, and he cuts a comical figure, neck bent awkwardly and heavily hunched.
"Your actions saved your girl yesterday. She was in no state when we found her and I doubt her rescue party would have done much good given there was only one of her. You saved her, the others caught in those cells and hopefully protected others from the same fate in the future. If you need any help in future, you can always call on me."
Utar coughs nervously, expecting some conversation from Rillo, but is grateful enough to be ushered outside. As he stands, he hears several worrying clicks and cracks from his complaining body.
By the time the group reconvenes in front of the still-closed-for-business Tea Kettle, it is already the night of the day after the trip into the Secret Prison. Utar, Neya, and Drazzim look a bit unconfortable, while Andmarir, Rag, and Graxx look unhappy after spending the whole day peddling. At this point, all the gold is distributed fairly among the six adventurers present, including Marfaen's original portion.
No one knows Villonah or Yllivia's fate, but you feel you could always pay old Rillo a visit if you'd like. Looking inside his pocket, Drazzim finds a fourth Potion of Healing wrapped around a written note signed Y&V. It reads: "The Black Fist knights hold the honest citizens of Phlan in a state of fear with their tyranny, and their interest in anything related to dragons is a bad sign for the city. Do not trust anyone. Not the Labor Guilds, not the Welcomers, not this rumored Cult of the Dragon, and above all, not the Black Fists. Burn this message. Farewell"
(OOC @Everyone: Please keep an eye open for my next few posts. They will contain bookkeeping details).
The night was not very restful for Neya. Even though she does not take up very much space, it was still very hard for her to find any position resembling comfort, and possibly a dislocated shoulder. When she got up from her contorted position when morning dawned, all of her muscles screamed in agony.
"You should also be proud of Villonah. She seems to have found a good outlet, I seem to recall my superiors speaking highly of her organization. Thank you for the roof, and feel free to contact me for any other troubles."
She sees that Rillo is not even half-listening and makes her way out.
Once the door to Rillo's home shut, she pops her shoulder back into place.
Below you'll find my notes on the loot found and gathered by the party during this episode. These records exclude mundane items/weapons you might have collected along the way. Please note that this is also your last chance to divide/share/bargain/request/trade the spoils of war, if so desired.
SPOILS OF WAR (EPISODE 5)
The total monetary reward was 143gp, 7sp, and 9cp per character, which you received from completing the mission, striking a deal with Villonah, and from selling loot (including gems and treasure pieces). These amounts also already include the redistribution of Marfaen's portion, which he did not want. Other rewards in more detail:
Getting a (partial) conclusion for your characters:
If it strikes your fancy, I'll ask that each of you post at least one more time detailing what your characters do after/as you leave the Tea Kettle -- a conclusion of sorts (Marfaen already got his!). Feel free to keep the dialog going for a bit too if you'd like. For example, is your character going to find a new inn for the night, finding another spot in Phlan, getting a bath, ponder on the politics of this city, riding into the sunset, etc? Make it interesting and you might just start the next episode with extra information.
This is also the time to let me know if you are going out shopping for any items (like Rag already did). Any mundane items you have can be sold for 50% value (rounded down) and purchased for the price listed in the PHB. If you want to a more specific task, just reach out. Make your decision part of your concluding post and we can then continue separately on quick/short 1-on-1s if need be.
Once we get a concluding post for each character or we stop receiving posts, I'll officially close the thread.
Utar is quiet as the group meets in front of what remains of the Tea Kettle, doing a perfunctory job of passing out the monies from Rillo.
With The Kettle closed, Utar is at a loss. Outside of the temple, it was where he felt most comfortable in Phlan. Met and spoke with his friends, drank copious amounts of tea.
Whatever game is being played in Phlan, Utar cannot fathom it, its rules, or the players. He quietly slopes off from the group and heads towards the temple. There is a bowl of something hot and a cot to rest in waiting for him there. He intends to do some digging about the Order of the Gauntlet with the other clerics, try to gain some clarity through meditation about whatever is happening here, and ask Torm whether his actions are actually making a difference. He doesn't feel very much like a hero right now.
Graxx desperately needs a bath. He will go to the nearest water source to wash the blood from his body. He feels his spirits lifted that he has come one step closer to fulfilling his promise of avenging the donkey's brutal death from what seems like so long ago. But, he knows there is much more blood to be shed before Peace can be achieved. He starts to realize that he is seemingly starting to care more about the citizens of Phlan and the well being of his new friends rather than returning to his Tribe to dethrone the corrupt chieftain. He is unsure how this makes him feel.
As Neya was distributing the money with Utar, she notices that nobody is in a particularly good mood.
Before she can even think of what to do next, she decides to go the Laughing Goblin for a hot meal and rents a room for a far more comfortable night's rest.
The next day, she buys a replacement length of hempen rope (1g), some cartographer's tools (15g) and a crowbar (2g) at the market. She then goes to the seedier side of town to look for information on the Labor Guilds. If her words aren't enough to get her what she wants, maybe some coin will.
Alright folks. I don’t think we are getting any more character conclusion posts for this game so I am going to go ahead and call it scene on this episode.
If you haven’t yet taken into account any XP or loot gained during this game, please refer to the bookkeeping posts above.
