Respar looks over the undead creature in the cage, and closely at the arm. He looks for any tattoos or scars or anything that could identify the person in the cage...or even multiple people used to construct this creature, if that is what it is. He will even search the things that might have once belonged to the prisoner(s).
Respar looks at Eya and Kiven, then gestures back out of the room and whispers, "We leave now." He heads back up the stairs. This alchemist will probably know someone has been here, but won't raise too much of a fuss, no doubt worried his own secrets coming out.
Eya, still invisible and disguised completely in black as an androgynous looking figure, goes to quickly gather the poison chemicals that she feels will badly sicken several guards. She also grabs several documents describing what the alchemist has been doing here with this..."research." Finally, she tries to get a sample of the strange blue-grey substance using a combination of the Traveler's Any-Tool (to turn into a long pair of tweezers or pliers for harvesting) as well as Mage Hand to take a small bit of it in a spare vial for study.
She places everything in her bag then leaves this place with her companions. After they do their best to cover their tracks and close all the doors, she sends a message to Kiven and Respar, "We need to move quickly and let the authorities know anonymously with some proof and a letter explaining everything we saw. We need to do this before dawn. I can draft the letter, but we should place it somewhere where someone with authority will easily find it. Do either of you have ideas on who best to give the evidence to? We could try placing it under Master Vallison's door. You can reply to this message."
Once back in her room, she begins writing a letter, not in her own handwriting, describing the horrors the three witnessed and exactly where the secret room is in the alchemist's shop. She will explain the need for urgency in this matter before he can harm anyone else. She also makes a copy of one or two of the more incriminating papers. Then, she folds up the originals along with the letter and seals them using candle wax and the any-tool as a stamp bearing the symbol of Mitra.
She hands the sealed documents to Respar, then communicates via message, "Would you and Kiven go and place this somewhere where an authority figure may find it easily? Perhaps Master Vallison's home under the door or any other Mitran captain's place? In the meantime, I want to study this vial." If Respar requests it, she will grant him Invisibility to do this since Kiven should be able to turn invisible himself.
Couple of things to note here. Eya is using candles and parchment she purchased for the letter and wax. Linguistics skill for forgery to make her handwriting look different from her own. I will make a Stealth roll as well if needed. Eya will then take 20 to study the vial in her room which would give her a 33 on Arcana or a similarly high number for Alchemy. If any more rolls are needed, please let me know Daishain.
Once the letter is ready, Respar will take the letter and head for the keep through the streets and roads, and either slip it into under guard post door or simply drop it in a hall, then dash back down the hill.
Stealth, if still invisible, add another 20, please. 18
Eya rifles through and finds particularly incriminated pages of the alchemist's notes. In spite of his actions, it seems that Teryth Caldwin is a devout servant of Mitra. Or at least he sees himself as such. It is his view that letting death rob the faith of its finest servants is a mistake.
His notes catalog his search to find a method of animating the bodies of the dead through alchemical means rather than the usual necromantic spells. Caldwin apparently decided that such a creature would not actually be a blasphemous undead due to the lack of negative energy being used. He theorizes that the technique could allow the resulting creature to make use of the abilities and skills the person had in life, but expresses frustration at his lack of success in that regard. The creature he has made has proven little more than a simple minded brute, unable to even speak.
It seems that the man he is working on is one Captain Jared Gauldenforth, a much respected veteran of the wall who died a few years ago.
Between the notes and Eya's study, she is able to quickly confirm that the substance is intended to aid the transference of complex electrical signals.
---
Respar easily drops off the note at the local guard post. Its not much more than a small house near the local church, but the handful of men who are needed to keep the peace in this town reside there.
---
Jesla approaches the keep, not far behind the scout patrol. She is stopped at the gate by one of the watch on guard, "What is your business here miss?"
Jesla tries to giggle and smile. " Im sorry. I wasnt aware what was up here. Im new to the village and just wanted to get some air. Can i come up there and enjoy the view? Its so pretty here. I just know it would be amazing. " She chafes inside at her attempt to gain information.
The guard says, "I'm sorry miss, but unless you're here on business, civilians aren't allowed in save for the Sunday mass." His partner nudges him, "Oh come on, look at her, she just wants to see the view, what's the harm?" "The harm is that old curmudgeon Havelyn would have your hide if he knew you decided to make an exception because of a pretty face. Leave it be."
After her study of Master Caldwin's work, Eya puts everything away and hides her bag underneath her bed towards the very back. It's late now and she is truly tired. After all, she had spent the vast majority of her day meticulously crafting items and potions, not to mention their most recent infiltration and her late night study of Caldwin's work. At least her potions were all ready now for sampling at the boar feast. She smirks at that last thought. A boar feast was the last thing she expected to be taking part in.
"What a fool," she thinks to herself regarding Master Caldwin. Still, on some level she admired his dedication to his research and it was somewhat impressive that he managed to get so far with alchemy alone. This was clearly his obsession. From her point of view, magic would have been a much easier way to achieve what he wanted, but he was hamstrung by "good." Unfortunately, to a laymen, it doesn't much matter whether you use negative energy or alchemy to animate a corpse. Either way, it is blasphemy of the highest order and extremely disrespectful in the eyes of the holier-than-thou Mitrans.
Before bed, she sneaks out while invisible to do her nightly casting of Alarm in the secret passage entrance, then goes to sleep.
---
The next day, she spends her morning working on Kiven's crown with a similar enchantment to hers. She thinks about what skill would be most beneficial for him. He's not a particularly good talker, at all, but it might help to have someone be good at reading others. It will take her one more day to finish this item. She finds that she is able to work faster now with her enhanced intelligence.
In the afternoon she goes to inspect her new shop. She asks Respar, Kiven, and Jesla if they can help her clean the place up and begin getting it ready for business. They need to clean it, make signage, and make it presentable. It might take some time, but eventually it should be ready. If possible, Eya will look for a basement or cellar. Down there, she will use small earth elementals to create a hidden hole to hide the alchemy poison in. She uses Alarm at night to go off if this cellar is ever accessed.
That evening she joins in the festivities with the boar feast. She lets many of the dwarves like the peachy Barnabus and anyone else try samples of her alchemical remedies including the Fortifying Brew, the Poison Ward Salve, and the Rager's Aid to promote her business.
Daishain, I assumed the home would have some sort of basement area but if it doesn't I can change where to hide things. Eya learned Terran with her recent increase in intelligence, so she can communicate with the earth elementals and give them more complex instructions. I will update her character sheet soon with everything. Two alarms are now being set nightly, one guarding the basement of her shop and one guarding the secret passage entrance.
Jesla assumes a sad face. " I dont wish to get anyone in trouble. Is there any way to make an exception? I came all this way out here. If not... i understand. "
The senior guard says, "Sorry miss, but I can't make exceptions. Feel free to return for the mass on Sunday. You will get a chance to see many of the sights then."

The next morning, the town is buzzing with the news that Master Caldwin has been arrested. What's more, he had made some kind of abominable undead monstrosity that killed five soldiers before it was finally put down. Word is he'll be sent to Branderskar within a few days.
The newly rented home is somewhat worn down, but intact and tidy. Aside from the changes needed to make it into a shop, it really just needs a thorough dusting and some new furniture. The root cellar proves more than adequate for hiding the stolen materials.
That afternoon, there's a knock on the door. It proves to be two men from the watch, one of them wearing a captain's uniform. His eyes show intelligence and seem to be frankly assessing you. "Greetings, I am Captain Eddarly, I have some questions for you. May I come in?"
Eya smiles softly and replies, "Please, come in captain. Apologies for the state of the shop, we are still in the process of getting it ready for business."
She motions for them to come inside and closes the door.
Respar looks up from where he has been straightening things and deciding what sorts of shelving they will need to at least order to keep up appearances. He hears the man speak and nods in welcome as the captain and the other man enter. "Welcome, good sirs. I'm Dayven, and you've met my sister Rose. What can we do for you?"
The captain and the guard with him step within, "I'm sure you've heard by now about the scandal with our town alchemist Caldwin. Some anonymous person led us right to his lab. I started to look into it when much to my surprise I heard there were more alchemists around. Newly arrived, and apparently unconcerned about having competition. A few days after their arrival, that competition gets hauled off to a cell. Now, I lack the wisdom some hold for granted, but I must wonder if these events are connected. Are they?" He looks at you all, plainly hunting for signs of deception.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Martha is taken aback by this. She replies to the captain, "So the rumors are true then? That he created some sort of undead abomination? I could tell the man was a little odd when I met him, but that's true of most in this line of work... I never expected anything like this."
She shakes her head, clearly disturbed by this. Then, she pauses for a moment out of respect for those who died before continuing, "To answer your question from earlier, captain, no. We are new alchemists in town, that much is true. But we had actually hoped to purchase raw ingredients from Master Caldwin in order to make our own products that differed from his. Each alchemist has their own specialty after all, with some much more troubling than others apparently. Now we will have to gather the bulk of the ingredients required ourselves."
She looks to her brother with a worried expression, "This might set us back at least a week or two, brother."
Dayven shakes his head. "I understand your suspicion, Captain. For a man in your position, I'd even says it's admirable. So any who say you lack wisdom must be dense in their own right. The one thing I would correct in your assumptions is we are worried about competition. Every merchant must be. But for us to be able to learn such a horrible thing in so short a time would be to give us credit for more wisdom than WE possess."
Kiven arrived a bit late to the new store and was just checking out the premises and their meager supplies thus far when there was a knock at the door. Being the team player that he is, he decided to do the unthinkable in that moment and grasp a broom. As Captain Eddarly enters The Prince acts as if he was sweeping in the back area behind the counter but pauses and listens with interest, all while still portraying old man Wulfric. He has his daggers hidden away in his magically altered robes and lingers close to the counter where his bow is tucked away just out of sight.
The captain looks between Rose and Dayven, eventually stating, "Ultimately whomever it was did us a service, that abomination would no doubt have been all the more dangerous had Caldwin been allowed to complete his work. Even one armed it tore through our recruits like few things I've seen before. Nevertheless, I am concerned about the apparent skullduggery involved. We don't need that kind of thing here."
He hesitates, then says, "In regards to the supply issue, Caldwin has been declared forsaken. His goods and property are forfeit, and since he left no heir, they will be auctioned off once all heretical items have been separated and destroyed. I doubt many others around here will have much interest in his ingredients, so chances are you will have your chance to claim what you need."
Respar gets the distinct sense that the Captain does not fully believe your claims, but is not certain enough to act at this present time. Chances are he intends to keep an eye on you.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Respar nods at the captain's words. "Well, my sister did meet with him at least once, so she should know what else we will still need to find on our own, and since I am sure it will be at least several days until the auction, we can focus on those items. But since we are new to town, sir, are there any specials notes you can share with us? Places or people it might be wise to avoid, or friends to cultivate for our business? Things of that nature."
OOC: Rolling Diplomacy rather than Bluff, since the interest is genuine.
As this Captain mentions skullduggery and not needing that kind of thing here, Kiven's blood boils as the Prince's desire to show the man his true place here almost overwhelms him. He bites his tongue and thinks of his bow down near his knees, picturing burying a magic infused arrow into the man's skull and watching him fall. Kiven is able to let logic win out though, knowing it is best not to make their situation in town worse and trusting in Eya to deal with such problems better than he could, for now.
Annaryth makes her way slowly back to town and reports to the others when she can quietly. " So i was busy today. I visited the keep and tried my best to take a tour. That didnt work out but i did find out that civilians are allowed in the keep only on sundays for the mass. That might give us a chance to get in there and check things out. "
The captain looks at Respar for a bit before replying, "The only person I might have warned you about is now behind bars. This is a righteous community, and I am proud of what we've built here together. If you really want to get to know this town I suggest speaking to Father Donnagin, he is the heart and soul of this community. His endorsement would go a long way."
"Regardless, I have other matters to address. So I shall depart. Ladies, Gentlemen, we shall speak again." He stands and departs, taking the young watch cadet with him.
---
The next day, most of the town migrates up to the fort for Sunday mass. They return beaming, visibly uplifted, and more than ready to attend the promised shindig at the Lord's Dalliance.
The dwarves didn't attend the mass, instead holding their own holy ceremony in the Inn's common room. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it mostly consisted of telling tails of their ancestors and drinking.
The main portion of the dire boar roast has been on heat since before the sun rose that morning, and the smell of it cooking with the seasoning its been brining in is driving those around it almost crazy.
