This is a recruitment thread for the Dragon of Icespire Peak campaign line. To keep it simple, please keep the races and classes to only what's available in the PHB.
Stats will be rolled for, and we'll start at level 1 and please use the below application layout. (When rolling stats, roll 2 sets and pick a set.)
Name: Race: Class: Background: Backstory: Your backstory must include a job or hobby your character might have been doing in the modern current world, that would make sense as to why your class would be what you pick. Ex.: If you pick a fighter for your class, your backstory might include something that involves boxing or working as a personal trainer. If you pick a ranger, maybe you enjoyed going hunting or maybe you were a soldier in the army. Any questions, feel free to ask.
Intro to the Campaign: It was just another day for all of you, you may not have been located in the same area, but you all feel the same feeling, a feeling of sickness. After a couple minutes of nausea and lightheadedness, you all pass out. By the time you wake up, you are in a strange town you've never heard of or seen before. As you get your bearings you notice you are no longer Human, but instead, something else. (Unless you chose Human, then you're still Human.) You're also not in the same clothes/gear you were wearing when you passed out.
Regardless of the class you have chosen, you do not know EXTREMELY well how to use the items/spells/weapons you do have, but you do have an idea of how things are done. (I will re-iterate this when the campaign starts)
Edit: The intro might change slightly but not by much.
No starting magic stuff? I'm running this adventure right now as well, and I accidentally let some contraband slip through (e.g. a sun sword, for one)
Name: Mr Smith Jones Race: probably halfling Class: rogue; eventually multiclass into fighter for dueling if allowed Background: either folk hero or criminal, maybe soldier or noble Backstory: I was a gambler/magician at Las Vegas and a professional fencer for the past umpteen years with impeccable luck (and sometimes the complete opposite) until I was warped here into this D&D adventure

Name: Nicole Sparrow Race: Wood Elf Class: Druid Background: Sage Backstory: A young college professor working her way to tenure, Nicole was working her way to a biology PHD to increase her own education. In her own free time, she helped with the college's rooftop gardens, along with her own. She enjoyed going on runs with her dog, and fosters animals for local animal shelters so they can either be rehomed or returned to the wild. One morning, while getting ready to go out with her dog, a strange wave of nausea and light headedness. As she tried to get over to the sink for a glass of water, she felt her legs give out from under her. When she woke up, she was in the middle of a forest, wearing clothes she wasn't at all familiar with. Only when she got to her feet did she realize that everything, including her own body was different... foreign. She wasn't sure what had caused this, though it appeared that whatever had occurred have left her with some strange knowledge about concepts that were foreign to her.
After gathering up all the belongs she could find around her, trying out these new found abilities to see if she could come more familiar. Once that was done, she picks a direction and moves out, hoping to find more information about this land, and if there was any explanation for what happened to her.
Name: Justin Maxwell Race: Wood Elf Class: Monk Background: Soldier Backstory: Justin is a former United States Marine that served two tours of duty in Afghanistan. After his service was complete he pursued furthering his training and education in the martial arts and has recently opened his own dojo. Waking up in a strange new world with a very different body has caused an unforeseen complication in his business plan.
Name: Milton Bramwell Race: Variant Human or Lighfoot Halfling Class: Bard Background: Entertainer Backstory: Milton Bramwell was a small country artist trying to make it big in Nashville. Honestly, he’s not too bad, just nobody ever wants to listen to a guy named Milton sing. Anyway, just before a big performance, Milton began to get queasy and light headed. Despite this, he was determined as this could be his big break and all. Suddenly, very thing went black and the next thing Milton knew, he was in some random town, and had minor magical talents?!?! What was the place and how could Milton get back to his gig? Well who knows, but at least he had his guitar, and a certain country grit that was hard to find; he should be able to survive.
Name: Billy Jones Race: "Dragonborn"-Gold Class: Sorcerer-Draconic Bloodline Alignment: Chaotic Good Background: Inheritor Backstory: William Mongomery Jones, Billy, is the heir to the Jones fortune. Billy is 10 and has never known a day he didn't get what he wanted. Billy's parents always told him how special he is and how, one day, he will show the world. So, until that day, Billy spent his time playing video games, eating pizza, and taunting his best friend Milly, a girl he met at the playground. Now, that day seems to have come. After puking a couple of times and noticing he has gold-colored scales all over his body Billy believes his day has finally come. With a big stick he found and his Magic: the Gathering cards in his pocket, Billy is ready to show the world what this dragon-boy can do!

Name: Eve Race: Tiefling Class: Warlock (hexblade if you’ll allow it, otherwise fiend) Background: urchin or criminal Backstory: Something dark runs through Eve’s veins even now. And there’s a voice inside her head that wont leave her alone. She can pass for normal (just about) these days, but she has demons and a dark addiction. She’s been mostly clean now for almost a year. Holding down a steady job. But the last couple of days have been hard, and the demon has been slowly beckoning her back. This time the voice is different though. She just needs something to take the edge off. The voice is insistent... and far too loud! She feels dizzy. Something’s not right at all. She passes out...
Name: Galeryn Jargon (Gale) Race: Human Class: Ranger Background: Haunted One Backstory: Gale joined the National Guard to help keep the towns and region he grew up in safe from those who would unsettle the locals. The area he protected was remote and mountainous. Gale spent a lot of time in the guard learning the area and learning how to keep it safe. His training included how to live off of the land, hunt for what was needed, and support himself and his team with what little they could cary. His skills increased over the years. He'd traveled a bit, but it was the local area that he'd grown to love. He was close with his squad leader Darynn Everton and when Gale fell in love with a local girl, it was Darynn that he'd asked to be his best man. The wedding was in the planning and was all the talk of the local town when the attack came and she was taken. Never able to marry, and never able to think of another, revenge stayed on his mind.
Name: Doctor Morgan Wynn Race: Variant Human Class: Cleric (Knowledge Domain) Background: Guild Artisan (Alchemy) Backstory:
It had been a long and eventful life. Doctor Wynn, at 97, had been many things during his life. Combat surgeon in the Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (MASH), Pharmaceutical Researcher, General Practitioner, and Pediatrician. With his wife of 70 years passing away last year, though, Morgan had gone downhill. Still, getting to meet your twelfth great grandkid provided the capstone to a fulfilling life of serving and healing.
The medical transport from the nursing home to hospice was quiet and a bit sad, and Morgan knew his time was short in this world. He was weak, but this sickness was new. The whistle of the wind and the hum of the tires lulled him to sleep as he wondered what might be next in the life after this one...
Name:Gibson Lemonyellow Race: Tiefling Class: Warlock (Great Old One) Background: Charlatan Backstory: Gibson Lemonyellow ("Gib" to his friends) knew how the world worked. He didn't know any of that boring, mundane stuff like politics, infrastructure, logistics, technology... agriculture... math... cooking... programable tv remotes... No, he had a deeper, more spiritual understanding of the forces that were really at work. These amateurs and hacks running all the big religions you've heard of had some idea but they were really only scratching the surface. Only Gib held the true and full knowledge of the ancient entity which crept along the fringes of human consciousness. With his self-published paperback gospel in hand (it was really just 6 pages of double-spaced printer paper stapled at the corner), Gib moved from his native west Texas to the sunny shores of southern California to win the souls of our nation's most vulnerable: the affluent and complacent. He had moderate success among the latter but not so much with the former. This began causing a bit of strain in the compound he established to house all of his acolytes, funded by the worldly possessions they had willingly given up to free themselves of their Earthly shackles. Those funds were beginning to dry up. He needed to do something big and flashy (and fast) to attract those designer-wearing, sportscar-driving suckers... erm, "lost souls." One day it finally happened: one of the new recruits had a media connection and somehow got him on the late night circuit. First stop: Fallon. He just hoped the tittering nincompoop didn't start laughing in the middle of Gib's monolog and ruin everything like he always did on SNL. Once he arrived at the studio, and after much difficulty getting through security, he was shown to his dressing room. His stomach was upset but he chalked it up to nerves. It kept getting worse over the next hour, though, and he was having a hard time focusing. Once his vision grew blurry it dawned on him and Gib knew that the prophesied time was upon him much earlier than expected. He had hoped to have more time to prepare the world but it looked like the pin was already out of this particular grenade! He fell to his knees and looked up at the ceiling with arms outstretched and yelled, "I am yours, oh great old one! Take me into your arms... or tentacles... or chelae... Bring me into your loving embrace!" And then he collapsed.
His first thought upon waking was, " This doesn't look like the void..."

Backstory: Vandal is a bouncer at a country bar in a town miles from nowhere. It was a normal Saturday night, with usual knuckleheads causing trouble. While breaking up a fight, his vision began to blur. He was then hit hard, blacked out, and woke up in a strange new land...
Backstory: Damien is quite a capable thief. He prefers the silent way over a more agressive method and generally does his jobs unarmed and when he does he pick a non-lethal variant over a deadly one. On one of his runs he was discovered and on a daring escape he missteped and fell, knocking himself out upon impact. While out, he finds himself in a wild dream that feels wierdly real.

Name: Leareth Race: Half Elf Class: Warlock (fiend) Background: Urchin Backstory: He had always been interested in the forbidden magic, reading up on Crowley and other infamous magicians. The cult of Satan did not appeal to him - too religious, ironically. He wanted power, not to worship someone, but the spells described in the books he read did nothing. Falling asleep over one such volume, he saw himself transported to a different realm, where he could see clearly in the dark, had slightly pointed ears - and could set things on fire, finally!
