so as Penny asks Cinders to go into the house and rest, as well as not go upstairs.. for a moment you feel compelled to do as she asked, but the moment fades just as quickly and as you walk through the door you realize that his house is the house you and your siblings had investigated the other day. The same house where Herman the jerk butler was supposedly taking care of the sick Lady Hayes whose room he didnt let you enter upstairs... The same lady Hayes that your changeling brother discovered evidence is actually true sister of the original Silver Lady....
As you all enter the house, Penny bids you farewell and reassures you she Will be back in the morning before closing the front door and locking it behind her..
(OOC you may all level up, let me know if you are going to explore the house before you sleep or just grab a bite to eat and rest. Cinders has already explored this first floor once)
(I mean if noones gonna stop us...~ :D And woo! Finally got cleric 1! Would it be okay to ask if there are any particular languages likely to show up in the campaign?)
Penny sees one sad bird boy waving her goodbye as the front door closest behind her. If it throws him that she locked the door, the Kenku brushes it off to actually look around the immediate area, some of his fatigue disappearing in wake of burgeoning curiosity! He only after the fact does he glance at Cinder to see he'd keep his word. But seeing him distracted looking all thoughtful at the moment, and the other kids busy scrounging for a kitchen and food, a devilish gleam enters his eyes as he goes quietly looking for the upstairs...
as most the smaller children begin to lay down and find places to sleep after filling their bellies on food from the pantry, Rustler and Cinders both sneak up the stairs. At the top of the stairs there is a large ornate door that opens easily without a sound. as the door swings open, they are greeted by a beautiful hallway with two doors on either side and a larger more elaborately carved door at the end with a set of lit lanterns flanking it. there are also a couple beautiful paintings on the walls. one depicting a blond haired woman and her daughter. Cinders knows that the older woman in the picture is Lady Hayes based on information gathered the first time they are in the house. The other painting is of a younger Penny....
(OOC: No, you were at the top of the stairs and pushed through the doorway into the room with Father Bryon while Carmir was still downstairs. You don't know what happened to Carmir, Vignar, or Chirpee)
Rustler pauses at the painting long enough to try and reach up and touch it, if only for a brief moment. "Never forget where you came from." He whispers in a strange, but feminine accent never heard before by anyone from the orphanage. Without another word he continues on to the door on the left, checking first to see if its locked before quietly trying to peek his head inside for a look. If it meant going over to grab one of the lanterns to see he does so, only to return to try again with a better view.
As Rustler grabs one of the lanterns, he is surprised that there is no heat coming from it even though the flame appears to have been burning since at least when they arrived. Moving to the door he finds it unlocked. Inside He moves around a dark room consisting of a bed and a large wardrobe against the far wall. There is also a large window behind a set of thick curtains that are pulled shut. The Bed looks as though it has been used recently and the wardrobe is full of mens clothing. The kenku manages to find a few sets of silver robes and a dagger within the wardrobe.
Rustler blood starts to run cold seeing the robes. After a moment's pause he takes up the dagger, and creeps his way back out, closing the door quietly behind himself. He stands outside of it breathing erratically for a while and loosely holding himself with dagger in hand. If not startled back into reality by Cinder, the silvered Kenku eventually recovers from the freight. Though in place of wonder he looks about the place with eyes wide in trepidation.
Remembering the door on the opposite side, he cannot help but try and quietly take a peek inside there as well. Though this time as soon as he has the door even part way opens, a freed hand promptly rests on the hilt of it immediately after.

On the opposite side, The kenku finds that the door opens easily again. Opening to another bedroom. This one appears to be a bit more messy with womans clothing spread around a disheveled bed.. There is an open wardrobe with what appears to be parts of a city watch uniform as well as other common clothes and yet another silver robe. The silver robe is much more ornate than anything you have seen any of the other members of the cult wearing. There is also a small desk nearby with charts that seem to follow different phases of the moon and a map of what appears to be a complex set of tunnels.. After examining the map more closeley you realize that those were the mining tunnels you went through to get from your home to the church..
Though a Kenku, Rustler makes a point of studying the maps at length when an idea strikes him. If he can instead find some writing utensils about -- charcoal, ink, whatever -- and some spare paper, he starts copying down a condensed version of the maps and charts. They had until morning after all before Penny returned, so no worries...
Rustlers freezes, and looks about one last time, remembering the men's clothes he saw just earlier. When he finds noone except maybe Cinder sneaking up on him however, the silvered feather Kenku tries to get back to work. If he finds nothing to write with however, he'll just take the maps and charts, promising himself to return them later once their committed to memory.

Once satisfied one way or another, Rustler finally steps back out in the hall, closing up the scene of previous crime to look to the final door at the end. If Cinder hadn't already investigated by then, he tiptoes his way there, examining the door for any locks or traps.
Cinder continues to explore, realising that he is trouble. Taking in as much information as he can before heading back downstairs to his siblings.
OOC: I am thinking of having Cinders head to police and ask for the half orc officers and get him to send a trusted man to find Carmir. Would it be a fair assumption for Cinders to suggest that they check the house?
So as Rustler makes a beautiful copy of the map detailing the path from the church to their house, Cinders begins to worry. Heading back downstairs, he notices that his other siblings all appear to be sleeping or working to find a place to rest for the night. Making his way to the front door, Cinders turns the deadbolt to unlock the door that he was Penny lock as she leaves and tries to open it but the door doesn't budge.
(@Wreck: Meant to ask this sooner, but did Rustler find anything off about the carved door to signify it being locked or trapped?)

(OOC: Sorry, Rustler notices that many of the engravings depict different phases of the moon and different start constellations. The door does not appear to be locked or trapped.)
Rustler cannot help but reach out to trace what engravings were in easy reach, wholly fascinated by the design. For all his child wonder in the moment, when curiosity and determination sunk back in, the silvered feather Kenku set his sights on opening the door for a look inside with lantern in hand and raised high.

As the door is pushed open, it slides easily without a sound. In front of the young kenku is a large bed with a sleeping old elf resting under some white sheets. There are a few large large wardrobes and a large chest chest at the foot of her bed. There is also a large window on the opposide side of the room that is open just enough for a small breeze to blow the long sink curtains ever so slightly.
Make me a perception check Rustler.
(OOC: I want to apologize to Carmir... I had planned on it being morning / post long rest for everyone sooner than this but there is good stuff happening.. I have not forgotten about you :D)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(@all: I was indeed half-way tempted to just head to sleep and let come what may to hasten things along, but.. yeeaa. Without the charm working on Cinders, and everyone else around to tired to stop him.. Mwahahaha)
Rustler nearly panics seeing the elf. Realizing she's sleeping however, he keeps the lantern at chest level for his initial inspection of the room. At least something pops out to him aside from the chest at the foot of the bed. That one he'd take a closer look at. Eventually. Maybe.

As Rustler steps forward to move into the room, he takes a few steps before he notices a shimmer as he steps through a magical barrier of sorts. The door behind him swings shut and the room in front of him changes dramatically. The white sheets on the bed turn brown and black as the as the illusion disappears revealing a dead and decaying elvish corpse laying in the now disgusting bed. The smell of rotting flesh and stale air overwhelm the kenku. The furnature within the room changes as well, revealing scattered and torn clothing and broken knickknacks.
The stench becomes nearly overwhelming as the room begins to spin as the kenku falls to the ground unconscious.
