As the gang is departing for the inn, Kara lags behind to talk to Puck. "You asked why I wouldn't be off doing Ilmater's work, well, aside from the obvious answer that my lord's work can be found in all places... I'm here to settle something for a father I never knew. That manor I asked about, the Tresendar Manor... well, it belongs to my family."

(Zanigur will have told Barthen about finding a stash of Lionshield Coster trading goods, stolen by goblins, and that he’d be willing to discuss the details over breakfast tomorrow)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Zanigur approaches the proprietor of the Inn, Toblen Stonehill. His eyes are shining a friendly tone of bronze, which plays well with the fire in the hearth.
“My good man! I am Zanigur of Thundertree, musician of Neverwintan renown and storyteller extraordinaire. I noticed that you are in need of entertainment for the evening, and would very much like to enter into a partnership with your rustic establishment.
“Were I to perform for you and your patrons, it would soothe the aches and pains of a hard days’ work, and lift many a spirit. What would you say to room and board for the day, in exchange for an hour of performance?”
Puck watches Zanigur smooth-talk the proprietor, smiling with the respect of an athlete watching his teammate try a move from his own playbook and pulling it off with surprising ease and their own unique spin.
Toblen looks Zanigur over a moment and smiles as he nods. "Aye, I think we could make that arrangement work, Zanigur of Thundertree. Your trope plannin' on stickin' around for long? Mayhaps we could extend that invitation tomorrow as well? Might drive a little business this way if word gets around we got ourselves a bard performin'."
The little boy stares at the colorful company, smiling and giggling as Nene waves at him. When she asks him a question, he grins and takes a shy step forward, shrugging. "...are you a kitty?" he asks with the bold, audacity of ignorant youth.
Zanigur agrees, promising Stonehill that he would gladly perform tomorrow night.
He performs with his lyre, some song and some story, though there are scarce few customers in the place. He puts a considerable amount of energy into the performance, and at the end thanks Stonehill and goes to bed.
"I'm an extra cool kitty, a tabaxi! Have you met any before?" Nene says proudly. She listens to Zanigur's music along with the kid. "Do you like living in an inn? You must hear so many stories from travellers!" Nene smiles and folds down her ears, imagining how nice it must be to grow up like this.
The little boy stares at Nene and Puck when she answers and giggles. "It's fun, but I have to help my da sometimes when it gets busy. I love the stories though. Thems my favorite!"
The group listen to the music of Zanigur as the fires die down and the small crowd eventually departs with smiles upon their faces and promises to spread the word of Zanigur's performance. Stonehill thanks Zanigur and promises a better fare for their next dinner if he is able to help fill the common room the following evening. The night is filled with simple bath basins, but a promise that tomorrow will bring better. The beds are clean and comfortable compared to the ground that you have been sleeping upon during your journey from Neverwinter to Phandalin. Eventually sleep finds you all, some a bit more restless than others perhaps as the aches and pains of the day settle in...
Eventually the dawn breaks to the raucous cries of an irritating roster just outside your opened windows, crowing as if it was his mission to waken the dead from their earthen beds. Even so, the smells wafting into your rooms speaks of bacon and something else... a little sweeter perhaps?
Kara does her regular morning ritual of cleaning her armor and praying to Ilmater before donning her gear. She catches wind of the bacon smell and nearly succumbs to the urge to eat it before she remembers herself and heads downstairs. That sweet smell piques her interest!

Grimm, feeling much better after having getting cleaned up and having a proper rest the evening before, tags along with fellow early riser Zanigur. She comments, "I was always ready for the day before the daily Reveille."
She suggests he use those charms of his to find out the local gossip and new, particularly about this Black Spider character.

She suggests he use those charms of his to find out the local gossip and new, particularly about this Black Spider character.
"Charms?” Zanigur demurs, looking mildly affronted. “My dear Grimm, I don’t use any charms—I’m really just an incredibly reasonable person.“
Zanigur will try and find someone out on the street to ask about the local gossip.
Nene is used to getting up at first light, it had always been her first job of the day to feed her mother's chickens. She stretches and heads downstairs where she grabs an early breakfast, joining Zanigur and Grimm. They say they want to take a look around and Nene is keen to see a new place. "That was some great music last night, Zanigur!"
Before they leave, Nene tries to see if she can spot the child from last night.
Zanigur welcomes the company. "Two beautiful ladies; what more could a fellow want on a morning stroll!"
He will go up through the center of town, taking a passing glance at whatever the stone feature there is (look like a BBQ pit or an altar or something?), and then will continue to the grove of trees up in the northwest corner. It looks fairly well kept, so if it's private property, he won't trespass.
Depending on the time allowed, he will also scope out the woods at the bottom of the hill, south of the big ruined building (is that Tresendar Manor that Kara and Sildar were talking about?). Looking for someplace private to come back to and write some songs, should the possibility arise.
The party waits for some time in the morning for Sildar and inquires with Toblen to find that he left the Inn before sunrise with a promise to return and speak with the party upon his return. After a delicious breakfast of crispy bacon and these interesting concoctions of flour cakes cooked in a pan and smothered with butter and maple syrup... Nene notices the young boy watching her again with a silly smile as he helps Toblen and his wife bring food and plates to the hungry adventurers. The little boy, whose name you learn to be Pip, sticks around and looks like he wants to touch Nene's fur...

Toblen and his wife, you learn her name is Trilena, both seem a little despondent this morning and not quite as jovial as the night prior. You are not quite sure what it is, but something has dampened their spirits.
Grimm places a hand on Zanigur's shoulder saying, "Before we leave, Toblen and his wife seem a little despondent. Let's see what's the matter before exploring. Should only take a moment and given how you played last night... Yes, I heard from my room... I'm sure you'll bring a smile to the pair."
Grimm approaches Trilena and Toblen, saying, "I cannot help but notice that you seem a little... despirted... despite last night's successful evening. Is everything all right?"
Toblen and Trilena share a look before Toblen nods and glances to their boy. She puts her hand on their son’s shoulders and starts to steer him towards the back room. “Pip, dear, can you please help your mommy with getting something heavy out of the larder? My knee is bothering me today.”
Pip looks at her leg with a frown, then brightens. “Of course! I hope it’s not hurtin’ too bad, mama!”
After the pair are gone, Toblen let’s out a weary sigh. “Look, I don’t want to bother ya’ll none, it’s local problems, but I feel ye should be aware of it. There’s a group of brigands that call themselves the Redbrands. They moved into the old Manor sometime ago and were just a general nuisance, but then they started takin’ over the town. Forcin’ folk to pay ‘protection fees’ and whatnot. Ain’t no one around here tough enough yet to stand up to them... except Thel...A tenday ago, couple of them was leering at Thel’s wife. He told ‘em what-for... and... they stabbed him in broad daylight! They dragged him off like he was nothin’. Well, now as of this mornin’ Thel’s family is missin’; wife, boy, and girl. Gone. Them bastards took ‘em, I know it. So, just... be careful. I reckon they’ll hear about you all takin’ care of the goblins and not be too happy about that.”
“Brigands!” Says Zanigur, excitedly. A little too excited, it seems. Forgotten for the moment is his outdoor jaunt; his full attention is now on Toblen. He corrects his tone to sound a bit more sober and serious. “You say there is a gang of murderers on the loose? And that they would they be unhappy about the goblins being defeated? Why is this, pray tell?”
Nene was about to head out the door, but she cannot resist the smell of those sweet pan-cooked cakes. As she sits down to eat some, she notices the little boy from last night and waves at him.
(Before Grimm talks to the parents.)
He introduces himself as Pip, but while chatting with him, Nene sees how his parents whisper in the background. They seem worried, not about their guests, but... something else. Children and fools always speak the truth, mama used to say. She offers Pip some of her pancake and asks him: "So you're the innkeeper's son, that makes you a town expert, right? What does a tabaxi like me need to know about this place? I'm sure you know all the secrets!" She gives him a conspiratorial smile, like they are two detectives exchanging notes, or perhaps two thieves, impossible to say.
As the gang is departing for the inn, Kara lags behind to talk to Puck. "You asked why I wouldn't be off doing Ilmater's work, well, aside from the obvious answer that my lord's work can be found in all places... I'm here to settle something for a father I never knew.
