As the group sets off into the swamp Pheara ranges ahead quickly, looking for any signs of landmarks or other features that indicate they are on the right track according to the map they received from the friendly scaled ones. She moves around on all fours a lot, sniffing the ground at certain spots as she goes, occasionally stopping to examine something in more detail. Sometimes she disappears into the foliage for a few minutes without a word as the group carries on before reappearing at the side from an unexpected angle.
With Tusks help in translating the map she is confident in the trail that she picks out, at one point picking up the scent of the dirty snake bloods and hisses at the taste of the disgusting odour. She waits for the others to catch up and turns to the group as they approach before saying "Snake bloods be here before" before once more she ranges off into the swamp continuing along the trail.
"We need to figure out a way to get those belly-draggers' attentions without raising suspicion of our true reasons. Easier said than done..." Saprys says, thinking out loud.
The yuan-ti encampment would reveal a number of things about the progressing Army of Darkness' plans. First, the use of Slave Crystals to produce servants controlled using magic. These servants would be incredibly intelligent, flexible, and look just like the races of the Army of Light, as they are kidnapped members of those races. The yuan-ti were developing a way to alter their forms to match the other races, allowing the pureblood forms to better infiltrate the nations. Second, the cultivation of a Black Dragon Egg, which was undergoing a series of rituals to alter its form and strength using the lizardfolk eggs previously mentioned. Third, the Swamp Flu would be discovered to be part of the ritual to alter the black dragon egg, as the egg polluted the water around the camp. Scaled creatures had
Once alarm is sounded in the camp, a number of weaker yuan-ti guards accompanied by minions controlled by slave crystals would head out to meet the intruders. The stronger yuan-ti would flock to the black dragon egg, leaving a few moderately strong guards near the lizardfolk eggs. If the party appeared to be breaking through the lines, the stronger yuan-ti would split into two groups, one to hold off the party and one to run the egg away. If the party managed to collect the egg, there was a 10% chance it would begin to hatch, and subsequently bond with one of the party members (animal handling check based). The dragon would grow at an astonishing rate, but its mental development would be the same. Along with physical growth, the dragon's appetite would increase proportionally, though certain physical deformities (weaker scales, potential inability to use a breath weapon) would manifest themselves and become more obvious. If the egg did not hatch and the party brought it back, it would be sent back to the capital to be studied. If they left it, the egg might be retrieved by the yuan-ti, or it might be destroyed, or the dragon may survive the swamp and become a problem for later.
Tusk, being a ranger of this place, happily Helps Pheara guide through.
