As they emerge from the forest into the opening with the ruined building stands Ruggero hangs back just a bit, his legs tired from all the walking, and his lungs still scarred from the smoke and fire. "Oh my, what a beautiful building they left to crumble here. And such intrinsic mason work. Damn shame, I must say," Ruggero says.
Ruggero follows his groups lead as they investigate the space, but when the snake rears her head out of the cesspool he jumps back ready to strike, only to see that his fellow companions play it smart and avoid poking the serpent to be enraged.
At the door Ruggero stays near Kevlin and allows the other two to investigate.

Since I already rolled Investigation on the building, I'll roll Perception.
Zakon nods in agreement with Kelvin. "Let's approach carefully - mayhaps there are traps or some other hidden danger," he says. He approaches the door carefully, alert for any traps. This place gives me the creeps, he thought with a shudder. He treads lightly and cautiously, the adrenaline rush setting all his senses on overdrive. He sniffs the air, eyes darting back and forth, trying to watch everything at once, including Viaya.
Ouch, so ends the lucky streak, I guess. Well, that is the nature of random rolls.
Carefully bypassing the snake, it seems content to leave you all alone, and continues sunning on the edge of the fountain. Meanwhile, Viaya and Zakon examine the door. It has another carved starburst on the upper half of the door. Given the shape of the building and the frequent use of the motif to Corellon, this building was probably an old temple at one point in time. Below the starburst is an inscription written in the common tongue:
Danger! Entry Forbidden! All hail the New Morning!"
Other than that, there is nothing remarkable about the door. Looking at it's iron handle, it appears that the door is still locked, but the lock is probably long rusted. It wouldn't take much to just break the door down.
Viaya and Talos, if you could make a religion check, that would be helpful. Anyone who's going to volunteer to break the door down, you will need a strength check.

Ruggeroreads the inscription, his mouth moving with each word. "All hail the New Morning? What do we supposed that could mean, eh?"Ruggerosays. He shifts his weight and sizes up the door. He looks over at his new elven friend. "Should we try to break her down? I don't want to be rushen' into anything without some back-up."
Kelvin stalks around the front of the building, seeing if there's any windows or gaps in the house's decrepit facade he can see through. He pulls a dagger out of it's sheath just in case.

The Good Morning? Good morning...good morning...I wonder if I've heard that somewhere...

One player's bad luck seems to have become another player's good fortune at least. XD
Thankfully, the inscription on what is now an apparently locked door is written in common. Viaya'sbrow furrowing as she reads it out loud. Seems promising. Though how the boy would've gotten into a locked building with a rusty but solid looking lock is beyond her. Regardless, going inside is the next logical step. The elf stepping back and gesturing for Zakon to follow suit as Theoand Ruggeromove closer. The dwarf asking after what they think the inscription means and whether they should attempt to knock the door down.
"That's the only way I see us getting in there." She nods distractedly, searching her memory for some knowledge of why the saying at the end of the inscription sounds so familiar as Kelvin too steps forward to study it. As frustrated by her inability to pinpoint it as she was by the stars. "The lock is rusted. Care to do the honors?"
Zakon waits, hand on his dagger, ready to react when Ruggero busts down the door. It does seem impossible that whatever ails the boy is inside, since the building looks undisturbed. However, the warning on the door seems odd. Zakon has no idea what it means, but it doesn't sound like anything good is to be found behind this door.

Upon hearing Viaya's request and watching Zakon and Kelvin prepare for what might be lurking inside, Ruggero takes a step back from the door. "All right, let's just hope ol' Ruggero here doesn't make a grand fool of himself,"he says with a little chuckle and then using his right leg he kicks at the door hoping to break it open.
Very good observation about the locked door, Viaya. Too bad the perception check didn't end well enough to solve that mystery.
Kelvin, it was technically supposed to be a religion check to understand the meaning of the New Morning, but a nat 20 is something that still needs to be rewarded. I'll meet you halfway on that and give you some information. Don't worry, there's still plenty of time for exploration to find more clues.
So, I take it we're waiting on Ruggero to handle the door? Fine by me. Even with a rusty lock, a 3 just ain't going to do it. Sorry, Theo!
Kelvin: Looking through the mildew covered windows, you can faintly see the inside of the entrance hall, which is empty and coated in a layer of dust. You go back to look at the inscription on the door, and the final phrase does ring a bell. It's hard to know for sure, since elves have always been a bit secretive about their religious rites, but you have read about the New Morning somewhere. It's an old prophecy that a few small religious sects subscribed to years ago. Though, whether it is an apocalyptic prophecy or a hopeful one is unclear. Your history texts only tell you that such beliefs existed, but not what sort of rituals and rites went with such beliefs.
Oh, for God's sake! Okay, so Theo and Ruggero have tried the door. Anyone else want to take a crack at it?

Zakon, frustrated at the amount of time this is taking, sighs heavily. “I suppose I can try, though I’m better at picking the locks on doors than I am at busting through them,” he says.
Strength: 2
He takes a bit of a run at the door, hitting it with his shoulder.
Despite Theo and Ruggero's mighty efforts, they are unable to get the door to budge. Zakon, despite his smaller stature, is able to knock the door down. Hm, perhaps his two travel companions had helped loosen the rusty lock.
The door falls open into a large dusty entrance hall. A wooden staircase with a polished banister curves upwards around the room. In the gloom of the ceiling above the center of the room is a golden chandelier that glints in the dim light filtering in from the outside. Otherwise, the abandoned temple is in complete darkness aside from the natural lighting. Passages lead from the chamber to the north, east, and west.
Alright, so on our grid, the front hall takes up a square area from E5 to E10 to H10 to H5 on the map (in retrospect, I should have made these much bigger than the maps the campaign gave me). Anyway, the door to the east leads to the veranda outside. The north door leads to a hallway. And the west door leads to the scriptorium.
Everyone must make a perception check before we can go any further, or face dire consequences... Kelvin and Theo, as magic users, you can choose either arcana or perception.

Fair enough. Looks like Zakon and Viaya are doing my perception/investigation checks. I’ll wait for both of their results.
