A spell's components are the physical requirements you must meet in order to cast it. Each spell's description indicates whether it requires verbal (V), somatic (S), or material (M) components. If you can't provide one or more of a spell's components, you are unable to cast the spell.
"If you can't provide one or more of a spell's components, you are unable to cast the spell." This would mean if you cannot provide all of the requirements you are unable to cast the spell. Most spell casting classes have the ability to chose a Spellcasting Focus or a Component Pouch. These remove the requirement for basic materials when casting a spell. The only time you would still need the material than would be if it has a price associated with the material. ("A simple diamond worth 50gp") Not sure how it works for bards but I was able to chose to have my Holy Symbol in my shield be a Spellcasting Focus allowing me to not worry about materials with no cost associated.
Spellcasting Focus
You can use a musical instrument (see chapter 5, “Equipment”) as a spellcasting focus for your bard spells.
As a bard your musical instrument counts as a Spellcasting focus. (I believe the idea is that you don't case spells normally. You play a musical melody that then acts as the spell.) So you do not have to worry about any components that do not have a direct value associated with them.
For reference here is where the components information is: Chapter 10: Spellcasting: Components
OOC: Certain spells require Material to use. Can I assume I have that material or do I have to find it? For example, I need wychwood or glowworm for my Dancing Lights spell.
[OOC: It is my understanding that you can cast the spell as long as you can provide ONE of the components needed. Dancing lights is a spell that can be used with Verbal, Gesture or Material, so as long as you can speak or gesture, you don't NEED a material. A spell's components are the physical requirements you must meet in order to cast it. Each spell's description indicates whether it requires verbal (V), somatic (S), or material (M) components. If you can't provide one or more of a spell's components, you are unable to cast the spell.]
[OOC: I think I understood that wrong. Someone correct me?]
OOC: rules as written requires all components listed, DM may have other preferences, I have found that tracking those things is quite tedious much like tracking ammunition. Kyleh may say otherwise but I would think if he doesn't want to track amunition, he probably doesn't want to track spell components.

Pops
"If you want to take another short break, I won't be more than an hour. If you want to get started, just give me a head start. I can't be stealthy and fast at the same time, so take your time."
Pops quietly heads up the path, ahead of the group. Stealth: 17 He actively scans his surroundings for movement, or anything artificial - evidence of branching trails, habitations, or non-natural artifacts. Perception: 19
Sven hesitates for a moment then says "Maybe we should follow but stay back a distance? Say a couple hundred feet to give you space to work but allow us to help if you get into trouble."
Brats places an arm in front of Ny and goes in front of her. "I will go before you, we need to keep you safe so that you can keep us safe. Chances are if they make it to you, there won't be much we can do!" Brats says with a chuckle. "In the meantime, let me see what I can discern from these tracks." Brats moves over to the goblin tracks, gets down low and inspects them.
[OOC: Survival Check: 17 Additional 2 to this because I believe Natural Explorer applies here, making it 19. Natural Explorer Benefit: While tracking other creatures, you also learn their exact number, their sizes, and how long ago they passed through the area.]
The trail is hidden behind thickets on the north side of the road leads northwest. Brats can recognize that about a dozen goblins have come and gone along the trail, as well as signs of two human-sized bodies being hauled away from the ambush site. (And yes, natural explorer is in effect with this.)
Petros falls in line behind Nyana. Not having to pay too much attention to what is in front of him, Petros allows his mind to wander. He begins to hum a tune he recently heard performed by Sir Chadwick Kroeger from the far side of the Nickel province. Those songs always seem to find a way inside of poor Petros' head. Humming he scans either side of the trail for anything of interest.
OOC: Certain spells require Material to use. Can I assume I have that material or do I have to find it? For example, I need wychwood or glowworm for my Dancing Lights spell.
Your musical instrument will act as an arcane focus. An arcane focus takes the place of any components needed to cast a spell. Everyone that can cast magic should have started with some sort of focus to replace the components of spells.
[OOC: For the next minute (Not sure how that works out of combat. DM will have to clarify) you can roll an extra 1d4 with an ability check. You can do this after you have already rolled to help boost a bad roll or before if you wanna try and guarantee a good roll.)]
I'll just guestimate on the time. I'm pretty lenient with that.

About 10 minutes after heading down the trail, Pops on the path encounters a hidden snare. Another 10 minutes down the trail is a pit the goblins have camouflaged. The pit is 6 feet wide, 10 feet deep, and it triggers when a creature moves across it. Following the goblins' trail, you come across a large cave in a hillside five miles from the scene of the ambush. A shallow stream flows out of the cave mouth, which is screened by dense briar thickets. A narrow dry path leads into the cave on the right-hand side of the stream.
(OOC: I presume they've followed Sven's advice and followed me from a distance, and with some trap warnings from Pops? Five miles must have taken awhile. How much daylight do we have left?)

Yeah. Your group is behind you. It’s taken a few hours (probably 3, slower than normal because of the traps) to make it this far. Judging by the sun, you all have about 5 hours of daylight left.
After getting a sense of the trail he informs the group. "Sven, Ny, Petros... From what I can gather from the trail, there has been quite a bit of movement. I'm sensing about 12 or so goblins have crossed this path. I'll inform Pops when we see him." A worried mindset overcomes him but he is careful not to show it. "Counting the 4 goblins we just killed, that leaves about 8 left. I also picked up on drag marks, left behind by 2 human sized creatures. That could possibly be our missing companions?"
[OOC: I would like to search along the trail for any items that might of been dropped by the dragged bodies.]

Pops returns to the rest of the group after getting a careful look at the cave and stream from a safe distance. He describes the scene with as much detail as he can recall."We need another good plan."
As Pops returns Brats explains what he gathered from the trail. "Pops, I'm glad you're here, and based on what you have seen, we have a rough fight ahead of us. There are probably at least 8 goblins in that cave and from the drag marks, there are 2 people inside there. What are we going to do guys?"

Sven
Sven looks concerned "8 goblins is for sure a threat. Hopefully we can separate them out. If we don't deal with them all at once then we should be able to take them. You said there is a cave, does it appear to be guarded? The briar thicket you described sounds ideal to be waiting in ambush. Ny you're not wrong, we should be very careful. If we do encounter them and they are not in full force then we should certainly make sure that none escape as they will surely bring reinforcements!" If we head up, as we get close to the cave entrance Sven tries to get a better view without calling to much attention to himself.
"It's a rare cave home which doesn't have a back door. I'd also like to circle around and get some high ground. Maybe we can lure 'em out and ambush the ambushers."
(OCC: How steep is the hillside? Would we have a visual advantage from above/behind?)
"We do maintain the element of surprise. I agree with Pops. We need to somehow draw out a couple of Goblins without alerting the lot of them. I would assume they are expecting the return of the group we dispatched earlier. Does anyone know if Goblins use any 'distress' signal? If we can mimic such a call surely a few goblins would investigate. Maybe we would get lucky and they would all go, leaving the cave unguarded."
Brats clears his throat to get everyone's attention. "I can mimic a loud Goblin scream (Minor Illusion). That should surely draw them out, and when I do, we can ambush them."
