Kirinar looks around the room to investigate the statue and the carvings. Maybe they missed something. He also examines the stone that he collected from the statue to see if there is anything written on it or if there is some clue...
Kirinar and Ransyl are able to lift the portcullis up enough to allow Dr A inside. There you are able to rest safely and an hour later you feel refreshed and ready to continue. As you sit quietly you hear an occasional roar and screech from somewhere in the city. The city is not completely dead.
(Short rest)
Its getting later in the day though there are still a few hours of daylight left.
Lifting the portcullis up again you can then leave the shrine.
A ruined amphitheater looms over the surrounding buildings. Vines cling to its steps, and animal statues line its stands. The muddy ground outside is stripped clean of vegetation. An eerie silence hangs over the area. No birds cry, no insects chirp, nothing stirs.
As you approach the amphitheater, you can’t fail to notice giant clawed footprints in the mud. From toe to heel, each footprint spans over 5 feet. Closer to the ruin, you find long, slender feathers in scarlet, orange, and green hues, and heaps of dung large enough to bury a dwarf.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Dr A examines several of the feathers, pokes a finger into the dung, lifts it up and smells it. Can he determine (Survival roll = 8) what might have deposited the dung and how long ago?

Dr A does the unthinkable and sticks his literal finger into a pile of dung taller than Ransyl. No sticking a dagger in and bringing it to his nose. He just stuck his finger in.
Eww, gross
The dung is fairly fresh and was likely deposited sometime within the last couple of hours.
Dr A waves his finger around "ahbut you young ones will never be scientists if you're not prepared to get a bit dirty. Worse than those stuck-up academics back in Candlekeep!" Does he have any idea what might have been the origin of the dung?

"As much as my curiosity is piqued, I have to agree with Ransyl and Timber," Keyleth says. "Unless there's some sort of hidden door that might reveal another one of those cubes, we should probably keep moving. This does not look like a creature we want to run into if we can help it."
She will spend a couple of minutes looking around the area and the stone structure for any sign of an entrance, perhaps to an underground chamber.
Investigation: 26
OoC: Not sure if it makes any difference to the amount of time it takes to investigate the area (since it does seem like time is of the essence here with whatever made the huge dung pile potentially about to return), but Keyleth can make Investigation checks as a bonus action due to her subclass feature "Eye for Detail". I guess she could circulate the area at a dash pace using regular actions and be investigating using bonus actions? I've gotta say I can't remember a time when I've made an investigation check when under an initiative order.
Dr A is probably happily reading and transcribing the hieroglyphs.

(OOC - do we see a way to get out? To open the gate/bars?)
Looking around you don't see any wheels, switches or mechanisms that would activate the portcullis.

Love God. Love Others. Any Questions?
Looking at the bars you wonder if you could lift them.
Ransyl comes up beside Kirinar, “I bet we could lift this if we both worked together.” Ransyl attempts to help Kirinar lift the gate.
"Worth a shot!" he replies. The two fighters brace themselves, grab the bars, and give a mighty heave!

Hp roll - 9
One more - 4
Once everyone has finished their rest, Keyleth once again assumes the role of urban navigator.
"Shall we continue west toward that amphitheater over there, then head south along the perimeter?"

“Yes Keyleth, I agree. I like this approach.”
“Sounds good to me!” Dr A agrees.

Ransyl surveys the area and whispers, “I don’t think we want to be here when this thing gets back.”
He scans the sky for a large winged animal.
Timber just screws his face at Doc's examination. "I agree, lets keep moving!"
