Erric will drop his sounding line back into the water as Jambiya gets in and prepares to swim down, recommending she tie the end of he rope to her ankle or around her waist so they could pull her back up if she doesn't come up within a minute, and that she could climb back up if thin she get weird.
@Erric: On the ship, no. Swimming down, yes. If Jambiya goes alone, she can make a perception check each "round". If one or more go with her, she can roll with advantage.
@Maldorn: If your reference to the old post was directed at me, I responded with this: "Erric, you swim down to the hole, but from inside the boat, you can't see as far as Jambiya; it's too dark. You'd have to swim through the hole and deeper to see what she's described. Maldorn, this applies to you as well." And now I see it doesn't really respond to you. It's like I didn't post what I meant to. From the water's edge, the light doesn't "go out of the hole" because of the angle. It helps those in the boat to see in the water, but the hole is located such that the light just makes the hole easier to see, but doesn't light the ocean floor below. And Maldorn can't see through the hole from where he is outside of the water.
As Jambiya prepares to go under, she hears a bit of splashing behind her and turns to see Ebokk entering the water as well. "I'd like to accompany you if I may," the dwarf says.
Before she can answer, Erric drops the rope he borrowed from Anafrey back into the water, recommending Jambiya tie the end of the rope to her ankle or around her waist so she can be pulled up if she doesn't come up within a minute, or that she could climb back up if things get weird. Ebokk agrees with the bard, encouraging Jambiya to do so, even going so far as taking the end of the rope and offering it to her.
"Um, of course, Master Ebokk, but I fear getting tangled in the rope, how about I just keep it near me, and tug and hold on if I need pulling?" She treads water while making sure this is acceptable. Then, with a nod to Ebokk for his Help, she dives.

Ebokk sticks the mouth of the empty waterskin he borrowed from Erric into his mouth (after watching Jambiya do the same), and goes underwater as the little goblin girls does.
The first six seconds, Jambiya swims 15 feet down, and Ebokk swims 10 feet down.
DM rollz: 5
The second six seconds, Jambiya swims down another 15 feet (30 total), and her lungs are burning (she has not started using her makeshift air bladder yet; she will begin doing so the next "round"). Ebokk is a slower swimmer. He swims another 10 feet (20 total).
Jambiya, even though Ebokk is behind you, you may begin rolling perception checks with advantage the third round as you progress another 15 feet lower. At 30 feet, you're still too far away to see anything.
Yes, Erric, you measured 35 feet with your makeshift depth finder. And the water is fairly clear. Not all good ideas have perfect results.

Jambiya, the third six seconds, you give in to your lungs as you continue swimming lower, breathing in some of the air contained within the waterskin. It feels wonderful to be breathing again, no matter how weird it is to be constricted to the mouth of the makeshift air bladder. You try to calm your breathing down, but your lungs are still nervous about running out of air and are gulping in the air. You swim another 15 feet lower, your eyes finally making out the sandy (and rocky) floor. Almost immediately, you spot a bundle half covered in sand below you. Inspecting it, you think it is cargo of some kind contained in a sack.
Ebokk is still swimming downward. Jambiya is now at 45 feet (the bottom) and Ebokk is at 30.
Jambiya will try to grab it and lift it, and swim upwards towards Ebokk. If she can't lift it, she'll point to it in case Ebokk has more air, and then swim for the surface.

How much of this can Erric and the others see from the surface? And can we see if they have been fairly close to the rope Erric's dangling near them, or if they're still ignoring it? Any tugs on it he can feel?
Anafrey will continue to hold the torches, but begin waving them back and forth a little faster as more and more times goes by. "What is taking so long.... " she would mumble aloud as she goes to grab her flask but realizes that both her hands are full holding torches.
Erric looks at Anafrey, wondering why she brought torches from inside the ship to wave them around the upper deck in broad daylight and suggests she douse them, put them aside, and stand ready to potentially help rescue Jambiya and Ebokk.
(OOC: Damn it my phone didn't update before I posted ::P)
(OOC: So I now see additional posts but I didn't see where we were no longer down in the boat exploring the water down in the hole.. I thought we were in the partially submerged boat and a couple of us were swimming around in a hold in the bottom of the submerged part but I guess I might just be confused as to when we started searching from a different part of the boat.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
OOC: I need to retcon. I misread the rules. Jambiya is still holding her breath, not yet needing to use her makeshift air bladder.
Erric, you look down into the water and, even though the water is fairly clear, Jambiya and Ebokk have swum so deep, they have become dark shapes on a dark background.
The next six seconds (only 24 seconds since she went below), Jambiya pulls on the bundle and begins swimming upward, but the weight keeps her from getting very far (only five feet). But Ebokk, who has continued to follow her down, meets her and sees she's attempting to swim back up with something. He grabs hold to help her swim up with it.
The next six seconds, between the two, they swim up another 10 feet.
The next six seconds, they swim up another 10 feet.
The next six seconds, as they continue to attempt to bring whatever it is that Jambiya found on the bottom of the sea to the surface, three sharks attack!
DM rollz: 1=Jambiya, 2=Ebokk: 111; 7918
The first bumps up against Jambiya, alerting the pair to the danger. The second seems to come out of nowhere, biting the little goblin girl's leg. (7 piercing damage — you can use your reaction to attempt to hit either of those sharks if you wish). Ebokk sees a third shark coming his direction, and he kicks at it, knocking it away. He kicks his other foot in an attempt to hurt it as it swims by. (Unarmed strike: 17) He got a good kick in, seeming to hurt the shark a little.
What do you want to do, Jambiya? Yes, I will allow you to hold onto the bundle with one hand while you use the other to do something if you want to do that.
Those looking into the water can see dark shapes moving around, but have no idea what's going on (they are 20 feet deep), and it's only been 36 seconds.
If Erric can see more dark shapes moving around than he saw before, he'll try to shove the end of the rope at Maldorn to hold, and dive in to see what else is down there with them. He'll then cast minor illusion to create a loud sound of what he imagines a scary leviathan sea monster to sound like, but that actually likely sounds like something more like a whale. Hope is to scare the other scary things away. The spell has no verbal component so he'd be casting underwater.
If Erric just sees the two shapes he saw before, and nothing additional, he'll turn to Anafrey and say, "I wonder what people with normal jobs do when they're bored."

OOC > Man, so many poor decisions, like not tying the rope around herself...
Jambiya feels the first shark bump her and she whirls about to look, then the second shark gashes her with a serious chomp! In pain and bleeding into the water, she flails for the rope, hoping it is nearby, to grab it and tug desperately, while trying to hold on to her prize.
Here's an Acrobatics roll, perhaps to grab the rope? 16 Here's an Athletics roll, to hold on to the rope (and/or her bundle?) if she does grab it. 14
Edit: Well, at least they'll know someone tugged on the rope when they haul it up with nothing on it? :)
