"Um," Taran blinks thinking back, "This morning... somewhere around 9th or 10th bell. I was not paying very much attention to be honest. And my name is Taran, I might have forgotten to tell the doctor that when I came in."
The doctor nods. "Go get some rest, you're no use if you wear yourself out," she says bluntly as she writes something on her sheet. "Come back tomorrow if you want to keep helping."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Oh..." Taran says, "I do not know if I will be able to, but I will endeavor to return if our time here allows." Finding a towel and some water, he would wipe the blood and other fluids off of his new armor.
Exiting the medical ward Taran would feel a stutter in his step, going from the high energy world of the hospital to the more chaotic and uncertain world at large. He figured it was around 18th or 19th bell, and there was still so much to do. He had skipped his training session yesterday, caught up in the allure of alchemy. And he still needed to replace the reagents he had lost in his failed attempt.
Deciding on a course of action, asked around for where the tunnels were more natural, and determined to spend two hours searching the natural caves for reagents he could use, then he would head to the training areas available to members of the road. Hopefully, since it would be 20th bell, most people would have left and he wouldn't disturb anyone's training with his pathetic attempts.
Taran is stunned by the miraculous find, for the second time in a week he'd found an Ephedra plant, it nearly denied explanation. However, it wasn't what he was hoping to find, and he just couldn't find the joy he had found on the way here.
He entered the training area a little past 20th bell, and set up a target 200 ft away, and tried to fall away from the problems he was facing by striking it in the bulls-eye.
Assuming no one interrupted him, he would follow that with an hour of katas with sword, dagger, and both at the same time. Thinking back on how Lanan had moved and picturing him as his opponent and maneuvering past his lightning hammerblows that could have killed him at any moment.
For all the curious bunnies here's Part I what Vishal has been up to before the prank:
Having been escorted to his rooom Vishal the time to take off his armor and properly clean and polish it. Afterwards he gets dressed in his normal everyday attire which include thigh high black leather boots, white pants, a black button up shirt where he leaves the first few buttons undone and has the sleeves rolled up, and then a white coat over top of all that which also has their sleeves rolled up. Around his waist is a black leather belt that has a couple pouches for personal items he always keeps on him such as his gold and a holders for his charkrams. It is then that he recieves the message that the refugees are free and roaming about. Glad to hear it Vishal takes off in search of Dulamul. (Survival: 9)
Nearly twenty minutes of wandering tunnels laters Vishal finally tracks Dulamul down, sitting forlornly by one of the underground pools. Vishal slowly walks towds the shifter, making his presence known, as he quietly asks, "Do you mind if I sit here?" Not turning in Vishal's direction Dulamul says aloud, "I guess not." Sitting next to him and taking off his shoes Vishal puts his feet in the water and lets silence fall between them. Just sitting there for a while Vishal eventually says "I want to apologize." Dulamul pulls his legs to his chest and says, "What for? You were right, after all. I spent my entire life seving, aspiring to be creatures that were really altavar all along." Vishal has a frown as he sees the obviously distraught shifter. The usual pep not in his voice he says, “It wasn’t my place to tell you. Especially not when you were putting so much faith in me. Opening up to me and trusting in me. But.....I’m more sorry for getting mad at you. For yelling at you. For failing to see things how you do. I just....assumed because you were coming here it was because you knew or you were unhappy. That this was a decision you made because you wanted to. Not because you didn’t have any other options. And this was my very first mission. And I was determined to be your saving angel. Your hero. And was trying to force that on you. And when you fought back I got angry. So.....I’m sorry.”
Dulamul sighs. "What do you really know about Riedra? Beyond the Inspired being...evil." He forces the word out. "What do you know about what our lives were like?"His voice not taking on an accustory tone. Thinking about Thinking about it for a moment Vishal responds with, “I really only know what we’re taught. That you have a strict caste system. Meaning that some of you can get treated like dirt and others like kings based on birth. Everything is chosen for you. Job, who you love, where you live, everything. Lots of psychic manipulation and silent crackdowns on anyone who opposes.” Dulamul sighs. "None of that is seen as bad there. I mean, we didn't know about the psychic stuff, but other than that...the focus of Riedra for most citizens is community. We all understood that in order for the whole country to prosper, we had to make sacrifices. What was freedom when giving it up meant we were safe, never went hungry, always had a warm place to sleep and a loving community around us?"He trails his finger in the water. "Imagine being told from birth that the very form you're born in is a judgement of your actions in the previous life. But there's someone-not just anyone, but one of the honored spirits, an Inspired, who is willing to and wants to help you redeem yourself. Who takes you in and cares for you like his own, and perhaps you have to put aside things like love, or even happiness sometimes, but you're serving a greater good, a higher power. And...we know the Thousand Eyes take anyone who objects. But we're told that it's only so the Inspired can help them break free of the influence of altavar." He shakes his head. "Do you know how entrancing it is to be told you can be better, that there's a real way to ascend, and to have a community who believes the same thing, and is willing to support you? It doesn't matter if you have a collar then."
Vishal listens and takes in Dulamul's words before nodding and saying,“I can understand that. Community is important here as well. Everyone plays their parts in the war. We just don’t have that same level of absolute control. I mean....there is no talk of sins our passed self committed. You’re a new person. You’re own person. Free to make your path. Well....for the most part.” Vishal seems to get a little melancholy as he says this. “I mean....nobody forces you to do something but....when you get offered a chance to become something like a member of the Road. You don’t turn down such an honor.” Dulamul shakes his head. "There's no war in Riedra," he says softly. "We all know the stories of its creation. How the kingdoms were warring with each other and the Inspired united them all under a peaceful regime. But unless you're a part of the Harmonious Shield, you don't have anything to do with war. Security, yes. But that's really just invoking the name of your master in the right circumstances so people fall in line." He closes his eyes. "I miss my family. My pack."
Seeing the opportunity to change the subject Vishal says, "Tell me about them. Your family. Your pack. What are they like?"Dulamul takes the opportunity and answers with, "L-Dulateth's Legion is-was about...two dozen shifters. We spent most of our time either practicing, praying or carrying out his commands. We weren't all related by blood, but...we were family." Taking the opportunity Vishal asks something else that has been on his mind for a while as well, “Was there anyone in there you were especially close too?” Dulamul shakes his head. "...Not really." Vishal nods as he feels a small hopeful smile cross his face that he quickly attempts to hide before he asks, “Did you do anything when you weren’t training, praying, or following his commands?” Dulamul shrugs, "Eat. Talk, sometimes." Continuing along this thread Vishal asks, “Tell me. What do you miss most about them? What’s your happiest memory with them?” Dulmaul shifts. "When we turned fifteen, we had an official ceremony to celebrate being able to be full members of the Taskaan Legion. It was one of the few times I saw Dulateth smile, and...the whole pack stayed up late together and celebrated. I've never felt as sure of my place and loved as I did then."Vishal nods along as he tells the story a smile on his face as he hears about a time when Dulamul says he was happy. He then takes a deep breath before saying, “I know I’m no replacement for them. That you’ve only known me for a couple days. But, I would love to be your pack while you’re here. To offer you that same support and love. That’s....if you’ll have me.” (Persuasion: 23)
Dulamul nods quietly. "I...I think I'd like that," he says softly. Vishal's face explodes as a smile takes over his face as Dulamul says this, joy practically radiating off of him. "Really?!? I'm so happy. I thought you'd say no."Dulamul blinks. "...You did?" A little embarrisngly Vishal admits, “Well.....after the fight. I thought you’d just not want to interact with me anymore.” Dulamul shrugs. "Even if I didn't agree with everything you said...you were trying to help. Badly, but not maliciously."Vishal blushes in embarrassment. “I’m still sorry about that. Perhaps you can give me some advice on how to better help in the future.” Dulamul turns to face you slowly. "Well...for one, put it in a framework easier to swallow. The monks here explained that most of what we were taught in the Path of Inspiration was right-being a good neighbor, supporting each other, being kind and honest. It was just that it had been twisted by evil spirits. Rather than just claiming everything I was taught was wrong and evil, they gave me a way to keep my faith while seeing its flaws." Nodding along Vishal replies, "So....like the tenants are right but...those in charge are using it for their own evil gain. Would that be a better way of putting it?"Dulamul quickly agrees with "Yeah.""Okay." Vishal replies nodding with a lot of enthusiasm. "Anything else?" Dulamul shrugs. "Maybe...give the person some time to think it over after you first tell them? It's...a lot." Vishal continues to take the advice, "Okay. Thank you."Dulamul shrugs with a, "Sure."
Coming up with an idea Vishal says, "Hey. Why don't we celebrate? Just the two of us on now being pack."Dulamul agrees and asks, "...What are you thinking?" Vishal shrugs and answers "Whatever you want to do. We can go shopping for some clothes for you or a book or get food." Dulamul shifts. "I...don't know what to do," he admits. "Okay. What about new clothes. You're starting a new life and I think something new is in order. And afterwards maybe we can hit up the baths and relax." Vishal suggests. "O...Okay." Dulamul nods. "...Where do we go to get clothes?" "I have a map so lets see." Vishal says pulling it out and looking for a clothes vendor/shopping district. Finding a place Vishal says "Alright I found a place, let's go." Dulamul stands and nods, "Okay." Vishal stand and quickly dries his feet off before putting his shoes back on. “Let’s go.”He says enthusiastically.
As the two of us head through the monasterty until we find the market, filled with shops and mechants everywhere. Looking back Vishal sees that Dulamul is a little uncomfortable in the crowds and gives him a little smile before quietly saying, "It's a lot isn't it. But you can do it. I know you can. And I'm here for you." He then holds out his hand to act as a lifeline for the shifter. "There's just...a lot of people,"Dulamul says soflty, taking your hand hesitantly. "And they're all...just...different." Vishal gives his hand a gently squeeze before saying, "It'll just take some time to get used to it."Before leading him into hopefully a less crowded clothes shop.
The human manning the shop looks up. "Hello, how cna I help you today?""We're looking to get my friend here some new clothes." Vishal says happily to the shop keep. "Of course. I have plenty of options, what would you like?"The keep replies. Vishal turns to Dulamul and says, "What are you comfortable with or in?" "Um...I...don't know?"Dulamul replies quietly. "Okay. Well....why don't we try some things out first and then make a decision. Let's start with some shorts and an open vest. I imagine with the fur you're hot." Vishal suggests. "...Sure?" Dulamul nods hesitantly. "Okay. And we change if you're uncomfortable with them."Vishal says to Dulamul before looking at the shopkeep. The shopkeeper smiles. "What color?" "Let's go simple. Tan bottoms and a blue top." Vishal says after giving it some though. The shopkeeper nods and hands them over. "Do you have a changing room where he can try these on?" Vishal asks. "Back here."He gestures to a curtained alcove. "Okay. Why don't you go change into those and then come out and you can decide if you like them or not." Vishal suggests to Dulamul.
Dulamul nods and goes hesitantly into the room. "I'm right out here." Vishal tells hims encouragingly as the shifter walks to the back room to change. A few minutes later, Dulamul comes out, looking a little nervous, but not uncomfortable. Vishal has a smile on his face as he asks, "What do you think? Are they comfortable to wear? Can you move around nicely and do you think you look nice in them?""They're comfortable," Dulamul admits. "I...have no idea how I look in them, though. I've never had to worry about that kind of thing before." A slight blush comes over Vishal's face as he says "I think you look really good in them.""...You do?" Dulamul blushes a bit too, then looks confused. "I do."Vishal replies a smile on his face before telling the shopkeep we'll take it.
The shopekeeper nods and tells you the price is two gold pieces. Vishal nods looking at the outfit once more before noticing the shoes and asking the shopkeep, "You wouldn't happen to sell shoes as well, would you?" "We do," he replies. "Can we get some simple brown sandals as well?" Vishal asks. "Absolutely." He places some on the counter. "Five silvers." Vishal gives the man three gold pieces and says, "Keep the change for a job well done.""Thank you very much, sir."The shop keeper replies. Vishal hands Dulamul the sandals and says, "Here you go. Are you ready?" He nods."Yeah." Vishal holds his hand out for Dulamul to take. Hesitantly (but less hesitantly), Dulamul takes it.
Vishal smiles as he gently squeezes the hand and begins to lead Dulamul to the baths. The baths are underground pools of water heated through a combination of underground heat and psionics, and they're very steamy and warm. Vishal leads Dulamul to the most private pool he can find and says, "Here we go. We normally leave our stuff by the pool and just be careful not to splash around." Vishal's face then turns really red as he realized Dulamul will have to take his clothes off in front of him. "I..I...I can turn around so you can undress and get in." Dulamul is bright red. "Yeah, can you...do that?" Vishal nods and turns around so he's facing the other way. After a few minutes, Dulamul says quietly "...Okay." "Okay. I'm....I'm going to undress now."Vishal replies before he starts to undress for the bath as well. Not hearing an answer from behind him Vishal undresses before he carefully heads into the water, keeping his back to Dulamul until he is about waist deep in the water. Dulamul is in the water up to his nose, staring stubbornly at the wall.
A smile appearing on Vishal’s face he says, “You’re okay to look now.” As he sinks a little deeper into the water so he’s sitting down and relaxing, “Plus how can we talk if your mouth is under water.” Dulamul turns around, pulling his head a little bit out of the water. "Okay..." Relaxing into the water Vishal says, “Doesn’t this feel nice. Relaxing, letting the heat take away the pain of nonstop traveling, plus getting all the dirt and such off.” "Maybe a little," Dulamul admits. “I think it feels really nice. And it’ll feel good to sleep on a bed rather than the dirt. Don’t get me wrong, I’m fine with the traveling and such it takes to get you here. It’s just nice to relax a little after.” Vishal replies. "This is the first time I've ever been outside the city," Dulamul admits. "The first time I've ever traveled." “Right.” Vishal responds before saying, “I hope it wasn’t too terrible. And that...we’ll you’re at least having some fun. I know a lot is changing but....you have to look at the happy things and remain positive.”"I know." Dulamul leans back in the water and closes his eyes.
Vishal has a small smile on his face as he sees the shifter relax some. He then thinks about a question that’s been on his mind all day before deciding to just go about and asks it, “Dulamul. What are you going to do next?” Dulamul shrugs and says, "...I don't know." “Right. You’ve never.... had to think about what to do next.” Vishal then asks, “Is there anything you’ve ever wanted to do but couldn’t?”"Not really." Dulamul shakes his head, eyes still closed. "Well....you can come to Malshashar. That's where I'm from. It's another fort kind of like this but further from the border. My family own a leather shop there. But you don't have to be a leather worker. You can...really be anything you want to be." Vishal answeres. "I...don't know what I want to be." Dulamul replies. “That’s okay. We can figure that out. Maybe try a bunch of things. There’s plenty of jobs and things to do at Malshashar. Its kind of a training area for those that want to fight. But also everything that supports that and some things that don’t. I know you were trained to be like.....a bodyguard. I’m sure you can continue to do that. Maybe join the Road if you work hard enough. That’s if....that’s something you want to do. It’s completely understandable if you’d rather not fight.” Vishal says attempting to give him an answer.
Dulamul shrugs. "The monks said there was a village I could go to with...other shifters."“Oh.” Vishal says visibly sadden by the idea for a moment before he puts on a fake happiness and smile, “That’s good. You can....be with others who have a similar experience hopefully.” Dulamul shrugs. "Maybe. I don't know. I don't know...anything, it feels like." Trying to make Dulamul feel better Vishal says, “Hey. That’s okay. I don’t know much about what’s going on either. Remember. I’m a green guide. First time doing this. Honestly, I’m just talking and hoping what I say is helpful. I’m trying to be a life line for you in all this. After all....isn’t that what pack is for?” "Yeah," Dulamul agrees quietly. “I’m sorry I’m doing a shitty job.” Vishal replies before he begins to sink a little lower into the water. "You're not," Dulamul reassures you quietly. "I just...this has all been a lot, and it feels like even a lifeline is barely keeping me from going under."Vishal doesn’t seem to believe him as he says, “I wish I was better lifeline for you.” And sinks down so his just his nose and eyes are above the water.
"How can you talk if your mouth is underwater?"Dulamul says dryly. Vishal’s eyes begin to glow as he prepares some telepathy but doesn’t send anything. "Doesn't count." Dulamul replies dryly. Vishal concedes and rises back up so he can speak. “I don’t like failing people. And I’m failing you. I wish I could give you more concrete answers and ideas about the questions I’m asking. I wish I could help you more.”"You're helping plenty."Dulamul replies trying to make Vishal feel better. “I still feel Iike I could be doing more.”Vishal admits. Dulamul sits up. "You can help, Vishal. But you can't just wave your fingers and glow your eyes and make me okay. You're doing a lot for me. Be happy with it, okay." Vishal nods his head before saying, “Okay. I...want to be perfect. And I’m so very far from it.”"Nobody's perfect. I...know that now." Dulamul replies. “But I can still strive to be. I want to be perfect. I want to be the person that everyone looks up to because they’re confident and knows the answers.” Vishal admits. Dulamul gives you a serious look. "Trying to be perfect is hard. It's exhausting and painful. Trust me." Vishal sighs, “I know. Sorry.”
"It's okay, just...that was the whole focus of Riedra, you know? Being perfect. Because what you were wasn't good enough." Dulamul replies. “Right. I don’t...want to be perfect because I’m not good enough. It’s more...if I’m perfect than I cannot disappoint people. Plus....maybe I can inspire someone to dance about me and my life. So once I’m gone....my story isn’t forgotten.” Dulamul nods quietly. "You don't want to just disappear."“I don’t.” Vishal repeats before chuckling a little and saying, “Sorry. This conversation took a bit of a sad turn.” Dulamul snorts. "Little bit, yeah." He stretches out in the water. "Do you take baths like this all the time? It's amazing." Vishal smiles, “Pretty much. Except normally I don’t bring people with me. So you’re the lucky first.” "I'm honored." Dulamul smiles. Vishal takes in the smile and then chuckles before saying, “I think that’s the first time I’ve seen you smile.”Dulamul blushes slightly, but doesn't stop smiling. "I'm...not happy, but better. Partly because of you. Even if you royally bungled it the first time." “Well....hopefully one day I can help make you happy. And....it only took me a few tries. I messed up with the ears thing right away.” Dulamul snorts. "Yes, you did." Vishal replies with, “I’m not going to lie. I still really want to touch them. But...I understand you don’t like it so....I’ve been resisting.”
"I appreciate that. They're...kind of...personal, I guess?" Dulamul blushes a little more. “Personal?” Vishal asks confused by what he means by that. Dulamul chews his lip, frowning thoughtfully. "It's...weird-or maybe inappropriate? To touch them outside of if I was wrestling with a sibling and they used it as leverage, or something like that. Not something to touch casually."“Okay. I think I understand better. I’m sorry by the way for touching them. You’re the first shifter I’ve ever met. So.....I’m still learning what’s okay and what isn’t.” Dulamul nods. "Are there...not many of us here?"Vishal shakes his head, “Very few. Most of the time when people hear of one well....it’s of a legion defending their....I don’t know if Master is the right term or if that’s just the word we use to keep it in a negative light.” "Master is the term we used," Dulamul says with a frowns. "Or lord. It depended on how angry he was." Vishal nods and continues with, “Most of the time the light wasn’t good. In fact, we were told to keep a close eye on you. But...when you showed up and looked so scared. Well....against my training and what the Trailblazers told me I threw all that out the window.”
Dulamul looks shocked. "And you didn't get in trouble? You weren't punished for ignoring orders and training?" Vishal shrugs, “Everything turned out okay in the end. So....no. Even though it was probably stupid but....I’ve never been that smart to begin with.” Dulamul frowns. "But...you disobeyed orders."“Yeah. But....as long as everything turns out okay, it’s fine in the end. Part of being a member of the Road is using our best judgment to do something. Even if it seems stupid or is directly against orders.” Dulamul falls silent, looking thoughtful. Vishal leaves him alone to his thoughts for all of five minutes before saying, “Copper for your thoughts.” Dulamul shrugs. "I was just always taught...you should obey orders. No matter how they seem. Becuase your superiors have more information and know better than you."“We were taught orders are important. But it’s not the end all be all. There’s a lot to say for instinct and making decisions in the moment.” Dulamul frowns. "Another way Riedra and Adar are different, I guess."
Deciding to change the subject Vishal asks, “I haven’t done my dance training for today. Would you like to come watch me, I promise I won’t make you dance, and then we can grab some food. I haven’t ate today and I’m tired of soup.” Dulamul nods. "I...think I'd like that, yeah." “Okay.”Vishal says with a nod before adding, “I can turn around first so you can get out and change.”"Thanks." Dulamul blushes bright red again. “No problem.” Vishal replies, the same red as Dulamul before he turns around and looks at the wall. After a few minutes, Dulamul says "Okay." “Okay.” Vishal replies before he gets outs and then dries himself as much as possible using prestidigitation if necessary before putting his clothes back on and turning around to find Dulamul facing the wall.
“I’m decent. Now let’s go find someplace to practice.”Vishal tells him holding out his hand for the shifter. Dulamul turns around. "Okay." He nods and takes your hand hesitantly. Vishal gives him a reassuring smile and a hand squeeze before going off to find a quiet secluded place to practice. Three minutes later, you're able to track down a relatively bare room away from the busiest tunnels. “This should do.”Vishal says with a smile before asking, “You saw some of my dancing while on the road. Do you want to see any one of those again?”Dulamul shakes his head. "Whichever one you want to do." “Okay.” Vishal says before he thinks for a moment and saying, “Okay I got one. This one is about Haztaratai and only the best dancer gets to do their dance. I’ve been practicing to hopefully do it myself one day. She’s kind of....our greatest hero and who founded basically what the Path of Light is. She’s the first Kalashtar.” Dulamul nods. "...Okay, I'm watching."
“Okay. Oh. And there will be some psionics happening. Nothing too big but just some emotions to help with the importance of her deeds. Okay?” Vishal warns ahead of time. "Okay." Dulamul's brow furrows. "I can handle it." Vishal nods and releases hand before going to the center. Some light music begins as he taps into his magic and starts the dance. Some fear coming out as he runs from the nightmare spirits. The part of the dance consisting of spastic movements that all end as Vishal fake trips. The fear being replaced as hope overtakes with the arrival of the Quiori spirit. Standing up Vishal begins quick kicks, flips an punches that look much more like fighting. Hope, confidence, and strength growing. The fighting becomes quicker and quicker as the last fight starts. The hope never going away. Not even as a fatal blow is dealt to Haztaratai and she starts to die. Dies while fighting the last of the nightmare spirits. And as she goes out a big pulse of hope comes out as the Quori spirit goes from one individual into the next. (Performance: 13)
It's a difficult dance, and you don't perform it as cleanly as you mgiht have, but the emotion is there, and Dulamul's eyes are wide with wonder as you finish. Catching his breath Vishal gets out, “That....that....that was a little sloppy but what did you think.” "It was...beautiful. And so sad." Dulamul replies. “It’s a sad story. But....also a inspirational one and....also some hope.” Vishal answers between breaths. "I could...feel it."Dulamul replies. “I’m happy for that. The psionics help with that. And....there’s normally more dancers out so the effect is amplified. I can only convey so much with just myself.” Dulamul nods. "Are...most dances in Adar like that?"“All the ones at the festivals are normally like that. Full of lots of emotions. When it’s just for fun there are some psionics involved but it’s mainly to help people relax and let go of their inhibitions. Kind of like the effects of drinking too much alcohol.” Vishal explains. Dulamul nods, face thoughtful.
“Psionics are kind of a big part of our life. But not everyone can do it since not everyone is Kalashtar. My instructors don’t have any psionic abilities at all. Nobody else on my team does either.” Vishal continues to explain. "Can only kalashtar do psionics? I...think there were people who could do this sort of thing in Riedra." Dulamul asks. “No. Anyone with the proper training and aptitude can do it. Kalashtar are just predisposed to it because of the quori so it’s more common for us.”Vishal answers with which Dulamul replies with a "Okay." “Nobody uses the psionics for mean purposes. Everyone who can do it is taught very early that’s it’s not okay to use it to try and manipulate someone.” Vishal adds. Dulamul frowns. "We were just taught that they were evil. Period. Unless it was from the Inspired, any kind of magic or psionics was seen as altavar influence." “Oh. Yeah. We’re kind of taught to embrace it. And a lot of people can do at least a little bit. I believe everyone on our team besides Taran has some magical ability.” Vishal contiues. "Hmm." Dulamul replies thoughfully. “I don’t know if there’s a way but....if you’re interested maybe we can see if you have the aptitude for it.” Vishal offers. Dulamul shakes his head quickly. "No...I was just curious." “Okay.”Vishal says before his stomach lets out a loud growl. A little blush appearing on his face he says, “I guess I’m hungry. Do you want to grab something to eat now?” Dulamul stands. "Yeah, I'm starving." He gives you a brief smile. “Great!” Vishal says happily, “We can eat a big meal together that’ll have actual meat to it.” He then grabs Dulamul’s hand and excitedly says,“Let’s go.”
Dulamul lets Vishal pull him along to a busy tavern full of a mix of humans and kalashtars, all talking and eating. Vishal takes Dulamul to an empty table to sit down before asking, “Anything in particular I should stay away from when I order us food?” Dulamul frowns. "I've...never actually had meat?" “You’ve never had meat before?”Vishal repeats a little surprised before adding, “Well I’ll order something really good for you then. And you can have meat for the first time.” "Few Riedrans eat meat," Dulamul explains. "It's considered barbaric to eat the flesh of animals. But...I'm willing to try it." “Oh. Okay. I’ll make sure to get some fruits and vegetables as well in case you don’t like it.”Vishal says with a smile before asking, “Any drink restrictions? I kind of want to ask is mead something you also weren’t allowed to have because too much of it makes your brain fuzzy and you loose your inhibitions.” Dulamul gives you a blank look. "We eschewed intoxicants of any kind." “I though so. I can get you some water instead and if your curious you can have a little of my mead okay?” Dulamul nods hesitantly. "Okay."
“Okay. I’ll be right back. I’m just going to order us our food then. I’ll be right there if you need me.” Vishal tell him before pointing to the bar so Dulamul knows he won’t be far. Dulamul nods and leans back in his chair. Vishal heads to the bartender to order. The bartender looks up. "Hey, what can I get you?" "I'd like to out an order down for my table over there." Vishal says pointing out the table. He then orders whatever the equivalent of an Adarian hamburger and fries is for both of them along with a plate of fruit and veggies, a thing of mead and one of just plain water. "It'll be right over." The bartender replies. "Great. How much do I owe you?"Vishal asks. "Gold piece." He replied. Vishal slides the gold piece over and says, "Thank you very much."Before making his way back to Dulamul.
Dulamul is still seated at the table, looking curously around. Vishal joins him at the table and says, “Food and drink is on its way. Anything catch your attention while I was gone?” Dulamu shakes his head. "There's just...so many people." "Yeah. A tavern is normally fairly busy. Its a place for people to hang out and get some food and drink."Vishal replies. Dulamul nods. "Kind of like the gathering places in Riedra.""Right. I actually went in disguise to one of those the day before you all arrived." "Really?" Dulamul raises an eyebrow."Yeah. We wanted to get some information so me, Juhaan, and Caelius all went in. Didn't stay long when we heard some Inspired and other higher ups were visiting." Dulamul nods. "I didn't stop in Hillcorn on my way.""That's fair. We just wanted an idea of the layout in case things went really south." Vishal replies. "That makes sense." Dulamul replies.
The barkeep comes over and drops off several meat skewers, a plate of fried potato things, your plate of fruits and veggies, and your drinks. "Thank you very much." Vishal tells the barkeep as he takes his mead and a meat skewer. Dulamul takes a sip of his water and grabs a plum. Vishal frowns a little bit as he sees him go to the fruit but doesn't say anything and instead digs into his meat skewer. After eating his plum, Dulamul nods. "I...think I'm ready to try the meat now that I'm not quite so ravenously hungry." "Okay." Vishal replies excitedly. "Just be careful to not poke yourself with the stick." He says as he eagerly awaits for Dulamul to try meat for the first time. Dulamul takes a piece and pops it into his mouth, chewing thoughtfully. "So....what do you think?" Vishal asks Dulamul as he eats. Dulamul swallows. "Not bad," he says with a smile. Vishal smiles, "I'm glad you like it. I mean...theres nothing wrong with not eating meat but I like it." Dulamul nods. "It's definitely different."
"I can see that. It like anything new you try. Different and not always bad." Vishal says before taking a drink of mead. "Let me know if you want to try and of this as well.""Um...maybe just one new thing for now?"Dulamul suggests. "Okay. No problem. Just want to offer and show you all the things." Vishal replies happily.Dulamul nods. "Thank you...for helping me." Vishal smiles and blushes a little, "You're most welcomed. I want to help you out as much as possible.""Why?" Dulamul asks frankly. "Well.....because I like you. A lot. So....I want to help you and spend time with you." Vishal admits a little embarrasingly. "Why do you like me?"Dulamul takes a bite of some roasted carrots. Vishal blushes as he says, "I think you're cute. And interesting. And now I want to see you smile more. Instead of the scared look." Dulamul swallows his bite. "I'm not that interesting," he says with a shrug. “I think you’re really interesting. You have such a different view on everything. I just want to talk to you about everything.”Vishal replies. Dulamul shrugs again. "Okay, so...let's talk."
“Well.....I’ve been asking you a lot of questions lately. Is there anything you want to ask me or anything you’re curious or confused about.” Vishal replies. Dulamul chews her lip. "What's...life here like? The monks explained the basics, but...you talked about festivals, and dancing, and...well, what's it all like?" “Well....the day to day isn’t much different. You go to work and then your free to do whatever you want once your work is over.”Vishal explains as he continues to eat and drink. “But every once in a while, normally on the same day every year, there’s a festival. It like a big celebration of something. Some are of religious importance and it’s a lot of praying. Others are of big important historical events. Normally those have lots of dancing, food, drinking. Everyone has fun and watches performers put on shows and dances. And then there is dancing afterwards and people just having fun. Some festivals you get gifts for people you are close to. And there’s also your Name day. Which is a personal festival to celebrate the day you were born and named.”
Dulamul nods. "We had festivals. Usually to celebrate the Day of Unity, or something like that." Vishal aks, “What did you do during your festivals?” "Prayed. Sometimes we would gather around the monoliths and share our emotions. If we were very lucky, the Inspired might join us," Dulamul explains. “Normally our spiritual leaders join us as well. Even the Speaker. He’s kind of like the head of Path of Light.” Vishal replies. Dulamul nods thoughtfully.“We actually have a festival in about a week. It’s a five day event celebrating the spirit Hareth.”Vishal adds. Dulamul nods. "Then I guess I'll get to experience one soon." “Yeah. Hopefully you’ll be settled in a village in time to enjoy it.” Vishal says. "They said I'd be able to leave in a couple days, so I think I will be." Vishal obviously a little less enthusiastically nods, “That’s good.”
"What's wrong?" Dulamul raises an eyebrow. “Just...you might be in a different village than me so....the opportunities I’ll have to see you will significantly decrease.”Vishal explains. Dulamul shrugs. "You were going to be on missions for the Road a lot anyway, right? I...got the feeling that the Road takes you all over Adar."“Right. But I’ll always return home. Plus...I know there I can dance in the festivals. And I want to show off what all my practice has been for.” Vishal tells him. Dulamul shrugs. "Maybe I can come see you sometime." Vishal smiles a little, “I would like that. A lot.”"Then I'll go to it." Vishal smiles as he continues to eat before asking, “Are you going to try and learn something new while you’re here. A lot of people in Adar know how to read so I’m sure someone can teach you how to do that if you wanted to learn.” Dulamul blinks. "I...didn't think about that," he admits. “Oh. Well does that sound like something you’d want to do? Learn to read and write.”Vishal suggests. Dulamul shrugs. "I don't know."“Okay. It’s something to think about.”Vishal replies with a smile as he’s just about done eating and drinking. Dulamul swallows the last of his carrots. "I will."
Smiling Vishal says, “I’m done eating. And ready to go when you are. Let me know if there’s anything you want to do or when your tired or me.”"I'm ready." Dulamul folds his napkin neatly. "And I don't know this place as well as you do. What's something you want to do?" “I was thinking of checking out some more of the shops. See if anything of interest pops up. The road gave us some coin for a job well done. We’re allowed to spend it on whatever we want but it’s kind of excepted to use it to keep our equipment up to date. So I was probably going to look for something along those lines as well as anything else fun that might pop out.” Dulamul nods. "Sounds like a plan." Vishal smiles and reaches to take Dulamul’s hand. Dulamul takes it and lets you lead him.
Easily able to find a vendor who sells chakrams, Vishal goes up to him and says, “Hello. I was interested in your chakrams. Can you tell me a little more about them?” The vendor nods. "Sure. We've got normal ones, as well as an array of magical ones you can choose." “What do you have magical wise?” Vishal asks curiously. "Returning, better hits, glowing," the shopkeep lists off. “Can I see the returning ones?” Vishal asks very interested. The vendor lifts one from a rack. "You throw it, it comes back," he explains. "Simple as that."“Can you demonstrate it?” Vishal asks. He nods and turns, tossing the chakram about ten feet away, then opens his hand. It comes zooming back. Vishal smiles and says, “That’s amazing! How much do they run?”"They aren't much. About 50 gold per chakram." The shopkeep answers. “Oh wow. That’s not too bad. Hmm....can they be combined with other magical abilities?”"If you can find a good mindsmith, yes."“Fair enough. Can I get two chakrams of returning please?”"Sure." The vendor takes another chakram off the rack. "Hundred gold." Vishal hands him the 100 gold and he gives Vishal the chakrams. “Thank you very much.”Vishal sends putting them away before looking at Dulamul.
Dulamul looks surprised. As you start to move away, he says quietly to you, "Do you have to pay for everything here?"“No. Just goods and services. So....for example, I can’t make these chakrams. So someone else makes them. And they want something in exchange for their hard work. So they get money which they then spend for stuff they can’t make. But things like the baths, public libraries, and such don’t cost anything.” Dulamul frowns deeply, nodding. “I understand it’s different. Where you don’t pay for anything. But here you pay for a lot and it’s not a perfect system but it works.” Dulamul shrugs. "Wouldn't it be better if everyone just...shared what they had?" “What if you had nothing to share? Would that be fair to someone who has to share what little they have?”"If everyone shares what they have, nobody has too little,"Dulamul points out. "Everyone contributes, because there's something everyone can do to contribute the the community." “Even the really sick that’ll never get better. Or the really old. Or the blind?” Vishal asks, not trying to make accusation but pointing out flaws. Dulamul frowns thoughtfully, falling silent. "There...wasn't anyone like that in Riedra," he says after a moment.“Right. I’m going to assume they got taken away and....well who knows what happened next.” Vishal says before adding, “No system is perfect. There’s flaws to both.” Dulamul nods.
“Okay. Why don’t you try and help me find something that looks fun.”Vishal says attempting to steer the conversation to something more light hearted. "Okay." Dulamul nods, looking relieved. Vishal finds a rowdy dance hall. Vishal turns and looks at Dulamul as he asks, “Would you like to see the dance hall? It sounds like it’s really going right now. Plus....I’d love to get you to dance some more.” Dulamul shakes his head. "It's kind of...loud." “Okay. Why don’t we find a quieter place? I was actually hoping to come up with a small prank to play on Druhdaar. Maybe you can help me.” Dulamul raises an eyebrow, a small grin playing around his mouth. "What kind of prank?" “I’m not sure. Something harmless obviously and hopefully something he will find kind of funny so he can finally laugh.” "I...have no idea what he would find funny, so you'll have to take point on this one," Dulamul says with a nervous laugh. “Right. I only know a little bit more about him than you. Gruff, likes to be alone and in the woods, likes animals, doesn’t like water or to be clean, I don’t think he really likes dancing either, and there’s the whole you dress as a girl thing.”
Dulamul gives you a blank look. "What?"“What?” Vishal questions back unsure what he is confused about. "What dress like a girl thing?" He responds. “Oh yeah. Well....sometimes I dress like a girl. Not super often but when I want to a dance that normally done by a woman, or I want to go someplace in disguise, or sometimes the performance calls for another girl and their aren’t any more. But yeah....I dress as a woman from time to time.” Dulamul nods. "Okay...that makes sense."“Okay. So what are you thinking? I’m thinking something with water.” Dulamul nibbles his lip. "I've never played a prank on someone before." “I don’t do them very often but every once in a while. They’re normally harmless fun. Hmm....I wonder if there’s any spell of potion or anything that could make him smile.” Dulamul shrugs. "You know magic better than me." “Why don’t we go looking for something then. And we can either do that instead or combine it with I’m thinking water above the door but it’s super flowery smelling or something.” Dulamul nods. "Okay."
Druhdaar awakes with the reassuring smell of horse manure and straw, accompanied with one of the fiercest hangovers the big druid has had in quite a while. With a grunt of pain he opens one eye, then the other and lifts his big shaggy head long enough to confirm his suspicion: for some reason a lot of his drinking bouts tend to end up in the stables... and also quite systematically, with no recollection on how he gets there.
He catches one of the horses looking at him with a mixture of pity and utter indifference, and struggles to his feet with difficulty, not without throwing a dark look at the beast. He then laboriously checks his attire and most of his vital functions: ribs, knees, elbows and finally knuckles, everything seems if not intact, at least neither scratched nor bruised and in working order. That gives the big man a small amount of comfort, as he wasn't planning to start a fight while drunk on his first night in an Adaran monastery. He vaguely wonders if he actually talked to anyone after downing that tenth mug of ale, but doesn't recall anything after being told off by the kitchen master and invoking the mating habits of the man's mother, an extremely slurred tirade involving creatures of the farm and colored by a string of other vivid and creative insults - which the cook fortunately didn't quite understand, due to most of Druhdaar's mouth muscles responding somewhat haphazardly at the time.
Grunting again from the incredible pressure inside his skull and feeling parched with thirst, the big druid makes his slow lumbering way back to his chambers, keeping his eyes as low to the ground as possible, so that his face is hidden by his tangled mane and that he doesn't have to do eye-contact with anyone, never mind attempting actual human communication.
He's in that exact, half-stooped posture when Vishal and Dulamul's bucket falls upside down on his head as he pushes open the wooden door to his room: the trick works perfectly, splashing flower water all over him as Druhdaar remains frozen in place and finds himself drenched in the pungent-smelling liquid.
The sodden figure observes the now-empty recipient as it finds an end to its fall against his bed, after bouncing and rolling clear across the room. As if shell-shocked, he stares in turn at his dripping arms, legs, crotch and beard, the water forming a widening puddle at his feet. The big man seems to take a while deciding on how to react, then simply sighs and shakes himself like a wet dog, then soberly peels off his soggy clothes, laying them carefully by the small fireplace at the other end of the room, where the few logs that the druid had left burning the previous evening had long turned to embers. A strong fragrance of prairie flowers is penetrating every corner of the place, reminding Druhdaar of his first visit to a herbalist shop, years ago in a small village fair near Talashatora. The druid takes a deep sniff then sneezes, shaking his head to recover his balance as a slight feeling of disorientation and light-headedness washes over him.
After standing a little while longer in the middle of his room stark naked, he finally feels that he's dried-off enough to fall into his bed. But this time he makes sure that the door to his chambers is blocked with one of the chairs, before letting his massive frame slam into the furs and fresh sheets.
Still reeking of perfume, it's only a few minutes before he starts snoring savagely.

When Taran first arrives in the training rooms, he's able to find an empty one. About an hour in however, he hears a noise behind him, and a voice says. "Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize this room was in use."
Taran whips around at the voice, dagger appearing in his hand before the words register. He stops mid-motion, and then stutters out "I-I-I'm s-sorry, I-I c-can l-leave."
Taran turns to see Ranari in the doorway. "Oh no, not at all," she says airily. "You just surprised me. I'll use a different room tonight for sparring class."
Taran is about to tell her that he will leave, that he doesn't want to inconvenience her, but then the conversation he had with Esteemed Vishal, after he trained with Lanan resurfaced... who would better be able to tell him if he truly had progressed further than he thought than a Trailblazer? She would not lie, and she would be an expert.
"M-Madam T-Trailb-blazer if, um, well, that is, I-I w-was wondering, if-if it w-wouldn't b-b-be too much t-tr-touble, I-I un-understand you are v-very b-busy, and p-probably w-working with m-more ad-advanced st-students, b-but, on the j-journey here, Es-Esteemed V-Vishal suggested, well, th-that it might be better if I was able, b-because I-I d-don't kn-know who, th-that is to s-say..."
Taran bows finally blurting out the question, "M-may I j-join you? If it isn't t-too much t-trouble, of-of course."
Ranari smiles reassuringly. "First of all, outside of official Road business, I'm just Ranari. And second of all, my sparring classes are walk-in and open to all! You're welcome to join us. We'll be starting in about a quarter bell."
"Th-thank you," Taran says moving to return everything he had moved throughout the room. As he moved though a worm of worry worked its way through him, and when he finished he decided he had to ask, or risk an incident during the sparring session.
"U-um, Madam Ranari, ma'am, I-I j-just, w-while I-I was c-cleaning... W-what are th-the r-rules, n-normally, for sp-sparring I-I mean?"Taran glances off to the side, his body language withdrawn and defensive, "Wh-when I sp-sparred with Mister L-Lanan... it was... it w-was very d-different from sparring w-with Father. I-I d-don't w-want to... m-make a mistake..."
"Absolutely, that's understandable." Ranari laughs. "We spar with practice weapons to minimize the chance of someone getting seriously hurt. But injuries can still happen, especially in the skull, neck, and digits. Therefore, when I call halt, you halt immediately. I'll be using minor telepathy so that there's no confusion as to whether or not your bout is being halted. If you get hurt, tell me immediately so I can figure out if you need to go to the medical ward-a minor injury can get much worse if not properly treated. I'll tell you all what the end conditions for bouts will be in the lesson, and you'll adhere to them strictly-don't wait for the bout to be halted if you know it's over. Something important to keep in mind is that we're not practicing for fair fights. If you're able to distract your opponent and get a sneaky blow in, good for you! Nothing's off-limits, as long as it doesn't inflict serious injury and isn't petty or cruel. Finally, this is all in good spirit. We're trying to help each other improve, not actually defeat each other. Sharing tips and tricks, and showing mutual goodwill before and after fights is fully encouraged, just like sportsmanship is expected, whether or not you won." She smiles.
Taran stares at the Trailblazer with a growing pit in his stomach, "Th-that is... it is q-quite like how M-Mister Lanan and I sparred on, on the w-way here..." he'd say finally, taking deep breaths to try and ease the knot growing within him. "Um, I-I j-just c-came from the Medical Ward a f-few hours ago, I-I r-received t-training from Master Lukaan in Tashalatora. I-I br-brought my s-supplies too, so, um, if th-there is an in-injury I m-may be able to h-help."
"Ex-excuse me" Taran will say after a moment, bowing jerkily, "I-um, I will, g-g-get out m-my supplies, f-for quick access..."
With that he will retreat to where is pack is, organizing and reorganizing his kits, trying to calm the growing storm within him with recitations of the various disciplines. Refusing to fall into the chasm yawning just below his mind.
Looking around Vishal and Dulamul find a shop called Fiira and Geel's Psiomic Pranks, smiling Vishal practically drags Dulamul into the shop. A red haired monk is at the counter. "Hello, I'm Fiira!" she says with a smile. "Welcome to Psionic Pranks." “Hello. I’m Vishal. And this Dulamul. We’re looking for some help to prank our kind of serious and grumpy friend.” "Sure." Fiira winks. "We've got plenty of stuff, what kind of thing are you looking for?"“Well....we were looking for something that would make him smile. And also thinking of doing the standard bucket of water above door thing and filling it with something that’ll make him smell really flowery and stereotypical girly girly but also that smell will be kind of difficult to get rid of.” Fiira laughs. "I think we can handle that. Back there are our "classic tricks with a twist". She gestures towards the back of the store. “Thank you very much.”Vishal says with a smile as he heads back there with the shifter, still holding Dulamul’s hand.
Back there is an array of jokes, like water buckets, whoopie cushions, joy buzzers, etc, each with a magical twist like an actual smell to the fart, causing the target's hair to stand on end, and so on. Vishal looks, and finds, at the water buckets to see if there is one that fits what he’s looking for. Vishal picks that up and look to see if there is anything that’ll make Druhdaar smile. As you look, a woman who looks exactly like Fiira comes bustling out of the back with a bundle of merchandise in her arms."Hi, I'm Fiira! Welcome to Psionic Pranks, let me know if you need help finding anything!" “Uhhh.....weren’t you just up there and you already said that to me?” Vishal responds looking confused but some training coming in as he scans the woman for signs of a disguise/deception. From the front of the shop comes Fiira's voice. "I already told them I'm Fiira, darling. You're Geel, unless they turn their backs." Geel(?) turns back to you, shifting the merchandise in her arms slightly. "Oh, terribly sorry. I'm Geel! Let me know if there's anything I can help you with."
“I see.”Vishal says a little awkwardly at all this before asking, “Anything you’d recommend for making someone who doesn’t smile smile.” Geel laughs. "Magically, or just as a good joke?"“Magically. I have a joke set up but I think this will be great too. Just for those time when he really needs to smile and I don’t have anything prepared for a joke.”"We've got just the thing." Geel winks. "Fiira," she calls. "Grab a wand from the back, will you?"Fiira sails past you. Geel starts putting merchandise away. "Let me guess, you're confused by the whole name thing," she says with a wink. “Right. I’m guessing your twins but why interchange your names?”"Because it's more fun to keep people off balance!" Geel grins. "This is a joke shop after all, what would be the fun if we couldn't play a joke on all the customers?" Vishal laughs at the explanation, “That’s very fair and funny.” Geel winks and finishes with her merchandise. "I have no clue what's taking Fiira so long, I'll be right back!"She vanishes into the back. A few moments later, they both come out, one heading back to the counter and the other waving a wand. "Here we are!"
Vishal looks excitedly at the wand and asks “What is it and how does it work?”"Point it at them, they smile!"the twin says with a wink. "I call it a wand of cheer, but you can call it whatever you want. You can use it around three times before you have to wait until dawn. The person you point it at has to smile, and the less good with people they are, the more likely it is to work on them!" “Sounds perfect. I’ll take it and the bucket please.” "Excellent. The wand's about fifty gold, the bucket is ten. So sixty total!" Vishal hand over the gold, the twins grin and say in unison, "Come back again soon!" Vishal put them in his pack and says, “Alright. Let’s go set this up.” Dulamul grins. "Okay."
Vishal gleefully takes Dulamul to Druhdaar's room. Vishal first makes sure that Druhdaar isn't in his room, which he is not. Smiling Vishal says, “Perfect now we just need to fill the bucket up with water and then carefully place it above the door.” Looking for a place where he can fill the bucket with the water. Finding a water basin Vishal fills the bucket up with water and does whatever is necessary to it for the prank before going to set the bucket properly above Druhdaar’s door. (Acrobatics: 24) The prank is set up beautifully and ready to go. Vishal gives Dulamul a thumbs up and says, “Let’s go find a nearby place to hide and wait until he arrives.”"Okay."Dulamul grins.
Seeing Druhdaar fall for the prank Vishal smiles and cannot help but chukle some. However, upon not seeing a real reaction from the druid Vishal gets ready to shoot him with the wand of cheer. However, Druhdaar closes the door before Vishal can use the magic. With the door closed Vishal starts to burst out laughing.
"Um," Taran blinks thinking back, "This morning... somewhere around 9th or 10th bell. I was not paying very much attention to be honest. And my name is Taran, I might have forgotten to tell the doctor that when I came in."
Taran Cragshollow (Summit Road)
The doctor nods. "Go get some rest, you're no use if you wear yourself out," she says bluntly as she writes something on her sheet. "Come back tomorrow if you want to keep helping."

"What do you know about what our lives were like?" His voice not taking on an accustory tone. What was freedom when giving it up meant we were safe, never went hungry, always had a warm place to sleep and a loving community around us?" He trails his finger in the water.
Vishal listens and takes in Dulamul's words before nodding and saying, “I can understand that.
Your pack. What are they like?" Dulamul takes the opportunity and answers with, "L-Dulateth's Legion is-was about...two dozen shifters. I've never felt as sure of my place and loved as I did then." Vishal nods along as he tells the story a smile on his face as he hears about a time when Dulamul says he was happy.
I thought you'd say no." Dulamul blinks. "...You did?" A little embarrisngly Vishal admits, “Well.....after the fight. I thought you’d just not want to interact with me anymore.” Dulamul shrugs. "Even if I didn't agree with everything you said...you were trying to help. Badly, but not maliciously." Vishal blushes in embarrassment. Would that be a better way of putting it?" Dulamul quickly agrees with "Yeah." "Okay." Vishal replies nodding with a lot of enthusiasm. "Anything else?" Dulamul shrugs. "Maybe...give the person some time to think it over after you first tell them? It's...a lot." Vishal continues to take the advice, "Okay. Thank you." Dulamul shrugs with a, "Sure."
Coming up with an idea Vishal says, "Hey. Why don't we celebrate? Just the two of us on now being pack." Dulamul agrees and asks, "...What are you thinking?" Vishal shrugs and answers "Whatever you want to do. “Let’s go.” He says enthusiastically.
Part II:
As the two of us head through the monasterty until we find the market, filled with shops and mechants everywhere. Looking back Vishal sees that Dulamul is a little uncomfortable in the crowds and gives him a little smile before quietly saying, "It's a lot isn't it. But you can do it. I know you can. And I'm here for you." He then holds out his hand to act as a lifeline for the shifter. "There's just...a lot of people," Dulamul says soflty, taking your hand hesitantly. "And they're all...just...different." Vishal gives his hand a gently squeeze before saying, "It'll just take some time to get used to it." Before leading him into hopefully a less crowded clothes shop.
The human manning the shop looks up. "Hello, how cna I help you today?" "We're looking to get my friend here some new clothes." Vishal says happily to the shop keep. "Of course. I have plenty of options, what would you like?" The keep replies. Vishal turns to Dulamul and says, "What are you comfortable with or in?" "Um...I...don't know?" Dulamul replies quietly. "Okay. Well....why don't we try some things out first and then make a decision. Let's start with some shorts and an open vest. I imagine with the fur you're hot." Vishal suggests. "...Sure?" Dulamul nods hesitantly. "Okay. And we change if you're uncomfortable with them." Vishal says to Dulamul before looking at the shopkeep. The shopkeeper smiles. "What color?" "Let's go simple. Tan bottoms and a blue top." Vishal says after giving it some though. The shopkeeper nods and hands them over. "Do you have a changing room where he can try these on?" Vishal asks. "Back here." He gestures to a curtained alcove.
Can you move around nicely and do you think you look nice in them?" "They're comfortable," Dulamul admits. "I...have no idea how I look in them, though. I've never had to worry about that kind of thing before." A slight blush comes over Vishal's face as he says "I think you look really good in them." "...You do?" Dulamul blushes a bit too, then looks confused. "I do." Vishal replies a smile on his face before telling the shopkeep we'll take it.
"Five silvers." Vishal gives the man three gold pieces and says, "Keep the change for a job well done." "Thank you very much, sir." The shop keeper replies. Vishal hands Dulamul the sandals and says, "Here you go. Are you ready?" He nods. "Yeah." Vishal holds his hand out for Dulamul to take.
I'm....I'm going to undress now." Vishal replies before he starts to undress for the bath as well.
I know a lot is changing but....you have to look at the happy things and remain positive.” "I know." Dulamul leans back in the water and closes his eyes.
Vishal has a small smile on his face as he sees the shifter relax some. He then thinks about a question that’s been on his mind all day before deciding to just go about and asks it, “Dulamul. What are you going to do next?” Dulamul shrugs and says, "...I don't know." “Right. You’ve never.... had to think about what to do next.” Vishal then asks, “Is there anything you’ve ever wanted to do but couldn’t?” "Not really." Dulamul shakes his head, eyes still closed.
"The monks said there was a village I could go to with...other shifters." “Oh.” Vishal says visibly sadden by the idea for a moment before he puts on a fake happiness and smile, “That’s good. "I just...this has all been a lot, and it feels like even a lifeline is barely keeping me from going under." Vishal doesn’t seem to believe him as he says, “I wish I was better lifeline for you.” And sinks down so his just his nose and eyes are above the water.
"How can you talk if your mouth is underwater?" Dulamul says dryly. I wish I could help you more.” "You're helping plenty." Dulamul replies trying to make Vishal feel better. “I still feel Iike I could be doing more.” Vishal admits. Dulamul sits up. "You can help, Vishal. But you can't just wave your fingers and glow your eyes and make me okay. You're doing a lot for me. Be happy with it, okay." Vishal nods his head before saying, “Okay. I...want to be perfect. And I’m so very far from it.” "Nobody's perfect.
"You don't want to just disappear." “I don’t.” Vishal repeats before chuckling a little and saying, “Sorry. Vishal takes in the smile and then chuckles before saying, “I think that’s the first time I’ve seen you smile.” Dulamul blushes slightly, but doesn't stop smiling.
Not something to touch casually." “Okay. I think I understand better. I’m sorry by the way for touching them. You’re the first shifter I’ve ever met. So.....I’m still learning what’s okay and what isn’t.” Dulamul nods. "Are there...not many of us here?" Vishal shakes his head, “Very few.
"But...you disobeyed orders." “Yeah. Becuase your superiors have more information and know better than you." “We were taught orders are important.
"I...think I'd like that, yeah." “Okay.” Vishal says with a nod before adding, “I can turn around first so you can get out and change.” "Thanks." Dulamul blushes bright red again.
Now let’s go find someplace to practice.” Vishal tells him holding out his hand for the shifter. “This should do.” Vishal says with a smile before asking, “You saw some of my dancing while on the road. Do you want to see any one of those again?” Dulamul shakes his head.
"I could...feel it." Dulamul replies. “I’m happy for that. The psionics help with that. And....there’s normally more dancers out so the effect is amplified. I can only convey so much with just myself.” Dulamul nods. "Are...most dances in Adar like that?" “All the ones at the festivals are normally like that.
Kalashtar are just predisposed to it because of the quori so it’s more common for us.” Vishal answers with which Dulamul replies with a "Okay." “Nobody uses the psionics for mean purposes. "No...I was just curious." “Okay.” Vishal says before his stomach lets out a loud growl. A little blush appearing on his face he says, “I guess I’m hungry. Do you want to grab something to eat now?” Dulamul stands. "Yeah, I'm starving." He gives you a brief smile. “Great!” Vishal says happily, “We can eat a big meal together that’ll have actual meat to it.” He then grabs Dulamul’s hand and excitedly says, “Let’s go.”
Part III:
Dulamul lets Vishal pull him along to a busy tavern full of a mix of humans and kalashtars, all talking and eating. Vishal takes Dulamul to an empty table to sit down before asking, “Anything in particular I should stay away from when I order us food?” Dulamul frowns. "I've...never actually had meat?" “You’ve never had meat before?” Vishal repeats a little surprised before adding, “Well I’ll order something really good for you then. And you can have meat for the first time.” "Few Riedrans eat meat," Dulamul explains. "It's considered barbaric to eat the flesh of animals. But...I'm willing to try it." “Oh. Okay. I’ll make sure to get some fruits and vegetables as well in case you don’t like it.” Vishal says with a smile before asking, “Any drink restrictions?
"Great. How much do I owe you?" Vishal asks. "Gold piece." He replied. Vishal slides the gold piece over and says, "Thank you very much." Before making his way back to Dulamul.
Dulamul is still seated at the table, looking curously around. Vishal joins him at the table and says, “Food and drink is on its way. Anything catch your attention while I was gone?” Dulamu shakes his head. "There's just...so many people." "Yeah. A tavern is normally fairly busy. Its a place for people to hang out and get some food and drink." Vishal replies. Dulamul nods. "Kind of like the gathering places in Riedra." "Right. I actually went in disguise to one of those the day before you all arrived." "Really?" Dulamul raises an eyebrow. "Yeah. We wanted to get some information so me, Juhaan, and Caelius all went in. Didn't stay long when we heard some Inspired and other higher ups were visiting." Dulamul nods. "I didn't stop in Hillcorn on my way." "That's fair.
"Let me know if you want to try and of this as well." "Um...maybe just one new thing for now?" Dulamul suggests. "Okay. No problem. Just want to offer and show you all the things." Vishal replies happily.Dulamul nods. "Thank you...for helping me." Vishal smiles and blushes a little, "You're most welcomed. I want to help you out as much as possible." "Why?" Dulamul asks frankly. "Well.....because I like you. A lot. So....I want to help you and spend time with you." Vishal admits a little embarrasingly. "Why do you like me?" Dulamul takes a bite of some roasted carrots. Vishal blushes as he says, "I think you're cute. And interesting. And now I want to see you smile more. Instead of the scared look." Dulamul swallows his bite. "I'm not that interesting," he says with a shrug. “I think you’re really interesting. You have such a different view on everything. I just want to talk to you about everything.” Vishal replies.
You go to work and then your free to do whatever you want once your work is over.” Vishal explains as he continues to eat and drink.
Dulamul nods thoughtfully. “We actually have a festival in about a week. It’s a five day event celebrating the spirit Hareth.” Vishal adds.
“Just...you might be in a different village than me so....the opportunities I’ll have to see you will significantly decrease.” Vishal explains. Dulamul shrugs. "You were going to be on missions for the Road a lot anyway, right? I...got the feeling that the Road takes you all over Adar." “Right. But I’ll always return home. Plus...I know there I can dance in the festivals. And I want to show off what all my practice has been for.” Vishal tells him. Dulamul shrugs. "Maybe I can come see you sometime." Vishal smiles a little, “I would like that. A lot.” "Then I'll go to it." Vishal smiles as he continues to eat before asking, “Are you going to try and learn something new while you’re here. A lot of people in Adar know how to read so I’m sure someone can teach you how to do that if you wanted to learn.” Dulamul blinks. "I...didn't think about that," he admits. “Oh. Well does that sound like something you’d want to do? Learn to read and write.” Vishal suggests. Dulamul shrugs. "I don't know." “Okay. It’s something to think about.” Vishal replies with a smile as he’s just about done eating and drinking. Dulamul swallows the last of his carrots. "I will."
Smiling Vishal says, “I’m done eating. And ready to go when you are. Let me know if there’s anything you want to do or when your tired or me.” "I'm ready." Dulamul folds his napkin neatly.
"Simple as that." “Can you demonstrate it?” Vishal asks. He nods and turns, tossing the chakram about ten feet away, then opens his hand. It comes zooming back. Vishal smiles and says, “That’s amazing! How much do they run?” "They aren't much. About 50 gold per chakram." The shopkeep answers. “Oh wow. That’s not too bad. Hmm....can they be combined with other magical abilities?” "If you can find a good mindsmith, yes." “Fair enough. Can I get two chakrams of returning please?” "Sure." The vendor takes another chakram off the rack. "Hundred gold." Vishal hands him the 100 gold and he gives Vishal the chakrams. “Thank you very much.” Vishal sends putting them away before looking at Dulamul.
Dulamul looks surprised. As you start to move away, he says quietly to you, "Do you have to pay for everything here?" “No. Would that be fair to someone who has to share what little they have?” "If everyone shares what they have, nobody has too little," Dulamul points out. "Everyone contributes, because there's something everyone can do to contribute the the community." “Even the really sick that’ll never get better. Or the really old. Or the blind?” Vishal asks, not trying to make accusation but pointing out flaws. Dulamul frowns thoughtfully, falling silent. "There...wasn't anyone like that in Riedra," he says after a moment. “Right. I’m going to assume they got taken away and....well who knows what happened next.” Vishal says before adding, “No system is perfect. There’s flaws to both.” Dulamul nods.
“Okay. Why don’t you try and help me find something that looks fun.” Vishal says attempting to steer the conversation to something more light hearted.
"What?" “What?” Vishal questions back unsure what he is confused about. "Okay...that makes sense." “Okay.

Taran Cragshollow (Summit Road)
Ranari smiles reassuringly. "First of all, outside of official Road business, I'm just Ranari. And second of all, my sparring classes are walk-in and open to all! You're welcome to join us. We'll be starting in about a quarter bell."

"Th-thank you," Taran says moving to return everything he had moved throughout the room. As he moved though a worm of worry worked its way through him, and when he finished he decided he had to ask, or risk an incident during the sparring session.
"U-um, Madam Ranari, ma'am, I-I j-just, w-while I-I was c-cleaning... W-what are th-the r-rules, n-normally, for sp-sparring I-I mean?" Taran glances off to the side, his body language withdrawn and defensive, "Wh-when I sp-sparred with Mister L-Lanan... it was... it w-was very d-different from sparring w-with Father. I-I d-don't w-want to... m-make a mistake..."
Taran Cragshollow (Summit Road)

Part IV:
Looking around Vishal and Dulamul find a shop called Fiira and Geel's Psiomic Pranks, smiling Vishal practically drags Dulamul into the shop. A red haired monk is at the counter. "Hello, I'm Fiira!" she says with a smile. "Welcome to Psionic Pranks." “Hello. I’m Vishal. And this Dulamul. We’re looking for some help to prank our kind of serious and grumpy friend.” "Sure." Fiira winks. "We've got plenty of stuff, what kind of thing are you looking for?" “Well....we were looking for something that would make him smile. “Thank you very much.” Vishal says with a smile as he heads back there with the shifter, still holding Dulamul’s hand.
As you look, a woman who looks exactly like Fiira comes bustling out of the back with a bundle of merchandise in her arms. "Hi, I'm Fiira!
“I see.” Vishal says a little awkwardly at all this before asking, “Anything you’d recommend for making someone who doesn’t smile smile.” Geel laughs. "Magically, or just as a good joke?" “Magically. I have a joke set up but I think this will be great too. Just for those time when he really needs to smile and I don’t have anything prepared for a joke.” "We've got just the thing." Geel winks. "Fiira," she calls. "Grab a wand from the back, will you?" Fiira sails past you. Geel starts putting merchandise away. "Let me guess, you're confused by the whole name thing," she says with a wink. “Right. I’m guessing your twins but why interchange your names?” "Because it's more fun to keep people off balance!" Geel grins. "This is a joke shop after all, what would be the fun if we couldn't play a joke on all the customers?" Vishal laughs at the explanation, “That’s very fair and funny.” Geel winks and finishes with her merchandise. "I have no clue what's taking Fiira so long, I'll be right back!" She vanishes into the back. A few moments later, they both come out, one heading back to the counter and the other waving a wand. "Here we are!"
Vishal looks excitedly at the wand and asks “What is it and how does it work?” "Point it at them, they smile!" the twin says with a wink.
Vishal gives Dulamul a thumbs up and says, “Let’s go find a nearby place to hide and wait until he arrives.” "Okay." Dulamul grins.
