For one reason or another, you all find yourselves in the city of Neverwinter. Some of you have traveled far, others... started nearby. Nevertheless, the city of Neverwinter is well known across the realms, being almost as famous as Waterdeep, though for different reasons. The oil lamps, and lanterns light the streets of a full-mooned night sky. The moon haloed by soft, white clouds. Those clouds, producing hundreds of tiny versions of themselves, small, white flakes dance unerringly until they reach the ground. The ground is covered in glistening snow, ever padded by more as the minutes pass by. The night air is particularly chilly, making most people wear an extra layer over their normal clothing to keep warm. Despite the chill and the time, Neverwinter was as busy as usual. Shopkeepers warm in their buildings, still selling wares for another hour or so before even they would turn in for the night.
The snow was ankle deep, making walking a bit difficult, and soaking the shoes of whoever stayed outside for too long. News has been going around town, that a Dwarf, by the name of Gundren Rockseeker has called for swift aid, and is offering twenty gold pieces per head to assist him in his urgent business - This, and that he would be meeting all-comers who wished to assist him to meet at the local tavern, the Broken Crown Inn, one of the finer establishments within the city, and to meet him in the reserved back room by speaking to the Barmaid at the front, and to await him there.
Within the Inn itself was a fairly large bar-room, though the weather kept most of the patrons that would usually frequent the establishment in their homes, a few patrons could be seen within. In one corner, a ranger, in a black cloak, with the hood covering his face could be seen. he seemed to be watching the other patrons, for one reason or another, but ultimately kept to himself. He was clearly human, nursing a cup of middling ale. At the bar itself, was a Gnome and a Goliath, playing a game of Dice, seemingly in some sort of betting competition even as they ate their meals. It seemed the gnome was winning almost every game, giggling with mirth. Surprisingly, the Goliath was taking it in stride. Lastly, was the Barmaid. A young, beautiful Elf-Maid, who couldn't be over one hundred years old smiled as she did her work, cleaning the glasses with Prestidigitation, making even the worst quality mugs, and dishes shine immaculately.

An example: Gnome 1-12 2- 1 3- 20 Goliath 1- 5 2- 7 3- 19 The gnome won the first and last round, but lost the second, meaning the Gnome won. since he won 2 of 3.)
Entering into the Broken Crown Inn, Ryner scans the room before closing the door, he keeps his hood up, allowing it to hide his features, letting his cowl hide whatever weapons he might carry. Having just travelled several miles on foot from a nearby town, Ryner was more than happy to meet this Dwarf he'd heard so much about. If what he'd heard from the informant was true, he might find a piece of his patron's essence, or at the very least a clue to one. Regardless, he was here, so might as well get things over with.
After having scanned the room, Ryner pays little mind to the Goliath and Gnome, though his eyes do linger for a curious moment on the human in the corner, though he pays the man little mind, however he does walk right up to Elf-maid. Giving the woman a polite bow, he asks in a respectable voice, "Pardon me madam, but I'm here for a meeting with one Mr.Rockseeker. It was said that I should speak with you." He seems to be respectful, but his face seems too stoic to be outright kind. Distant almost.
The door to the tavern swings open revealing a large figure on the other side who ducks slightly as he enters the tavern and surveys the room. Marius is a hard figure to miss standing at 6'6" tall with a straight and proud posture showing his broad muscular shoulder of which the right side acts as a rest for a glaive. Once you get past the size of him the next thing of note is his dark red hair, cut short and connected to a well trimmed bear, that frames a healthy pale face and two vibrant blue eyes. He isn't a pretty boy by any measure but his face is handsome enough though most of the charm is in his strong jawline and the youthful expression of confidence in his expression. For those who work with mercenaries his soft leather trench coat catches their eye as a familiar lunar symbol appears on it in silver marking him as a member of the Argento clan.
Looking around Marius spots his intended target and so begins to walk towards the beautiful barmaid, his steps giving those watching the impression of a predatory animal stalking as he moves with grace and care: as if one used to moving silently. Moving forward he recalls the job board advertising for men of arms to provide swift aid for some endeavor...although the details weren't forthcoming and the pay wasn't spectacular...which caused some caution in the young mercenary as he wondered why the secrecy given the paygrade of the job. However it had been sometime since he found good work and he was willing to at least meet with the Dwarf and determine whether he should take on the job.
Reaching the barmaid he notes the swordsman already speaking to her and says in his deep masculine voice, "I also seek Mr. Rockseeker and was informed to inquire with you as to his reserved room."
Stepping inside batting and brushing the snow from winter cloak and stark white hair, Salazar turns a nervous smile upon the residents of the room. "Outta me we way, twinkletoes!"He starts, then sidesteps a halfling bustling inside. "Sorry about that, Zimzin. And thanks again for the escort, and the ride on the cara--okay bye!"He waves at the fast retreating form of one of the caravan drivers to any nearby hearths, or failing to find one, the bar itself to ask for a warm drink. The same one that after some convincing after finding himself in dire straights back in Amn, allowed him to join the Caravan as a temporary guard and healer. Salazar carries on inside in spite of the brush off after tapping snow from his boots, loosening his cloak up as he sort of meandered around at first.
A well cared for Amulet dangles into view on a silver chain in the process bearing a symbol of a unwrapped scroll. In drifting from one part of the Broken Crown to the next, examining just about every little thing as if it were a new discovery along the way, Salazar freezes, then turns sharply to Ryner. "Are you here here about the offer as well? I am Salazar. Salazar Falone of Candlekeep. N-not one of the avowed mind you, but uh.. heh... *clears throat*... How may address you?"He asks, flitting from a curt bow at some point during the introduction to a bright but nervous smile as he offered Ryner a handshake.
Raising an eyebrow at the white haired man who came in and acted like a child leaving the house for the first time with the way he stared at everything. Considering the man's odd curiosity it almost tickled Marius to be completely ignored by him as he moved past the young mercenary to introduce himself to the swordsman in what seemed complete oblivion to anything or anyone else. Shrugging at the absurdity of a man of his size being completely missed he stepped around the two and smiled at the Elven barmaid and says again, "if you could lead me to my potential employer I would be much obliged as traveling is hungry work and I will have to wait until after business to enjoy the dining of this cozy tavern." Marius' tone is very cordial as he addresses her.
It would really help if I had an idea of what Ryner and Salazar look like as it cuts down what I can describe as I don't know if I'm towering over everyone, if they are slender, plump, etc. which can factor in Marius' impression of them.
The Elven lass smiles despite Ryners stoicism, offering him a nod in acknowledgement. Ah yes, She says, just as the second man approaches ...he's rented a space for the night in the back, though he hasn't shown up yet. Perhaps if you wait just a little longer he will be around soon? Gundren has a habit of being late this way.. likes to make people feel like they're on time, or.. something like that! Heh. However yes, he should be in soon, he never makes someone wait too long. Can I get you anything? If not, you can wait in the privada just over there.. she says, pointing a dainty, slender finger, as her platinum blonde hair slid down her shoulders, masking her yellow eyes. In the corner of the back of the Inn, was a small door. leadign to a middling sized room, that was round, with a circular table in the middle, large enough to be comfortable, if a little cramped.
The Goliath and the Gnome go about their dice game, the Goliath losing almost every time, though he didn't seem upset by this. The ranger in the corner of the room continuing to keep an eye on the new people who walked in, Including a Trio of halflings, who came bumbling inside, all of them shivering from the cold on their bare feet. Looking around as if to get their bearings, one of them held a small golden glint in his hands. The ranger shot up immediately Thieves! I knew you'd come back eventually! You know not the fate of which you hold! the halflings, freeze momentarily in panic, before they all go running out of the Inn, one of them disappearing entirely, the ranger giving chase....
Salazar awaits on baited breathe. Start to, at least, but quickly withdraws his hand with an abrupt "Sorry, Hold on. This will just be a moment" to fish around his person for something: offering in that moment an opportunity to study him without much worry about rudeness or the like. Similar to Marius, but not quite the same, Salazar was a tall man, easily reaching six feet and a little more if he chose to stand actually stand up straight and broad of shoulder. However, beyond this it is hard to say if he was particularly muscular or plump as beneath the cloak he covered himself in layers of thick clothing and overcoats. Even his hands were covered in thick gloves he has yet to remove. The scale mail distorted among the folds does little to change this fact, but speaks of either good fortune or decent upbringing given he has such an expensive item.
Frustrated, he pauses in his search to loose the noose his scarf had become, drawing attention back up to his face(assuming it left it). As everything else is covered, only his face gives way the dusk-skinned of denoting a Turami or Tethryn heritage from further east and center of Faerun. He would be handsome -- is handsome? He isn't ugly by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, the longer one looks at him -- or actually meet his golden eyes for any length of time, its hard to imagine a less blessed life without having met --
"Oh thank goodness, I found them!"He happily pulls out a pair of wiry spectacles and set them in place, ending whatever momentary entrancement may or could have been in place. "Where were we aga--uh!"He jumps, startled by the sudden outcry and spins around only time to see the tail end of the rangers cloak disappear around outside. "... Uh.. wha... What just happened? Should.. should I go get the guard about that?" He asks of anyone nearby enough to listen.
Sorry, Gen. I honestly missed your post. Most of my post was pre-written from the night before, and I forgot to refresh before putting in the edits. As for adding more to description I shall going forward. I know what the DM put down; but, I've gotten so used to peppering a descriptors within my first few points to cut down on word bloat, and avoid immediate gloss over due to being TOO wordy on my part.
Ryner nods to Elven lass, giving his thanks. He turns to look at Salazar and Marius, "....nice to meet you I suppose." He bows his head slightly at the two of you, "If this job holds the interest I have, than I suppose we'll be working together."
Having said that, he moves to pull down his hood, revealing a head of black hair, hiding a handsome face with deep blue eyes. The fair skin is damaged by a single scar that stretches from the bottom right jaw almost to his mouth, but instead of taking away from his look, it somehow adds to it (i introduce a CHA main character XD). He opens his mouth to say more, but the eruption of action form the ranger interrupts him. He gives a curious, wary look to the thieves and ranger as they run out the door but makes no move to do anything about it. Hearing Salazar's question, he simply turns and moves towards the room, "It is no business of ours, nor does it hold any value to me. Do what you will though."
If no one intervenes with his movement into the room, he'll pick the back corner and sit himself down, setting his blade on his lap as he settles in for to rest his eyes for a bit. It was a long walk, and he would be wise to conserve what energy he had for when it was needed.
Look at the tall and armored man as he puts his spectacles on Marius notes with mild curiosity the odd color of his eyes but other than that seems not particularly drawn to them. Nodding to the Elven maid he says, "thank you and I might ask for something after business." After this he turns to the others and says to them with a smile, "I am Marius of the Argento clan and I hope to work well with you two."
When the incident with the halflings and robed figure happens Marius barely pays attention and moves towards the room with Ryner in tacit agreement taking a seat next to the man that might provide a good vantage point. For his weapon he has it lean against his shoulder and within easy reach should he need it while placing his gear, which included a shortbow, on the ground next to him.
A sturdy looking dwarf casually makes his way into the room. Covered head to toe in battle-plate, twin pickaxes at his side, that seemed to be crafted of dwarven steel, and engraved with dwarven runes, silvered tips. The platemail was a vibrant white, interlaced with gold filigree, and at the collar, was a fitted diamond. Atop his head was a circlet, with an impure sapphire. His beard, and hair, both the color of lava, interlaced orange-black across his freckled face. Just behind him was a tall, middle-aged human. Golden blonde hair, cut short. Ice-blue eyes, and a greatsword of black and silver, strapped to his back, the sword was of simple looking design, but the edge seemed.. sharper somehow, inexplicably so, as if another blade coming into contact would be sheared in half. His armor was similar to Gundrens, though none of you knew who he was, yet.
Ach! Allo all. Me name be Gundren Rockseeker, alike most o' ye 'ave already 'eard o' me? Well, whoever all is here for me requested job, follow me to the Privada, we 'ave a little to discuss, and time is o' the essence, moreso now than ever. This is me partner, Sildar. Good lad, a bit young. But aye, let all who wish to aid me, join me now, or forever forfeit yer twenty gold! Gundren would then make his way towards the Privada, walking like he owned the place, but in a respectful sort of way. Sildar casually following behind, as he took everyone in the room in, sizing them up. His features softened when he saw the elf maid, a fatherly smile crossing his features before it settled back into stoicism.
Ryner stands in a single swift motion, and follows behind the dwarf and human men. He holds firmly to his own blade, curious as to the validity of what he had heard. Regardless, he was here, so he might as well see it through.
Salazar frowned at Ryner, but did not intervene. And to Marius, who for the second time Salazar /somehow/ overlooked, he jumps in place, and could only musters a lot of "uh"and "uhms" before the man decided to walk off with Ryner. Left to his own devices, he continued to stand there glancing back and forth between the ground and the door at first, then muttering into his hand in several crude languages.
Until Gundrun blew in leaving the man at first in awe, then confused, then curious over the duo's apparel. The exchange between Sildar and the elf maid in particular got a quirked brow. But he quickly shrugs it off and trails behind everyone to the Privada. "I hope you're right about all this, Tadriel."He whispers just as over his shoulder along the way.

Marius nods at the impressively armored duo and gracefully gets up from his seat and follows with decently quiet footsteps for one not actively attempting to use stealth. Marius moves with the confidence of a man who has made such deals in the past...or at least was taught about them from more experienced people as his face was fairly youthful...either way he followed along so that he might learn more about his new job.
Gundren grunts as everyone follows before him and Sildar both take seats at the closest side of the table to the 'head' you could get. As Salazar, Marius, and Ryner walk in, Gundren continues to wait in utter silence for another two full minutes. It seems ye are th' only ones tae answer the call. Ye all look relatively capable, though you.. he says, looking at the Aasimar .. C'mon then, stop gaping in awe, ye havnae reason to be such. Anyways, t' Business. As ye'r all aware, I'm seeking people fer job, o' urgency. Sildar and I were going to be doing this ourselves but... new infermation came up that changed our plans. We need ye tae escort our supplies to Phandalin, as we have discovered something of great import.. something lost tae the races of Dwarves, Men, and more more than half a millenia ago. I cannot say more on that subject, but it requires myself, and Sildar to leave immediately, tonight, or we may be too late tae act on this discovery. Hopefully, what I've told ye is enough to depart the import of our mission, despite the mundane nature of the request. it's why we've offered a months pay. Which will be payed upon delivery to Barthens Provisions in Phandelin, by the proprietor.
Gundren then takes a moment to catch his breath. Ruffle through his thick, red-orange beard, letting his words sink in, but starting again before anyone had a chance to reply; SO.... Is anyone havin' second guesses? Dinnae feel this is worth it? etc and so forth? If not, and yer still willin' tae do it. I need you all to leave no later than midday tomorrow. Sildar and I will be leaving immediately after this meeting is adjourned. The cart containing our supplies is in the stables of this establishment. All supplies have already been loaded.. part of the reason Sildar and I were so late tonight. All you have tae do is hitch the horses, and move out heading south along the road towards Leilon. About a day out, there will be a fork in the road, to the east, that leads tae Phandalin. It'll take another half day from there to reach yer destination. After that, deliver the goods, receive yer pay, and do what ye will. Agreed?
Anyone may roll a DC 15 Perception (hearing) check. If you pass...
You hear the soft shuffling of feet from near the doorway behind you that seems to be moving away, towards the entrance of the Inn.

Ryner stays mostly silent for the majority of Gundren's talk, his mention of "lost to the races" caught his attention. It seemed like this might be what he was after, afterall. However, before he speaks, he hears something and dashes to the door, kicking it open and trying to catch whomever it is that is eavesdropping. Now that he was confident that what he was looking for was connected, he wasn't going to risk anyone sabotaging the plan.
Marius listens patiently as their employer describes the job which seems to boil down to be delivering and protecting a shipment while the two of them are busy with something more important. As the lost to the ages portion seems to apply to the reason their employers aren't doing this job themselves he quickly puts the information away in a corner marked miscellaneous information in his mind. When Gundren finishes speaking Marius just catches the sound of something which he decides to note for later....when the man introduced as Ryner sets off after the source of the noise.
Sighing he asks with some urgency, "is payment already factoring food, drink, and living accommodations?" Waiting only long enough for a quick reply, leaving should the two seem to be delayed in responding, Marius then starts dashing after his new comrade in arms muttering, "jumpy one this swordsman." Whether the two manage to answer or not Marius does yell back to them before getting too far, "agreed!"
Salazar had jumped, and hoped into a rigid formal salute on instinct before. Realizing the mistake quickly however, he cringes and quickly withdrew back into himself. Even the promise of information on something 'lost to modern world' only barely gets him to relax again. But only just. Still partially lost in his own funk, he misses any added noise. "U-uh Sounds good to me, sir. B-but--"Whatever else he intended to say gets swallowed by a yelp hearing the door get kicked open. He looks back incredulous at the act, and even moreso at Marius' calm over the whole situation.
If either of the two decide to go tearing off after the source of paranoia -- assuming, of course, it runs away before anyone gets a good look at it -- only a flabbergasted Salazar remains of the party in the room. Even if not, he turns back to their employers, "I, uh, assume that doesn't, er, well, if, uh, mn... So midday tomorrow? I, uh, y-you can count on me, Sir, er, sirs. I will see to it that they both, er, well, all of us leave out just in time."He ends awkwardly chuckling at the end.

Gundren answered Marius I'm afraid tae say the fee is flat. I've learned from past endeavors, that it's the fairest way to deal. No one can get mad that another 'used' more than they did, or received more pay, indirectly, so on, so forth. However twenty gold, when most food costs coppers, or silvers, and a room an average of a gold per day, I'd say it's a fair price. Sildar here tried to convince me to only offer ten.
Gundren and Sildar both looked shocked at the sudden rise of two of his potential hired swords, one flat out agreeing, while the other was left in question, as he bolted. It was clear that they had no idea why. Both looked to Salazar, nodding affirmation. See to it that they do. I'll be counting on you fer just that. Either way, myself and Sildar will be leaving immediately then, for to make the best possible time. And it seems our other lads are eager for something else. Either way, I know atleast two will be there so I will take that as comforting. Ta fer now!
Simultaneously, Ryner and Marius spot the tail ends of a cloak, making it's way out the door. As they both make it to the door it seems as though the person may have gotten away.....
Pursuit: You both make it out the door. The 'eavesdropper' could have gone, left, right, or faded into the alleyway. You have two ways to attempt to follow. Either you can make a perception check (as this is too fast paced for investigation) vs a DC 4. Or, you can choose one of the directions. You must use your action to dash regardless, in order to keep up with the 'eavesdropper' enough for him not to disappear entirely.
Edit: well, your passive perception is more than enough to see that the man ran straight to the alley.
You both notice the figure dashing deep into the alley ahead, apparently making no fuss about how unseen he was. He looks to be forty five feet ahead of you both.
"This way," Marius says to Ryner before dashing after the eavesdropper who he was guessing could be a bandit looking for a wagon to arrange an ambush for. Marius' large frame moves dexterously down the street with his glaive comfortably resting on his shoulder seeming to not impede his movement at all. Thankfully the man is fairly clumsy and easy enough to keep track of causing Marius to barrel down towards him hoping to get close enough to tackle him and hopefully question why he was spying on them.
Running forward Marius is willing to risk a strike against him to get enough ahead of the man to give him time to impede moving further down the alley and hopefully catching him between him and Ryner.
Marius will risk attack of opportunity.
OOC: Still getting used to this forum and just wanted to delete roll for stealth as he can't dash and stealth...tried reverting but got an error code...
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Ryner will run down the alleyway, seeing that Marius went for a tackle, he'll still run, so as to get ahead of them, cutting of the eavesdropper's escape routes. He'll pull out his blade, and aim his palm at the man.
(If Marius fails his tackle, Ryner will fire an Eldritch Blast)
Attack: 16 Damage: 6

In fact, the longer one looks at him -- or actually meet his golden eyes for any length of time, its hard to imagine a less blessed life without having met --
"Oh thank goodness, I found them!" He happily pulls out a pair of wiry spectacles and set them in place, ending whatever momentary entrancement may or could have been in place. "Where were we aga--uh!" He jumps, startled by the sudden outcry and spins around only time to see the tail end of the rangers cloak disappear around outside. "... Uh..

And to Marius, who for the second time Salazar /somehow/ overlooked, he jumps in place, and could only musters a lot of "uh" and "uhms" before the man decided to walk off with Ryner.
"I hope you're right about all this, Tadriel." He whispers just as over his shoulder along the way.

In the Privada
Agreed?

B-but--" Whatever else he intended to say gets swallowed by a yelp hearing the door get kicked open.
I will see to it that they both, er, well, all of us leave out just in time." He ends awkwardly chuckling at the end.
