You arrive at the Southgate Inn just outside the gates of Dun Farum and approach the halfling stablehand who directs you towards a group of five horses. They're fairly average horses, they look well-fed, healthy and suitable for long distance travel, but don't look as though they'd be especially fast and don't look like they're used to combat. Two of them are white, two are a dark brown and one is a piebald.
If you ride straight along the main road towards Nyalean you should reach the town of Berwick by nightfall. Or you could cut cross-country and camp in the wilderness. Either route would get you to Nyalean nightfall tomorrow assuming no hold-ups. ((For the travelling, just tell me the route you want to take and I'll narrate what happens until something interesting pops up))
Laza goes up to the darkest of the horses, puts his gear on the back of the saddle, and says "I haven't much experience riding..." ((Laza would prefer the road over the roods))
You set off down the road south of Dun Farum. Before long it branches and you take the right-hand branch toward Berwick and Nyalean. Initially there are some small hills and groups of trees, until you crest one hill and in front of you you see the Great Plains. They appear to stretch on for as fair as the eye can see, almost flat in every direction.Small copses of trees dot the plains and you can see smoke rising from a number of farm buildings, villages and towns dotted over the plain. The more keen-eyed amongst you spot herds of animals grazing and moving slowly across the vast expanse. It's all very green and, in the bright sun of the mid-morning it feels far removed from Dun Farum and Dogtown.
The road stretches on ahead of you in an almost straight line and you proceed down it without incident, stopping for lunch as the sun reaches its peak. A few hours later you approach a bridge crossing a small river. As you do so, three humans gathered around the bridge approach you. There are three males and one female. All are young and armed with wicked looking scimitars. They're dressed in leather armour and the female, who appears to be their leader, is wearing an ornate hat with a peacock feather. She holds up her hand as you approach the bridge, gesturing for you to stop. They're blocking the road and putting on obviously fake smiles which hide an air of malice and threat.
Brayton stops his horse and takes to the air. Flying overhead with a javelin in one hand and his axe in the other. “I promise you whatever prize you are after isn’t worth the trouble of losing your life, we’re not here to interfere with your business. Just step aside.” Brayton says with authority and a scold.
Ruhvon quietly rides up beside Brayton and sighs at the sight of the toll keepers. "Serpens,"he hisses. The head of his staff comes alive. The creature sways back and forth, baring its fangs and waiting for a chance to strike. The druid's gaze falls back on the three figures and he flashes them a crooked, yellow-toothed smile. He sits up straighter in the saddle as his form becomes infused with the fortitude through his control of the spores.

"Hail!" Laza calls out "Is this the road to Nyalean?"
The leader leans nonchalantly against a post at the side of the bridge. "Aye, that it be. And we keep this here stretch of road safe for travellers, so we collect a toll from those passing through. It's a modest fee - only 5 gold per person, but it allows us to prevent the more dangerous forms of local wildlife from making the road unsafe. If you're happy to pay, we'd be happy to let you on your way."
At Ruhvon and Brayton's response, one of the henchmen appears to lose their nerve and starts to back away. The leader shoots them a glare filled with meaning (Intimidation: 21). The henchman appears to be more afraid of the contents of that glare than they were at either Brayton or Ruhvon and continues to stand ready, their hand on their scimitar.
The leader looks at Brayton coolly and levelly. "You're right, we don't want a fight. So, if you're happy yo pay, we're happy to let you through and everyone's happy. Or, of course, you can find another way across the river." She looks each way down the river and smiles. The river is about twenty feet wide and water rushes through at a fair pace. It might be possible for a strong swimmer to make it across, but it wouldn't be easy. There are no other crossing points within sight.
“Any shit licking scumbag can force people out on the road to pay a toll. Ain’t no skill in it, no trade, no honor. What the hell do you think you’re doing out here? You need a role model!” With that Brayton will rage.and throw his javelin at the leader.

Brayton's javelin flies through the air at the head of the leader of the group. At the last minute she dives nimbly to one side, landing in a neat three-point crouch. "Right, so it's going to be like that then." she says through gritted teeth. Initiative rolls:
The turn order is: Ruhvon Bandit captain Laza/Brayton/Erik Other bandits Rothnar
You're all currently on horeseback about twenty feet from the bandits who are blocking the entrance to the bridge, which is about ten feet wide and thirty feet long. The terrain is fairly flat and open, with low grass either side of the paved road you're standing on.
"Some of them look ready to piss themselves. Perhaps if we deal with the talkative one the rest will do the smart thing." From atop his horse Ruhvon holds out his other hand and begins to "pull" vines out of the ground at the feet of the bandits. He grabs his shield from his back, slides off the horse and steps toward the bandits.
Action: EntangleDC 12 StrST or restrained, area is difficult terrain
Move: Dismount at half movement, then move up 15' towards the bandits.

The vines comes burst out of the ground and begin wrapping themselves around the three bandits. They strain against the encroaching plants, pulling against the sinuous tendrils. Bandit leader: 5 Bandit 1: 2 Bandit 2: 2. The leader of the band breaks through the vines and so does one of their companions. The third bandit is unable to break free of the vines which curl around his legs up to their waist.
As the bandits are 20ft away from you, the vines spring from the ground and stop just short of your horses. They also cover most of the bridge. That means all movement (including Ruhvon's advance this round) will be at half pace, so you're still about ten feet away from them.
The bandit captain advances towards Ruhvon, using her scimitar to hack through the sea of vines with some effort. When she reaches Ruhvon she slashes at you twice with her scimitar: 1716 You dodge nimbly out of the way of both attacks, but she uses the time it buys to pull an ornate dagger from her boot and swipes towards your face. 13 The vines pull her off guard at the last second and the dagger passes inches in front of your face. "Why couldn't you just pay up?!"she yell, frustrated.
Over to Laza, Brayton and Erik. You're currently on horseback. Ten feet from you are Ruhvon and the leader of the group who are in melee combat, ten feet behind them are the other two bandits. One is entangled, the other is not. Pretty much the whole area in front of you and the bridge is considered difficult terrain due to the vines.
Your swing strikes true and your axe hits the leader. She cries out in pain as you open a gash in her shoulder.
To adjust the situation based on Ruhvon's intention when casting Entangle, the grasping vines only cover the bridge. The two bandits are at the near side of the bridge, just inside their perimeter. Ruhvon, Brayton and the bandit leader are five feet from the edge of the bridge and the vines/other bandits. This group is fifteen feet from the horses and the rest of your party.
Laza sighs seeing the blood splatter... thinking to himself "this could have been done much more neatly..." and twin casts suggestion (WIS 13 DC) on two of the bandits saying "You really should run as far as possible from here..."

I'm assuming you're referring to the bandits that aren't the leader. Bandit 1: 18 Bandit 2:4. The bandit who is caught up in the vines seems to think for a second about leaving before resolving to continue the fight. The other bandit is ready to turn tail and run. As he seems to be set on his decision, Erik launches a fireball at him. Fortunately it flies wildly over his head and so does not disrupt the spell.
On their turn, the free bandit turns and pushes through the vines on the bridge, making it most of the way to the far side of the bridge, although you can see it's slow progress. The other bandit is held still by the vines which creep up to his waist. He seems to consider trying to break free but sees Brayton charging his boss and, seeing his defences down due to his reckless attack, decides to unshoulder a light crossbow and fire it at the dwarf. ((The attack has disadvantage due to the bandit being restrained but advantage due to Brayton's reckless attack, so these cancel)). Attack roll: 14 The bolt flies true, striking the distracted Brayton, who suffers 2 piercing damage.

Ruhvon just snarls at the woman as the deflects her blows. He draws back his animate staff, imbuing it with his druidic magic. With a whip of his wrist the snake leaps forward striking at the leader. The swing of the staff is followed by a cloud of spores that surrounds the woman.

“It don’t make much difference, might as well take the road”. As Brayton hops onto a white horse.
