The woman stops suddenly and raises her arms, the look of terror, surprise and sadness are in her eyes as she looks at Cyndral “Please! Please don’t hurt me. We were just trying to live down here. We’ve, we’ve got two small children here. If you’ve killed the others then you’ve left one of them without a family. If you kill me then you’ll be doing the same to the other” You see now that the blankets that she had been moving around contain two babies, possibly about six months old.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
El will run as close as possible (I think with dash they can make it to Q1 but not sure if I counted right) "Cyndral! what's going on? Did you find the last bandit?" Surveying the scene El quickly comes to the realisation that they should deescalate it as soon as possible. "Hey, look we don't want to fight, we had no choice but to defend ourselves but now we do. We won't attack you," they look pointedly at Cyndral, "If you don't attack us. And I promise whatever happens, I won't let anything happen to those kids."
Persuasion: 24
OoC: Q1 around 60/65 feet from El by my count but I used a lot of diagonals going around the left hand side. If it doesn't make sense I can wait until their next turn before speaking the rest of the dialogue (this turn would end on 'as soon as possible')
(OOC - for the sake of starting a dialog, I’m happy with El moving an extra 5ft to get into position) The woman looks at the three people now stood in front of her. A half-Orc, a half Drow and a peculiar looking human. You’re not entirely sure what is going through her mind but she slowly begins to stand. There is still a look of anger in her eyes but there is also a strong look of fear. You can tell that she’s been crying and is still quite tearful. “You’ve taken the one I love. But I will do anything to make sure that these two boys grow up” She scans the cave with her eyes, looking for any other alternative to the situation but can’t seem to find anything.
Cyndral's voice is uncharacteristically cold as he addresses his allies, dismissing his spell but keeping his blade bared. He looks to the ground rather than at her or her children, and quietly differs to the decision of those near him, but not without adding his opinion.
"The Underdark is a cruel place. The three of them will not survive alone, no one could raise children without help here. They've sealed their fate the minute they attacked us. We can never trust her, not after the horrible thing we've done to her, so we can't take her with us. Better a swift death now than slowly starving and watching her young die before her."
Gnarls, arriving in the chamber, is a vision of internal conflict. Flashbacks to that key moment in his youth where he became property of the Uthgardt.
"I...do not know what to do. Cyndral is right. Leaving them here is worse than a quick death. If we take them with us we risk betrayal and detection. Your lover brought this upon you. I wish I could offer your babes the chance the Uthgardt gave me when they, rightfully, killed my parents but I do not think we can. The Drow will not be far behind us and will offer no mercy. They will likely slay your babes in front of you and sell you as a slave. We, at least, can spare you the grief of watching your babies die."
The woman, still with her arms raised above her head takes a step back towards where the babies are as one begins to cry. The woman looks distressed “There are no more. You’ve... got rid of them all”
"Damnit! I wish your friends had headed our warning."Tobias lowers his mace and approaches the woman. "I'm afraid my companions are right. We can't have you traveling with us. The drow are on our heels."
"I can't believe you would have them killed. The children are innocent in all this,"the cleric of Torm turns to scold the others. "The best thing we can do for them now is to lead the drow away from here."
El turns slowly to look at Cyndral and the others, "I- I can't- Look, we are not going to leave them here and we are not going to kill them." El is clearly struggling with the cold hearted contemplation of life and is attempting to be assertive in the most neutral way possible but is also failing at keeping the emotion out of their voice. "Are we really going to go around killing everyone we don't trust?? And who the hell are we to decide what's better for them? Just because you can't agree with someone you would kill them!?!" El is gripping their daggers so tight that their knuckles have turned white. "What are we going to go around EXECUTING every helpless creature now? With that FLAWLESS logic how about we go back to the group and OFF EVERYONE WHO CAN'T FIGHT! HOW ABOUT YOU ALL JUST KILL ME NOW BECAUSE I WON'T LET YOU HURT SOME INNOCENT CHILDREN!!!" While talking, El has moved between the party and the bandit and appears to have grown almost a foot. Instead of their mischievous smile masking their thoughts, El is furious and wearing their emotions on their sleeve.
OoC: Believe it or not this is super in character for El, literally the exact type of thing that can piss them off to this degree.
His short legs making him a bit late, Shishakli arrives and surveys the situation, quietly adding "Those who attacked us have been dealt with, and I have no desire to murder innocent children. Had I been alone they would not have seen me in the first place. Leave them to their fate. If any of you decide it best to have the blood of children on your hands I will no longer lead you through the underdark, as you will show that you are no better than the drow who captured us. Perhaps worse, as at least they value life." he calmly puts his weapons away, picking up one of the bolts he shot earlier adding "I also agree with Tobias. We can mask their presence here and continue on our way. The drow should have nothing to show when they return. What happens after is in the hands of the gods."
Cyndral simply shakes his head, stowing his blade and looking hard at his companions.
"These are the arguments of surfacers. They'll not last a week down here, and I'll not have them travel with us. If your choice is to leave them to their own devices and await whatever crueler fate comes to them, then let that suffering lie on your conscience, not mine. As for us, we should be away before the carrion crawlers catch scent of her loved ones and descend. They'll not discern between the dead and the living once their need to feed rises."
"What happens to them is not our concern, and their death is not your decision." Shishakli replies, honestly concerned that those he's grouped with seem to look forward towards killing infants...
Verim steps forward, breathing normally, remaining calm and collected, his heart beat now still, the light getting ever more dull in his chest. He pulls out a set of Pewter Goblets and 3 sticks of incense.
”Be thankful, mercy is something I USED to abide to, I too would now be a father, if you can do one things that’s to get those children to live fulfilling lives on the surface, away from the troubles of this place, pray to mystra and use these goblets for trade, use this to show authority in front of the drow” Verim hands over the broach, he will also ask for the mask back. “Run in the opposite direction, hide in the smallest cave until the drow pass, do what you must, you will find another passage, go to it and I hope you find your freedom, take the food you need from your fallen, we will take the rest along with potions and supplies, this is all I can aid, be thankful, I have shown great restraint and mercy, if you try anything, I’ll not hesitate to end you.
”Maybe Ront should go with her, certainly can’t aid us, maybe another path is ready for him”
Verim will glance around his party members for indications on the overall gauge of the situation, then walk out of the cave to do as they please, he will walk to F8, lean against the stalagmite and wait for the others, he will grip tightly onto his amulet, the remembering of Sheerava and what could have been draws a single tear to hit the rim of Verims shield
"I fear this is a mistake but I will not push the matter. Do not think I desire their deaths. The babies situation mirrors my own so I do not take this lightly. The Uthgardt could have slayed me when they did my parents, but chose to take me in. I value life" Gnarls says, looking at El. "But I value our lives over those that attacked us. They are innocents, but their parents made their choice for them. Cyndral has the right of it; they are doomed. It's a waste of food and no mercy to them but if Verim's plan can soothe your conscience, I will abide by it"

After the bandit dies, Gnarls uses his movement to go to L4
Tobias rushes around the corner after the bandit that tried to escape. "No where to go. Are you going to be smarter than your friends?!"
Move and dash to Q2
Not knowing how far the cave leads, seeing the bandit drop, Shishakli runs ahead in an attempt to catch the one that ran.
PbP 🎲: Tyekanik; Moneo Noree; Korba Muris; & occasional DM:
Cyndral, loudly and clearly, calls out to the woman, while summoning a small orb of acid into his hand.
"Stop what you're doing and turn to face me with your hands up, slowly."
(Intimidate if needed: 4
Held action: if this woman charges or otherwise threatens Cyndral, she's getting an acid splash.)
