The source of the green light want visible in the darkest woods, but you can see it now. Blazing like a signal fire atop The Peak you see the light, brighter than it's ever been before.
The shadows it casts are deep and black. You DO notice that only areas and things that are illuminated by the light seem to be in disarray.
The strange light and silence bodes ill. Mazer turns to Cuff."Something has happened! Round up all other members of the guard, and look to see who needs help." Mazer then dashes outside to gather the remainder of the team.
The strange light and silence bodes ill. Mazer turns to Cuff."Something has happened! Round up all other members of the guard, and look to see who needs help." Mazer then dashes outside to gather the remainder of the team.
Cuff cups a paw to her ear and mouths [WHAT??]. She gets the gist after brief hand directions, though. She salutes and speeds through the door.
Outside, Mazer, you see black storm clouds roiling overhead. The occasional flash of lightning doesn't relieve the green light surrounding the settlement. Using your keen battlefield awareness, you quickly observe the following: 1) The party should be up the hill from you (via a steep, winding staircase). You can see the trading post/inn, as well as a few mice outside of it who could be your party (though it's hard to tell). 2) You hear a sharp whistle from up the hill. In response (from not too far off in the opposite direction), you hear a chittering, insectoid cry of distress. 3) You see Cuff scrambling up a nearby wall and making her way across the rooftops toward what looks something like a bell tower.
For the party at the top of the settlement, 3 mixed successes were rolled. Sense choices (One still to be selected by Nissa):
What happened here? -Craven
Craven, you know that there are dark magicks in this world. This sickly green light is horribly familiar to you: it's misfortune. In your early life, you once saw a shaman who kept a green fire in a heavily shuttered iron lamp. He was peddling it as a spell to bring "ruination to one's enemies"... You aren't capable of wielding magic yourself, but you are able to distill it from the hearty plants and insects of this island. This feels like a highly concentrated solution of something no-good, and it's all around you.
Are there any dangers we haven’t noticed? -Eli (selected on Eli's behalf)
There is a cracking sound from overhead. You all see a small mouse in an oversized guard helmet scrambling up the settlement's clocktower, but she and it are bathed in the green light
The tower sways slightly. If it collapses, whatever lies in the direction of its fall will be crushed
Mazer makes a quick decision. The insectoid cry is most likely Haul. The mount's life is of course not as urgent as that of a mouse, but it's power will almost certainly be needed. Mazer rushes towards, the sound, ready to free the beast.
2) You hear a sharp whistle from up the hill. In response (from not too far off in the opposite direction), you hear a chittering, insectoid cry of distress.
Oh. Well that’s bad.
Craven, noting the cry and the lack of Haul, panics, “No, no, no! Me investment!”
He takes off running toward it!

Craven, without warning, abandons Nissa and Eli to deal with the crumbling tower and endangered townsfolk. He bounds down the hill with surprising alacrity for an old mouse with a missing limb or two. The physicker passes the occasional citizen in distress, but pays them no mind- there's a bug to save.
Mazer, you're actually not too far from the house of old Nan (who offered to keep Haul safe during the storm). Imagining that his bulk and speed will come in handy, you dash to the entrance of Enhasa where you hope to rescue the beast.
Mazer arrives on the scene perhaps a minute before Craven does. It's... hard to understand what is happening at first. Old Nan's home lies in a hollow under a steep white cliff face. Her "back yard" is actually closer to a farmer's plot. Surprisingly rich, loamy soil (spared from the scouring winds by the cliff) nurtures a small patch of wheat, and barley, and radishes. The roiling clouds overhead have thrown the town into a darkness that is only broken by a dim green glow and the occasional bolt of lightning. A large mass that can only be Haul can just be made out on the far end of the darkened field. However, it is chittering in pain and rolled into an (admittedly very large) ball.
Will you approach head-on, Mazer, or take another action?
Mazer knows he is not Haul's master, but hopes that the giant insect is domesticated enough to recognize him. He approached the curled up ball with a low hand outstreched, and makes low and steady clicking noises with his tongue, humming all the while. Haul isn't a mammal, so mammalian sounds of comfort would not be appropriate here.
Not knowing that Craven is on his way, Mazer approaches the injured beast, attempting to soothe and calm it enough for it out to out of ball position.
"Well, well, lads. Look what the wind blew in," you hear a voice above you say. The first, piercing drops of rain begin to fall around you. Glancing up, you see a shadowy figure standing atop Haul. Now that you're closer, you see the enormous isopod is tied up with a number of long, coarse ropes. The figure slides heavily to the ground from atop Craven's mount, where it is joined by two other figures who appear from behind Haul.
The new arrivals are very much like mice, but… wrong. Horribly, terrifyingly wrong. They stand more than double your height with their long, thin snouts pointing up in your direction. "Gut me, Cutter. It's a wee little soldier mouse!" says the thinner one to the left. The largest and heaviest of the three, the one who originally addressed you, leans close and snuffs at your face, then turns and spits. "Aye. 'E smells cleeean, Piper."
Thinking quickly, Mazer considers his options. He is a skilled swordsman, but three against one is never good odds. He could attempt to stall with conversation. This would be the most logical option, if he knew his team were on the way. Haul did make a loud chittering cry, but would the others recognize it for what it was? Craven would, most certainly. But with everything happening, would he be on his way? Would the others have come too? No, there are too many unknowns.
Possibilities and potentials narrow and collapse. What was a fork of many roads becomes one road ahead. It is the path to take. With this path clear in his mind, Mazer lifts the whistle at his neck, and blows. Three piercingly high blasts emit from the whistle. The blasts are at such high pitch that humans, were they extant on this world, would hear nothing. Even hares, with their long ears, would be unaware of the whistle's effect. Only mice, rats, bats, and the dreaded cat would hear it.
Mazer lets the whistle fall back to the loop around his neck, then draws his sword.
Nissa is working to bring citizens inside, out of the light, when she hears the whistle. "Quick," she says to any able citizen standing by, "Get everyone out of the green light, into shadow! Work together now, goodfolk!" Sparing a glance at the tower (what is its status?), she begins sprinting towards the sound of the whistle.

The tower is cracked and in danger of collapsing. However, at that moment, Thornbuck appears at your side. He's joined by another hare- somewhat smaller and with blue-white fur, her red eyes are fixed on the tower above you.
"Never mind that, Ranger- Bell and I can get the rest o' these folks away before the storm comes and knocks this damnable thing to pieces. You, too, Keeper. Go!"
Nissa goes, like the proverbial hare! When she skids around the corner of old Nan's house, she will stop, and take in the situation. Staying in the shadow of the house, out of the green light, she knocks an arrow.

"You finished sulkin', then ye great beast?" shouts Cutter. "Get haulin' that bug up tha hill. Tha's whatcha get fer letting an old mousewife stick a pin in ya!"
