Meanwhile, in the shadow of the rubble, a pair of green eyes glint violently as Craven arrives at the scene. He glowers down at the rats beneath him, “What you thinking you doing to Haul?” He juggles a blue potion in his hand, “You be looking for trouble? You find it. I going to break you, pop, snap, crack...”
Craven would like to... Intimidate them? What roll is that?

Mazer considers the rat's statement. He can't let the stoat come off with Haul, but he is still alone versus three opponents. He could take one, perhaps two, but three would be very risky. Having blown the whistle, he knows that his companions will be on the way. He estimates a few minutes. The best plan would be to stall the enemy. Get them talking. The lead rat, Cutter, and the other, Piper, have different personalities. Piper wanted to attack, and Cutter held him off.
That's a crack he can exploit. Not a fissure in their social structure, but a small hairline fracture. Piper wants action, and he started to take action without asking Cutter's permission. And Cutter had to restrain him in front of the other. Thus showing dominance.
Mazer chooses his words carefully to exploit the crack. He wants to goad Piper into making a move that will force Cutter into make a decision. Either let Piper have at him, which means a loss of authority, or else restrain Piper, which means escalating their intra group conflict. Either way, that bides time for the others to arrive.
"Good call Cutter. It wouldn't do to have to clean up the mess that Piper's entrails would make all over the dirt."
"Good call Cutter. It wouldn't do to have to clean up the mess that Piper's entrails would make all over the dirt."
Something occurs to you just before you speak, Mazer: That muffling effect in the air stopped the moment you blew your whistle. Thinking back, it also ceased momentarily after you heard Craven whistling for Haul a few minutes ago...
That's weird.
Now's not the time to think on it, though. After you goad the "rat" (again, time later to reflect on these things), it doesn't hesitate. He lunges forward, only to be partially blocked by the much larger Cutter. The two of them end up falling to the ground in a tussle, much to the surprise of them both. "Gor'ammit, Piper! Ye know we've bin ordered not tah kill too many o'dem!"
"Ger'off me, Cutter! I'm gonna make a leash for Mount outta his guts!"
Their fighting is interrupted by Craven, though, who thunders down from above. The two rats on the ground bounce away, ears flat against their skulls, squeaking in surprise (The enemy is afraid! Ongoing advantage granted in all Fight rolls). The third creature though, who as of yet has said nothing, slinks back away into the shadows behind Haul.
Nissa's arrow plunks harmlessly into the earth in front of the remaining two (hard move yet to be taken- mark experience, Nissa!). "Right! That's it, we're surrounded by the little monsters. Asper! I thought you said they wouldn't be able to hear-" Piper looks around wildly. "Confound it, where's that bloody warlock when you need her?!"
Craven cuts them off, “That where you wrong! You’re plan would’ve gone good good, but you made mistake! You stole my Haul. Now, me steal your bones...”
He shall throw his Nightshade Concentrate at Mount! How dare they steal my naming pattern!
Craven tosses the poison-filled jar in the direction of the creatures. It breaks upon the rocky ground with a soft *pop*, and its contents fill the air around the stoat in a sickly, translucent cloud. The massive predator rears up on its hind legs and begins pawing at its face, sneezing violently and gagging. Cutter, though only on the edge of the cloud, also begins gagging and retching.
(Both enemies take 1 harm - ignore armor!)
Unfortunately, Craven's position is now revealed! Piper curses loudly and pulls out a blowgun made from a long, thin, bleached shell. He takes aim and his cheeks puff- Craven you are plugged with a tiny dart in your neck! (0 harm... for now...)
Eli answers the whistle as well, circling around to behind the scene. During the tussle between the two antagonists, he approaches the Stoat. "You will be released when you agree to free Haul. This is a valued member of our party, and you will not disrespect them so," says Eli.
The stoat is, understandably, enjoying itself less by the minute. Eli loosens the ropes connecting it to Haul and--
--And it's away like a shot. It scrabbles up the sheer cliff face and, without a backward glance, it disappears further up the mountain.
Nissa, in that same moment you suddenly don't hear a thing. That muffling phenomenon in the air returns full force. You feel something wrap tightly around your throat and lift you into the air (Nissa takes 2 harm- remember your armor reduces damage by 1). There's a sharp whistle directly behind you, and the muffling effect is gone. "We think that is enough out of you tonight, darling," you hear an oddly accented voice whisper directly in your ear. "Tell your friends to let the rats go, won't you? They are tiresome, to be sure, but we would prefer to keep them alive a bit longer."
(Nissa is restrained- she can take no moves other than rolling Sense or free action speech)
Nissa flails a little, then casts about with her senses to no avail, then finally she snarls, but quietly, "Give me a good reaso--urk!" as the grip tightens around her neck. "Not. Enough... my life... sworn to defend... mouse..." she struggles fitfully.
OOC > For the record, next time that weird muffling sound happens (if she survives this encounter, of course), Nissa is invoking Name of the Wind, she's going to be prepared...

Nissa hears the creature behind her sigh. "Very well. No hard feelings, love- this is just business." Nissa feels a sharp pain in her ears and head. Her legs turn to jelly and her vision begins to swim as nausea overtakes her. Completely limp and losing consciousness, she is lowered gently to the ground, and two large, almond-colored eyes stare directly into her own.
"We are Asper-- we speak only truth. We will not stop him if you follow us up the mountain. He is nothing like these fools here; if you threaten his works, he will kill you without thought."
The two rats (Cutter and Piper) move away from the poisonous fog. Cutter (coughing and spluttering) sees his stoat run away and Eli standing near Haul. "Damned squeakers!" he shouts. He runs toward Eli and draws an absurdly large scimitar, winding up to send the enormous blade into the lightkeeper's midsection!
Mazer, Piper rushes toward you. He spins his blowgun (which is roughly as long as you are) and prepares to crack your skull with it.
(Craven, take 1-harm ignore armor when you take your next move)
Mazer takes in the action surrounding him, looking at tactical possibilities. All of it falls to the wayside when he sees the imminent threat of Piper and his staff. The staff is long, which means its velocity at the tip will be very high. The impact would be lethal. It also means that there is a tremendous amount of momentum, and that it will be difficult to change its course. Rather than running away or moving aside laterally, Mazer steps inwards. This means Piper will need to move backwards to maintain distance, a difficult task when wielding such a large object. Mazer continues darting inwards, moving in a quick zigzag pattern to avoid a straight poke to his chest. He points his sword towards the target.
