"Wait just one moment, Vosnin. I have a thought I'd like to test out," Tine waits a moment. No other sounds come from the house. He looks around, seemingly checking in with the group to be sure they're on guard.
He knocks again. *thump*thump*thump* "Rindal, do you have a brief moment?"
Tine rubs his chin and nods as he turns back to the group. "As I suspected. I don't think we're going to get a warm reception from an angry, automated voice. I'd be wary of simply smashing our way in if Rindal has prepared something for intruders, but I'll happily step aside if that's the desired course of action. Of course, we have other means..."
[OOC: I can wait - posted this before perception rolls] Looking up at some of the windows, Tine casts Mage Hand and checks to see if any will open, budge, or otherwise respond to some pushing and pulling.
It becomes apparent Tine is on the right track, however the collection of your group and the yelling coming from within has drawn some attention from onlookers. A small group of 3 adults and 2 children now watch you from across the street, perhaps more curious to see if Rindal finally makes an appearance after so long in isolation.
Tine then begins to gesture as a spectral hand appears before him. It drifts over to the nearest window, undoes the latch, and flips the window shutter open. The spectral hand then attempts to push the window upwards to no avail. It looks like the window is locked from the inside.
A few stifled gasps come from the small grouping, some with mouths agape.
Mundak slams into the door to no avail. Velten holding back laughter as Vosnin then grabs Mundak and helps by pushing him as he runs into the door for a second time. This time the door gives in as the door frame splinters apart. The onlookers disperse but the children remain and actually cheer for Mundak as he breaks through the door.
Peering in through the doorway, you see a painting hung on the wall. It is a portrait painting of what you can only assume is Rindal, a wiry old human with messy white hair. In his lap sits a sleeping white cat. The entrance itself veers to the right from here. Suddenly a voice cries out, "INTRUDERS! HELP! INTRUDERS! HELP!" You see the source of this is the cat's mouth in the painting, in the same voice as before.
Vosnin is a cat person for sure so he is rather entertained and also thinking of how he can take the talking cat painting home with him."Quite now, Mr. Kitty. We're only here to help. Where's Rindal?"
Only the mouth on the cat moves, the rest remains inanimate. It does not respond to Vosnin's attempts to communicate, rather it keeps yelling, "INTRUDERS! HELP!"
Tine raises a hand toward the painting, closing his eyes and concentrating for a moment. "It appears the painting is enchanted. And also, rather annoying."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Entering the house, and ignoring the cat, Velten takes a quick look around the main entrance. He checks for anything that could resemble someone being there recently, maybe the old Rindal hasn't been as cooped up as we thought.
Investigation: 9
"As long as it doesn't have any other powers it doesn't bother me." Velten replies to Mundak, "Should we search the place? I mean we already busted down the door we might as well keep going."
After ten minutes the cat's mouth finally stops yelling. It felt like an eternity but at least its done now. You are all gathered and able to take in your surroundings better now.
Entrance
The entrance is a room that is 10ft by 20ft. There is a bench underneath the painting, to the left of the room, and to the right of the painting is an archway into the rest of the house. To the right of the archway sits a small stool with a melted wax candle on top of it. Going through the archway reveals a much bigger room, a stair case leading upward, a door, and another archway.
Main Room
To the left of the archway you walked through you see a very sturdy looking oak door to the left. Some small pottery to the right of that door sits in the corner. On the adjacent wall, another archway leads into what looks like a kitchen, with a fireplace mounted on the far wall. To the left of the archway you entered from, a large circular table with books piled atop it, books strewn on the floor as well. They are scattered everywhere in this room. You see a staircase leading upwards behind the table.
(OOC: I am not the best at describing rooms. I will create a map and post it here later to help you understand where you are. Hope I gave enough to give you something to work with. Map added.)
Through a quick look around Velten has decided that no one has been here recently, although not too much time has passed either.
"The place is kept pretty clean," Velten states, "there's a bottle of open wine, half full, and a chalice on the table. Must not have been his favourite." The bottle was stuck to the table via some poorly poured wine.
Velten takes another look around but there's not much his orc eyes notice. "Time to check upstairs."
OOC: Anyone else want to do an investigation check before we move?
Edit: I misread my investigation check. The details are fixed now.

A voice cries out, "GET AWAY FROM HERE! LEAVE ME ALONE!" The tone and pitch of voice precisely similar to the previous yell of frustration.

“That sly bastard...” Vosnin mutters at the realization it could be as Tine suggests.

"A magical voice in a place where magic is ceasing to exist. Interesting"
Velten is amused at the door bashing idea, he patiently waits to watch the outcome, arms crossed and grinning.
After watching Mundak fail to open the door the first time, Vosnin will grab help push the half-orc into the door, not wanting to injure himself.

Can I do an arcana check on the painting? I want to see what's actual magical around here and what might be automated in some other way.
