Lead the way. Jalt would stand back and let everyone go ahead of him. I will take up the rear to make sure no one will get us from behind. We must move quietly, we were fortunate to have survived that encounter.

Elspeth stayed quiet as she rested, crouched on the floor of the abandoned room. The large but shallow would on her calf had already stopped bleeding; small mercies, but she bound it as tightly as she could with a strip of clean bandage to keep out the dirt. At the end, the would no longer twinged alarmingly, and she supposed that it was the best she could do.

Once she was satisfied with what she had done, she stood up, still carefully avoiding the windows.
“Wherever we go, we need to be cautious from now on. We need to avoid unnecessary fights.”She nodded. “The keep sounds like a sensible destination for now. High walls.”
She almost walks through the doorway, before realising and turning around.“Oh, should someone else take the lead?”

Jalt would normally light a torch but does not want to bring attention to the group as there is a family amongst them. He puts a hand on Badger's shoulder... Little one, guide me as you've guided me so many times in our past.

Breena will pat Jalt's hand, putting the family in front of her and Jalt but behind Elspeth and Soar (if that's okay with everyone). "We'll be alright, not to worry. Just a few minutes now and we'll be at the keep, then hopefully we can figure out what's going on. Step lightly, everyone!"
Elspeth is fine taking second place, falling behind Soar and the family. She keeps quiet for the most part, content to let the paladin determine where they were headed.
Together, you follow the directions that Linan gives you. The family is clearly terrified in the dark, the children whimpering softly but trusting you to guide them. They all join hands and allow Elspeth to lead them. From time to time, you pass close enough to a burning haystack for those without darkvision to make out each others' faces. However, Soar, Elspeth and Breena are confident, and Linan's directions are clear.
About half way to the keep, you are passing a farmhouse whose roof is burning gently. The crackling noise seems unusually loud in the otherwise quiet night air, though more distant sounds of battle come to you too.
Well well, what have we here?
From outside a building opposite the burning one, 3 human-looking figures step out; they wear leather armour and are moving towards you. One carries a torch, so for a moment, those of you who had been in near complete darkness feel blinded, but it passes quickly. One of them speaks, not the torchbearer, nor the first speaker it seems: More work means more money. You know the drill. The three men draw their weapons, nasty-looking scimitars that you can see already are stained with blood.

Elspeth is immdiately on the defensive, and readies her sling, setting a stone to the cradle. She turns her head, barely, towards Linan. "Get back." She warns, then swings her sling at Man 1, loosing a stone at the man.
Jalt watches Elspeth's rock connect with Man 1 and steps to the side to get a clear angle at Man 2. He places his shield in front of him, aims it in Man 2's direction... GJAHALL HESI IRLYMI... castingGuiding Bolt

The man is killed instantly. Man 2 falls to the ground, dead; his corpse glows faintly for a moment, then it fades. You hear a gasp from one of the children, the Cuth quickly shushes him.

Breena, your arrow misses and flies out into the dark night.
Man 2 is dead, so Man 1 and Man 3 are up.
The first thug, not quite believing that his fellow has been slain so easily, shouts Cut them up, and rushes in to attack the nearest opponent, Elspeth:
Attack: 13 Damage: 2
The other joins him, making his attack upon Soar:
Attack: 9 Damage: 7
Elspeth takes a nasty slash of the scimitar, but Soar deflects the blow aimed at her with her shield.
Cuth grabs hold of the youngest child and the other two follow; he moves them away from the fighting. Linan looks around, finds another large rock, and throws it at Man 1:
Attack: 10 Damage: 4
It hits him, and if he were wearing better armour it might have deflected the damage, but his leathers are torn and battered and seemingly coming apart. He cries out in pain as the stone hits him; he looks ready to fall.

"Work? Money? Drill? Your profession sounds terrible. I don't know what you' be better suited for, trying to kill innocents and children, but Kelemvor is the ultimate counsel. Want to meet him?"
Soar's been talking since they spoke and through combat thus far. As she talks she orbits the man, so she stands to his northeast and is flanking him with Elspeth. She's mad, gritting her teeth as she hoists her warhammer and tries to pound the thug in the face.
