As a Cyberpunk, you grab technology by the throat and hang on. You're not afraid to check out the newest in enhancements, cybertech, and bio-engineering. You're got interface plugs in your wrists, weapons in your arms, lasers in your eyes, bio chip programs in your brain. You become the car you drive, the aerodyne you fly, the guns you shoot. You dive headfirst into computer systems, using your mind to hurtle at light speed all over the new network of micro-nets, Data Fortresses, and Artificial Intelligences. With cyborg fingers, you pick computer locks, with enhanced senses, you see into the Future.
The Cyberpunk world takes place in the future. It's a violent, dangerous place, filled with people who'd love to rip your arms off and eat them. The traditional concepts of good and evil have been replaced by the values of expedience - you do what you must to survive. This is especially true in the Time of The Red, when an atomic bombing and a massive war between Megacorporations have ravaged the few vestiges of civilization that would be familiar to people in society today.
ITS ALWAYS PERSONAL
The rule is it's always personal. Survival is personal - and the hallmark of these dark times. Cyberpunk characters are survivors in a tough, grim world, faced with life and death choices. How they make these choices will influence whether they end up as vicious animals roaming a ruined world or retain something of their basic humanity. Cyberpunk characters are the heroes of a bad situation, working to make it better whenever they can. Whether it takes committing crimes, defying authority, or even outright revolution, the quintessential Cyberpunk character is a rebel with a cause.
STYLE OVER SUBSTANCE
It doesn't matter how well you do something, as long as you look good doing it. If you're going to blow it, make sure you look like you planned it that way. Normally, clothes and looks don't matter in an adventure, but in this world, having a leather armor jacket and mirror shades is a serious consideration.
ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING
It's true. Think dangerous, be dangerous. Think weak, be weak. Everything on the 2000s is carrying lethal hardware. Each character in this world is playing a part - a face that person projects to the outside world as the real thing. Never walk into a room when you can stride in. Never look at someone unless you can make it your best killer look. Don't sit around the flat or cube waiting for the next job - get out and hit the clubs and hangouts. Make sure you're where the party starts.
LIVE ON THE EDGE
The Edge is that nebulous zone where risk-takers and high-riders go. On the Edge, you'll risk your cash, your rep, and even your life on something as vague as a principle or a big score. As a Cyberpunk, you want to be the action, start the rebellion, light the fire. Never drive slow when you can drive fast. Throw yourself up against danger and take it head on. Never play it too safe. Stay committed to the Edge.
Even after a massive war between Megacorporations followed by an atomic bombing, the world of Cyberpunk is a combination of savage, sophisticated, modern, and retrograde. Fashion model beautiful Techs rub shoulders with battle-armored road warriors, all of them making the scene in the hottest dance clubs, sleaziest bars, and meanest streets this side of the post holocaust.
There are nine Roles in Cyberpunk Red: Rockerboys, Solos, Netrunners, Execs, Techs, lawmen, Fixers, Medias, and Nomads.
Rockerboys: Rock and roll rebels who use performance and rhetoric to fight authority. Solos:Assassins, bodyguards, killers, and soldiers for hire in a lawless new world. Netrunners: Cybernetic master hackers of the post-NET world and brain burning secret stealers. Techs:Renegade mechanics and doctors patching up meat and metal alike. *Medias:Newsmen, media stars, and social influencers risking it all for the truth. *Lawmen: Maximum lawmen patrolling the mean streets and road warriors highways beyond. *Execs: Corporate power brokers and business raiders fighting to restore the rule of the Megacorps. *Fixers: Deal makers, smugglers, organizers, and information brokers on the post-war streets of the future. Nomads:Transportation experts and ultimate road warriors.
Cyberpunk character sheets are super easy to understand.
1. BASIC INFO:Meet Forty, a Rockerboy. Or, if you will, a Rockergirl! She's got a bad ass electric guitar. We'll use her as our example.
2. STATISTICS:These are Forty's stats. The 10 statistics are: Intelligence (INT), Willpower (WILL), Cool (COOL), Empathy (EMP), Technique (TECH), Reflexes (REF), Luck (LUCK), Body (BODY), Dexterity (DEX), and Movement (MOVE). Statistics are rated from 1 to 10. When choosing stats, you have 6 rows of stats to choose from for the beginner game. Pick a row of stats you'd like to use, or roll 1d6 randomly.
3. HITS:This is where you record your damage you've taken. Take too much, and you die. Your BODY stat tells you how much health you start the game with.
4. SKILLS:Here are the 12 skills pre-chosen for your starter character. Skills are also rated from 1 to 10. Forty has skills like Athletics, Brawling, and Play Instrument! Each skill is attached to a Statistic and then has a + value associated with it to show advancement in that skill. Basically, when you want to do something that calls for a skill check, you add your statistic (EMP 5 for example) with the value (+6 for example) to get your base skill number, 11 in this example. To perform a skill test, you roll a 1d10 add the number to your base skill number (11 for example), and try and roll equal to or higher than a target number given by the GM. That's it!
5. ARMOR: Armor reduces the damage you take and has a value. Think of it like a soak number.
6. WEAPONS:Here are Forty's weapons and how much damage they do per hit.
7. CYBERWARE:This is where you'd list your cyberware and what they do.
8. GEAR:Your trappings of the future!
9. LIFEPATH: Every character rolls on a chart (or picks from the chart) for each category to flesh out your character's backstory.
That's it! That's all there is to the character sheet!
"If you're gonna rock and roll, you have to know how to squeeze every last drop of pain out of your instrument. And that takes skill, choomba. Not chips."
The mechanics of Cyberpunk are stupid silly easy. Here are some of the rules, the rest I can explain as we play:
INITIATIVE To roll for Initiative, roll your REF attribute + 1d10. Done.
YOUR TURN On your turn, you can move and perform an action. Since this is Pbp, move will be abstracted. Here are a list of actions you can perform for your action: Attack, Grab, Choke (someone in a grapple), Throw, Get Up, Run, Use a Skill, Use an Object, Use NET Action (when hooked into Cyberspace).
RESOLVING ACTIONS WITH SKILLS There's two types of ways to resolve skill resolutions - against someone else, or against a situation. To resolve an action against another living person, here is the mechanics formula: Attacker's STAT + SKILL + 1d10 vs Defender's STAT + SKILL + 1d10.
To resolve an action against a situation, the mechanics formula is the same but you're trying to beat a difficulty number establish by the DM: Attacker's STAT + SKILL + 1d10 vs Difficulty Value (DV)
A DV can be anywhere from 10 to 30 - the number you have to beat. The GM can also add modifiers to the DV to make it easier or harder to beat, like -4 for unfamiliar tools, -3 if it's really complex, or +3 for advantageous gear. The DV stays the same, you subtract or add the modifiers to your roll. So, in summary:
For skill checks, you roll: Attacker's STAT + SKILL + 1d10 vs Defender's STAT + SKILL + 1d10. or Attacker's STAT + SKILL + 1d10 vs Difficulty Value (DV)
For ranged combat, you roll: Attacker's REF + Marksmanship +1d10 vs Defender's DV(which is based on range)
For melee combat you roll: Attacker's DEX + Melee Weapon Skill + 1d10 vs Defender's DEX + Evasion Skill + 1d10
Critical Success and Critical Failure: When you roll a natural 10 on your d10, you've scored a critical success! You get to roll another d10 and add it to your total. When you roll a natural 1 on a d10, you roll another d10 and SUBTRACT that number from your total.
Here's a combat test example:: Misha, a Solo, pulls out her heavy pistol and fires at Devilboy, a Nomad. Misha has a REF of 10, Markmanship of 6 and rolls a 7 on a d10. Devilboy is 13m away so that's DV of 20. For Misha, that's REF(10) + Marksmanship(6) + 1d10(7) for a total of 23. She scores a hit and rolls 3d6 for her damage. That's the damage for a heavy pistol. She rolls a 15! Devilboy is wearing Body armor with a soak value of 10, so Misha does 5 points of damage in totality!
Here's a skill test example: Misha is chasing after Devilboy and has to scale a very high wall. The GM calls for an Athletics check, and we see that under Misha's character sheet, her Athletics is DEX + 5 + 1d10. The GM assigns the DV to be 14. Misha has a DEX of 7 so here's the formula: DEX(7) + Athletics(5) +1d10. She rolls an 10! That's a critical success, so she rolls another 1d10 and stops. She gets a 4. That's a grand total of 7 + 5 + 10 + 4 = 26 vs the DV14! AMAZING! Misha's athletic ability is still awesome after all these years.
Defenders ALWAYS win if you tie.
Of course, there's a little more rules and other things you can do, like punching and kicking, and attacking with blades in your arms, etc, but mechanically, it all works the same and the GM will explain it as the situation arises.
ARMOR Armor is rated by it's Stopping Power, or SP, which is how well it can stop damage. It can be worn on your body and head, and it's advised that you do both. When you are hit while wearing armor, you subtract your SP from the damage you took. If the armor soaks up all the damage, nothing else happens and you don't get hurt. If you do take hits, you take the difference in damage, and your armor permanently gets reduced by 1 SP.
HIT POINTS, WOUND STATES, DEATH, HEALING Hit points are a measure of how much damage you can take before you die. As you take damage, you deplete your hit point total. For now, you have Hit Points equal to 5 x BODY. As you take damage, you reach certain Thresholds eventually becoming impaired. They are: Lightly Wounded, Seriously Wounded, Mortally Wounded, and Dead.
Lightly Wounded: Less than full HP, no other effect, but it's a DV10 First Aid to get you healed. Seriously Wounded: Less than 1/2 HP, -3 to all checks, DV13 First Aid to get you healed. Mortally Wounded: Less than 1 HP, -5 to all checks. Make a Death Save at the start of every turn or die. DV15 to get you back to 1 HP. Dead: One failed Death Save.
At the start of every turn you are mortally wounded, you must roll a Death Save. Roll a d10. If you roll under your BODY, you live, and can take your turn as usual with the -5 penalty. Future Death Saves are made at -1 each round that stacks until someone saves your ass with First Aid. If you fail a single Death Save, you die.
First Aid on a target or yourself depends on what wound state they are in. First Aid takes an action, like all other Skills, and is rolled: TECH + First Aid + 1d10. Once successful First Aid has been received, the target will heal a number of Hit Points equal to their BODY for each day they spend resting. Remember, a Mortally Wounded character who receives successful First Aid is immediately healed to 1 HP.
There are many different types of Roles you can play in Cyberpunk, but on Role is unique in that it has its own rules and realities, and that's the Role of the Netrunner. In Cyberpunk Red, we treat Netrunners exactly like any other type of Character, except that their weapons and defenses all take place inside the mental/computer generated reality of cyberspace, AKA the NET. You need a Cyberdeck to do this. And maybe a Cyberduck. Cyberdecks are special devices designed to find and access systems by converting brainwaves into electrical signals and vice versa. They effectively are modem/wifi systems for your mind. Without a Cyberdeck and the training to use it, you can't even see the NET.
In addition to your Cyberdeck, you'll need your VR goggles. Remember, do it with style, and these are no exception. VR goggles project cyberspace imagery over their view of the world that is actually around them. This means that you will be seeing and hearing things like Programs and Black ICE while your "meatspace" (the real world) team buddies will see nothing.
So lets see what you can do during a netrun. Unlike most other Character Roles, Netrunners have access to two kinds of Actions: Meat Actions (Non-move actions which take place in reality, or meatspace) and NET Actions(which take place purely in the NET). On your turn, you can take either a Meat Action or take as many NET Actions as your interface level allows. No matter which you choose, you still get to take your Move Action, too. The higher a Netrunner's Interface level, the more NET actions they can take on their turn.
LEVEL: 1-3 - 1 Net Action LEVEL 4-6 - 2 Net Actions LEVEL 7-9 - 3 Net Actions LEVEL 8-10 - 4 Net Actions
So a level 1 Interface Netrunner in the NET can only use one NET Action per Turn, while a level 7 Interface Netrunner can take up to 3 NET Actions per turn.
NET ACTIONS AND ABILITIES
JACKING IN/OUT This is where it all starts. Using a NET action, you can jack into a system while withinaccessible range of one of its access points or other NET connections. Being jacked in is a requirement to do anything in the NET. Moving out of the system's range while jacked in to the system jacks you out of the system automatically. Jacking out also resets a systems electronic defenses.
Your Netrunner also has nine abilities they can perform as Actions (these are automatically programmed in their Cyberdeck). You can use these Abilities by using NET Actions (ecpet Scanner). Resolution for using any of these abilities (save for Zap) is much like performing any other type of Action:
Interface LVL + 1d10 vs DV of Task
SCANNER Use a Meat Action to find the meatspace location of systems in an area you can jack into.
BACKDOOR Allows a Netrunner to attempt to break through Passwords in a NET Architecture using a NET action.
PATHFINDER Uses a NET ACtion to partially reveal the "map" of the NET Architecture. Generally tells you about the system you're hacking into.
SLIDE Attempt to flee combat with a Black ICE program as a NET Action. It's not safe in the NET!
ZAP Allows you to make an attack as a NET Action against a Program or enemy Netrunner logged into the NET.
EYE-DEE Allows you to know what a gound piece of data (like a File) is and its value using a NET Action.
CONTROL This is the ability to control things attached to the system like cameras, vehicles, robots, and remotes using a Control Node. Each Control Node has a DV you can try and beat with NET Actions.
VIRUS You can leave a Virus in a system by using a NET Action!
CLOAK The ability to hide traces of your Virus you left in a system using Net Actions.
Night City was founded rather recently as cities go. Night City is a city in the Free State of Northern California. It is located in the west coast of the United States in the Del Coronado Bay. As of the year 2020 it is said to have around five million inhabitants across its many boroughs, and in 2077 was voted "the worst place to live in America". Night City metropolis is built up on dozens of small zones, and is surrounded by larger suburban zones. Zones A through C make up the Downtown area, Zone D is the violent crime-ridden hell hole known as the Combat Zone, and Zones E through J are the wider Suburban area.
Our short test campaign will take place in an apartment in the Downtown area near the Combat Zone.
Our little adventure takes place in Night City, California, which was founded in 1994 with a current population of 5 million people. A densely packed urban city, it's a maze of towering skyscrapers, dangerous alleyways, and burned out ruins. Heavy rock, techno, and rap music can be heard everywhere. Leather overcoats, mirrorshades, and punk fashions. People talking slang, and everywhere you go, neon colors accent the dark cityscape. The glittering citadels of the rich, the fine food, expensive vices, and beautiful scenery. It's all up there. But down there on the streets, it's cold and desperate. The divide only widened as the 4th Corporate War shattered transport and information systems. Food shortages and blackouts are common. There's no middle ground between the haves and have-nots any more. It's all or nothing. This is the world of Cyberpunk.
Our short story focuses on a small band of Mercenaries. Working out of a small apartment, owned by RedEye, our Netrunner. Let's take a peek, shall we?
When you've lived as long as Misha, so she claims, you've seen lots of things change and have a crazy perspective on life. Way back in the day, it was a whole different world. None of this armor, and cars, and guns, and corporate wars. Nope. According to her, there was magic, and monsters, and devils, and Primes. What a load of horseshit. No one lives that long, and no one, certainly, believes in that kind of ******* crap.
But she believes it is true, and her friends don't really argue with her. Probably just to humor her. Maybe because they believe, even just a little bit, that she's right? Either way, Misha had a small collection of associates, or friends, she liked to hang out with and visit when she was off duty. Misha was a lawman, a cop in a dark and cyberpunk world. She was lean, strong, and ripped and had beautiful wavy shoulder length red hair. She used to have green eyes, but they had been replaced by artificial cybers one not too long ago - gave her an edge when shooting, and it was nice. She always packed a slick heavy pistol in a holster underneath her long leathers. And whatever she did, she did in style. Even down to the Russian accent.
Her small collection of associates were a mercenary group that took odd jobs for the highest bidder, and RedEye - that wasen't her real name, obviously - owned the whole ******* building. Some family inheritance. It was a sick ass pad and Misha got along with everyone, even the duck, Quacky. Quacky was RedEye's NET partner. They were inseparable. She walked into the kitchen of Red's Apartment room. Naturally, she had the biggest and fanciest penthouses in the building. Well, duh. It was her building.
"God damn, gimme a cup of that coffee, I hed to pull another damn late shift last night. Way too much crime on the streets lately. It's like an epidemic. Red? Are you here?" she said, pouring herself some coffee, taking a sip. "Ihhh, hot!"
The toilet flushed in the bathroom and after a moment, a white duck wearing a cyber visor for NET surfing came out and waddled past the kitchen and climbed on to the tip shelf, jacking itself into the NET. It noticed Misha was here and quacked.
"Hi, Quacky."Misha raised her cup, taking another sip - this time carefully.
Pierce smirked when he saw Misha sitting at the table. "Is there enough for me, Praskovia?" Pierce never believed any of Misha's stories. No one that was older than five did, but no one gave her shit about it. Misha was someone that you'd rather have with you than against you, so he wasn't going to offend her by insulting stories that were harmless. And it didn't hurt that Misha was one of the most attractive women Pierce had ever seen. He reaches into his wallet, pulls out a wad of Euros, and places it on the table. "Don't get any ideas. That's for RedEye." RedEye was also someone that Pierce valued. Along with Quacky, she handled the nerdy tech shit that he couldn't be bothered to deal with, but in addition to that, she rented out a room to him and didn't particularly ask too many questions about where he got his money from, so long as she got what was hers by rent day. And, like Misha, she was very pleasant to look at. "Sorry Quacky, I didn't bring any grapes for you today." Pierce always wondered where Quacky came from and how he was so good with computers, but he knew better than to go around asking people for their life stories. Not everyone had Misha's love of storytelling.

Misha thought she heard something. “Ah, Pierce, my man. Sure, come..I pour you a cup.” Pierce was indeed good at his job, and the best part was, he worked for himself. Misha was not so lucky, but you can bet your ass she didnt feel that way. Not only did she love working with the Mercs, but she also had a job killing criminal scumbags of Night City. She looked at the money and laughed. Pierce had a great sense of humor Misha appreciated. “That time of the month again, ah!”
The Mercs all lived in the same apartment complex. RedEye rented out a pad for each of them. Quacky lived in the same penthouse as RedEye did, however. They all had amazing rooms. Even Misha rented a nice suite from the Netrunner, and tonight was hangout night. Misha loved hangout night. No one would believe it, but there was a time when Misha didnt need to sleep. As she got older, that wasent the case so much anymore, but it was ok. Her friends were good to her, enjoyed her company, and she would put a bullet in anyone’s head who wanted to dust any of em.
At the mention of no grapes, Quacky let out a long annoyed quack, and Misha smiled softly at the white duck and drank her late night coffee. A fairly new drink for her, not to mention.
Oliver had his feet kicked up on the table as he sat in the coach, his hands fiddled with another random piece of tech that he had found tossed in a garbage, that he was determined to get working again. He liked fixing things. Call it a habit. Plus, it was a habit that paid, which was more than what could be said for most of the people in this city. His own artificial eye looked at the schematics for the item in question while his organic one helped keep focus on the adjustments he was making real-time. He was only half paying attention to the tv as some nice looking newswoman dragged on about the everyday murder. Nothing new. In a city with well over 5 million people, it happens.
Hell, his own life was proof enough of that. Born alone, surviving alone. He was raised by the streets to never trust anyone, yet for some reason, he developed some playboy tendencies (which he has yet to work out to his own amusement) that kept leaving him exposed.....and just like you'd predict. The wolves came for blood.
"Ah, ****."He winced as the memories of those certain, women of his past made him cut his finger. Sucking off the blood, he rolled his eye at the action. His mangled brown hair was tied back in a ronin fashion, though some bangs still slipped down and outlined his jaw. As both a Tech and a slum kid, Oliver's body wasn't the best, but his eyes showed a sharp intelligence and despite his malnourished past, still kept himself feed. His own style was a mix of mock military and downright dirty, with a ragged dark green trench jacket and worn brown utility belt, it was easy to mistake him for a beggar, but that made it so much nicer when he saw their faces after showed them up with his toys~.
Only reason he was here, in RedEye's place, was because he and her were....acquainted. As much as he found her attractive, he knew better than to hit on a Netrunner, especially as a Tech. More so when he knew what hardware she was packing, considering he'd helped her obtain/build some of it. He had a bad history with women, and he wasn't keen to add someone who could melt his brain onto that list....Self-terror aside, it was a nice place. Quiet enough, save for Redeye's other "friends". Noting Misha, and by extension, both Pierce and the duck, he gives them a nod before repositioning himself to put his back to the wall and gets back to work on his little do-hicky. "You two planning on emptying the self again?~" He gives a small dry laugh at the two mercs.
When Min-ji heard Misha's voice from outside her room asking her whereabouts (though it should have been obvious, since she rarely leaves her room anyways, then again, she likes to surprise her friends every now and again), the hacker shouts out "Jamkkanman-- Ugh, wait a minute!" From behind her room door, the various clicking sounds intensified, following up with a lot of groaning and shouting in her native tongue then ended with a "Yeos meog-eo!" and a maniacal laugh. Not a minute later did she bust down her bed room door with her chest puffed out in triumph with her black hair pulled up into two messy pigtails and a grin wide on her face. "Guess who finally beat that boss I've been stuck on in Dante's NET Hell without hacking? That's right, me, this *****."
She parades to the living/dining room where the other two had gathered, wearing nothing but a tank top, a pair of cute pink short shorts, and bunny slippers as opposed to her normal bodysuit and high tech visor. "Oh shit, Pierce, you're here too? Did I make you wait long?" Her dark brown eyes went straight from him to the money on the table in which the girl quickly plucked up and began counting. "On time, as per usual." She continues her counting till she gets to the kitchen where she pours herself a cup of coffee as well after pocketing the cash. She gives a wave to Oliver, making a quick "It's a ****in' party in here today" comment. As she dumps all the sugar and milk someone could possibly put in a cup of coffee, she continues talking. "So, what's up, Meesh? What's happenin' out there? What's gotcha on edge?" She joined them at the head of the table, legs crossed, and takes a sip of brew. "Somethin' I can hack to make ya feel better?"

Pierce smiles at Min-ji as she triumphantly exits her room. "Congrats, I know that it took you a while to beat that boss. You didn't make me wait long, I've just been here long enough to say hi to Misha and put some money down." Pierce had only failed to make his payment once and very quickly regretted it. Min-ji might not have looked it at the moment, but she was a competent hacker who had no problem with hacking into his home appliances and making them play K-Pop at unpredictable and often undesirable intervals, while also leaving the message that her hacks might not be as silly if he continued to fail to pay up. He very quickly showed up with that month's rent, as well as the advance on the next month to show that this wouldn't happen again. They got along pretty well after that.

"Hi Oliver!"Misha said, careful not to disturb the man's concentration. She was always interested in tech he was playing with, and always seemed to be in wonder about what he was holding, and this was no exception.
Misha took another sip of her coffee, always amused at seeing the antics of Min-ji. "Oh just teepeecle violence from the Combat Zone spreading deeper into our Zone. Those punk asses are getting braver everyday. Although, I have the feeling something else ees up."she shrugged the thought away. "So, you are a lucky ***** today! Grats on the Dante win. Oh! That reminds me."She pulled out her own share of her rent. It was a little bit less than Pierce's - only because the Corporation Misha worked for provided free 24/7 security for the building, and Misha went out of her way to protect her friends. "Here ees my share!"
Oliver gives a small nod to Misha, though keeps his attention on the last few bits of this item, which he was now transforming into a candy gun. Because why the hell not.
Tech+Basic-tech Roll:6+10+6 vs DC 14 = 17 total for tech (victory!) (subtracting/failure roll) 4
Finishing the final inputs, he clicks the hammer on the gun and aims it over to Min-ji, "Hey, Min, think fast." Pulling the trigger, he fires a few skittles in her general direction. Not really caring if they hit or not, he just nods with a small smile at the pleasure of knowing that it works. He then stands up and walks over to the bar as well, taking the seat Misha has vacated. Pouring himself some milk, he nods to Min-ji, "What's my rent come out to for this month by the way? Or did the latest upgrade for the Up-link dish cover it?"
While Misha was enjoying the conversation with the Merc team, she stood up during a break in the conversation and went over to the combat simulator, which was in the corner of the Penthouse but still within earshot of everyone. "Quacky, can you load up the target practice program, please?"With a loud quack, the white cyberfowl let her know she was ready to go. She pulled up her sleeve to reveal her wrist jack, and plugged herself into the simulator. It was like accessing a program that she could see in her brain, but not as fancy or realistic as how Min-ji would access the NET. She placed the cyber glasses on her eyes and selected a few options with her cyber eyes.
She pulled her heavy pistol out, and clicked a button that would render the gun safe and not expend bullets. She didn't want to pay for another plaster job like the first time. The program started, and it was like she was playing a video game - a form of entertainment she occasionally enjoyed, but never got used to. She enjoyed the real deal, the real thing, but practice never hurt.
Misha Marksmanship: REF(8) + 6 +1d10 Shot1: 8 + 6 + 6 vs DV15. Scored a 20 - that's a hit. Shot2: 8 + 6 + 3 vs DV20. Scored an 18 - that's a miss. Shot3: 8 + 6 + 8 vs REF(6) + 4 + 8. Scored a 22 vs opponent of 12. A hit!
Shot4: 8 + 6 + 4 vs DV15. If hit, 8 damage minus 10 Soak Value for final damage. Armor deflects the blow but loses 1 SV Shot5: 8 + 6 +10 vs DV15. If hit, 11 damage minus 9 SV for final damage. 2 damage.

ROLES
Solos: Assassins, bodyguards, killers, and soldiers for hire in a lawless new world.
Netrunners: Cybernetic master hackers of the post-NET world and brain burning secret stealers.
Techs: Renegade mechanics and doctors patching up meat and metal alike.
*Medias: Newsmen, media stars, and social influencers risking it all for the truth.
Nomads: Transportation experts and ultimate road warriors.
*Available in the Core Book once released.
A SAMPLE CHARACTER
Cyberpunk character sheets are super easy to understand.
1. BASIC INFO: Meet Forty, a Rockerboy. Or, if you will, a Rockergirl! She's got a bad ass electric guitar. We'll use her as our example.
2. STATISTICS: These are Forty's stats.
3. HITS: This is where you record your damage you've taken. Take too much, and you die. Your BODY stat tells you how much health you start the game with.
4. SKILLS: Here are the 12 skills pre-chosen for your starter character.
6. WEAPONS: Here are Forty's weapons and how much damage they do per hit.
7. CYBERWARE: This is where you'd list your cyberware and what they do.
8. GEAR: Your trappings of the future!
Not chips."
- Johnny Silverhand
GETTING IT DONE
The mechanics of Cyberpunk are stupid silly easy. Here are some of the rules, the rest I can explain as we play:
INITIATIVE
To roll for Initiative, roll your REF attribute + 1d10. Done.
YOUR TURN
On your turn, you can move and perform an action. Since this is Pbp, move will be abstracted. Here are a list of actions you can perform for your action:
Attack, Grab, Choke (someone in a grapple), Throw, Get Up, Run, Use a Skill, Use an Object, Use NET Action (when hooked into Cyberspace).
RESOLVING ACTIONS WITH SKILLS
There's two types of ways to resolve skill resolutions - against someone else, or against a situation. To resolve an action against another living person, here is the mechanics formula:
Attacker's STAT + SKILL + 1d10 vs Defender's STAT + SKILL + 1d10.
To resolve an action against a situation, the mechanics formula is the same but you're trying to beat a difficulty number establish by the DM:
Attacker's STAT + SKILL + 1d10 vs Difficulty Value (DV)
A DV can be anywhere from 10 to 30 - the number you have to beat. The GM can also add modifiers to the DV to make it easier or harder to beat, like -4 for unfamiliar tools, -3 if it's really complex, or +3 for advantageous gear. The DV stays the same, you subtract or add the modifiers to your roll. So, in summary:
For skill checks, you roll:
Attacker's STAT + SKILL + 1d10 vs Defender's STAT + SKILL + 1d10.
or
Attacker's STAT + SKILL + 1d10 vs Difficulty Value (DV)
For ranged combat, you roll:
Attacker's REF + Marksmanship +1d10 vs Defender's DV (which is based on range)
For melee combat you roll:
Attacker's DEX + Melee Weapon Skill + 1d10 vs Defender's DEX + Evasion Skill + 1d10
ARMOR
Armor is rated by it's Stopping Power, or SP, which is how well it can stop damage.
HIT POINTS, WOUND STATES, DEATH, HEALING
Hit points are a measure of how much damage you can take before you die.
NETRUNNING IN THE TIME OF THE RED
Unlike most other Character Roles, Netrunners have access to two kinds of Actions: Meat Actions (Non-move actions which take place in reality, or meatspace) and NET Actions (which take place purely in the NET). On your turn, you can take either a Meat Action or take as many NET Actions as your interface level allows. No matter which you choose, you still get to take your Move Action, too. The higher a Netrunner's Interface level, the more NET actions they can take on their turn.
LEVEL: 1-3 - 1 Net Action
LEVEL 4-6 - 2 Net Actions
LEVEL 7-9 - 3 Net Actions
LEVEL 8-10 - 4 Net Actions
So a level 1 Interface Netrunner in the NET can only use one NET Action per Turn, while a level 7 Interface Netrunner can take up to 3 NET Actions per turn.
NET ACTIONS AND ABILITIES
JACKING IN/OUT
This is where it all starts.
SCANNER
Use a Meat Action to find the meatspace location of systems in an area you can jack into.
BACKDOOR
Allows a Netrunner to attempt to break through Passwords in a NET Architecture using a NET action.
PATHFINDER
Uses a NET ACtion to partially reveal the "map" of the NET Architecture. Generally tells you about the system you're hacking into.
SLIDE
Attempt to flee combat with a Black ICE program as a NET Action. It's not safe in the NET!
ZAP
Allows you to make an attack as a NET Action against a Program or enemy Netrunner logged into the NET.
EYE-DEE
Allows you to know what a gound piece of data (like a File) is and its value using a NET Action.
CONTROL
This is the ability to control things attached to the system like cameras, vehicles, robots, and remotes using a Control Node. Each Control Node has a DV you can try and beat with NET Actions.
VIRUS
You can leave a Virus in a system by using a NET Action!
CLOAK
The ability to hide traces of your Virus you left in a system using Net Actions.
NIGHT CITY, CALIFORNIA
MINI ADVENTURE: THE APARTMENT
The year is 2045..
MISHA, LAWMAN
REDEYE'S PENHOUSE, EVENING
"Hi, Quacky." Misha raised her cup, taking another sip - this time carefully.

Oliver (aka. "Torch", the Tech)
"Ah, ****." He winced as the memories of those certain, women of his past made him cut his finger.

"Hi Oliver!" Misha said, careful not to disturb the man's concentration.
Although, I have the feeling something else ees up." she shrugged the thought away. "So, you are a lucky ***** today! Grats on the Dante win. Oh! That reminds me." She pulled out her own share of her rent.
"Quacky, can you load up the target practice program, please?" With a loud quack, the white cyberfowl let her know she was ready to go.
