[[As far as Brand remembers/knows, the man was just a hand leader in the Engelian army garrison there. It is a bit strange that he is now a temple guard, as they are different organisations, but presumably experienced men-at-arms can find work pretty easily. Of note is the fact that the garrison in Last Chance fell to the itich soon after Brand left, so this man either left at about the same time, or is one of the very few survivors that made it out.]]

Since Brand does have disguise skills; can we assume Falco Varsil is this guy, but with less unusual hair colour (black?) (he was gone for a long-ish time, so has had time to regrow beard):

Some people argue it's about perception as well as disguise (seeing what work, and seeing if you've achieved it), and that sounds like an interesting approach...but I was wondering if the following might also add to this:

If you have another person with disguise OR perception present, then you can make opposing rolls. If they 'break' your disguise, then you know it's bad and can retry. The upshot of this might be if two people work on a disguise, you get advantage AND the best person's skill.

Or....just go with the disguise skill + perception to "check" in mirror (disguise kit contains one I assume).

This is just a random thought, and you may already have this sorted out...if so, I'd like to hear how it works when (a) you have time and friends, and (b) you only have a mirror]]

[[Makes perfect sense. I would possibly argue that pretending to a made-up person is much easier than trying to impersonate someone who is known to the observer. I probably need to get 'perform' and/or 'Deception' if I want to do more than look different. Though most times, looking different is a good start]]

Brand makes his way through the deserted and rain-drenched streets of Scholar's Ward looking for the Compleat Sage using the scant information his mother gave him [[She couldn't have given him exact directions because she has never been there]]. His clothes are damp and he is now feeling cold, with no respite being provided by his sopping wet cloak.

The Compleat Sage turns out to be quite easy to find, and although the shutters have been drawn because of the bad weather, there is still light showing through the small pane of glass set in the door.

Brand enters the shop to the tinkle of a little bell above the doorway.

"Don't you dare drip on my floor," says an imperious voice from the back of the shop.

[[Hah. He did a masterful job of investigation, locating it nestled among three small factories, well off the main road, but taking advantage of the natural drainage, and surrounding industrial heat, that ensure the books remain dry. Just saying.]]

"Don't you dare drip on my floor," says an imperious voice from the back of the shop.

Brand stops in his tracks, having flash-backs of his interaction with Haneena. He gingerly removes his cloak, looks for a place to hang it, then digs in his satchel for his sack, and his mothers letter. Holding both gingerly in his hands, he waits for the owner.

As Brand begins to take off his cloak, a small man appears from behind one of the many large bookcases that fill the shop.

"Sweet Aieda," are the man's first words when he see Brand. The words are in Sorian rather than the Stemian he shouted when Brand first entered the building.

"I am so sorry," he says as he approaches looking anxious. "I wasn't expecting any customers in this foul weather, I thought you a delivery boy."

He then pulls himself together, and says, "And how may I help you today, kind sir?"

Brand pulls his mother's letter out of the depths of his satchel. Fortunately, it seems to be mostly dry, except for one corner.

Brand bows slightly, frowning at the drips that fall off his hair. "If it is not too much trouble, my mother asked me to collect a book for her. I will most assuredly understand if you would prefer I return in better weather. I would hate to cause harm to either your collection, or her book."

"Your mother?" asks the man, curious. "And who would your mother be, good sir?"

"Apologies, the Lady Saleena Brand." He bows slightly, "Alaric Brand at your service."

"I believe you have found a book for her", he  says, proferring the letter.

Brand continues, "I have not had the pleasure of visiting your shop before; in what range and manner of books do you specialize?"
