I'm good with anything in terms of strategy. As for items I'll just take what's on my DnD Beyond character sheet under equipment. I'm down with just waiting until the we reach the entrance of the woods tomorrow. I'm exictied for the game guys!
A quiet evening comes and goes. Early morning arrives and the anxiousness near palpable from the group. It hangs in the air like a fog, visible, lingering, but nothing to do but remain in it or push through. After gathering the gear at their bunks, they then pick up the gear they are checking out. Each member of the group signing the document claiming responsibility for the gear, its safe keeping with a wordy return policy.
With gear in hand, a mission, and some youthful exuberance. The group makes their way out of the front gate and out towards the forest. Moving across the grassland between the base and the forest was easy but staring into the forest, you got the feeling the hard part was just about to begin. Looking left and right, large, old, gnarled trees rose to dizzying heights and stretch out as far as you could see. This line marked the edge of the known civilization and the beginning a wild land. Looking into you could see... shadow. The canopy above was think with leaves and cast dark shadows on the floor below. A floor covered by equally thick leaves, sticks, and dark green moss. Little grew on floor below due the lack of light. All that was left now was to take that final step, to cross that threshold.
Here you are guys and gals, time to move into the deep dark forest. You have your mission and you can post what you want to and I'll respond for now. If you think that your action would require a roll go a head and add it to your post. If I would have deemed it needed then it speeds up my reaction time, if I deem you don't need it that it's either something you could logically do or something that there is no way in hell that you could have.
Dor rubs the straps running down his shoulders nervously, the memories of past events are troubling him. He quickly sets his pack down and makes sure everything is properly accounted for and strapped in. Once he does so he then equally quickly rushes to keep pace with the rest of the group.
"I've got about 30 hours of oil for the lamp. Until it starts to rain, or there's a heavy fog, we should try to conserve it and collect whatever branches would make do for torches. As for everything else, I'm satisfied with what I've packed."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
”Y.you know: when i grew up with elves, I spend most of my childhood in the forests. As i see it we h.have 2 tasks. Survive for one week and find and deal with the Goblins. While we travel we should split our attention, keeping an eye open for danger and looking for signs or tracks of Goblins and d.dinner. I am very good at tracking, but i.it will take most of my attention, so i would need the rest of you to watch our s.surrounding. I would suggest ,when w.we travel, me and Boofa will be up front. Jilran and Elisha in the b.back, with one of you guarding the left side and one the right . And Dor as the healer, in the middle. Also keep eyes and ears open for w.water, won’t hurt if we can resupply ourself. “
Survival 15
I will be looking for tracks of animals and goblins, but also keep an eye open for edible plants and medical herbs.
"Taking charge, well done." Jilrana says, a friendly smile on her face as she listens to Nadariel. The lack of confidence was waning a bit, it seemed, and Jilrana could only applaud that fact. Actually, with the shadows of the trees falling over her, she was glad she could take a small respite from being her usual, upbeat self. Reality was sinking in, now that their time at the barracks was over, and long past her time growing up in the courts of the city. Sure, she was trained to survive in situations like this, but the change between training and an actual mission was tangible.
As they are making their way forward, she takes a half-step forward to softly tell Dor that she has some torches in her pack, so there should be little need to worry about their sources of light.
Nadariel moves into the forest first and after stating his thoughts begins looking for signs of animals, plants/herbs and goblins. Boofa, by his side focuses as any immediate dangers. Dor and Jilrana take to the middle and planning to provide light as needed with Elisha following up the rear. The group made their way in keeping track of their direction with a compass. Roughly two hours of travel pass by with little sign of anything important. The sound of a typical forest fills the air, birds, bugs, the rustling of leaves from small animals, the occasional cold tracks of a dear or old scrape marks from on trees from an antler. Then Boofa holds up an a hand to stop everyone. Quietly, everyone comes to a stop and silences over takes you. Then faintly you all hear it as well. The sound of an animal grunt off in the distance. Then a faint squeal, then nothing.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The initial tenseness has faded by now, so Jilrana just nods and moves in quietly after Nadariel. Surely once evening will fall some of the tension will return, but for now, this was almost boring. Just a two-hour trek into the wilderness was not at all that bad, there was even a soothing calm to the sounds of nature that was not at all unpleasant to the young Halfling.
Likes ghosts, the group uses their stealth training the creep along the forest floor. Their feet treading gently over the fallen leaves, deftly avoiding sticks on the ground. Within a few minutes Boofa had moved them in the direction of the sound and found it's source. Elisha notices the scene first and holds up a hand stopping everyone. Rounding a small cluster of trees they hear several grunts before the scene opens up in front of them. There, roughly 50 feet from them, are three goblins in grubby clothing holding knives and cutting into a recently killed boar and standing just behind them is a larger figure. Still goblin like in shape but bigger and appears to be in charge.
Dor grips the wooden shaft of his spear and leather strap of his shield tightly in his hands. Prepared for anything, he looks back to Elisha and then crouches while waiting for Nadariel's word.
Just a moment after the spells go off, Jilrana lifts her crossbow at the group of Goblins. Quick, silent and effective, as trained, her fellow soldiers are already making short work of them, and she means to do her part.
Mechanics:
If anybody is still standing after the sleep spell, Jilrana will Hand Crossbow vs that creature: Attack: 10 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll. (Rolled with advantage, just in case. If not applicable, select the first roll)
Dor prepares his shield and weapon in case an upcoming battle ensues. Nadariel and Elisha look at each other and come to the same conclusion, cast a spell. Nadariel's baths them in a bluish light causing all four of them to glow. Nearly, at the same time, the three littler goblins all slouched forward, resting on the boar, soft snores emanating from them. Jilrana, having raised her crossbow, levels it at the larger creatures back and lets loose. The bolt, hits it's mark, and buries itself deep just below it's left shoulder blade. A cry escapes it's lips and it turns around showing it's redish-orange face and a remarkably well armored torso.

Likewise! I'm not sure how much strategizing we can do now, beyond just getting the supplies we want.
DM: Can we add those to our equipment already or wait till morning?

Elisha has checked out the gear he wanted and is ready to go!
OOC: I hit the long rest button....just a reminder for the others so y'all regain spell slots (we may need them)

If i see the Elf casting a spell, i will cast faerie fire.
