Deshi's ever-present beatific expression doesn't waver during Ormond's story. He's a scribe and a professional, after all. He looks up with a start when the record is removed (just before he finished it- that missing period is going to keep him awake tonight).
Before the sheriff enters, he sits for a moment, saying quietly to himself,
"A man who has been through bitter experiences and traveled far enjoys even his sufferings after a time."
Penny stares at the doctor. "So, these pigeons are reproducing lines that exist on the original map, but are too faded to see?" She wants to be sure before she takes her next action.

"Speaking of - there's some unexpected company at this restaurant, please do your best not to attract their attention," Ormond remarks giving a pointed look at Roland.
He gives a quick glance about for additional exits.

Deshi shrugs, suddenly acutely aware of his brightly painted shell.
Just in case, he unstoppers his decanter should they require a distraction.
Penny gathers up the finished maps with the original and starts rolling them all together. “Dr. Walton, you need to tell one of these militia guys you trust that the town is in danger. I’ll take care of the maps! I’ll meet you at your museum! Go! Run! Lives are at stake!”

Dr. Walton looks around quickly, attempting to gain his bearings, “Yes, of course, right!” He’s grabs an unfinished map from the rubbish and runs to find someone.
And you are left alone!

Penny cleans house. Finished maps (all but one) rolled together. One finished copy gets folded up and placed on her person somewhere private. The original map goes in her pack. Then she collects the unfinished copies from the pigeons. “Excuse me, thank you, yes, I need that. And that, no, you have to stop drawing now.”
Unsure how this all works, she takes a blank sheet and draws a smiley face, then puts it under the “input” so they all start copying that.
Is there some sort of shredder/incinerator on the premises? If yes, she’ll dispose of the unfinished copies there. If not, she’ll carry them with her.
Then she leaves as quickly and quietly as she can, scanning the sky for Osskil. She does not head for the museum, but instead in the opposite direction.
He notices an exit toward the back, a few windows as well.
"All right," Ormond whispers to the other two, "we leave one at a time, Roland, then Deshthi, then me, out the exit that avoids the Sheriff and his merry men. Try not to bring attention to yourself - just a calm, no-nonsense walk out the door. I'll leave payment before I go."
Ormond gently taps Deshthi's shell, saying, "If we need to act, consider yourself a bit blessed." In touching their shell, Ormond provides Deshthi a vigilant blessing.
Vigilant Blessing As an action, you give one creature you touch (including possibly yourself) advantage on the next initiative roll the creature makes. This benefit ends immediately after the roll or if you use this feature again.

Nothing quite so advanced. They likely do not want fire near a public printing press. However, you get a move on! I assume that Osskil likely took to the skies at the hint of danger.

Deshi is the first to begin shuffling away. Oddly, the large turtle is unnoticed by the officers! Which, frankly, I don’t know how!

Roland scoffs at Ormond. "You shut your face. If I can pipe it down a match and let the so called "star of the show" have some glory, I can walk out of an eatery without drawing the attention of a gang of lawmen." Roland scarfs down the rest of his lunch and beer before nonchalantly walking out of the room.
