At the end of the stairs stands a small corridor that also seems like it met with the chaos of some mephits, but there are no creatures in sight. Immediately to the right stands what seems like an airlock with an assortment of chain links attached to the door. Above these links a plaque says, “Only one strong chain can guarantee success. Eliminate the weak link”
Straight ahead the hall opens up onto another room.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Nivrell approaches the door to examine the chains looking for any indication of uniqueness among them, noting as he does so the type of metal from which they are cast (an effortless feat, given his lifelong study of arcane metallurgy). Seeing the sign above, he attempts to discern its meaning. Despite his genius and enginuity, Nivrell has been plagued by dyslexia his whole life, making the sign a frustrating hurdle in this dire situation.

read sign: 17 {maybe add Int (+6)?}
Frustrated by the lack of progress and distraught by the urgency of the situation, Nivrell proceeds to the room down the open corridor to look for additional clues or other routes to access the lab space.
As Bartash's words are just ignored by Nivrell and dismissed by Juri this only increases Bartash's feelings of these foolish Izzet. Either blind to danger and quick to go into the unknown or they know what is going on here. Unsure of what would be worse he decides to follow them down. After all, he was sent here to keep things contained.
Reading the sign he says to himself Eliminate the weak A statement such as this reminds Bartash of the Upwelling. Since this door is locked Bartash will assume the current treat is not behind that door and follow the others into the next room.
He will look into the room to see if it has any other people in it or looks like it has seen destruction. (Perception 12)
When it is Zef’s turn to check out the chain, he reads the “Eliminate the weak link” sign, looks down at the chain, looks at his axe, and grunts. He does not pay much attention to it, and moves on.
This room looks like a bomb exploded in it. The floor is collapsed and along the walls several broken pipes are expelling substantial amounts of steam. Luckily those pipes seem to provide enough support to climb down to the next level.
Nivrell is cautious of the pipes, but convinced he must press on, prepares to descend. He pulls out his rope and hammers a piton into the floor, then loops the rope through his tool belt and attempts to repel down the shaft
Bartash will put his weapon on his belt again and place his shield on his back to free his hands. He will then move down to the lower part as well using the pipes to climb down. While doing so Bartash will have his tentacle hair move freely and try to feel the air to see where the steam is to try and avoid it while climbing.
(Athletics for climbing i assume 14 )
When he gets to the lower level he will still hold on to the pipes while testing the ground and carefully move a few feet on that floor to see if it is all still sturdy. He will then look around more to see if there is a treat within range already, if not he will help down any of the others that are behind him.
Juri looks at Nivrell then the rope then back at Nivrell.
“Is there really no better way? Well, if this is what the group is settling for, I guess I will follow.”

Once down with Bartash, Juri will look around looking for more of those creatures. He will also look around to see if he can determine what type of work was being done in this room.
(OOC: Well I don’t know what happened. I only edited after the roll....and it still doesn’t show all that I added..........

"I'm so sorry, I didn't know you were a group." Iveta slides over the edge and starts descending the pipes. "I hope I'm not cutting in—you know we believe in safety in numbers." She laughs nervously. "I'm just looking for my cousin Peren, he works here. My name's Iveta."

Even though he uses the rope Nivrell soon finds himself slipping, and falling down, banging off steaming pipes and hitting the floor below. he takes 4 fire damage from the pipes and 3 bludgeoning as he hits the floor below.
Bartash moves down using the pipes for hand-holds. He manages to barely keep from getting burned by the pipes,a nd reaches the floor safely. Testing it with his feet, he finds it secure enough.
Juri finds going down the rope quite easy and has no trouble navigating the steaming pipes without getting burned.
Iveta starts down the pipes, then falls as well. She takes 3 fire damage and 1 bludgeoning as she hits the floor below.
Zef climbs down as well, making it look simple as he navigates the pipes and reaches the floor below without taking any damage.
This room is covered in rubble from the floor of the room above, making this room difficult terrain. Among all the destruction three broken glass pods can be seen. Each pod is large enough to hold a small creature.
Even as the group collects themselves at the bottom of the climb down, three lightning mephits rush out of the pods and attack.
Roll initiative.

Juri looks at the door, the chains, and the sign. Smiles. Then follows Nivrell into the room.

(we will say 20 feet. Waiting on more responses before we move forward.)

Zef recognizes that he may be too heavy for the rope to hold him like it did the others. He looks for another way down.
Investigation 15
If he can't find any other way, he will jump down.
((If the investigation check does fail, what would I roll for the jump?))
You believe you can climb down just fine, there are plenty of pipes to hold on to. Just roll athletics.
