Seeing the others heading the same way, Ethan will call over to them, “Ah, I see the flames guide your steps as well!” And he’ll adjust his speed to try and pace them, but off to one side.
When we get to within 30 feet of the tower, I would like to cast Divine Sense to see if there are any celestials, fiends, or undead within 60 feet of me.
(ooc: for some reason, I can't get the tooltip command to work for Divine Sense.)
(Minimum party speed is 25, so 50 for running or “dash” every round. 2 minutes * 10 rounds per minute * 50 feet = 1000 feet. Did I do that right?)
When the blast occurred, panic could be read on all of the villagers faces. Immediately humans and orcs were pushing and running. Aldwin's calming words successful brought the villagers back to their senses. It's likely that he prevented anyone from being trampled.
Vek climbs a nearby market booth, and then balcony by balcony up onto the roof of an apartment building in record time. (12 seconds) From a top the building, Vek can see where the smoke is, and the burning building that creates it. The building is about 1000 feet away, which seems strange because it sounded like the explosion was much closer. There must have been some magical component that sent an audible wave of energy from the explosion. Vek sees that the villagers have created a bucket brigade from the river to the south. His high vantage point also provides a view of the whole town. It’s a small town of about 200 inhabitants. It’s clearly a farm town as there seem to be more fields than houses, and more animals than people.
The remainder you dash down a dirt road, and cut through a field, taking a b-line for the smoke. You skirt the edge of a densely wooded area.
As you approach the north west edge of the village, you see several townsfolk standing in the street, looking toward the source of the ominous blast. As Tsendur’s property comes into view, the severity of the destruction is clear. The single floor, wooden cottage, is on fire. The three story wooden tower attached to the east end of the cottage is also on fire and is missing most of its southern wall. A bucket lies on its side about 10 feet in front of the door. While the structure is largely intact, the fire is quickly spreading. There seems to be quite a bit of commotion, and the bucket brigade has stopped. “Something just grabbed him! It grabbed Jasper!” yells one of the villagers. He’s clearly quite distraught.
Each square is 50 feet. The green line is where the villagers were carrying water from the river to the burning building. (They have now stopped) Vek is near the market, but is also a few turns behind because I wasn't sure what he wanted to do after he climbed up for a better view.
Spotting the dropped bucket, nearer to the door, Lia frowns. "Something from inside the place grabbed him?" She asks, glancing to the townsfollk. Once they respond she will stay a good distance back from the house, but circle a bit to see if she can spot anything through a window or the missing wall of the tower.
Gimdrak uses his Divine Sense and smells the noxious odor of the undead from inside the building.
"Jasper... He was trying to put out the fire, and something from inside grabbed him and pulled him in!" The villager has an average build and height, but his hands are thick and leathery. He is likely a farmer: skilled with a pitch fork, but not a fighter.
Fizzwick comes up behind the others huffing and puffing after the 'long' run. "Oh my, um..." He swallows hard and can't hide his fear very well. "Ah, after you, big guy" he says to Gimdrak while looking nervously into the burning tower.
"Ah, hellooooo, Tsendur, you're not in there, are you? Tsendur?"
As Vek sprints towards the action, he finds a shovel leaning up against a shed in a farmer's field. Without stopping he snatches it up and continues running. "Umm hey!" A near by farm woman manages to say, "Are you going to bring that back?"
Vek, being fast, arrives at the scene just a little behind Fizzwick.
Since Gimdrak doesn't know anyone else here and he doesn't consider anyone to be a part of his team/party at this point, he feels the full burden of responsibility to protect everyone.
Looking at Fizzwick, he readies his shield and morningstar, he says, "There might be undead in there. I'm heading in," and begins to walk slowly towards the nearest entrance into the structure to start making his way towards the undead stench.
(Tonight I'll put up some more story text and an image. For now I changed the map on Roll20 to the burning building. Each square is 5 feet, and you to are standing to the south of the building. You can see two entrances : One is the front door, the other is a gaping hole made by the explosion.)
Ethan will see the Goliath and young woman headed to one entrance (gaping hole since its larger, better for two?) and he'll move towards the other entrance (front door?). He will have his shield at the ready, but will not have drawn a weapon yet, as they all get close to the door, just prior to entering, he will offer a quick prayer, "May the Lord of Flames guide our hands." (casting bless on himself, Lia and Gimdrak.)
Aldwin will set his pack down and pull out his healer's kit, conveniently in a satchel. Moving up behind the others he says, "If there is anyone still in here and they need aid. Then I'll help. I'm right behind you all." He then raises a piece of cloth over his mouth to protect himself from smoke inhalation.
Seeing the others heading the same way, Ethan will call over to them, “Ah, I see the flames guide your steps as well!” And he’ll adjust his speed to try and pace them, but off to one side.
Lia stays near the goliath, but lets him take the lead, using his larger body to make a path through any crowd that is forming.
Aldwin Whearstride (Bduds2006) - Attempts to calm the crowd, 13
then heads toward the smoke (speed 40, double for running)
Fizzwich Wobblewomp (Hexblade37) - Hurry toward the explosion. (speed 25) Casts Mage Armor.
Lia Diamonddew3 (DragonDenn) - heads toward the smoke, but lagging a bit behind. (speed 30)
Ethan Pyregaze (Ismenow) - Runs toward the smoke (speed 30)
Gimdrak (CelticSurfer) - Looking to see if anyone is injured. Heading with the others (speed 30)
Vek (Daz_Florp_Lebam) - Climbs to see more: 24, Perception:19

And, Gimdrak casts Divine Sense to see if he senses anything "evil" (or good, for that matter).

Vek drops down from his vantage point and makes a beeline for where the action is! He'll grab a shovel if he passes one. ;)
If there's any way to go faster than full move dash, here's an Athletics check: 20

"I have your back big guy." Lia says, giving the goliath a nod and following him towards the buildings.
(Does Lia still have her cross bow drawn, or is she switching to another weapon?)
