You have traveled to Durgan's Rest from Bridged City which is now to the North West. Durgan's Rest is known for it's market and brings traders from far away. One of your party members, Fizzwick, is looking forward to spending time with Tsendur, his friend, an orc mage.
While you are shopping in the market in the center of town, Boom! A massive explosion shakes your chest and rattles the earth under your feet. A magical surge is felt by the spell casters in the party. It feels both draining and suffocating, but is fleeting. A plume of smoke rises into the air to the west, and seems to grow quickly darker and denser. Fizzwick recognizes the smoke as that from a fire, and also that it is about the same direction and distance as his friend Tsendur home!
You are represented by the ring in the middle. The smoke is over to the left.
Being a protector by nature and seeing, hearing, and feeling the explosion, Gimdrak's instinct is to check and see if it looks like there is any kind of threat heading towards us. If there is, he'll want to get into a defensive position between the threat and the bystanders at the market. If there isn't, then he'll look around him to see if he notices anyone with injuries.
(I'm currently on my cell phone and I don't have the dice button to roll the dice for perception or anything.)
Ethan Pyregaze, a tall well built man with unusual red eyes and burn scarred, hairless skin wearing the armor and emblem of a faithful of Kossuth, The Lord of Flames, looks up from the vendor whose items he is perusing at the sound of the explosion and starts moving quickly, though not running, towards the smoke, "Kossuth guides my steps as always."
Aldwin, having previously been enjoying the down time, jumps at the explosion. He looks all around him and eye settle . The direction of the smoke. His arms go up and he says, "it's all right, settle down. Shh, shhhhh, shhhhh" while waving his hands in the arm at those around the small stand he was at. "Best just move along and be off the street."
Moving over to his companions he shows a worried look. "So that's the direction of the tower..." he says quietly.
Lia, a lithe half-elf with white hair and with a heavy crossbow that seemed to nearly jump into her hand as her first reaction of the explosion, glances around as she lowers the weapon. She wears black scale male armor and her gray eyes scan the streets as she moves to her companions. "Better go and check out what happened." She suggests, nodding towards the center of the blast.
Fizzwick is startled by the blast while otherwise walking around the market smiling and saying hello to everyone. The gnome stands about four feet tall with striped blue pants and a brown leather coat. Beneath a matching brown leather tophat he has white hair to go along with his white beard and impressive mustache. Despite looking potentially a bit older due the the hair the gnome has plenty of pep in his step as he gasps "oh no, Tsendur!"and scrambles back to his personal belongings and packs them away, leaving them behind and hurrying with his tiny legs towards his friends tower and the source of the explosion.
(Being intentionally vague about his personal belongings as I haven't approved anything with the DM but I picture as little as some sort of large trunk to as much as a magical trunk or a wagon of some sort containing Fizzwick's furry friends and all of his junk for his traveling magic shows and all of that. Either way I picture him quickly packing it all up safely and rushing off to start the campaign leaving everything behind for a while, so don't see this having any bearing on the campaign, just flavor for the character and his backstory.)
(Let's assume everyone has the standard adventure equipment with them including some trinket. Rope, 5 days of meals, water, bed pad, etc. If you want something else, put it on your character sheet)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Vek abandons trying to figure out which of the many raw meats for sale at the market would taste the most like victory, and exchanges knowing looks with his traveling companions. Danger! Battle? He then hoists himself up the nearest climbable structure that will hold his massive frame.
Climbing: 18
Perception (two rolls, in case he has advantage for being higher up): 22
[Hmm, I guess it just shows the best result if you choose the advantage option, so here's two rolls: 7; 19 ]
seeing at least one of their group moving towards the blast area, Lia heads that way as well, but lagging a bit behind, ready to fire her heavy crossbow at the first sign of danger she can shoot.
Seeing as everyone appears to be more or less safe for the moment, Gimdrak, an 8' tall Goliath beefcake wearing silver chain mail armor trimmed in gold with an emblem of balanced scales resting on a warhammer placed finely on the breastplate begins to join the other members of his party in heading towards the source of the explosion. He has his shield, which had the same emblem of balanced scales resting on a warhammer on it, and his morningstar at the ready just in case. He moves to catches up with Ethan and Lia.
"See anything up there?" Lia asks, craning her head up to see the towering giant-kin's face. She gives him a grin at the teasing, then grows serious again as she nods towards the plumes of smoke ahead. "If that's were the mage lived, then I worry for his safety..."
Fizzwick keeps shuffling out of the town proper and towards the tower and sees the massive stranger that is Gimdrak, who is twice his height and probably width, and says "boy I hope you're a friend of Tsendur, too" as he looks nervously at the mighty goliath.
(OOC: Do we know each other? Thus far I'm assuming Fizzwick doesn't know any of the PC's since he's just traveling through town, but I'm flexible.)
(ooc: based on some of the comments, I was just assuming that we all knew each other, honestly. If not, I can play off of that, as well. lol I'll leave it up to the DM.)

By the above I was going with the fact we were an existing group... Many descriptions of us as a party.
(That's a good question. Let's assume that you don't know each other, but will get to know each other quickly as you work together... Unless you are chaotic evil)
(ooc: Chaotic Evil?! Uh-oh... Lol. Okay, that works for me.)
Gimdrak looks over at Fizzwick while moving with purpose towards the tower and responds, "I have no idea who lives over there. I just want to do what I can to make sure everyone is okay. It looks like a threat, so I'm moving towards it, by Tyr."
Gimdrak speaks to Fizzwick in a matter of fact sort of way - not aggressive, not friendly, but not mean. To Gimdrak, it simply is what it is. And, even though he doesn't say it aloud, he's pleased to see others heading towards the danger as well.
(ooc: ugh, Sorry for my mix up. At start of the campaign I was thinking everyone knew each other, but then that begs the question of how. So, when Hexblade37 asked, I thought maybe it would make more sense of the party gets to know each other through this event.)
Fizzwick listens to Gimdrak and stops running. "Ok great, well, I hope he's ok. Let us know how it goes!"
The gnome is tempted to head back to town but wrestles with his thoughts for a moment, looking back and forth between town and Tsendur's place. Eventually he says to himself "come on, Fizzwick, what kind of Wobblewomp are you anyway" and then yells "ok, ok, I'm coming, I'm coming"to Gimdrak and does his best to keep up (but surely falls behind based on his below average speed).
(I'm flexible on knowing each other. If others want to know each other and Fizzwick needs to meet them, that will be fun to RP, too. Or perhaps they just met in town and Fizzwick did a brief magic show but they still need to get to know one another.)
Fighting his way through the crowd with much "sorrys" and ""excuse mes" Aldwin makes slow progress toward the tower. Eventually he just gives up on the niceties and begins to bump and against people to speed up his progress. He just hoped that no one got trampled or worse yet, the explosion hadn't tossed rocks into town.

It feels weird not to mark off the spell slot! haha
