Grimnir calm down the Lord's alliance followers. "See, perfect. no one got hurt.. Now let's see who is this crazy gnome.." Grimnir sits closely to the woman, waiting for Dawnbringer magic to have an effect.
Brox looks at Oorr, then pulls out Dawnbringer. She steps close to the laughing gnome and touches her slightly with the sword. Then Brox and Dawnbringer cast lesser restoration on her.
The light of the sword washes over the gnome woman. Her laughter stop abruptly, her eyes go wide, and she stares directly at Dawnbringer, unblinking. Water begins to pool in the corners of her eyes from looking into the light of the sword. Just when you begin to worry something has gone wrong, she breaks into fits of laughter again.
You recall that when the Stonespeaker cured you in Gracklstugh, it required a Greater Restoration for the more severe form of the madness. The magic of the sword is unfortunately not enough to heal her.
"Well, there's not much we can do for her now...She needs the care of a higher priest"
Grimnir turns to his fellow Lord's Alliance "Maybe one of you could bring her back to safety in the closest city? Anyone would like to volunteer ?"
OOC: I'm ok to spare one of my follower to bring the gnome to safety
Nazrok Blueaxe casts a glance at the other guards before quickly stepping forward. "If it s'alright with you sir, I'd be 'appy to take the wee gnome. We're not but a day from the entrance, so I'm sure I can get 'er 'ome safely." He hefts his halberd on his shoulder and gives a nod.
Once arrangements have been made, Nazrok and the laughing deep gnome set off back the way you came. The lesser restoration seems to have at least stifled the laughter somewhat, and she goes along willingly with the dwarf guard. They disappear around a corner in the tunnel behind you, and are gone.
Oorr will attune to the Underdark to detect extraplanar beings (Primeval Awareness, 6 miles).
Oorr, you're still in the upper levels of the Underdark. You do sense elementals, and you can feel the effects of Faerzress in the area, but no other creatures you would detect with your awareness.
You organize those left and with Oorr and the Zhentarim scouting the way, you find a path around the steam vents, and avoid most of the danger. I takes a bit longer traveling through the vented area with such a large party could prove disastrous.
Once through, the Zhentarim pick up their path again, and you continue through the tunnels. Almost a tenday from the time you entered the cavern above ground, you encounter a tunnel that is awash in mud. It seems that water may have used to fill this area, but due to movements in the depths, it has since been drained. Oorr is able to fly and scout ahead, and finds a suitable path for the large party. You end up navigating it, and losing very little time in the process.
Another few days pass.
Oorr, towards the middle of the night on the 16th day since you entered into the Underdark, two of the scouts come to you and say they've spotted some creatures. They appear to be walking mushrooms, Myconid. According to their maps, you aren't far from the area of the Neverlight Grove. They ask what they should do, if they should engage the creatures, or try to navigate away from them.
Aligor nods, and leaves with several other spies to make contact. Several hours pass before Aligor returns.
"We've made successful contact. They claim to be followers of Sovereign Basidia, and sir... they say they know who you are. They have asked for us to rendezvous at a specific location, and under no circumstances are we to travel any closer to the Neverlight Grove. What would you have us do?"
« Basidia is alive ? »said Grimnir with a big smile . "That’s a good news ! Agree let’s meet them. They might give us some fresh info on the Underdark!"
Aligor and the other Zhentarim spies lead you to an small cavern with branching paths. Here you meet three myconid adults, who seem both excited to see you, and a little apprehensive about the location. One of the adults is somewhat familiar to you, and upon the release of rapport spores, you realize this is Hendrix, the myconid who helped you find your way to Blingdenstone when you and the followers of Basidia fled the evil machinations of Sovereign Phylo, who had sold out the grove to Zuggtmoy's influence.
"Hey there, I, uh, didn't think we'd be seeing you again, but here you are," says Hendrix through the spores. "We should get a move on, it's a little dicey here so close to the Neverlight Grove. Phylo has been busy recruiting more to his cause. Uh, we're this way." Hendrix takes one of the paths. It's narrow, so your entourage has to follow single file.
After several hours of travel, you reach an slightly larger cavern, where the Myconid tell you your followers will have to stay. They are only comfortable going on with the four of you, and it would be crowded anyway.
You pass through a narrow hallway, and you see Hendrix release spores towards a moss covered wall. The moss and fungus break apart suddenly, revealing a hidden passageway that he then leads you down. The air cools somewhat, and you smell a tinge of mildew in the air as you enter into a large chamber of mushrooms and fungus with several myconid adults and sprouts tending gardens, and others prepping weapons and looking at tables with papers on them.
Suddenly a voice carries to you through the spores. "You came back! You came back!"and a familiar looking sprout comes bounding towards Grimnir and leaps into his arms. Toddering along behind that one comes a more melancholy sprout. "Wasn't sure we'd see you again," says Rumpadump, as Stool nuzzles against the dwarf monk.
Not long after the reunion, Sovereign Basidia emerges. She thank Hendrix, and he and his scouts go back out to do their rounds.
"You have returned, though I wish I could say things were better..." muses Basidia. "Phylo rules Neverlight still. We put up some resistance, but mostly we keep hidden. You would do well to avoid this area. What are you plans? Why have you come back to this place?"
"I greet you Basidia. I am glad you are well, although sad to hear about the Grove. We have come back to put an end to the madness and the Chaos. But we need knowledge first. Have you ever heard of a Stone Giant Library of Gravenhollow?"
"I am sorry, but we do not know of the library. Is there something there can help us rid Phylo of this madness? If so, you should continue on your journey. We will watch for signs of activity in the Neverlight Grove and inform you of anything that happens."
"Aww, do you have to leave right away?" says Stool.
Stool, and few other sprouts express amazement and begin to gather around Grimnir and the basilisk. Basidia releases some concerned spores, but does not otherwise say anything about the creature.
She continues, "My scouts can show you a safe route around the grove for you and your friends. I am afraid that as many of you as there are, it will not be enough for what comes, but it is good that you have returned. May your circle be true. You may rest if you need it, and we have many good mushrooms to nourish you as you go."
"Basidia, maybe you know of a place called Mantol-Derith? It is a place where mammals use to trade goods. Any help in getting safely there would be great."
"Basidia, maybe you know of a place called Mantol-Derith? It is a place where mammals use to trade goods. Any help in getting safely there would be great."
"Yes, it is known to us. We can help show you the way, and avoid Neverlight Grove. Be wary, something has changed in the city of Mantol-Derith. We used to trade there as well, but it is no longer safe. The factions squabble, but we do not know over what," replies the Sovereign.
She signals to some of the others, and they provide food and water for you, and to take to your entourage. Hendrix let's you know he will guide you when you are ready. Stool asks you if you won't stay for just a little while. Rumpadump, tries to convince him you have better things to do than hang out with sprouts.
"Sorry Stool, we have something really important to do. But I promise you, we'll come back to check up on you."
Then, thinking of what Basidia said, Grimnir ask his friends. "Well, I have this object that allows me to scry. If Mantol-Derith is unsafe, should I try to scry on our contact over there : Ghazrim DuLoc ? Or I could also try to locate Khaleesa , our Lord's Alliance agent who went missing...What do you say ?
As his "Circle" nods, Grimnir sits quietly and take his Crystal Ball of True Seeing. After asking around for information about his targets, Grimnir try to focus and scy Ghazrim DuLoc and his environment.
