(And how far is it to Cython? How much time would we loose going at the merchants pace?)
Cython would be about 2 miles away by our measurements. They carry items, so you would lose at most 45min if you got through the forest without any trouble.
Slightly defeated, Zadoris slumps for a moment and says to himself, "And there goes the negotiation, a free ride to risk the life of ourselves and our charge." He let's out a sigh and then picks himself up tosses his gear in the wagon and prepares to walk if there isn't enough horses or space to ride in.
"Okay, let’s help these people get their shipments to Cython. If we stay here discussing for another half of an hour, we could have made half of the way already. Maybe they can help us to get closer to our destination in return."
Zargaroth follows Zadoris and jumps up into the cart from the back, examining the goods it carries.
With Eira in front of the carriage, Zargaroth would act as a rear guard, either riding a horse or in the back of the cart. In a moment when he feels unwatched, he would summon Mara (he doesn't want any of the others to know about her) and send her away to circle the group and watch out for anything suspicious.
With enough space in the cart, Zadoris removes the sheath and sword from his belt to better sit. He closes his eyes and goes over in his mind what he knows of his new companions. He met a few before but mostly their stories and exploits had reached his ears.
Moving up to one of the horses they were going to be riding, Ethan checks over the saddle and adjusts the stirrups. He pats the horse's neck as he talks soothingly to the mount. Once he has accustomed the horse to him, he would mount, then adjust his great sword so it was angled down to one side, at an easy angle to draw if needed.

Ethan and Eira ride their horses alongside the carriage. Zargaroth, Zaldoris, and Cora sit in the back of the merchants’ carriage, which is led by the woman that requested your assistance. While the others are busy, Zargaroth summons Mara to circle the group through the forest.

About 20 minutes into the travel through the forest, you all hear rustling and footsteps around the carriage. The three inside the carriage do not see where the sound came from, but Ethan and Eira do. There are flashes of green and brown moving through the bushes around you. A large group of bandits emerge and stand in front the carriage. Just so you can all imagine it, there is a straight line of 12 enemies. They are 30ft away from all of you.

Zargaroth, wrapped in his dark clothing, hood up, moves into the space between the two groups. Then throws his hood up, summons his Rapier to his hand and scowls at the bandit leader. Trying to intimidate them he shouts:
"You dare to get in our way. Foolish humans, always so eager to meet their end."
Intimidation: 19
(If you let me, Zargaroth will use Thaumaturgy to make his voice louder and deeper. If not, well then he just shouts.)
Almost forgott: Mara will fly to the tree closest to Zargaroth, observing the fight, ready to act when Zargaroth calls for her and otherwise just enjoying the show.
Ethan strides straight up to the one he believes to bhe the leader. "You should have picked a different target this day..." He informs the leader, his friendly demeaner gone now and a ruthlessness in his voice and eyes. He then sprouts a pair of skeletal wings and his eyes turn into pools of darkness...
Necrotic Shroud (DC is 15) Starting at 3rd level, you can use your action to unleash the divine energy within yourself, causing your eyes to turn into pools of darkness and two skeletal, ghostly, flightless wings to sprout from your back. The instant you transform, other creatures within 10 feet of you that can see you must each succeed on a Charisma saving throw (DC 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier) or become frightened of you until the end of your next turn. Your transformation lasts for 1 minute or until you end it as a bonus action. During it, once on each of your turns, you can deal extra necrotic damage to one target when you deal damage to it with an attack or a spell. The extra necrotic damage equals your level. Once you use this trait, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
Then, as his bonus action, he casts Divine Favor on himself.

(Can we go with both? Take our loaned horses alongside the merchants?)
(was not aware the merchants had horses... I am fine just using those, if they want to mention they have some...)
(And how far is it to Cython? How much time would we loose going at the merchants pace?)
Yes, I suppose you could.
They would send out shipments by carriage, so they do have horses.

"Very well..." Ethan says, stepping back. "If the merchants here have horses, then I think I am ready to head out."

((There is enough space for everyone in the carriage. Think like this type.))
What do you guys want to do?

Zargaroth follows Zadoris and jumps up into the cart from the back, examining the goods it carries.
Eira rides a horse or walks outside of the carriage, keeping an eye out for the bandits the merchants mentioned.
Cora rides in the carriage, peeking out once in a while to look at the scenery.
