Ashehee song came to an end, as she felt the awkward glances come her way. She was used to this. She reminded herself that those who have not fully opened their hearts to the Silver Flame are uneasy around those who do the Flame's work.
She began to inspect those around her, forcing a smile. Everyone is capable of being saved, but part of the eternal battle against the enemies of goodness and love was determining who in fact needed the most persuasion. Sometimes such persuasion came with words. Sometimes song. Sometimes Ashehee's hammer spoke for her, with devastating effectiveness.
Ashehee's eyes darted around the group, sizing each member of this collective of companions. Her gaze lingered on the Hobgoblin and Orc woman.
(Religion Check on each member of the group. Looking for signs of worship/faith in dress and attire, and trying to recall what I know about the faith of hobgoblins and orcs: 1d20 + 2: 3
(UGH. Hopefully the bad rolls come early lol. Just getting them out of the way now!)
Ashehee sees no signs of faith or worship in the way that Klobs and Zomith dress. She recalls that orcs most likely worship the gods of the Sovereign Host, possibly revere specifically Dol Arrah or Dol Dorn, both of them favor the strong. Ashehee doesn't seem to recall any religious lore related to hobgoblins.
(Poor, poor Ashehee. Get those bad rolls out! In other news: after a few more RP posts, indicate when you are all ready for a time skip in OOC!)

Slade nods in acknowledgment to the merchant's response, "That is strange behavior indeed, friend, what of raiders do not do not bother with the actual raiding? Perhaps, at least they will not bother with us at least then."
Slade's ears perk up at Aurelia's query. With a quick nod to the merchant, he turns towards the conversation.
"Ah yes, Dahme'dre, exactly what business does a member of the glorious House Cannith have trudging along with the rest of this fine company? As my brief chat with out illustrious employer indicates, I have interest in the activities of cultists in these parts. Perhaps our goals align once again?"
Eleth's ears perk up at the sound of "cultists" Glancing over at Aurelia she makes a mental note to watch these two closely. Nudging the annoying longbow on her back to a better position, Eleth picks up her pace; hands unconsciously caressing her amulet.
Aurelia picked up on the last sentence the cloaked man said.
goals align once again? It seems these two know each other?
Aurelia considers her elven friend's warning. Her keen danger sense had been right many times in the past, and Aurelia had learned to trust the wood elf's instincts. In a low voice, she responds.
"You're right. Advertising our location can only bring bad news."
However, the woman's voice showed confidence and power, and the way she carrier her hammer made it obvious she was not concerned about any kind of attack on the caravan. In fact, her body language almost seemed to suggest she would welcome it.
Returning to face the human, Aurelia responds.
"I had not heard about this unrest before. Cultists? Raids? Times are strange indeed."
Aurelia impulsively wants to tell everyone about the voice she heard. She bites down, remembering what happened when she told the "church" members about it. And that armored woman outside with her battlehammer... If she was corrupt like the deacon, it might be asking for trouble to bring this up now.
"A team you say? There is certainly an advantage to strength in numbers, especially when trouble is organized. It would make sense to get the lay of the land together when we arrive."
Not wanting to be rude, and also sensing that it could be dangerous to offend the cloaked man, she turns her head to acknowledge him:
"Do you two know each other? I am Aurelia, and my companion here is Eleth"
(OOC: Is it Ashelee or Ashehee? Different posts are contradictory. And how is everyone's name pronounced?)
(It's Ashehee, I just remembered it as Ashelee when I was writing my post. I've fixed it on the front page. Also, Thordain, could you please put your dialogue in quotations? It is really hard for me to read w/o quotations. Thank you.)

Slade performs a short bow in acknowledgement to Aurelia, "Ah. Yes. Apologies, usually my missions require more secrecy than the current one. Difficult habit to break. I am Slade of Aundair. I assume none of you are dragon cultists then? None of you really seem the sort. Otherwise, this may prove to be a very ackward conversation."
Seeing Eleth's clear apprehension, Dahme'dre gives her a friendly smile and a curt nod at her introduction, but will not press her further. She'll come around in time... I do hope time isn't working against us...
Dahme'dre looks over to the Paladin.
"And how about you? Have you come to spread the word of The Silver Flame to this small town? You aren't dressed for evangelism... Perhaps you've come to... 'Bring light to the darkness' as they say."
Eleth's emerald green eyes flashed in anger as her hand moved unfettered toward the mace on her belt. "Cultists!" she hissed! "Never would I be one of those foul beings. They need exterminated like the vermin they all are!" Taking a deep breath, she nods at the cloaked man, "Forgive my outburst sir, it has been a long road and i am weary."
Slade takes half a step back at Eleth's flash of anger. By the Triumvarite, that one is terrifying. At least her wrath seems to be pointed in the right direction...for now.
Slade clears his throat, "Apologies, my lady, I did not mean to infer. It seems, however, at least we seem to share some goals. Those cultists are up to no good, and I mean to get to the bottom of it."
"So it seems good sir. Forgive my outburst as i have no love for these cultists and if you are to put an end to them, you have an ally in me." Eleth bows slightly to Slade.
"You'll have to forgive my friend his sense of humor. He's been on the road so long it seems he's forgotten how to behave among... Finer company. You know how men can be: handy to have around when you'd like something carried, if only their eyes and their mouths didn't get in the way."

"And how about you? Have you come to spread the word of The Silver Flame to this small town? You aren't dressed for evangelism... Perhaps you've come to... 'Bring light to the darkness' as they say."
Ashehee turns to Dahme'dre and responds, "Evangelism comes in many forms. Force is frequently necessary to remove the disease so the healthy of faith can survive. and prosper. Yes, I do the Silver Flame's work, and I intend to to cure what ails the area in the name of the Silver Flame. My armor and weapons are some of the instruments I use to spread the word."
Ashehee affixes her Warhammer to her back and casually grabs a waterskin from her priest pack. The fresh water replenishes her. "You should join me in prayer tonight Dahme'dre," she says as she takes another gulp of water, "Prayer, reflection, faith and service nourish the soul like this water nourishes my body. Both need sustenance."
Eleth looks toward Ashehee. "Prayer and reflection is fine, but the true nourishment comes from Nature. She can be fickle but she will sustain those who ask it of her."
Aurelia looks at Ashehee. Part of me wants to talk to her about the voice of the flame, but what if she's just brainwashed with church doctrine?, she thinks. Maybe I should try to find our if her allegiance is to the church, or if it is to the flame itself.
"You proudly wear the symbol of the sacred flame", say says Aurelia to Ashehee. "Do you have an active role within the church hierarchy?"
Eleth looks toward Ashehee. "Prayer and reflection is fine, but the true nourishment comes from Nature. She can be fickle but she will sustain those who ask it of her."
(OOC: Sounds fine to me as well.)
Ashehee looks slightly annoyed at Eleth. The elf's words border on blasphemy, as only the Silver Flame offers TRUE nourishment. Ashehee doesn't bother to respond.
Instead, she abruptly turns to Aurelia and says, "Pride is a sin. I wear the symbol out of duty, not pride." She continues, "I have no time for bureaucrats and Church administrators. While they 'plan to plan' in expensive robes I do the Silver Flame's work by providing the ultimate service to the Church. I eliminate evil and sinners. That is my calling. My sole purpose. My agenda. My life. I have no interest in hierarchies. I leave that to the talkers."
Ashehee puts her waterskin back in her priest pack and grabs her Warhammer again. The talk is starting to annoy her, but the feel of steel in her hand soothes her. It always has...
Aurelia nods, suddenly feeling tired. She doesn't want to get into a protracted theological discussion. At least Ashe doesn't seem like a church flunky. None of the travelers here seem to be overtly church related. Aurelia leans back, and tries to close her eyes to get some sleep before their arrival.

(All of the religions tend to deny each other, particularly those with gods. Many of them consider gods of other religions to be misinterpretations of their own gods. So, for example, a member of the Church of the Silver Flame will believe someone who follows the Sovereign Host to be someone who is worshiping false gods. Of course, just like in real life, you may judge people on the content of their character as opposed to their belief system or you could see them as someone to be converted.
An extra tidbit about this setting: Deities do not walk the mortal planes nor any planes you can reach. Instead, it is up to each person's belief what they truly believe. There are forms of heresy, and depending on where you are, you must watch what you say. Particularly in Thrane or Karrnath.
I will be following this post up with a DM post moving the story along. Hang tight!)
