The armored man speaks in a hushed voice, but loud enough for you all to hear. "Listen well, travelers. I am Guard Captain Storgern Hallowgazer. I lead the guard at the Vaults of Nankon. For those of you who are new to these lands, this building houses a vast collection of powerful artifacts. Over the past two days, artifacts have been going missing. We assume they'rebeing stolen, of course. We're not sure how, though. And that's where you all come in."

Thorin puts his ale down and leans forward, "So just how many of these artefacts are ya missing Hallowgazer? An' what could it possibly be that we might offer that the mighty guards of the vaults canno'?
He laughs nervously. "Well, the guards aren't exactly 'mighty', as you say. If this were nearly a two hundred years ago, different story. But anyways, we're missing two: the Leumme Wand and the Loyal Staff of Cutuna. They've disappeared from right under our noses in the night. You all can hopefully provide some more insight into our problem, possibly being able to track the culprit where we cannot. Also, if you come with me tonight, you can hopefully provide extra eyes and ears. What say you all?"
Replying to Trinity, he says "an artifact is an item imbued with great power. Stolen means that something is taken by someone who shouldn't have taken it."
Thorin looks at Trinity, having not gotten her name as yet and confused as to how she doesn't know what those things mean. "Lass, are you okay? I know I've had a bit ta drink already tonight an' am a wee hazy, but are ya sure you not been knocked in the head or somethin'? Name's Thorin. Thorin Ironfist. Do ya know your name at least?"
In reply to Hallowgazer's request to accompany, Thorin slams his fist on the table, causing his ale to slosh over a little. "Ha! A good bit o' drink, an' now some adventure! Count me in ya daft captain. Can't have yer wee artefacts gone missin' fer long. I'm always up fer travel an' adventure... as long as there's some brilliant ale in there somewhere too!" He stands up quickly, knocking over his chair.
"I'm Driz... Ummm.... You can call me Trinity, it's easier that way. And I lived in the middle of a forest for my whole life, until about a month ago, when... When my mom died. I was lucky to find a, a, ummm, what's it this called with all the building, but not as many building as this place, ohh yeah, town."
Upon hearing of the recent death of Trinity's mother, Thorin sobers somewhat, bowing his head in seriousness, "I'm sorry ta hear that lass. Though it's nice ta meet ya, Trinity. Stick with me an' I'll take care o' ya. I'm no the brightest, but I'm sure I can teach ya a thing or two!" He says the last part, brightening up to give her a cheery smile.
"Well, yer not constrained to follow in her path, Trinity. Mourn as ya need, but then pick yerself up an' go about findin' what makes ya happy." Thorin, still standing, suddenly remembers something and makes his way to the bar and slops one of his water skins onto the bar, "Barkeep! Might I trouble yer ta fill 'er up with some ale? Need to make sure I'm well stocked 'fore this captain whisks us all away."
Tikea thinks about the offer for a moment, then smiles. "Vaults, missing artifacts, and a mysterious heist? This my friends is the start of quite the story. Who am I to say no to that? I'm in!"
At mention of the vaults, Grix's attention is fully captured, and without quite knowing why he looks directly at the Captain and responds "I will accompany you....what might be on offer for our services?" then shakes his head briefly, before listening to Trinity's recount of her recent trauma and adding his own "I too recently.....lost my family....and regardless of why, their absence is hard to deal with"

But come now, we have no time to waste getting there!" He stands up triumphantly and heads for the door.

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
With no where to stay Grix drains the last of his ale, gives his regards to the inn-keep and stands to follow the Captain...but somewhat cautiously, keeping an eye on the shadows and surrounds as they walk (not that he is overly perceptive mind you)
Perception14 (and obviously far more interested in what the captain might say than his own safety it seems)
"Tell me Captain - what more can you tell us while we are walking. I do want to know a little bit more as to what I have just volunteered for....."
"Well, young soldier, you are wise to ask. See, there are few who would wish to steal the artifacts. The most notable that comes to mind is the Under-Potentate. A lich who has plagued Inigus for centuries. While he has never been more than a thorn in our side, he still presents quite a threat to all the living. He and his army reside in the Old Vaults, or the Crypts, below the Vaults themselves. There is one way in and out of them, and we have had it heavily guarded since the first artifact went missing. That is to say, no one has come from them or gone into them. Since we have no ideas as to who is doing this, we need some extra eyes and ears tonight, and possibly all other nights, to help catch him or her. And if it does turn out to be the Under-Potentate, we'll need stronger heroes than just the guards of the Vaults." He explains.

You know. things like rings, crowns, bottles, jars, mirrors. The random stuff like that." Captain Hallowgazer replies.

After a short but tiring walk through some grasslands, you arrive at the destination. It's a multistory building made of a marble material. Through the windows, faint torchlight can be seen. A tall metal fence surrounds the building.
"Welcome to the Vaults of Nankon. This is a privilege few experience. Note though, that any transgression will result in the highest punishment. Anyways, if Nankon smiles on us today, we can catch whoever is doing this and be done with it all. The Vaults will be restored, and you will be known as those who restored the Vaults." He smiles at you all, then proceeds to the doors.
As he approaches, the other guards salute him, standing completely firm until they notice you all in line behind him. "It's okay, they're with me. They're the help I've brought for tonight." He says. They stand easier, but still watch you all. Inside the building, massive shelves run from the floor up to the arched ceiling, containing all kinds of artifacts. In one are, you see weapons and such, armor in another, and then miscellaneous items in another. Captain Hallowgazer shows you the section you are to watch over tonight.
Grixeor feels a small urge to examine a ring he passes at one point, with a black gem in it that appears to have swirls in it. Otherwise, you all set up in a small opening in the shelves to rest and watch.

Trinity looks lost and confused. "Yes, ummm.... Two questions. 1 what's an artifact, 2 what does stolen mean?"
