Rictor takes off his hat and waves at the newcomer with it, smiling bright. "Welcome! We could always use another pair of hands - and trust me, they're gonna be full."
He nods at Keth and scratches at his stubbly chin. "Sounds like a plan. I need to be summoning a companion of my own when we get a chance to rest for a spell," he says with a sly little smirk at his very-much-intended pun.
Keth gives out a loud unique whistle and before long a dark feathered golden eagle settles onto the lower branches of a nearby tree. Keth, closes his eyes and centers himself, connecting with the spirits of the wild and aligning himself with his long time friend. As the ritual of Beast Sense end Keth is sharing the body of his ally.
The bird takes off and Keth watches for anything he can see in the area as the group moves.
It's been 3 days since you last spoke with Boss Bennet and he gave you your instructions to find the missing cattle and find the rustlers and the ride has been a bit boring, hot and long. You've had to stop several times to stretch your legs, let the horses rest, eat and just move around as to not develop "Saddle Sores" on your hind parts.
The mornings have a slight chill to them but the days get a heat about them that you sweat a bit while riding.
The nights are dark in the grasslands. Cool breezes cascade across the grassland that cause an almost constant sound of grass rustling that can be a bit unnerving at times.
The party has little encounters as they make their way following the tracks of the missing herd. A hawk here and there during the day and mostly crickets at night, though a couple times the howls of a wolf pack can be heard in the distance.
It the evening of the 3rd day that you come across the ravine. its about a 14 ft. drop from where you are riding. There is a small faint stream that run the length of the ravine and small juniper trees dot the landscape. You find a way down, your horses eager to get a drink of water when you hear: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0HgEEY2jts some 40 yards ahead. Visibility is blocked by underbrush and a couple juniper trees.
Celeste has been SO BORED. She hated this part of the job. Riding long distances was the worst part of her job description. She does, however, entertain herself in the evenings by mixing up brews with her alchemy kit. She hasn't made anything practical yet, but she is always interested in seeing how the reagents interact. It does, unfortunately, lead to some bad smells, as she mixes in ingredients she finds along the road.
Now, hearing the cows, she heaves a sigh of relief, then quickly suppresses it, not wanting to alert any nearby to her presence. She gets down and starts preparing to join the ambush.

Well, each of you make your way through the growth, various wildrye, blue grasses and a few throne bushes here and there, you come out the other side to see 14 head of cattle in a bend in the ravine. They are stationary and there appears to be a make shift carrel of old tree limbs and rope hemming in the cattle to 1 spot. The ravine stream runs through the midst of the carrel.
To the left approximately 60 ft. from where the cattle seems to be kept there appears to be an opening in the side of the ravine wall. It is approximately 5 ft. in height and 2 ft. wide. The opening has old timber supports framing it and there is an old dead bush whose leaves appear to have fall off some time ago, about 4 ft. from the entrance.
Celeste-you are the first to notice a Burro in the midst of the cattle. Its short stout body and legs come below the make shift fence around the cattle. The burro's ears seem to perk up.
"Keth- you think you can work your horse whispering magic on this damned jackass?" Rictor keeps his voice low and nods at the approaching donkey, wincing at every loud braying sound it made.
Rictor readies an action. If he sees any enemies approach their location he'll let loose an Eldritch Blast at them.
Replying in an equally low tone, "I am better with birds my friend. Burros scare me quite frankly." The last comment obviously made in jest but Keth too looks back and forth from the honking donkey to the cave entrance, nervous of the sounds.
Watching Val shape into a coyote, Celeste is amazed. "How do I learn to do that?" She then goes to try to prevent the cows from leaving the ravine. This idiot animal is likely to spook the cows..

Val-Roll a Nature check-with advantage, as well as a Intimidation check-with disadvantage
The party also notices 2 goblin heads peering out from the entrance. They seem to be looking out but, do not come out in the sunlight. They do not seem to see you at this time but are looking in the direction of the burro.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Clay removes his Winchester Rifle from his saddle rifle scabbard and takes up position watching the entrance. He drops in to a shooting crouch, bracing the rifle on his knee.
The burro does retreat to about 5 ft. from the herd. It turns and faces the coyote, leans its head forward and down with it's mane bristles standing up and ears up. The burro brays again at the coyote. It seems it is fiercely defending the herd. The herd on the other hand makes no motion to move and seem to ignore the burro.
The goblins, on the other hand, seem to be looking out more. They do not seem to have spotted the party or the coyote, which is curious.
Rictor hesitates to cast his spell when he sees the goblin peek out, noticing that it can't seem to see them. Instead of an attack he casts Thaumaturgy, creating the distinct sound of a mountain lion's howling roar from 30 feet to the party's right in an attempt to distract the goblins and hopefully the burro.

Val nods at the stranger and raises an eyebrow at the accent. (What sort of southern accent?)
Then takes the reins for Keth as the two of them get to work
