What] did the shaman roll against fast friends? With -4
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
This Mug immediately shared with me a transcendental tale of an Infinite Mug that anchors the Universe and keeps it from folding in on itself. I filed this report under "illogical nonsense" and asked why its sign is in Times New Roman font, when it is basic knowledge that Arial Black is a far superior font. I wondered: How did this mug even get past the assembly line with its theistic beliefs and poor font choices?
quote from Romantically Apocalyptic byVitaly S Alexius
A shaman casts a spell and summons a roiling fog coalescing from the cool air blowing in from the west tunnel, forming a heavily obscured sphere of fog 20ft across near that side of of the room. This occluded rhe exit. Overlapping this area, the smooth marble floor sprouts from cracks between tiles a monument of torns and brambles, covering a 20ft area in the center of the room.
Cormac and Leann run into the fray as the thicket erupts all around them, their momentum hurtling them toward the stone golem, even as thorns and nettles lacerated their flesh.
Leann: 20
Cormac: 8
As they make their attacks, another shaman casts a spell in draconic <Sam and anyone else who understands draconic check the spoiler>
"Belly sliders, fang in jaw. Split tongues find flesh to fill your maw." The shaman chants.
The stone golem looks down at the barking metal dog and slaps both hands down over it. The unmoving eyes peer up as the statues neck bends to see the furry Feline humanoid angrily staring back at him. Abruotly rising, the statue hurls a piece of hard earth loosened from the slamming attack toward the nimble artificer. Huarache's cat-like reflexes, however do not serve him well this day.
Leann is not continuing into the spiked growth if she starts to take damage. She simply stops and retreates from it. I had assumed these were coming in from the same direction of the others. If not, then she is likely to stay near the door the boy is behind, and not rush towards the stone statue at all.
Ooc: Huarache has a hammer in one hand and a shield in the other, casting the spell shield requires a somatic component, thus one free hand. Even if I allow him to drop the shield as a free action (which RAW doesn't work as it has a doff time of 1 action (phb p.146)) that would only leave a shield protected Huarache, shieldless with AC 25, so he still gets crushed under a rock.
The fog cloud is just in front of the door, making it "hard to find" doesn't really do too much in combat, but i think it's what the shaman guard would do. Also uses the established environmental effect if the strong cold wind coming from the subterranean river through the door over there.
(If anyone doesn't know it, this is the player who enabled content sharing for this campaign. I'd rather he not be forever dead)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Ooc: Glasnost: I was assuming only one of the shamans (shamen?) Would be casting the conjure animals spell. I'm kind of on the fence about this one because it's just bonkers, but I think I'm gonna go for it. If one loses concentration anything he conjures goes poof, so it's really just likely to be a single round effect.
16 giant poisonous snakes begin to slither their way across the floor, appearing throughout the room near various figures. None appear in the fog cloud, but 7 snakes appear just outside it and slink in, waiting for anyone trying to escape so they may unleash their fangs into their unsuspecting heels. (They have blindsense, so fog doesn't really effect them, also very high perception so sneaky people aren't safe either).

From the PHB: "A spellcaster must have a hand free to access a spell's material components — or to hold a spellcasting focus — but it can be the same hand that he or she uses to perform somatic components."
From ERFtLW and TCoE: "After you gain the Infuse Item feature at 2nd level, you can also use any item bearing one of your infusions as a spellcasting focus." (The "also" refers to the previous paragraph's statement that tools are required for any artificer spells, but that is irrelevant here.)
Huarache's shield, which has the Enhanced Defense infusion, is his focus for all mechanical reasons, and it is on his side of the shield that he keeps various things in pouches that I throw around for flavor when he casts combat spells. As such, he can use the arm that holds his shield for somatic components. Also, I'm honored that I'm so important to the campaign.
I'm sorry that I can't properly cite by page number; all my D&D material is online.

You wanted to move the entire length of the room and attack in a turn if possible. If initiative turned out the other way, that still would have been allowed. I'm thinking she's running and now as she closes in spiked vines come jumping up from the floor on all sides. Mechanically its somewhat distinct in that you aren't moving until the AOE is a go, but I'm striving to use this new initiative system to make the game more dynamic; its not like you're really standing around waiting for the other side to do stuff. Mine is by far more a storytelling game than a tactical game, and the dynamism and fog of war and surprise are something I really like about this initiative system.
Still, I do hate to limit player agency - so if you're not in the weeds, the snakes take no damage and 2 more looking around the east side who previously found nobody can now target Leann. Here's 2 attack rolls vs the paladin hiding in the corner. 8, 4
Surprisingly, (I had previously misread this item) p.11 of TCoE states that ALL SPELLS cast by an artificer are converted to "M" spells.
Now that you've got me into the nitty gritty of the RAW, I considered something I previously overlooked(?) The power armor I greenlit for the purpose of getting over a gap was a creative and interesting solution to the problem at hand, but .. my issue is that it is specifically a feature of the class you're playing and not yet available.
Arcane Propulsion Armor
Prerequisite: 14th-level artificer
I have an issue with this because it devalues class features. (similar to how the thing we're talking about devalues the warcaster feat). It's fine that its an infusion; you seem to have a spare slot for that, but we really shouldn't have kept it with all these features if it's supposed to be a reward for reaching a higher level not yet attained.
I'll finalize this ruling in the morning, (maybe a bit later than morning).
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
CORMAC reaches the statue, leaping through a ball of vines to find stone with his blade. it scratches the sculpted surface and a mark, deep red in color, appears where those scratches were made.
Lizardmen dive as they run in what must be an aftershock of the timeshift effect used here earlier, flames licking at their tails as they runs then dive, propelled by the blast of flame, before falling at normal speed into the rubble that was the wooden dais.
<<ooc: I don't really think fireball hits the shaman after movement as drawn on the map, line of sight limitation from statue position puts it pretty far left, but.. this map is really fuzzy, by which I mean its just an impression of the theater of the mind I'm really using here. So here's some shaman Dex saves and Con saves.>>
Sh1 Dex:6, Con: 21
Sh2 Dex:3, Con: 13
(1 and 3 are the ones conjuring animals and retreating)
Huarache, somehow emerging from a seemingly direct hit by a huge rock, evidently unscathed, swings his brightly glowing hammer into the statue and chips the leg. (Anything from Echo - I think the slam missed her? )
most PCs need to make saves vs. poison (Dc11 Con for 1/2 the poison damage per successful bite).

Was I able to reach the statue to attack. If so I’d also like to apply my mark of castigation to it.

The snakes readily notice the man who is hiding there and proceed to bite.

I wrote a really long explanation to Huarache's point about the arcane focus, then I deleted it accidentally. Here are the key points:
The PHB rule cited only applies to "M" spells - straight from JCraw, find it in sage advice https://dnd.wizards.com/articles/sage-advice/rules-spellcasting
