Dorian will relay this. "We probably shouldn't sneak up on them, it seems rude,"he says. He'll start ritually preparing Detect Magic, just in case.
Rituals take 10 extea minutes. If you want to change this to use a spell slot, that's fine, but it's your choice. 100 yards seems far, but the boat was moving 440ft/min, (the extra time is from the continuous slowing), but as it stands, you're only halfway through ritual casting at landfall.

Leann's divine sense does not tingle, unless someone's familiar is a fiend or celestial. I'd have to check that.
"Howzit?" offers Huarache, trying to break the tension in the party and the ice in the (metaphorical) room. "You're looking a little worse for wear. What brings you out to the wop-wops?"
They look visibly unwell. Your medical knowledge suggests that they are not diseased as such, but certainly seem poorly groomed. Huarache might even say ugly.
Leann brushes her blond braid behind her shoulder as she takes in the three Tabaxi. She has slowed to let others approach, wanting to get a good idea of the lay of the land before moving in herself. She also doesn't expect a warrior, regardless of the fact she had the symbol of the God of Justice on her shield, would be comforting to the three unwell feline-folk. Not wishing to crowd them, with a bunch of strangers moving in to speak with them, Leann held back at the edge of the area near them. Using her ability to sense unholy beings, she was glad that the three women did not appear to be such creatures in disguise. Nevertheless, she stayed back, keeping an eye out on these strangers as others of the group approached.
Shutorn withholds judgement until Dorian finishes casting his spell and observes the three tabaxi, watching their body language and listening to how they respond to any questions the crew asks them to try to discern an explanation for their odd way of speaking and poor posture.
As the crew goes to investigate the tabaxi women, something stirs overhead. An opportunistic Flock of pteraflolk circle above in the moonlight.
Having watched from high atop the cliff, 4 Pterafolk seize the opportunity to ambush the crew of the boat as they come ashore.
#ooc > Chultans would know the following: Pterafolk (pronounced TAIR-eh-folk) are 10-foot-tall, winged, reptilian bipeds native to Chult. Malevolent isolationists, they regard most other creatures as their enemies. In Chultan culture, pterafolk are often referred to as ''terror folk" for their habit of swooping down from the sky to snatch whatever and whomever they can, then transporting treasure and food back to their roosts.
Combat. Round one: pteras go first, then you have 12 hours (6am Tuesday) (because it's a holiday) to post actions. I'll get a map up so can place yourselves, but if you want to already state it or if you have already, indicate whether you're on the beach or the boat (Pterafolk can attack either from the air)
edit: I may give additional time if I don't get responses by 6am
If you were hot by a melee attack, you are frightened until the end of your next turn.
Two Pterafolk (P1 and P2) land to continue melee combat, armed with spears. The other two (P3 and P4) flap back into the air, 20ft above sea level, hugging the cliff to gain lift and keep from skylining themselves in the moonlight.

Huarache would be on the beach; he greeted the Tabaxi. Echo uses her reaction to put disadvantage on the second claw attack (to hit me, either 20 or 19 (EDIT: that will now miss me)). Huarache cries something in Gnomish and pulls out his blunderbuss to return fire.
Attack: 15 Damage: 18
Attack: 15 Damage: 18
Echo will also attack the Pterafolk if it is close enough. If not, she will angrily bark. However, I will roll the dice anyway. Attack: 7 Damage: 4
I'm going to assume Dorian didn't have time to finish casting Detect Magic, but let me know if that's wrong and it's up, for concentration purposes.
Dorian will cast Mirror Image and command his owl to help the others (the same regular divebomb it's been using to keep itself from taking melee attacks).
Huarache attacks twice, hitting the Pterafolk hard with the second attempt. But the slender scaly creature does not go down ... Until Echo pounces, tackling him to the ground. (P1 down).

Still standing on the deck of the boat as the reptiles fly in, Tel strikes with his Quarterstaff as one of them comes close enough to attack. That and his shell protects him from most of its attacks, but the last one hits and leaves behind a surprising fear of this flying killer. His survival instincts triggered, Tel grabs for his holy amulet and prays: "Quiet One, a pact; I shall attack none here, so long as you keep them from attacking me". There is a small flash, and a certain calmness seems to start hanging over Tel. There is still a certain tremor to him, as he stares at the target of his terror.
Reaction: Polearm Master Opportunity attack on a creature entering reach. Bonus Action: Cast Sanctuary on self. Action: Dodge

Vernell moves to greet them.
”Wasn’t expecting anyone in this area. Glad to make your acquaintance. Vernell Grand. Do you live near here?”
Paladin - warforged - orange
"We have been living on the sea..." starts the first woman, who has gray fur as seen by firelight.
"Our while ives." The second, orange furred woman finishes the thought.
"This has always been our home." Adds the one on the left, a calico.

Samogri will walk up to Leann “there are very weird I’m a ready to kill them if it benefits us”
Dorian doesn't have it prepared, he can only cast it as a ritual at the moment, so he'll keep going. "Now, Samogri, I'm sure that won't be necessary."

After his turn at a rest, Tel prepared new spells as was talked of earlier, even though the boat trip turned out to be faster than thought.
Tel is yet to speak to the Tabaxi, he's just leaning on his staff and taking a good look at them to see if they look to be alright.
Would that be Medicine ( 9 ) or Perception ( 6 ), or maybe both?

Huarache would not. He isn't the best in social situations, but he knows not to just call someone ugly.

How are the tabaxi reacting to the pterafolk?
